Will not go back. Asked for steamed and got Oysters cooked in oven shell warm oyster cold. Calamari was well well fried. Waitress new wasn't happy but didn't care. So I'd advise y'all to not go. Don't understand all the good reviews but not on this one. read more

My family and I are new to the area, since we moved here from N.C. we figured we would try a local business for dinner. This turned out to just that, a local bar that try's to serve food. We were not impressed. Maybe we should of had dinner inside instead of the outside bar area. The bartender/server was overwhelmed. He could not take care of food orders and attend the bar. I had the mussels, that only half were open, I ripped open my thumb trying to open more of the mussels. My wife ordered cheese fries and got scallops. They took back the fries, gave them to someone else at the bar then re-ordered my wife's fries. My kids got what the wanted. All of our food came at different times. Again, not a restaurant. We did want to have another round of drinks but that took time too. Looks like a good local bar for regulars but not a place for someone wanting to check the place out. The food is affordable but the alcohol is very pricey! Went here a week or so ago and ordered a few shots... Ran me up for about $30 for 3 shots of crown apple! How good is this place? How about my wife and I have been there 7 times in the last 20 days! Everything to eat is exceptional and terrific! The drinks are great and best of all, the prices are fantastic! If you like raw oysters, this is the place! I've had them every time we have gone. We have had oysters, wings, calamari, pizza bread, southwest egg rolls, shrimp, scallops, cajun fish bites, and stuffed mushrooms and thus far and everything has been great. The service has been good and Chelsea, the bartender, mixes a great drink - especially margaritas. Well drinks are $2.50 - specialty drinks are $1 or $2 more. Their happy hour (4-7) is a great time to go. A couple can drink and eat heartily for around $25-$30. This is a diamond in the rough! read more

Took a coworker/friends to Half Shell on Friday night for cocktails, apps etc. as we've always had a fondness for this particular spot being local for the last 11 years. Total bill came to 78.70. Perfect! Well worth the cost for cocktails for 4. Left the waitress Meghan a 15 dollar tip as well I should have. Total amount for my bill with tip was 93.70. Perfectly ok as well! I gave my waitress 40 in cash and my card for the rest of the bill. All is well and good...until Monday when I check my bank account and find that it has been charged for the original 78.70. In error of course. I went back to the Half Shell to show Mickey my receipt and explain that there was an overcharge. While saying he would have to check his charge receipts he did give me the 25 dollar difference in cash. Thank you. HOWEVER, upon checking my account status today I find that now the entire 93.70 has been charged to my card. SO be careful if giving cash to a waitress as well as a card. So another 15 dollar overcharge. Perhaps a better question is what happened to the 40 in cash that was used initially. Simple math... 78.70 +15 =93.70. 93.70-40 cash means my card should have been charged 53.70. Simple. read more

You'd think since they're known for their oysters, clam, and seafood their other food wouldn't be good but it is delicious!! I had the fried mac n cheese bites and they were absolutely delicious.. the cheese quesadilla was great too and so were the fries! Overall a very good place to go! read more

Everything about our experience there was bad. Due to the server messing up or order, it took 40 minutes to get a ceasar salad, undercooked hushpuppies and a wrap. This is ludicrous, even with the order foul-up. My main complaint about 1/2 Shell is their trivia night policy. We tried to use a house cash coupon that we had previously won and were told that they didn't honor them on "special event" nights. Not cool..Another table was having the same complaint we did. The food is ok, but we had a terrible experience with the service and they seriously need to re-think the trivia coupon policy if they don't want a bunch of angry trivia players. Awful service. Arrived right around 6 pm, didn't appear to be too busy on the outside. We walk in right behind another couple, who gets the last empty table in the house. After they get seated, the boy at the host stand along with a waitress just stare at each other in absolute confusion. had NO CLUE what to do with us as they had no tables open and no where to put us. it was as if they had never had to make anyone wait before. after muttering and shuffling around all confused for a few minutes, they told us we'd have to wait (and to wait, we had to awkwardly stand in the center of the dining room because there was no other area to stand). then after standing for a few minutes, another worker came out of the kitchen to inform us that the kitchen workers "were getting their asses kicked" and we would probably be waiting a long while. unprofessional service and sad that the kitchen couldn't handle a dinner "rush" with just barely every table in house filled up. not pleased. we left shortly after. read more

Planned on hitting this place for my bros birthday before we even left home for the inlet wow was that a bad idea the service was terrible the menus are not clear and the orders were a mess which they never did get right my beer ran out and i had find a glass of water to go with my food they charged extra for tarter sauce and cocktail sauce which we were asked if we wanted but not informed it would be .50cent each to go with our seafood (who does that?) the bill became a hassel and the staff could haved cared less the overall experience was very unpleasent and upseting now for the good part THEY ADDED a 21$ tip to the allready overcharged bill which we just gave up on trying to get right. read more

Very - Very Bad Experience. We went in for quick evening meal - waited for over an hour - no food the waitress was new -- the cook lost the order. The food finally arrived - it was really bad. The couple at the next table ordered pizza and it was delivered black. They returned it --- they were very upset. my wife spotted this place on our first visit to murals inlet. we stopped for lunch and had an excellent meal, the shrimp and lobster tacos. atmosphere nice and relaxed and the servers carlotta and mika went out of their way to be welcoming and helpful. so nice to go to a beach place that was not the same old, same old tourist food. recommend highly. read more

let me start with i AM A LOCAL.... service was great!!! Food was good after i sent it back the first time. But good overall. Would go back for food but not for the owner appreciation. The menu on the outside does not match the menu on the inside. Very limited...I had gift certificates which did not entitle me to any menu discounts... not a problem!!!! however,,, they proceded to charge me more for everything on my bill,, then tacted on a gratuity for only 2 people of 16.00.. When I questioned the waitress about the price changes with the certificates the owner immediately jumped off his bar stool and started yelling at me.. Further more telling me if i did not like his prices or how he ran his business i did not need to return. Long story short.. a bill that should have been 75.00 i ended up paying 107.00. to be treated so poorly by the owner is a bad rep for the business. I feel bad for his employees and will do my best to make sure none of my friends or family visit this establishment!!! I am a business owner in myrtle beach myself and am well known and never in my right mind would i treat one of my customers this way!!! This experience completely ruined my boyfriends evening celebration for his birthday night... not to mention mine... I will let the patrons that gave me the certificates know what a bad experience it was!! They recommended this place highly but i strongly disagree...
