Very similar to set ups you would find at an Italian gelato place in Italy. Service is expedient and friendly. When I went the seating area was blocked off and therefore you need to eat outside standing or if you're lucky get the only 2 outside chairs. Not really a problem as the temperature was comfortable and it was a beautiful evening. I had a medium cup with a one scoop of banana and one of amarena, my favorite combo. As good as a gelato can get. I have gotten a tub from here so many times and the taste is consistent. Almost all gelato places have good gelatos, but they don't all get the packaging right! This is where Dolce shines. They have this White container for a tub, it seals the ice cream very nicely and also maintains the temperature until you can get it home. I usually Mango and raspberry together, the end result is every bite has a sweet and savoury flavour. You can get creative and also try Grapefruit and/or lemon with Mango or any other sweet flavour, all very good flavours themselves and amazing when mixed with some other sweet flavour. read more

After a medical appointment on a sunny day last week, I ended up in Greek Town and once again my craving for a nice scoop or two of frozen dessert kicked in and I started walking "desperately" along Bloor towards Chester station on the lookout for a place that might not be too busy... I had about an hour left before heading to working so as I was continuing my brisk stroll to Chester, I suddenly saw the name Dolce and knew that it would have the right frozen treat to satisfy my craving. It wasn't busy at all inside so in I went to take a brief look before I picked my flavors. I got a small and picked my two flavors... White Chocolate Hazelnut Truffle and Rum and Raisin. The two flavors paired-up perfectly and I liked the subtle hint of rum in the rum and raisin and that blended well with the Hazelnut Truffle. So with a nice cup of gelato in hand to cool me off in the heat of the lunch-time sun, I walked on happily to Chester station and continued on to work. read more

As most of my friends know, I am a HUGE Dolce fan. I did leave a great review for their Kensington location, and honestly would have loved to replicate for this one too . . .unfortunately I do not think I can close my eyes this time around. My wife and I visited Dolce during Taste of The Danforth. It was somewhat busy, but not as crazy as you would expect it to be in a night like that (roughly 6 or so people waiting in line in front of us when we arrived). While I generally stick to my favourite flavours, I did want to try something new this time around. We were checking out the ice cream flavours to get some inspiration, when sadly we were "scolded away" by a pretty rude blonde landing standing on the other side of the fridge: "You have to pay first and then choose flavours", she said. We were just watching from a distance, no reason to be rude. In any case, we ended up paying first and then ordering. Though she did continue to give us "death glares" as my wife calls them, throughout the whole time we were there It might be because of this bad experience, but I also found the Gelato to be a little off. I ordered Stracciatella and Pistacchio, and both flavours basically tasted the same: too sweetie and just not creamy enough. I will DEFINITELY be back to Dolce, but I won't be back to this location. So I do love Dolce gelato and I'm not giving 3 stars for lack of quality. The desserts they make are to die for. I'm calling BS on their gift card policy. I received one as a gift from a friend because I live in the West End and have a Dolce near by. She went to her nearest Dolce to purchase the card AND WAS NOT TOLD OF THEIR POLICY, thinking "Perfect my girl can use it at her Dolce IN HER NEIGHBOURHOOD that she always goes to". I tried to use my card only to be informed I can only use it at the location it was purchased in. So when I called to see if there was anyway to resolve the issue, as I never go to the Danforth location, I was told sadly no it's just how it is, and I was welcome to leave a review. So that's what I'm doing, calling BS on their gift card policy. I should be able to use it in any of their three locations, particularly the two that are walking distance from me. Decided to stop by here for dessert after dinner in Greektown. This location is pretty spacious, with ample seating and bright lighting. It boasts an array of gelato flavours ranging fruity flavours to chocolatey/dessert dishes flavours. After a bit of time spent deciding, I opted to get the large size in a cup for around $6. We tried the oreo, toasted marshmallow and dulce de leche flavour. Oreo: Tastes like oreo flavour haha, not much to it. Cant go wrong with that. Toasted marshmallow: I sort of failed to tasted the "toasted" part of the flavour and I probably only noticed 3 physical mini marshmallows in the entire scoop of gelato. Dulce de leche: Very rich of course, smooth and has a nice bitterness to it. Wish I could taste some toffee bits like the description claimed to have. Overall, its a nice, lively place for some late night gelato. Prices are pretty high for non-gelato items in my opinion; but I guess thats the price you pay for a location thats closely approaching downtown Toronto. read more

Wow! Talk about amazing gelato! I took advantage of the warm Toronto temperatures last Friday by heading over to Dolce Gelato - I was in the mood for something sweet and the fact that they're open late was great! I've never had grapefruit gelato before, but Dolce's grapefruit sorbet was fantastic - just the right balance of tangy and fruity. The seating area is nice for groups and is very family-friendly. They have a few seats outside which is nice to enjoy on a sunny day but they are taken quite fast (reasonably so). I've driven by this place countless times on my way to work but finally got the chance to stop by early this afternoon. There was another couple sitting outside (they only had 2 tables with 2 little chairs outside, so not much of a patio incase anyone was curious). The small and medium give you 2 flavors to try from, the large gives you 3. He chose the small with coconut and mango gelato and I had the small Oreo and dolce de leche. The coconut tasted AMAZING. But the mango was the show stopper, it was amazing. To anyone who loves the fruit, this is just as good if not better (yes, I went there!) The Oreo tasted like plain vanilla. I barely tasted any cookie pieces. So avoid it unless you want a plain vanilla taste. The dolce de leche was really good, a little on the sweet side but still enjoyable. I loved every bit! Dolce is hands down my favourite place to go for Gelato. They have the largest selection I've ever seen with a great selection of flavours to satisfy anyone. If it wasn't for the most bizarre experience ever, I would have been writing about the delicious gelato! I came with my two friends for some gelato, and I ended up choosing marshmallow and mango (strange combination but delicious!) in a sugar cone. The staff was helpful, we even had a few laughs together and I went to sit down and eat. My two friends decided they wanted to get a super big gelato (why would the establishment complain about this !?) so they ordered a take out container because it was the biggest option. As we went to sit down and eat (was empty inside) the staff told us we had to leave , as we couldn't eat a take out container at the table. We actually laughed as we thought they were joking. But nope, the sweet young man who served me, who was clearly only following the instructions of his boss, came to our table and said actually you really do have to leave. I said this was strange as we actually spent even more money on the takeout container than if we just bought regular gelato cups and would have been allowed to stay inside. The staff insisted we leave the place, and made us out to be like criminals for daring to eat the product we purchased inside the establishment we purchased it in. They literally escorted us out. I was telling the staff how I was actually ready to come back and recommend this place to others as the gelato was delicious. One of the girls looked outside and said "tell your friends that standing on our property still counts as eating their gelato here, you have to leave " Never in my life have I felt so unwelcome in a restaurant ! This was truly weird. I understand why this arbitrary rule exists however the way the staff approached it was terrible. I literally felt as though I had committed a crime by wanting to enjoy our treat sitting down. The fact that we were escorted off the property simply because we wanted to eat what we bought was super strange. Especially because we actually spent more money than what would have been acceptable to eat inside. It seemed to me the staff were working in a culture of fear and not allowed to agree with me that this rule was strange. It was clearly a decision by a higher authority that they had no choice to enforce. I don't blame the staff however it could have been handled a little bit better. I literally felt my dignity being stripped as I was walked out. I love gelato and I would have been back for sure but this experience ruined the delicious treat for me that night. At least i now have a story that I was escorted out of a gelato place for eating gelato? Please go elsewhere for your gelato and don't support this bizarre place! read more

The staff can sometimes be hit or miss but are usually ok. So many flavours to choose from and its always so creamy, rich and the flavours are strong! This particular place is excellent, they have all my favorite flavours Mango, strawberry, and passion fruit. And the reason why there are so many flavours of gelato is to suit all taste, so will you have to try it for your self to find your favorite. I have been here enough to know that the busiest time of year if the summer time, but they also have some desserts like cakes and coffees for those cold winter days. There are plenty of tables to sit at to enjoy the wide variety of desserts offered (biscotti, cakes, tarts and cupcakes). You can sample the gelato before making your choice, small cup starting at $3.85. My usual gelato favourites are usually anything nut or chocolate base (Bacio is AMAZING). My husband and I were anxious to try the newest dessert neighbour on the Danforth/Greektown. Walking into Dolce, we were pleasently surprised with the renovations of the old Kokkino Restaurant. The modern dark wood and the sleek furniture brings a classy feel to the usually drab dessert joints on the street. Since we just finished exercising and were feeling pretty good about ourselves, we decided to share a small cup of gelato. When we approached the cash, we were told that they ran out of small cups, so we had to buy a medium cup at $4.75. Normally, I'd be happy to buy a larger cup of anything gelato/ice-cream related, but this medium cup was definitely a "small" medium cup. With Baskin Robbins and Cold Stone Creamery minutes away from Dolce, I don't know if I could just justify paying almost five bucks on a "medium" (small) cup of gelato the next time I come to visit. There were about 10-15 different flavours of gelato--ranging from chocolatey, nutty and fruity. The nice girl working let us try a few different flavours--we asked to try, even though we had already set ourselves on the Bacio (chocolate hazelnut) and Pear. The Bacio was amazing! Big pieces of hazelnut in the gelato---definitely a Nutella experience! The Pear was a little on the sweet side--too sugary and not enough natural Pear flavour. In terms of sweet treats, Dolce also sells biscotti, cakes, tarts and cupcakes. They were advertising the Red Velvet cake outside of the store. The display could be brightened a bit to make the cakes look a little more appealing. Next time we're going to try the Red Velvet cupcakes. Mmm... I love ice cream, and I love gelato! Everytime I visit Italy, I don't let any trips go by without loving gelato! Came here and ordered my usual favourites, nut-based flavours: Nocciola (hazelnut), Bacio (chocolate with hazelnut). Lovely to just bask in light sun, enjoying gelato and people-watching. I've only gone to a few handfuls of gelato places in TO, but I'm satisfied enough to not even wonder how the grass might be in other pastures. Service was good. Having tried gelato for the first time on my recent trip to Italy, I was hoping to find some tasty gelato back at home in Toronto. I saw this place on the Danforth and decided to try it out since it seemed pretty busy inside -- must be good right??? We split the 1/2 litre (2 flavours for $11 no tax). It was a pretty good deal. However the lady put our order in a bag and when we asked her if we could stay in to eat it, she said "no sorry, you have to take it to go". I was thinking "WTF?" There were plenty of tables free, but whatever, we didn't argue and went outside to eat it on a bench near the Big Carrot.
