We like this fish; in Cedar City we've had a couple of times when they've been 'real' small pieces of fish, and its like they count out '6' fries... so for the price, its just not worth it... but weve had times when its normal and very worth it too! (So we go knowing that... and we hope for the best). They used to be here once a month, but they havent been here now, since May. Ive seen posts that they're changing parking lot locations, and will be here 8/23 ... but they sent me a text the other day saying they were back, and would be here 8/6, at the same location ... however, they were nowhere to be found. I went online and it was posted that they had cancelled. So, you're a business... if you send a text telling followers youll be here... you need to send a text letting them know if you cancel! Tonight 4/8/22 was the second time I've eaten from the Fish and Chip truck and honestly neither time was I impressed. The fish was over cook and pretty much tasteless. I look up and support most small food businesses, because they will generally give you off the chart food. We were excited to try On the Hook since there was always a line in front of the truck in Cheyenne Wy. We have been twice now and both times we have been disappointed. They give small portions for a big price. Both the fish and fries are extremely greasy that it ends up making us sick to our stomach. With one order of Fish & Chips you get a good handful of fries, 3 big pieces of fish and their delicious house made tartar sauce and Sriracha Mayo. It is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for here. The "Wild Alaskan Cod" is so tender and perfectly fried in it's delicious crispy flavorful breading. Their fries are great especially when dipped in the Sriracha Mayo. We follow them on Facebook and Instagram and every time they're somewhat near by we are there waiting in line. I really, really want to give these folks a five-star review. I've had fish and chips all over the world and On the Hook serves really good fish and chips. Crispy, tasty coating, perfectly cooked cod. The chips are ok, good, not great. The folks working the truck are efficient, friendly, and professional. But, what gives with no drinks? It's hard to eat a plate of fish and chips with nothing to drink, I don't keep drinks in my car, and the parking lots I find the truck in don't have stores that sell drinks close by. WTF? I've been a loyal customer for a couple years now. Every time they come to town I leave work to get lunch from this truck. It's very seldom that I eat out. I like to treat myself to fish and chips when I can. I've loved every other experience that I've had with this truck. They have great fish and fries. We own a local business so we try to support other businesses that are independently owned. Well today was different. Both of my orders had maybe 6 fries in them. The fish was alright. But it's usually a bit better fried. There was a different guy working today that was extremely rude and hostile! I was staring off into space and as I was looking in the direction to the front of the truck while I was waiting for my order he came over and SLAMMED the front door shut. It startled me. I just thought it must be a heavy door that is hard to shut. And then he kept looking in my direction maybe 6-8 times with a mean glare. I couldn't help but feel like I must have offended him in some way, although we didn't exchange words. And he didn't even tell me what I was being charged when he took my order. The other 2 guys seemed to be really nice and working really hard. It can't be easy working in a hot food truck in 95 degree weather! The guy with the nice dreads really needs to show some kindness to his customers because you've lost me. I'll never go back to this food truck again. I shouldn't have to be treated that way especially when I have been a loyal customer and even shared the FB event and taken my friends down there to get lunch. Ive talked them up to the people that I know. Really sad that one disgruntled employee has to ruin the experience for the customers and his coworkers. The fish was greasy and the fries were salty plus for the price of $12 for 3 pieces of fish they need to give more fries..they must be making lots of money because when I drove up to ask if they were open they replied at 11:00 am I would think if you have customers you should serve them. Portion size is very generous, no greasy flavor, wonderful breading in the fish, yummy slightly breaded French fries with catsup if you want and the two types of sauce provided for the cod were very nice. I prefer traditional tarter and it was very flavorful. The siracha sauce was good but not what I wanted for my condiment, my husband used mine. Can't wait for the next time you are in town! I'm a fish 'n' chips connoisseur, so my expectations may have been a bit high, given the accolades these food trucks have been getting around the web. Honestly, though, I was unimpressed. Instead of a traditional English style Fish and Chips, On The Hook serves up something altogether different. The fish is crusted in something similar to a beer/tempura better and lacks that pleasant crispy crunch of a more traditional English batter. The fish itself, though it may be cod, was relatively tasteless and a bit on the slimy side as opposed to flavorful, moist, and flaky. The chips were unremarkable, crusted seasoned fries available at just about any sports bar in the KC metro area. The fries, like the fish itself, were a bit on the slimy side, with nary a crunch to be found. Accompanying the food were two prepackaged sauce cups, one a traditional tartar sauce and the other a spicy sriracha mayo. The tartar sauce was surprisingly bland and brought nothing to the meal. I didn't bother with the spicy mayo so I have no opinion in regards to it. Price for an individual meal ran $13.14 with tax - no drink included or even available for that matter at the truck. COVID perhaps? All told, I could have paid far less for a Filet-O-Fish extra value meal a Mickey D's and had a tastier lunch -- and a cold beverage to boot! As a side note, I have to say I am getting a bit put off by being hit up for a gratuity just about everywhere I go these days. Frankly, it seems a tad bit presumptuous to be hitting up someone for a tip when you schlep food cafeteria-style from a truck and don't even have bottled beverages or napkins available for your customers. In closing, I'd have to say I would be hard-pressed to give On The Hook a second try. They managed to snag thirty bucks outta my wallet once, but I won't be taking their bait again! read more

Stopped by to pick up a meal one evening after seeing the truck. Never heard of them before, but found their food to be amazingly good and the portions very filling. They serve three beer batter cod fillets with a generous portion of fries and two tarter sauces. The taste and quality were excellent. It's unfortunate that this is my first yelp review. On The Hook has been a favorite of my friends and family for awhile now. I was looking forward to picking up some great food in the Lowe's parking lot in Sandy today and upon getting close was surprised to see only two people waiting for food. Once I saw the 3 employees in the truck I decided to go somewhere else probably like many others did...NO MASKS!?! At a food truck location in Kansas City - First, 13 bucks for fish and chips. They don't sell drinks, provide napkins and there is no malted vinegar. The good- the chips, despite a small portion, were quite good. Crisp and fried to perfection, and the Sriracha mayo was a good match for them. Now the bad - chewy, soggy, greasy, flavorless fish with a flavorless portion of tartar sauce to go with it. Flavor spot on! Plenty of the proper sauces to dip, and the fries were fantastic! I'm not a big fan of the thick bread coating, but I know some people like it that way. But I want to say "Have a little fish with your bread?" The fish you actually get is pretty small even with the three pieces that come with the plate. I don't know if they bread them by hand or how they do it, but it's definitely too little fish and too much batter in my opinion. They should go to Little Taste of Britain in Layton, Utah and see what they do there. I've had fish n' chips in the UK, and in a few places here in the states, and Little Taste of Britain, Layton, UT is pretty spot on. Inside, the fish was light, flaky and a delicious "melt in your mouth". The tartar sauce was just right, did not get in the way of the heavenly fish.
