Food is delicious. Our table had the catch of the day and the grouper which came with seasoned rice and well seasoned broccolini. The fish was simply but perfectly prepared. The she crab soup was also delicious. We were stuck at an awkward table in a small back bar area that was not enjoyable at all. The mojitos which are highlighted on the menu were not good. If we were to go back, which we would not I'd make sure to call and reserve a table that had a view. There are quite a lot of tables that do not. Overall the fish is delicious but it's way over priced and the 'ambience' is hit or miss. read more

The ambiance and staff were wonderful, and we greatly enjoyed the Bang Bang Shrimp and hush puppies. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal was disappointing. The calamari was dry, tough, and completely lacking in seasoning. There were four of us, and we all ordered the stuffed flounder. While the crab stuffing was delicious, each piece of flounder was dry and burnt on the bottom. The baked potatoes were also burnt on the bottom while somehow still having undercooked areas. We were looking forward to trying a new restaurant with our daughter and her fiancé, but we left underwhelmed and with a much lighter wallet. "Sea Captain's House" is a breakfast, lunch, and dinner restaurant right on the beach in Myrtle Beach. It has been there for a long long time. We have been going to this establishment for over 35 years. It never disappoints. It's an easy walk from a multitude of resorts and a very easy drive from all of them. It always has plenty of easy parking. Our favorite thing to do is go for an early breakfast. They open at 7:30 am. The dunes and gardens between the full glass wall in the back and the beach is has a fantastic view. It is so peaceful and calming. I love to sit with a cup of morning coffee and just look out at the ocean. Sunrise over the Atlantic is marvelous. If you ever vacation in Myrtle Beach make sure "Sea Captain's House" is one of your stops. read more

This sea captain should go back to sea. Took over 10 minutes just to get a sweet tea, could barely find my crab in my crabcake. But the succotash underneath it had wonderful flavor. I could do without watching the waiters beat behind the outside bar, other servers scrolling on their phone. When we were younger and working restaurants, way to circle down these own people. I'm guessing they can barely make their mortgage here. Someone should get ready to buy them now pretty soon. read more

This review is based on my wife's recent visit here for dinner. Bonus was the young man about 20 performing live music which she really enjoyed and said made her dining experience even better. The complimentary hush puppies she said we great and usually she is not a big fan of them. Other highlights were the salad and coconut cake. She ordered the pasta dish and said it was good but regretted she just didn't get the fried flounder and shrimp combination. I went here during off season so I can't attest to how it is when all the visitors arrive. Our wait was just a few minutes. They sat us in a beautiful enclosed porch area. This is a place where you go to for the view and not the food. We came here with a reservation to celebrate my birthday but honestly was still a bit stuffed from our late lunch. Complimentary hush puppies are decent. Seafood platter was a bit disappointing. There wasn't a lot of seafood on the plate. I think they have this labeled as an entree. It's lacking flavor too. The hummingbird cake is interesting. Never had anything like it! It has banana, pineapple, pecans and cream cheese frosting. The first few bites are good but it is a massive slice and my husband and I couldn't finish. If you come here expecting spectacular food, you will be disappointed. Oh boy. This place was huge disappointment. We had a birthday dinner here on Friday. Not sure what is to blame here. So unfortunately this night the gas went out in the kitchen. Our waitress came to inform us that the gas went out in the kitchen which eliminated half the options on the menu. Now, my first mind told me that we should leave because both of the things I wanted weren't possible. But maybe 15 minutes later our waitress told us that the gas was back on and the entire menu was now available. But....gosh the food was not good. We got the calamari, stuffed flounder, and shrimp platter. The calamari was terrible. Most of the breading had fell off in the plate, and the lemon butter sauce was tasteless. The stuffed flounder was bland and dry. Just really subpar food. I wish that the service was better but our waitress was forgetful and inattentive. It seemed like we were there for hours. The service was terribly slow. I wish I could blame our waitress's absent mindedness on the gas outrage but she promised us cocktail menus before the gas issue which she never bought. We found ourselves reminding her several times for items. The manager Kenneth did come to apologize for the fault of the evening in which we appreciated. The hostesses were very pleasant, though. My husband's boss brought us here for dinner one weeknight evening. His wife joined us and (of course) the company was paying. I believe he had made a reservation as we were seated immediately upon our arrival. We had a slight ocean view. Our waiter brought us our menus and water. Everyone but me ordered Surf & Turf ($48 each)...I didn't particularly want shrimp so I just ordered the filet ($47). When the food came out, we ALL had surf & turf. I'm not sure if it was an honest mistake or if the waiter thought adding 6 shrimp for a $1 was a good deal (which it is)...but what if I had been allergic to shellfish? I didn't say anything though. The steak was just ok. It came with one side which was just OK as well. I think that I would have been even more disappointed if I had been paying the bill rather than my husband's employer. I had looked at the drink menu online before going and was very interested in trying the Blue Mule but it was not on the menu when we got ready to order. I asked the waiter and he had no idea what I was talking about. So I got a classic mule and it was really good. We got a second round of drinks and the waiter offered to make my mule spicy...which was just adding fresh jalapenos, but that was quite tasty! We finished our meal but were not quite ready to end the evening so we went over the bar that's also part of the restaurant. There I had an espresso martini which was not as good as the mule but better than OK. I wonder if we should have ordered seafood at the Sea Captains House? Nov. 2025 Sea Captain -- My wife and I were in town and decided to stop in for one of our usual visits. We sat at the bar (as we often do), had a drink, ordered some She-Crab soup and hush puppies, and shared a fish meal with rice. The bartender was very nice and took good care of us. The soup was very good, as always -- though, for the price, I felt it could've had a little more crab meat. The hush puppies were good too. For the main course, we got a pecan-crusted fish, but honestly it was a little heavy-handed: the crust was all over -- deep-fried -- instead of being simply broiled with the pecan topping just on top. The sauce helped a lot, though, and the fish was tasty; the rice was just rice. Next time we go, we'll probably try a different main course along with the soup. read more

We were on a beach adventure- just visiting beaches from Myrtle upward. With a quick online reservation, we were in and seated in no time at all, when we anticipated a wait of some sort due to how busy things had been in the area that evening. The waiter was amazing- very accommodating and friendly. There was a live musician in the outdoor area that was great and audience oriented. We had the Summer Breeze drink, which was delicious! That was all lovely, but the food was absolutely phenomenal! We didn't realize hush puppies were a provided table item, so that was a pleasant surprise. They asked if we wanted to sit outside - the tables looked like plastic, plus it was hot and windy - so, no thanks. We were seated in the bar which worked out well because it was much quieter than the din in the other rooms. Our server was great, drinks were good, but I think we were all a little disappointed with our food. Pasta with seafood desperately needed seasoning. I had fried flounder, mostly because it was advertised with a side of collard greens. I was in the mood for some good southern cooking; unfortunately, the collards were strangely sweet & had none of the savory taste I love. It came with two large pieces of fried flounder. We made sure they knew why. We asked for a table with an ocean view. The hostess was indifferent and somewhat rude. The atmosphere was loud and chaotic. Our waiter was great but very busy with all the tables assigned to him. Not fully engaged. I observed the way it was functioning... there was a manager overseeing with an iPad... you had waiters, servers, busboys, all running around to meet some sort of timetable I guess. More of a push them through as fast as you can than an experience worth savoring. Now the food... incredible. Truly top-notch. Just no personal touch. Just get them in and out. Came here with my friend (we were from out of town) on our first night in for a nice dinner. We were seated by a window which was lovely to have a nice view. Our server was a sweet heart but I unfortunately forgot his name - order gentleman.. so kind. Honestly everyone in the restaurant was so sweet - we were about the last table there & my friend unfortunately fainted and everyone made sure she was okay and brought her drinks/cold towels. We called to make a reservation and they do not take them for parties over 6, but told us to arrive before 6 and we would be able to get a table. We were seated immediately outside when we arrived. This place I will say is definitely a nice place for date. We had the option to eat outside with the beautiful view but decided to dine inside because of the wait. We had another outstanding meal this year when visiting Myrtle Beach with our brother and his wife. We were seated on the enclosed patio overlooking the water, and it was beautiful! My husband and I both had a cup of their she-crab soup. It was thick, creamy, and delicious, with chunks of crab and a hint of nutmeg. For our entrees, he had the Cioppino and I had the Avocado Seafarer, both repeats from our last visit. I liked the simplicity of the Avocado Seafarer -- it was healthy and yet very tasty. The Cioppino had a rich broth and was full of seafood. Both were winners! I asked our server if the bar could make an elderflower gimlet, and it was outstanding. My husband's Minty Mule was good as well. Our server went out of the way to make us feel welcomed and to accommodate our requests (like my brother-in-law's request for vinegar for his fries, and my elderflower gimlet). She was delightful, and made our experience special. Parking was a breeze, with two (free) lots just across the street from the restaurant. We came to Sea Captain's House excited for a nice oceanfront dinner... and left with a new appreciation for moisture in food. First, the "Gluten Free & Vegetarian" menu boldly promises that vegetarian items will be marked with a (V). Fantastic! Love that! One small detail: none of the items on the menu had a V. Not one. It felt like a scavenger hunt where the treasure never existed. My husband and I had a good laugh about that. As a vegetarian, my grand feast consisted of a Caesar salad, baked potato, and the vegetable of the day (which we were told was broccolini). What arrived was asparagus that appeared to have just completed a marathon through the Sahara. Dry, tired, and clearly ready for retirement. The server kindly removed it from the bill, which I appreciated. The baked potato was actually good... but only while the cheese and sour cream lasted. Once those heroes disappeared, the potato was left to face the world alone. My husband ordered the blackened seafood platter at the server's recommendation. Unfortunately the seafood had the texture of something that had been negotiating with the grill for far too long. Imagine seafood jerky, but sadder. The bright spot of the evening was our server, who was friendly, attentive, kept our water glasses full, and handled the asparagus situation with grace. So if you're looking for great service and a menu that unintentionally doubles as a comedy prop, you may enjoy the experience. Last night will be our last visit there. We've been here twice in the past. The first time was great a few years back. We visited again and it wasn't even close. We tried visiting again last night. We waited 40 minutes which was ok. There were two appetizers that weren't available. One was the she crab soup. Which was not available the last time we came. I ordered my steak medium rare. The waitress repeated back medium well. I repeated to her medium rare. Said replied,"medium rare." When I got the steak it was medium well. The broccoli I received wasn't warm.
