"Sea Captain's House" is a breakfast, lunch, and dinner restaurant right on the beach in Myrtle Beach. It has been there for a long long time. We have been going to this establishment for over 35 years. It never disappoints. It's an easy walk from a multitude of resorts and a very easy drive from all of them. It always has plenty of easy parking. Our favorite thing to do is go for an early breakfast. They open at 7:30 am. The dunes and gardens between the full glass wall in the back and the beach is has a fantastic view. It is so peaceful and calming. I love to sit with a cup of morning coffee and just look out at the ocean. Sunrise over the Atlantic is marvelous. If you ever vacation in Myrtle Beach make sure "Sea Captain's House" is one of your stops.

Location, location, location! And great food too! This place has some bad reviews but I went with my gut and tried it anyways. The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because the service has room for improvement and my chowder was room temp The food overall is excellent and the view can't be beat. There was live music which is always a plus in my book. I say check this Sea Captain out for yourself. There wasn't a long wait which is rare on the beach and we didn't have a reservation.

This review is based on my wife's recent visit here for dinner. Bonus was the young man about 20 performing live music which she really enjoyed and said made her dining experience even better. The complimentary hush puppies she said we great and usually she is not a big fan of them. Other highlights were the salad and coconut cake. She ordered the pasta dish and said it was good but regretted she just didn't get the fried flounder and shrimp combination. Her waitress was friendly and attentive, and the outside dining area was nice with the live music and ocean breeze. Overall, she had a great experience.

This is our 43rd Anniversary trip. We were married in Myrtle Beach. This was supposed to be the pièce de résistance evening. We chose poorly. Reservations were made in advance. We made sure they knew why. We asked for a table with an ocean view. The hostess was indifferent and somewhat rude. The atmosphere was loud and chaotic. Our waiter was great but very busy with all the tables assigned to him. Not fully engaged. I observed the way it was functioning... there was a manager overseeing with an iPad... you had waiters, servers, busboys, all running around to meet some sort of timetable I guess. More of a push them through as fast as you can than an experience worth savoring. Now the food... incredible. Truly top-notch. Just no personal touch. Just get them in and out. And this was a Wednesday night! Never again.

If you want a nice place to eat with a pretty view then this is your restaurant! Parking is across the street. I went here during off season so I can't attest to how it is when all the visitors arrive. Our wait was just a few minutes. They sat us in a beautiful enclosed porch area. It was a beautiful ocean view! I got the breakfast buffet. It wasn't a huge one but it came with eggs your way. I got the omelet made to order, it was delicious! The fruit and other items were fancy and fresh. The price was right, under $20 visited December/2025

We were on a beach adventure- just visiting beaches from Myrtle upward. With a quick online reservation, we were in and seated in no time at all, when we anticipated a wait of some sort due to how busy things had been in the area that evening. The waiter was amazing- very accommodating and friendly. There was a live musician in the outdoor area that was great and audience oriented. We had the Summer Breeze drink, which was delicious! That was all lovely, but the food was absolutely phenomenal! We didn't realize hush puppies were a provided table item, so that was a pleasant surprise. They were fresh and their butter accompaniment made them even better! We split the mussels appetizer and the shrimp and crab papardelle entree. Everything was absolutely exceptional and hands-down one of the best dining experiences I've ever experienced. Would love to come back again and again!

You come here for the amazing view and to sip some wine in the backyard after finishing your food. It's surrounded by beautiful flowers. The servers are very friendly, always happy and smiling. I love the shrimps and grits. When I get visitors out of town, I have to take them there.

This is a place where you go to for the view and not the food. We came here with a reservation to celebrate my birthday but honestly was still a bit stuffed from our late lunch. Complimentary hush puppies are decent. Seafood platter was a bit disappointing. There wasn't a lot of seafood on the plate. I think they have this labeled as an entree. It's lacking flavor too. The hummingbird cake is interesting. Never had anything like it! It has banana, pineapple, pecans and cream cheese frosting. The first few bites are good but it is a massive slice and my husband and I couldn't finish. If you come here expecting spectacular food, you will be disappointed. There is a parking lot only for guests of Sea Captain's House (so only park here if you are dining in or else you may get towed). There's a beach right behind.

Had breakfast in this cute old bed n breakfast. The menu was limited but the prices are perfect for your vacation budget. I really enjoyed the many options in the buffet. The service was fantastic and the food was fresh and hot.

My husband's boss brought us here for dinner one weeknight evening. His wife joined us and (of course) the company was paying. I believe he had made a reservation as we were seated immediately upon our arrival. We had a slight ocean view. Our waiter brought us our menus and water. Everyone but me ordered Surf & Turf ($48 each)...I didn't particularly want shrimp so I just ordered the filet ($47). When the food came out, we ALL had surf & turf. I'm not sure if it was an honest mistake or if the waiter thought adding 6 shrimp for a $1 was a good deal (which it is)...but what if I had been allergic to shellfish? I didn't say anything though. The steak was just ok. It came with one side which was just OK as well. I think that I would have been even more disappointed if I had been paying the bill rather than my husband's employer. I had looked at the drink menu online before going and was very interested in trying the Blue Mule but it was not on the menu when we got ready to order. I asked the waiter and he had no idea what I was talking about. So I got a classic mule and it was really good. We got a second round of drinks and the waiter offered to make my mule spicy...which was just adding fresh jalapenos, but that was quite tasty! We finished our meal but were not quite ready to end the evening so we went over the bar that's also part of the restaurant. There I had an espresso martini which was not as good as the mule but better than OK. I wonder if we should have ordered seafood at the Sea Captains House? The bathrooms were lovely and quite clean so they had that going for them as well. Overall I was underwhelmed. The drinks and company were excellent though!

Nov. 2025 Sea Captain -- My wife and I were in town and decided to stop in for one of our usual visits. We sat at the bar (as we often do), had a drink, ordered some She-Crab soup and hush puppies, and shared a fish meal with rice. The bartender was very nice and took good care of us. The soup was very good, as always -- though, for the price, I felt it could've had a little more crab meat. The hush puppies were good too. For the main course, we got a pecan-crusted fish, but honestly it was a little heavy-handed: the crust was all over -- deep-fried -- instead of being simply broiled with the pecan topping just on top. The sauce helped a lot, though, and the fish was tasty; the rice was just rice. Next time we go, we'll probably try a different main course along with the soup.

This place I will say is definitely a nice place for date. We had the option to eat outside with the beautiful view but decided to dine inside because of the wait. We were pleasantly surprised that they offered us hush puppies as a light appetizer which is such a southern thing to do. The grouper could have used a tad bit more seasoning but still was good and properly cooked. The fries with my marinated chicken was definitely the star of the show. Keep in my they have like 3 different menus depending on the time you show up. Our server was very attentive and made sure we always had refills when we were running low. I definitely would give this place a go and you should too if you're in town soaking up some sun!

Came here with my friend (we were from out of town) on our first night in for a nice dinner. We were seated by a window which was lovely to have a nice view. Our server was a sweet heart but I unfortunately forgot his name - order gentleman.. so kind. Honestly everyone in the restaurant was so sweet - we were about the last table there & my friend unfortunately fainted and everyone made sure she was okay and brought her drinks/cold towels. I appreciate them all! That happened at the end of our meal so we fortunately were able to enjoy ourselves beforehand. The food was DELICIOUS! We were craving seafood and that's exactly what we got. No disappointments/complaints whatsoever. Love that they give yummy little hush puppies for starters as well!

Do they offer an early bird special?

    I don't believe so

Do you have gluten free pancakes? That was an option once, along with sugar free syrup

Hi Michele, Unfortunately, we no longer offer gluten-free pancakes.

What is the cost of the buffet?

I believe there is no buffet here, except for breakfast, but the food is really good. Don't waste your money on the buffets serving water logged seafood. The clam chowder is a must have!

Are there gluten free dinner options? GF Desserts?

Hi Caroline K., we do have a gluten free dinner menu. However, we do not have gluten free desserts.

Does anybody know if this restaurant has on-site parking?

We were there this summer. There is a parking lot across the street for the restaurant.

Is this place any good and what are the price ranges?

I was there march 17th the prices are hight but quality was not. Ok for apps and drinks.

They do have beer to go with the crabs too! Didn't wait long. They were good. However, I don't think they were #1 level. At the most maybe mediums. We had several that were paper thin and no meat. They were full. Very watery and not seasoned nearly enough. We weren't expecting Maryland style crabs as we are in South Carolina, but weee hopeful they would be steamed and seasoned a little more. They do need those little food fans on the tables as the flies were annoying (we sat inside). Had to put napkins on top of our cups. The service here is lovely! Just super friendly and welcoming. I was a bit skeptical because we passed it a few times on our way to different places in town, and from the outside you couldn't tell that it served upscale cuisine. But it had great reviews so we took a chance. Ambience: The inside was dimly lit with an old school feel. Reminds you of an old school New York establishment from the 80's. I liked it. It had a welcoming feel and I noticed there were at least two regulars the staff greeted. Food: We ordered an appetizer of calamari and the short ribs. Additionally, I was going to get the salmon but they had a special of red snapper with lump crabmeat, green beans and rice. The food was delicious. The calamari was one of the best I have ever tasted. The addition of the fried peppers complimented the dish well. They were nicely fried and seasoned. Very light crust which I love. Sadly I didn't get a chance to taste the short ribs because I was just too enthralled in my dish. The snapper was perfection! Everything on the plate paired well together. Also, if you're not going for an alcoholic beverage, their freshly squeezed lemonade is so refreshing. Service: I'm truly bad about remembering names and as is my usual, I don't recall the name of the waitress, but she was truly attentive and nice. She was also knowledgeable about the food and patient. Truthfully, all the waitstaff seemed genuinely kind towards the patrons, which was nice. If I am ever in the Myrtle Beach area again I will definitely be going back. Loved it!
