Scam Alert!!!! I paid for over a year for the heating repair & maintenance plan ($29.90mo), then my boiler didn't work. Pivotal sent out a contractor (Martel HVAC) here in MA that looked at the boiler and told me that it required a new gas valve & assembly. After dealing with the terrible contractor for a few weeks on what was going on with getting the parts and them telling Pivotal that I had an old boiler that was hard to get parts. I was then told that Pivotal doesn't approve "universal parts" and that I should replace my old boiler (18-years old). I believe that most people would accept this and pay $$$$$$ for a new boiler, but I had people tell me that a cast iron boiler can last 30+ years. I looked at my repair manual for the boiler and googled the original parts and found that I could buy them online no problem! Also found that the so called "universal part" was made by Honeywell, which made the original part. (Honeywell just grouped the same model boilers with different BTU's...all the same),,,but didn't matter because the original parts were still available. So the contractor told Pivotal that I needed a new boiler and Pivotal told me that they agreed with the contractor. I told them that's BS and sure they will make $$$$ off me and Pivotal pays just $400. So I called my own HVAC guy that came out for $130 and told me he could get the part and that the boiler should last a long time, BUT HERE IS THE KICKER.......ALL HE HAD TO DO WAS CLEAN THE FLAME SENSOR!!! I HAD HEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT I WAS OUT $130 & ALL THE MONEY I PAID PIVOTAL, WHICH PIVOTAL DIDN'T CARE AND DID NOTHING FOR ME. On top of it all when I canceled they told me I just paid for the money 3 days early and that I would be billed for the next month because its part of the contract. I had been trying to get my boiler working for the last 29-days and this it what I had to deal with from Pivotal. read more

They ever have the right resources of plumbers that can help and leave you to search on your own and promise to reimburse you. Yeah right!!! Having been a Pivotal Home Solutions heating repair plan customer for the past 5 years I will relate my experiences here. The quick facts: ...If you are looking for a company that will cover your heating system failures by appointment, Pivotal can be a good choice. However, if you're thinking that they are going to get your broken heating system repaired on the same cold weather day that you call, then you better look elsewhere... I have had a heating system repair plan with Pivotal since about 2015 when my gas & electric provider (Nstar/Eversource) gave up their service division and referred all customers to Pivotal. I pay about 180.00 per year for a heating plan repair contract for my gas fired hot water boiler. I first had the opportunity to take advantage of my plan benefit in 2019 when I noticed my boiler blowing off water from a high-pressure relief valve. This did not prevent the function of my heating system, however I knew that it should be addressed. I called Pivotal and they assigned an independent heating repair company to come out and look at my issue within a weeks' time. The problem was diagnosed as a failed expansion tank and it was replaced at no charge to me. Thank you Pivotal. More recently...I woke up on a 40-degree Sunday morning to find my house cold (about 58-degrees inside) with no heat. I noticed that the thermostat was calling for heat but the boiler was not firing and the boiler's pilot was out. I tried to relight the pilot several times to no avail. My presumption was a failed thermocouple preventing the pilot from staying lit as this had happened in the past prior to my having a plan with Pivotal. Around 10:30 AM now, I called Pivotal's 888 number and got a message stating that I could wait on hold or get a call back in approximately 25 minutes. I decided for the call back option. I did receive a call back about 20 minutes later, but no one was on the line when I answered. I waited a bit for a recall and did not get one. I then called and selected the call back option again. About 15 minutes after this call I then received a call back and spoke to a female representative who was helpful, although somewhat hard to understand as there was a slight dialect barrier. She took all my information and verified that I had a heating service plan with Pivotal and stated that I would receive a call back within 2-4 hours, and that if no heating service was located that I may be approved to search for a provider on my own for later reimbursement. She also gave me a claim number. After 4 hours passed (now 3PM) and no call back I then called and waited my turn in que to speak with someone. After approximately 10 minutes, the on-hold message stopped and it sounded like someone picked up as I could now hear a small child crying in the background. I was then disconnected and sent to some sort of survey response. After the survey ended the line was disconnected. I then called back again and waited another 10 minutes and a representative answered who sounded like the same person from early this morning although she did not provide any name. I explained that I still had no heat, I had a claim number and that no one called back in the 2-4-hour window as was promised. The representative then apologized and stated that I did not get a call back because they had not yet found anyone to come out to look at my heating system. She stated she was going to escalate my claim. I never received any call back that evening and decided to break out several spare electric heaters to begin heating my house for the night. The next morning (Monday around 8am) I called Pivotal again and was advised that a heating repair company in Bridgewater MA had been located and that they would be calling me to set up a service appointment. At approximately 11AM I then received a telephone call from a heating repair company in Fall River, MA. Being now somewhat confused, I asked if they were the same company in Bridgewater, MA that was supposed to call me about the repair. I was then told that the company in Bridgewater had declined the job so they were assigned and could come out tomorrow (Tuesday) between noon and 4pm to look at my heating system. Although I did not want to go yet another day without heat, I reluctantly agreed to this appointment. I then went onto the Pivotal web site and found a link for a contact to 'Contact the office of the [company] president'. I clicked this link and filled out my contact information and I typed a summary of what had transpired with my no heat issue. I did receive a call that same afternoon from a Tamara stating that she had red my email. Tamara was apologetic and stated that they did not have control over the service providers schedules and that Tuesday afternoon was the soonest that my heating system could be looked at. Bottom line is that I lost my heat on a Sunday morning and it was not until Tuesday afternoon that I finally had heat after Pivotal sent a company make repairs. read more

A world class customer experience - are you kidding me? The worst experience ever!!! I retired from AT&T after 40 years of service in the Customer Service Department. You people do not have a clue what true customer service is. You have it backwards. Go back to school and learn something. Shame on you. Eileen K. No private messge with a so-called specialist. I spoke to more specialists than I can count with no help from anyone. We got home on Friday, April 3rd, after a 3.5 month vacation to find our home with a temperature of 49 degrees. Mind you it was only 5:00 p.m. but not one contractor was available to come out. We are senior citizens with health issues and had to spend the entire night freezing. Couldn't go to a hotel because of the Coronavirus. So after being a paying customer for more than 10 years, we had to find a contractor ourselves the next day. The customer service reps that I've spoken to on the phone to schedule my appointments have been nice but the actual service is appalling. We originally scheduled a furnace and a/c clean & service on June 1 (my landlord had purchased the clean & check through them.) The tech called me when he was 10 minutes out. 15 minutes later I got a call that he had been looking for parking "for over an hour" and couldn't find any so they would need to call me to reschedule. They never called back. On July 14 (2 days ago) our a/c went out. Reached out to my landlord; she is supposed to have insurance for the a/c unit through Nicor so we called them back. We scheduled them to come out today (7/16). Today's Issues: #1 - My husband worked from home so that he would be there to let them in; gave his name and number to the customer service rep. The tech called my landlord. Then me. Never my husband. They marked us as not home. #2 - they said they didn't do a/c units on roofs. Why didn't you tell me this when I scheduled the appointment? Or better yet when my landlord purchased the insurance? I would be livid if it were my money getting thrown out the window like that. That said, our "roof" is the type that you use stairs to walk up to, it has grills and patio furniture on it. It's not a hazard. So, you have got to be kidding me. I'm assuming the rep that said they 'didn't do roofs' was confused. BUT, how many A/C units are on roofs in the city?? Why are you doing business in the city? Oh, you are not. You are just taking peoples' money and not providing services. Fraud. Cool. #3 - "It rained." For literally 15 minutes. No. Come back. It is 83 and sunny right now and has been for all but that 15 minutes of today. #4 - Parking wasn't guaranteed so they wouldn't come. Again, why didn't you tell me this when I scheduled the appointment or tell my landlord this when she purchased the insurance? It's a city apartment. We have a parking spot but it's in a very tight garage. No way that the utility truck would fit in it. There is plenty of street parking, it's metered but I will pay the $4. Parking is way better than at my prior place and the company i used there (All Temp Heating & Air Conditioning -- GREAT!) never had any issues. Why are you claiming to do business in the city? FAIL. Again, the rep I talked to was very nice and she was trying to be helpful. She contracted our case out so hopefully someone actually shows up from the new company. I'd caution - Buyer beware with Nicor. Maybe they are fine if you have a stand alone house with your A/C in the yard but for many people in the city, their requirements seem to be pretty restricting and often not doable. Btw, we've been contracted out to Nevils Heating and Cooling. They have a 4 1/2 star rating on yelp so I'm cautiously hopeful that it will be a better experience, but they cannot come for 2 more days. July in Chicago without A/C. Neat. read more

I am writing this review in regards to my senior mother. My mom was just admitted to a nursing home for long term care and in taking care of her bills, I could not understand why her "gas" bill was so high. She lived in a mobile home and was barely home during the day. After looking into this and talking to multiple different CS representatives, I found out that my Mom had been paying this warranty since 2006. She has now paid $6456.00 for appliances that in total do not even come to this amount. She had no idea she had been paying this warranty and even had appliances break down and went out and bought new ones because she did not know about this service. To say she has been duped is an understatement and I am looking into the possibility of legal action against this company for illegally signing her up for something that she did not authorize. DO NOT let your senior parents (our yourself) get duped, if they have Nicor gas for home gas, DOUBLE CHECK, VERIFY AND DOUBLE CHECK the bills to ensure that this "warranty" was not added without their knowledge. read more

Just horrible!!! My thermostat broke after only 4 years after the installation of a new heating and A/C unit. I called for a technician and instead was given 2 service options/insurance for purchase. I was on hold for 30 minutes. I called back and asked for a manager and was put on hold on another 10 minutes and then offered to a customer service Representative instead of a manager. I was told my parts are under warranty until 2021, but I would have to pay $74, plus parts and labor. Why would I pay for a defective part, that they installed, that should last 30 years, instead of 4? That's terrible!! They succeed in diverting business elsewhere, installing faulty parts and completely dissatisfying customers with their incompetence! read more

This company is negligent and awful. Our heat stopped working and we called them urgently. They told us they did not have anyone available to help so to find out own plumber. We couldn't find anyone urgently and I called them back. I spoke to a manager who offered to reimburse us for space heaters and escalted the issue to urgent. He promised to follow up. 3 hours later, after no follow up I called them back. I spoke to a manager named Dave B. He then recounted on that promise and esentially told us to find a hotel that we would have to pay for He was unapologetically unhelpful and rude. We have a service agreement that they did not uphold and left my family in the cold. Do not get a service contract with them. Do not use them. Avoid at all cost. When we bought our house in 2001, we also bought a first home buyer's warranty. Good thing we did, as the furnace crapped out on us. Not sure how we happened to go with Hawthrone but they may have been one of the companies handling the warranty work. They replaced the furnace and we were signed up for an annual service plan, the cost of which was included in our monthly gas bill. About 5 years later, the furnace wasn't running well, kept shutting off. We called them in , as per our service contract. The furnace was repaired but the repairman told us we would need a new heat exchanger (roughly $1100 at that time) I asked how bad was it, how long would the heat exchanger last in the condition it was in? Technician couldn't say, told us it was cracked, recommended us to replace it soon and slapped a pink hazard tag on it. That was 3 or 4 years ago. I bought carbon monoxide detectors for the house instead, as we couldn't afford the repair. My husband now has a friend with a small HVAC company. He's not part of a huge Nicor buyout, just a small, individual company, fully licensed, bonded and insured. We had an issue with the furnace again, this time had our friend come out. He diagnosed a faulty motor. I asked about the heat exchanger. He did a full inspection of the furnace and the heat exchanger. Guess what? There was absolutely nothing wrong with the heat exchanger. No crack whatsoever. Our friend asked if the technician showed us the crack. I said no, I asked and he said it was hard to see, it was really high up. Our friend showed us the heat exchanger, told us what he looks for. Suffice to say, big conglomo hvac company was attempting to screw us. My advice? Stay away from service contracts and large companies, such as any one of the companies owned by Nicor Home Solutions. read more

My furnace broke down and I had to replace it. I had a Nicor sales person, Chris Ray, come out and give me the bid for an 80% efficient furnace. He was not thorough and did not inspect the chimney to see if it was lined in order to properly hook into the chimney (I did not know this needed to be done at the time). Lining a chimney is standard practice in order to prevent carbon monoxide from seeping back into the residence (especially an older building like mine) when blockage from a chimney occurs. I explained my concern to Chris who said there was no problem. He then referred me to his boss, Scott Hamlin, who said there was no problem. He then referred me to his boss Rich Dykstra who said there was no problem. In addition to this, there were several issues related to the installation. Long story short: I have spent $4,000 (more than double what an 80% typically costs) for a furnace that has not been completely installed in over 3 weeks (from the start of the job) and that I don't feel safe with having in my home. When I requested that they take their furnace back and credit me back, they stated that they were not going to do that. This is my only recourse now...shame them into action. Lastly, this has been such an ordeal that I have basically learned all there is to know about furnaces and great companies in the Chicagoland area. They came out to do a gas line inspection. The tech found 2 large leaks. He turned off the gas and said the crew who could fix it would be out tomorrow afternoon. When I got no call half way into the 4 hour window, I called. They had no record of my appointment or that the tech had found leaks. The soonest they could now come out was tomorrow from 1-5. That means another day with no cooking, hot water or dryer. Not to mention I had to take the afternoon off of work and will now have to wait around another afternoon. The tech also told me the wrong size furnace filter - so I had to make 2 trips to get the correct size. Their compensation for their error? A 3 month credit on our service plan - $14.85 and we could get our own contractor and they would reimburse us the cost of the repair. So generous considering it's a Friday afternoon and besides the fact I have no idea who to call, who could I get to come out today? I take the $14.85 and a cold shower. This was our first experience with Tradewinds and not a good one. read more

Repair/Check services are fine... but phone in? Horrible 1) I have had services for years. I have been happy with my furnace/ac/water heater clean and check, plumbing, appliance, etc. 2) Biggest problem is customer service. I have waited 2 hours on hold, only to be disconnected or having to hang up because its 11 pm and I can't stay awake. This is unacceptable. 3) Scheduling for furnace clean/check is a nightmare. I called in August to schedule for December. I was told no, too early. Then I called in September for something else and was able to schedule for November. Then I had to cancel, and couldn't get an appointment til mid January! Mind you, each time I called the on hold time was easily over an hour. 4) Positive notes: A. Both refrigerator and dishwasher failed within a couple of weeks of each other. Scheduling nightmare, but repairman declared them unrepairable and I was able to receive the $400 allowance for each. B. Plumbing repair was done right (again intolerable wait on the phone. Recoomend with cautions noted above. read more

Their annual renewal notice post cards are UNDATED & NO POSTMARK They lie on the phone and tell your renewal notice was mailed 30 days before you received it and that it can easily take up to 3 weeks for the mail to get to your home (?!) If anyone is looking for underground line coverage, Call WESTBEND INSURANCE -- they have started to provide the same coverage for $15 a year ... not $19.95 a month. I have their "pretty much everything in the house is covered" plan for our furnace, water heater, appliances, etc. Our really old stove stopped heating up (I LOVE this stove and am loathe to replace it) I called up Nicor Home Solutions and told them what was going on and explained I needed it fixed right away as a I had people coming over for dinner in 2 days. They sent a tech out the next day, he found that the heating coil was burnt out and needed to be replaced. It was a total 40 minute visit and my stove works better than ever! So 5 stars on that! That said, I don't think having their gas service is saving me any money at all. I keep my thermostat on 68 degrees in the winter all winter and I don't cook any more in one month than I do in another month, but my bill keeps getting higher and higher. last month it was $145, this month it's $222.82! WTH? When our current contracts ends, I won't be renewing with them. 2 stars on this part. I split the difference and gave them 3 stars. read more

We had a clog in a bathroom sink around the beginning of December 2020. Nicor (which is NOT Nicor, it is Pivotal Home Solutions) sent a plumber who could not unplud the line and told us we needed to open the ceiling in the room below so pipes could be cut out and replaced. Because that is a major project, we asked for a second opinion, which Nicor/Pivotal was initially not willing to do, but eventually agreed. Second plumber also uas unable to clear the plug, but now we needed to open different walls to, yes, cut out pipes and replace them because they were broken!!! ( We were surprised to hear that as there was no leak, IT WAS CLOGGED. But hey both plumbers told us walls needed to be opened so we arranged to have walls and the ceiling opened (also requiring cabinet removal). So the second plumber came back to to the pipe replacement. He was supposed to arrive early afternoon but did not show up until around 5 or 6 pm, so it was obvious that he was not going to have time to do the repair. He took pictures of the crawlspace (never included in any discussions before) and left because they would need to negotiate a price with Nicor/Pivotal. After repeated calls to Nicor/Pivotal over the next 3 days, we kept getting the runaround. Finally one of the "supervisors" told us that we had caused the problem because at some point in the past someone had done work in the crawlspace an that they were not going to do any work. The reps we dealt with were good CRSs but this supervisor was a piece of work. Let's just leave it that she was nasty. But I can be stubborn. I found an email for what might be a parent company (phs.homesolutions@amwarter.com). After many more emails, I was contacted and told CenterGuard would be coming out. They arrived on schedule, the plumber was professional, courteous, and what you would want from a service person. And he fixed the problem. He rooted out the pipe and everything was working in about 15 minutes. Center Guard gets 5 stars. But we now have paid to have cabinets removed and holes put in our walls and Nicor/Pivotal are pretending we do not exist since we have told them thay are responsible for the cost of "damaging" out home and doing the repair. And the clog was removed in late January 2021, almost 2 months after we first contacted Nicor/Pivotal. ALMOST 2 MONTHS AND UNNECESSARY DAMAGE TO OUT HOME TO REMOVE A CLOG!!! Pathetic. read more

We have nicer home solutions for several aspects of our home. They have come to the rescue multiple times with our A/C and furnace, and we even had a replacement appliance due to our electrical coverage. They always come out when requested and really work to have the visit contained to the coverage we have purchased. All of the technicians have been skilled and helpful. read more

I would have given them zero stars if I could, unfortunately had their service for a few years which was a big waste of money. I tried to use their services twice during this time and both times I ended up loosing extra money , last time the water heater broke they came out and said it is not repairable and has to be replaced and if I used their replacement service it would actually cost me around $500 more than if I had used a regular plumbing contractor. I finally opted for a call back which they said the wait time was 70 mins. Okay it's been over 70 mins and still no call back. Tried the chat and they closed the chat right after I typed my message. They came to check my A/C two summers ago. We have a contract with them thru Nicor. A bad decision. The tech wont fix it or get us thru the summer, at least. And the reason? It's too old and can't be fixed. Gave me some sales guy to talk to me about a new AC proposal instead. The sales guys is a car salesman alumni, it seemed. Frustrated, I contacted a 3rd party HVAC company. Turns out he was very customer service oriented and he was able to fix it. I wanted to get reimbursed by Tradewinds for the repair (just for labor and refrigerant) but I am still waiting for it to this day. Make matters worse, they also have a very rude phone receptionist, no customer service manners to speak of. I have since cancelled our Nicor home maintenance services for my AC and furnace. read more

What a joke. A few years ago I noticed that this was a large percent on my bill and realize I had been paying for this service for a long time. When I called to cancel it the said it cover everything including my AC so I left it on my bill. Ironically when i called today to finally use it, SURPRISE, it doesn't cover my AC. Before even trying to help me schedule a call to get the problem diagnosed he was already trying to up-sell me more coverage.. which ironically wouldn't cover the pre-existing condition on my AC. My advice is if you have this service cancel it and shop around I found way better cover on the internet from reputable companies. read more

I called to put this service on my new home and told them they want to cancel my old home and for some reason they did not cancel my old home and kept trying to bill me. So I called and they told me I have to pay the prorated rate through the day I called even though I signed up at my new house a month ago. So frustrating and won't be using them after this year. This company is JOKE. They will take your money for many years - but when you need service - they will do nothing to help you. Our furnace started acting up on a freezing cold night. Called Pivotal - they told us it might be 24-48 hours before anyone contacted us. Finally heard from Petro out of RI. The first technician spent a few hours on the furnace - then abruptly left - saying he had to get a part. A second technician showed up a few hours later. He told us that because our furnace was old - they don't make parts for it anymore. He told us we needed a new furnace ! We then called a local plumber - who contacted the manufacturer - and the person he spoke to at the manufacturer told him the furnace probably just needed a good cleaning. The plumber cleaned it thoroughly - and it is now working just fine. Quite a different outcome than needed a NEW furnace for thousands of dollars. This company is a JOKE. Save your money. read more

My furnace was deemed unreplaceable by Pivotal Home Solutions so, in October I had to have a new furnace put in and pay in full up front before I could make a claim. I am a senior citizen and only purchased this insurance because I was concerned about major costs in repairs. Did not realize I had to front the cost but I did manage. Received paperwork from Pivotal and faxed it back to them on October 22nd. Followed up in 30 days and was advised they are behind. December 3rd received an email saying they had sent me the wrong form, needed to refile everything. Tried to fax everything back to them, no answer on the fax. Tried repeatedly and then called them to see if I could bring the paperwork out to them. I was advised that they do not have an office in Naperville, Il as advertised. This rep was in Canada. I was then given another fax number which I was assured would work. Well, no answer on that one either. I have no choice but to take to the Post Office but now have doubts that I will ever receive reimbursement. Will keep you posted. read more

They take your money...they said they have given them about 2000 dollars in repairs in 5 years, well, the policy states 2000 dollar cap per year not per 5 years....they only offered her 250 dollars for a furnace that she had to replace for 8000 dollars and come to find out, her home insurance told her it was a power surge that caused the issue and it was indeed repairable but too late as they had no heat or hot water over a month, they had to listen to pivotal lies and buy a nrw furnace...this company is a scam..a fraud and i will continue to spread the word.. They have changed the insurance name 3 times..SCAM ALERT...FRAUD. read more

We have the Nicor Home Solutions plan that covers our furnace and on 11/20/2016 we placed a service call to our furnace warranty company, Four Seasons Heating & A/C, to take a look as to why our furnace would not work. After the service technician arrived he concluded the furnace was not properly cleaned as listed on the 1/29/2016 work-order by Nicor. He demonstrated the flame sensor rod (using a digital multitester) had not been cleaned and that the amount of buildup could not be from a cleaning done less than 10 months ago. There was no continuity in the flame sensor rod except for at the very top. In fact he said this part had not been cleaned in several years. After talking to Darren and Tiara(Badge #52977) both concluded the Four Seasons Service Technician could not conclude this part had not been cleaned, yet since we used the furnace for at least another two months after the 1/29/2016 cleaning, the buildup was from the two months of use. This two month use rendered my furnace inoperable. I find that difficult to believe and insulting. I had to pay $174.95 (service call $85.00, clean and Inspection $89.95) to get my furnace operable. This was in addition to the $167.40 I have already paid Nicor for the same service. Paying $342.35 for a residential cleaning is unfair and to expect your customers to pay for something twice is a very quick way to create customer retention problems. An offer of a $45 dollar goodwill credit is not sufficient. I am looking for an equitable financial recourse. read more

I had been a Nicor Home Solutions Customer for over 10 years. After asking customer service to look into an issue (error on their part) for over 5 months and several phone calls and promises that my case would be resolved I was stuck with a huge bill.- credit that didn't come close to my wrongful charges. And besides all that the fact that they didn't care that I had been a loyal paying customer for 10+ years made me realize that I would never want to do business with them again. Please monitor your Bill and when you see an error be prepared to make several phone calls (at least an hour of call time each. Talk to several service reps, never hear back from a supervisor and don't let them tell you they are resolving the matter and not follow up as they will continue to bill you as they figure out the error. read more

Scam Scam Scam ! Never have I ever ! Unbelievably disappointing! Thieves! Unprofessional! I couldn't understand customer service. I was disconnected time after time. Then when I call back I had to tell my story all over again. I felt like I was at the hospital speaking about what brings me in today. They put you on hold several times throughout the process claiming that they are going through the notes. I think they are just sitting there. I am not sure what happened. This was an awesome company. Now all they do is not communicate to you and take your money every month. They sent me a reimbursement form with a promise to pay then never paid me. I purchased the top insurance on my ac and furnace unit knowing that I can't pay out of pocket for anything serious. Ha joke was on me. I burned up all summer and froze in the winter. You are better off fixing your own stuff or paying out of pocket for a technician. read more
