I'd just read about the best gelato places in Toronto and On Third Thought was on the list, so we figured we'd pop by for a bite. I decided to try the Caramelized Fig and Strawberry Daiquiri flavors. They're both good but unspectacular. The fig was lacking that rich creaminess you associate with top-notch gelato, and I also found it a touch too sweet for my liking. The flavor was good, though. The daiquiri flavor fared better, even though it was quite icy. But it did replicate the taste of a strawberry daiquiri drink, so that was pretty cool. I think we probably would've enjoyed our meal if we'd actually paired the gelato with wine. I am curious about that, so I'll possibly return some day to try that. read more

Toronto loves patio season, toronto loves ice cream/gelato and toronto loves wine so this place checks off 3 boxes. it's a more unique concept that normally would be seen for Niagara on the lake but it was cool to see that a bar at queen x bathurst would also offer this. The wine pairings with gelato are flexible and definitely can ask for them to split for 2 people. Not sure how the other boozy flavours are but I personally felt that i'd rather drink an espresso martini. it might just be harder to get the stability right with the alcohol content for it to be more of a gelato texture. really enjoyed the mango and sauvignon blanc pairing though, the tropical flavours stood out. it was also interesting to learn about the wine because you can't find them in lcbo and they're all small batches made locally or from speciality wineries around the globe. read more

I'm more of a sweet wine drinker so I'm picky with my drinks, which kind of gave me low expectations for the wine selection & I thought I probably would just like the gelato. We chose the flight, which came with 3 gelatos of our choice & 3 wine tasters chosen by the server. Let me tell you, the pairings were all amazing!! It exceeded my expectations & I enjoyed each one. On Third Thought is the place if you're looking for gelato (and boozy gelato too!). Located near Bathurst/Queen, this spot produces all their gelato in house that is all vegan and allergen friendly. They also have cocktails and alcohol for sale as well. The shop is small where they do take out only. They do have a patio but no furniture as of yet when I stopped by. The murals on the wall are colourful and make a great instagram photo op. I stopped by on a Wed afternoon. There was no line and the staff greeted me promptly when I entered. She gave me suggestions on her favourite pairings as I mentioned I had to try one of their boozy gelatos. I opted for a single scoop (with 2 flavours!) and got mango as well as mojito (19+). The gelato flavours I got were both delicious! The mojito flavour was definitely a highlight and unique. Definitely do want to try their other boozy gelato offerings. Solid but pricey spot for vegan gelato (does that still make it gelato?) and sorbets. I tried the Pina colada, watermelon, mojito and mango flavours. Pina colada and mojito were pretty on point in regards to taste, but you couldn't really taste the alcohol (is this good or bad?). The watermelon was extremely sweet and in my opinion tasted nothing like real watermelon and moreso like a candy watermelon, leaving a weird aftertaste behind. The mango was pretty accurate as well, and tasted very close to the real thing, though again like the watermelon, it was very sweet. Double scoops are $8 and each alcoholic flavour is +$1. Honestly this place is pricey compared to its competitors and especially so because the portions were pretty conservative. Overall On Third Thought makes solid frozen desserts and is definitely worth trying. read more

We came in by accident and tried fruity strawberry gelato, super rich chocolate one, vanilla & cranberry. All were amazing. I got kahlua latte, we also tried chai latte (which was not overpoweringly sweet as it often is). Our chocolate loving son appreciated the hot chocolate. The owner is very friendly and was very helpful telling us about all the other vegan options in the area. The ambiance is casual, but there is a heated patio for a more romantic ambiance which was open in the end of November. They have a pretty unique selection of flavours and I tried their strawberry daiquiri & espresso martini. The flavours are definitely pretty strong & accurate but I found the strawberry daiquiri to be a tad sweet. This. Was. So. Fun! I was strolling along Queen Street and saw a board advertising "wine and gelato flights" - me being a sucker for flights, I had to stop by. Was greeted by an overly friendly employee who handled a cafe at full capacity so gracefully. It took about 15-25 minutes to order and receive my flight. They had ran out of I believe either a gelato flavor or a type of wine that is part of the recommended flight, but the substitute was just as good (if not better, for all I know). As for the flight: it was really good! The amount of gelato (~4oz each) and wine (~ 3oz each) received was favorable, and the pairings went together so well. Each gelato flavor was distinct, and the wine was just as good. For $25, the price can be seen as a bit high, but since this was my first time even being introduced to such a pairing, it makes me think that it's not easy to be duplicated around the city to make it a competitive price. As long as the price doesn't go up, I plan on coming back. read more

I tried the Chocolate and Italian Cherry Vanilla gelatos. I enjoyed them. Afterwards, I enquired about the ingredients in their gelatos, because I was concerned about artificial colours & flavours, as well as ingredients that one might consider to be inferior. After a week of no response, I followed up. The next day, the owner, Jade, replied that they don't have a log of the ingredients for each flavour that could be sent to me, but that if I selected which flavours I wanted to know about, that she would get that specific information for me. I thought that that was pretty contradictory and that anyone in the food & beverage industry should know exactly what's in their products. I told her two flavours. After another week passed, I hadn't received a response, so I followed up and also asked if they produced the gelato, or if they purchased it ready from a supplier. Another two weeks have passed and my enquiries have been ignored. I feel like this business is trying to hide something and for that reason, I don't recommend supporting it. read more
