First time eating at the hook. Was a little disappointed in the proportions for $16. Just for three tiny pieces of fish and a handful of fries. I can't say that I'll be returning. read more

On The Hook - All this for $16...... I expect more. Disappointed. - Food Trucks Near Me

Just tried this today...delicious! I will definitely get more when they come back to town.

The food truck was parked in Carson City, NV in the parking lot of Smith's grocery store. The line was a reasonably length and the amount of time was about 20 minutes to order and 15 minutes to receive my order. I ordered the fish and chips (of course) three pieces with two additional pieces. It came with two tartar sauce and two sweet chili dipping containers. There are other condiments (ie malt vinegar, ketchup, etc...) The fish was a little greasy but it had a nice crunch. The fish pieces were a good size piece of cod. You can tell it wasn't a generic frozen piece because each piece was a different shape. The fries were crispy too. The only thing was the fries tasted exactly like the fish so they were probably fried in the same oil. I did enjoy the fish and chips but it wasn't exceptionally the best I've had (Poppies in London). So if they're in your town, you don't have a decent fish and chips place and you don't mind waiting outside in a line then check them out. Recommended! read more

This food truck travels all over the US and today it was in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma! So I had to try it! I've been on the hunt for good fish and chips and I think this place is top right now in my list which is short because Oklahoma doesn't have great places for this. I love malt vinegar and drizzled it all over my fish and on my chips and it added the best acidity! Although I was hoping the fish would have a nice crisp but it did not. It was soggy. But it still had a great taste! The chips (fries) were really good too! It came out to about $15 Service was fast after ordering. I probably only had to wait about 7-10mins before they called my name! I ate in my car because I had to try it fresh! read more

We are Hooked On The Hook Fish and Chips Food Truck! This food truck comes to Montrose all the time but we always seem to miss it. :( Not this time! Bring on the beer battered line-caught wild Alaskan cod fish & chips! We all ordered the three fish and chips (aka seasoned and crispy french fries). Let me just say, it was so tasty, crispy and FRESH! Seriously, the best we've ever had! Some of us even got FOUR pieces! We thought they added an extra if the pieces weren't all that big...which is super cool!! Hey, don't just take my word for it...go get HOOKED by checking out all the locations they hit up on their website! https://onthehookfishandchips.com/ read more

I went to one of their trucks in the parking lot of Lowe's in Las Cruces, NM when they stopped by yesterday. I just happened to see them from across the parking lot but a lot of people were saying they found out about the visit through social media. It was a 30 minute wait in line just to order and then another 10 minutes to get my food. In the 100 degree heat with no shade, the wait seemed to take forever. I had the three piece cod with a small side of fries, the coleslaw, and a root beer. The total was a little over $23. The fish was very hot so I couldn't eat it right away. It was crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside and the pieces were very large which is what I would expect from the $14 price tag. The fries were ok. For $2 I received a very small scoop which was entirely covered by the fish. At first I thought they didn't give me the fries. I was considering a large order but that was $6. I chose the tartar sauce and the sweet chili for my dipping sauces. They were ok. They were in little cups while some of the other sauces were in packets. The coleslaw was shredded cabbage with a sesame dressing. Not what I was expecting but it was good. A little pricey at $3 since it was a small cup. The root beer was very warm because it was not refrigerated. I was expecting a cold drink, especially on a hot day like this. I had to set it aside and go get a fresh drink from Lowe's instead. Very disappointing. I was tempted to try the chowder but I couldn't justify another $6 to my bill for an 8oz cup. I'd try the food again if another truck is coming to Las Cruces or the surrounding area. read more

This is a food truck that travels the country. I caught up with it in Rochester, MN. They must have more than one truck as this one was #21. The truck arrived and a line started forming. A couple people in line had it before and said it was very good. Others were first timers like me. The service of course was order through window and pickup in another. Bring a credit or debit card .... no cash accepted, except for tips!!! The line moved fast and the ordering was easy. Just fish and chips (thick fries) on the menu. Price was reasonable, $15 for 3 good sized pieces of fish and plenty of fries. The food was hot and fresh. The beer batter had good flavor with some sort of spice. Fries were also beer battered. Fish also had good flavor. Served with a special sauce, Sriracha Mayo. Tarter sauce if you like as well. The special sauce had a mild creamy flavor and the Sriracha was not overpowering. I hate mayo and I liked it!! Overall a good experience and will drive a distance to have it again. Follow them on Facebook to see locations. read more

On The Hook just bought out Captains Cod (eastern WA).. I used to love Captains Cods fish and chip basket.. I was glad to see the same menu was being used.. so I got the fish and chip basket. but yeah.. totally not the same.. you can get a fraction of the fish and now it's some stupid fish stick that looks more like a cheese stick.. sadly I'm not going to go back again. Not worth it.. at all. read more

So ends my love affair with On The On The Hook Fish and Chips Food Truck. As I typically do when they're in town, I went over to Goddard, KS to get my fix of Fish and Chips. The fish crust was greasy and the fish itself had the texture of rubber. It didn't have much taste at all. The french fries were sopping with grease and undercooked. I ended up throwing the meal in the trash when I got home. On top of everything I paid the most I have ever paid for the meal at more than $16. The truck was half the size of the truck that typically comes to town. Sad that these guys have gone the way so many businesses have gone in the last four years, especially the food industry. Sadly... this will be my last trip out to On The Hook. read more

I was so excited when I saw that they were going to be in my neighborhood on a FB event post. I love trying new places and we never get Food Trucks out here in the burbs. Overall, the food was decent. Not amazing but not the worst fish & chips I've had. The cook on the fish was good but the flavor was relatively bland and the portions were disproportionate (we ordered 3 meals and none were alike, one didn't even have 3 pieces of fish!). Also, I didn't realize this until after we took our meals and looked it up, but this is a chain food truck. A first for me. Bummed as we really try to support the small businesses, especially in COVID times. So although this is wasn't awful, I'd still make the extra effort to go to GB Fish & Chips, better food and local. Especially for a guilty pleasure of fried food! read more

On The Hook - Ordered a three-piece dinner. Added one piece. Got five pieces. Great deal - Food Trucks Near Me

I have been watching their FB page for awhile and today I noticed they were only a few miles away from me. I loaded up the girlfriend and two other friends and headed over. The truck was parked in the parking lot of an Oreilly Auto Parts store. It was obvious this was a popular idea as we waited in line for five minutes. Fortunately, the line moved quickly. The man at the window took our order, we paid with a contactless credit card and our order was walked out to us by a man wearing a mask and wearing gloves. The food was absolutely fantastic. I've had fish and chips all over the world and this was as good as any I've had. We sat on the tail gate of my BMW and enjoyed good food and being outdoors. Thank you for a fun and dinner out..... read more

I really wanted to like this food truck. They stopped by Apple Valley and my husband saw an ad for them on FB and saw very good reviews so we had to check it out. We waited outside in the cold for about 1 hour before we could order our food. We almost thought about taking turns to go in the car while someone waited in line because it was so cold! After ordering, it took another 15 minutes for the food to come out. We thought that this had to be good if the wait was insanely long. But nope, we were left with disappointment. Fries were deceiving, looked great but tasted like they didn't season them at all. On top of that, they didn't fry it correctly. It tasted like I was eating mash potatoes in stick form. The fish had a tiny bit of salt flavor however it was not consistent in each piece and the fish was dry in the middle. Also, the person in the truck taking orders wasn't that friendly. On the positive side, pricing was reasonable for $15 you get fries and 3 bigger pieces of fried cod. I would not come back again, especially if I have to wait that long. read more

On The Hook - two trays of fish and chips - Food Trucks Near Me

I decided to try the food truck after getting rave response from my coworker it had been a while since he had been to the food truck I decided after work that I would go by and check them out I was very disappointed in their food. I don't have much to say other than a fact that you're spending a lot of money for an empty container but codfish that I'm used to seeing is really large and the batter is light and flaky The pieces of fish that I had were tiny and meaty and when I tell you the three pieces in a container the 4th piece of fish was $3 in 50 thin I did not even finish eating their food I was not impressed at all I would not recommend their truck. I feel they need to do better stay consistent. If you are doing huge pieces of fish you need to continue. this if you are going to shop around to different areas you need stay consistent with your food if you were popular for your Cod fish in your beer battered chips 5 years ago you need to do the same way and 2020. I give the 1 star I didn't want to give no stars so I hope if you read this Yelp posting that you realize that you never know who is coming to order from you and you need to stay consistent the fish needs to be thick in the city fried perfectly light batter not heavy. Also your prices are extremely high when you standards are being questioned. I look forward to you doing better things again to all my Yelp out there and my elite yelpers out there keep eating our way through the world #FOODIE4LIFE. read more

Stopped by On the Hook food truck after work in Moore, OK. About a 15-20 minute wait. Man, was it worth it! The fish was crispy and delicious. Beer batter was great! When I got home, I felt like a hungry shark at a beach party. I tore through that cod like I'd never eaten before. The fries were amazing. The tartar sauce was rich, creamy and perfect to pair with the fish. If this truck comes to your neck of the woods, run, don't walk, to it. It was very reasonable for a food truck, especially with the high quality. read more

I kept hearing about how amazing the fish and chips were and since the truck was in town I decided I didn't want to miss out! It costs $12 for a serving which comes with 3 pieces of fish and a side of fries. At the moment they're only accept cards which wasn't a problem at all. The food was ready pretty quickly and the first thing I noticed when I got my order was how good it smelled! My mouth started watering immediately and I was ready to chow down. The order also came with tartar sauce, sriracha mayo, and ketchup. I appreciate having a variety of sauces, but tartar sauce will always be my favorite. The fish was cooked well, very crispy and yummy. The fries were good as well. Although a bit pricey, I can see myself splurging a bit the next time I'm in the mood for some fish and chips. read more

Good, bad, and ugly aspects in my opinion. Good: Tasty fish, nice sauces, reasonable portions, fries just ok. Bad: Must ask for malt vinegar, no coleslaw, no drinks, pressure to tip is a bit over the top, only credit cards, pushing the price break point. Ugly: Truck breakdowns, delayed starts, unreliable with excuses the norm. read more

I'm not a fan of food trucks, but had been wanting to try this food truck out. They had the parking lot busy when I arrived and that made me feel good about trying it out. I ordered and it didn't take long to get the order. The fries and the fish were both good. I like my fish fried harder than what it was fried though. The little pieces of fish seemed to be a little soggy, like they came out of the fryer too soon, and for the price($13.14) of the food I thought that I could have got a larger portion of fries, but that just might be me being greedy!! For the price($13.14) I would have enjoyed a drink too, but that didn't happen! The truck is worth a try, but bring your own drink and if you like fries order a separate order if it's possible!!! read more

The Fish and Chips may be the best I have ever eaten. There was a generous amount of fish and chips. The smell was amazing, and I could hardly wait to dig in. They have balsamic vinegar, sweet and sour sauce, tartar sauce, & ketchup. They do not have salt and pepper, bring your own. Depending on the line and there were about 10 to 12 ahead of me the wait for my food was about 20 minutes. I think there were only 3 people working in the truck. They do not take cash so be prepared to pay with credit or with debit card or apple type payment. They sort of expect a gratuity. Service was a little slow, but the food made it worthwhile. I will definitely order from them again when they are back in town. read more

Drove out to Liberty Lake WA today to see what all the hype is about. Have to say, I don't get it. Why would you cut cod into thin strips & then heavily bread it? Came across as almost dry & not very tasty. Chunky pieces of cod are moist & flavorful. I can think of several places around our area that have better tasting fish for much cheaper. The chowder & fries were good though ~ read more

I have been getting Facebook alerts about this food truck being in town for a few months and I kept missing it. I finally saw the announcement and made it to the truck and it was definitely worth it! The fries are seasoned well and good, and the fish are good sized fillets, beer battered and fried perfectly. The sriracha sauce is so good. I got two orders, each is supposed to have 3 pieces, but someone must've thought I looked hungry because one order had 6 pieces. Thank you for the extra! Nothing special at all. If you eat all the fries and fish you might get diarrhea from the amount of grease. The fish is poor quality and the fries have no seasoning at all. I ordered 2 meals, it was a total of $28, and I ate 1 bit of a fry. It tasted like a greasy burnt potato. No salt, just grease. I opened the fish, and it had small blue scalely looking things, also lots of black parts of the fish. It was not scales, but it was a cheap quality fish. I ate one bite and decided that I was not going to make my stomach slowly kill itself just because I spent so much money on this meal. The other people that I ate with all agreed it was extremely bad quality and no one ate even one piece of fish. The reason they keep moving is to keep new custmoers coming in. There won't be many returning customers thats for sure. In fairness, they were hand breading the fish when I was there, which is a shame as all they need to do is get better quality fish, and better oil, and then season and it would be really good. All that being said, they don't and it shows. read more

The menu is simple but the food is so good! Probably the best fish and chips I've ever had. I had never heard of this food truck before but was looking through Facebook events one day and saw that they would be in my city that week. When I got to the food truck there was a decent line going, but they were churning out orders pretty steadily to keep the line moving. The menu consists of fish and chips, just fries, or just fish. They take both cash and cards, which is convenient. I'm looking forward to stopping by again the next time the On the Hook food truck is in my area! read more

Saw a post that they were coming through to rapid city, 12/13/23. Waited for two hours, and my significant other was depressed when they never showed. This is their absolute favorite fish and chips and, as can be seen, we were willing to wait for 2 hours in 30 degree weather to get a chance to enjoy the food they make. personally, people/businesses who do this should tarred, feathered, their assets siezed, and let them feel lucky enough to leave the state with even that. treat your customers better, or stay the hell out of our state. read more
