The layout continually had to be adjusted due to poor measurement application. Even after the plan was complete, several cabinets were incorrectly made and significant workarounds implemented. We like the look of our wood plank tile, but it will never been sound. Several loose tiles have been replaced and more is needed. I don't think it will ever be 100%. Getting tiles replaced is like pulling teeth, uncomfortable and painful.

From the beginning Manuel was challenging to get ahold of (no responses on emails mostly). Work started a week later than we had agreed on and Initially the project was supposed to take 3 days - demo, install, finishing- and it was suggested that it could be done in one week. The project started September 25 2024 and was finally finished November 15, almost 2 months. During demo we had to ask them to stop because they did not tape off the space and spread huge amounts of dust throughout our house that we ended up needing to do lead and aesbestos testing to move forward (not to mention, I had to take a day off of work to clean up the mess created). We had to call and text and basically beg them to send people out to finish the work and we could tell we were a very low priority- mostly working Saturdays, canceling multiple times after committing to dates, unwilling to commit to days until a day or two in advance, etc. He pretended he would work around our schedule but if that was the case, this work would have NEVER been completed. I canceled plans 3 times during this process to make myself available to get this work done. After demo, I think they realized this job was more complicated than originally anticipated but instead of telling us that, Manuel just kept us guessing, unsure if the timeline had changed- he did not want to communicate specifics with us which we would have really appreciated and welcomed. We learned quickly that they were not particularly respectful of our space so we began taping up our own plastic space dividers to keep dust and fumes out of the rest of our living space. The workers were very nice and I believe the issue is with management rather than the workers themselves. In the end, the work is nice enough which is why I give 2 stars instead of 1. The finished work was absolutely not worth the headache and displacement we experienced to get it done. It was a truly painful experience. I have other cabinetry projects I would like to do but will absolutely not be hiring MJ Custom cabinetry again to do the work.

What we were looking first was a pullout table for baking and such in our small kitchen. I showed him what I was looking for and he designed the hideaway table based on our requirements. As part of the job he refinished the existing cabinets from a golden oak to a mahogany. He matched the new and existing cabinets to that color. An excellent job and attention to detail. This include me fixing a drawer that was off its track and fixing a lazy susan corner cabinet that needed a minor repair. We still need to replace our countertops and add a countertop to the pullout table but that is a separate project.

After waiting for half an hour, I called the company myself and was then told that they don't service my area for smaller projects. I completely understand if my project isn't a good fit for the company, but this should have been communicated when the appointment was made, or at the very least sometime during the two weeks we were waiting for the consultation. We cleared our schedule specifically for this appointment, so it was very disappointing and unprofessional to be left waiting with no notice. A simple phone call ahead of time would have avoided the inconvenience.
