My cousin and I came to the San Pedro Square Market to grab a quick small bite, and then to grab something to take back to the hotel. We weren't sure what we wanted, which is why we came to the Market to decide. I decided to grab my to-go lunch here; I was craving some kind of meat and rice, so I went for the Beef Rib Eye Rice, and I also got the Cucumber Lime Lemonade. The Cucumber Lime Lemonade was too sweet for me, and I had to dilute it with water. The rib eye stirfry was tasty, but the meat was way too tough. I really like rib eye, and I've always had it tender. So, I don't know if it has been overcooked, or what, but it was so tough and hard to chew that I can barely chew most of the pieces, and had to spit them out.
one of my go to lunch spots! I don't see the won ton soup on the new menu which is a bummer. That was my favorite! My other go to dishes is the banh mi and beef rib eye.
Was seeing a matinee show at the Center of Performing Arts on a Saturday. So glad the San Pedro Square was open. My daughter and I decided to enjoy Vietnamese fare. It's a walk-up with bar seating. Giant menu on the wall or a paper menu at the counter. Friendly service. Food came out in 10 min or less. We shared a grilled pork banh mi. Delicious. Although I said "no jalapeños," it still came with jalapeños. Good thing they were big slices and I was able to take them off easily. We also shared tofu fresh rolls (not on the menu) which were cut into 8 easy-to-eat pieces. The peanut sauce was really good. And we thoroughly enjoyed the fried wonton strips on the side. They only sell bottled water. Would definitely come back!
Yum!! The bbq pork bahn mi is something I will definitely be coming back for. It was a bit on the spicier side with the jalapeño, so if you can't do spice order it without. Great flavor, huge sandwich, lots of meat and veggies...this was the perfect comfort meal. Their egg rolls were also pretty good, but the bahn mi was outstanding.
The last Banh Mi's I enjoyed were back when I lived in Sacramento. So finding this gem in San Pedro Square has been an amazing find for me. I had the BBQ Pork Banh Mi and Spring Rolls. Both were so neatly presented (very important to me), the flavors were on-point and delicious. The service was about 10 minutes and I grabbed a drink and a table in the meantime. San Pedro Square is always a hit with our friends group- there's something for everyone. But I think I have found my routine spot in the meantime with On a Roll!
On a roll, for when you want fast food on the go. Came to San Pedro Square market and decided to try their coconut shrimp, however, they were all sold out. So then our second choice was the potstickers. They were just OK and they came with the sweet spicy sauce too.
I wanted to go somewhere to have an early dinner with my aunt and I wasn't too sure where to go. Since there's so many different places to eat at in San Pedro marketplace, I figured we could go there and pick some thing. We ended up going to this cute Vietnamese spot right at the Side entrance. It was perfect because my aunt ordered the eggrolls, and I got some spring rolls and with my stupid food allergies, there's no MSG in their spring rolls! Yes, I'm allergic to monosodium glutamate and I'm Hapa! Ughhhh fun stuff! Anyways, the gentleman at the front counter was very busy, but took our order, and we also got a strawberry tea, and I got a lychee tea. I loved all the different Boba and lychee jelly inside my tea, and the spring rolls tasted very fresh! The only funny thing was is, the gentleman didn't give us any utensils. I had to go back after we sat down and pick up utensils . lol Everything else was fine within the service and we were able to sit down at this cute Italian spot and watch the two people there clean out their giant pasta machine. Apparently it was making the pasta stick instead of separate. I've never seen a giant pasta machine like that, so it was very interesting for my aunt and me to watch them assemble and disassemble the machine. Since I have a gluten allergy, I can't really eat there but my aunt said she definitely wants to try it! Lol we will definitely be back to this Vietnamese spot, On A Roll for a light dinner or snack/appetizer.
I ordered the salmon salad. The chef was genuine, you could just feel it. Dedication to his business. For $18, the portion is huge. Better yet, it's fresh. I was initially surprised he asked me to come back in 10 minutes. There's no way you can cook salmon that quickly unless its precooked. I returned to find him at the stove, so I waved at him and told him I'd return. When I did, I found a plastic bag with two containers, one for the hot salmon, another full of a fresh variety of greens, long shredded carrots, tomatoes, and extra sauce. The fish is a thick fillet where one end had to be tucked into the container. The sauce is a delicious sweet and sour onion combination. Combined with the salad, however, HEAVENLY. I broke a small portion of the fish into the salad and it looked like I barely touched the fish. Highly recommended if you plan on visiting San Pedro Square.
This was my first time in San Pedro Market and the first store I saw when I walked in was On A Roll. But, I did walk through all the eateries to see the endless option. I still came back to On A Roll since I was craving a banh mi. I really appreciated the Asian fusion cuisine and some of my favorite Vietnamese dishes. My friend and I split a grilled pork banh mi and spring rolls. The banh mi was filled with lots of delicious pork and pickled veggies. It definitely hit the spot and fulfilled by banh mi craving. The spring rolls came with fried wonton chips and yummy peanut sauce. The peanut sauce was my favorite and a really good addition to the spring rolls. The service was pretty quick and around a lot of the other eateries. Will definitely be back whenever I'm craving some good Vietnamese food.

WOW! We were looking for something fun for lunch and stumbled into this food court. San Pedro Square Market. There was SO much from which to choose! I went with the pad Thai but substituted chicken with pork. No extra charge. And absolutely delicious! The pictures at the ordering counter don't do it justice. Highly recommend! read more

You will see this place right by one of the entrances to San Pedro Market. It has a mix of different Asian foods like Vietnamese and Thai. I got the spring rolls and coconut curry chicken. Portions are good for the price. I wish the curry had more sauce but happy with the amount of meat and veggies in it. Fyi spring rolls contain cilantro so beware! read more
I was recently at the market for dinner and decided to try On A Roll. I had the coconut curry chicken. I had this the last time I ate here and it was just as good this time. The curry has a great curry flavor, a little spice but not too much. Lots of good veggies (carrots, onions, broccoli, and more), lots of pieces of chicken. It was quite a big portion. The rice is a nice side to soak up all of the sauce. They had a little counter you can sit out along the their stall. Its a nice place to sit if you don't want to go outside. It was raining that night so definitely want to be inside. A good option if you are at the market and want Asian food. read more
I tried the combo dessert. I didn't know what to expect. I was impressed with my first sip, it was an explosion of sweet flavors. It was a good experience, I'm not sure I'll order it again though. But it's worth trying it once. My friend had the chicken sandwich, he like it too and he was happy with the portion as well. read more
I stopped by here this past Thursday evening with some coworkers for dinner. On a Roll is one of the myriad food stands located in the San Pedro Square Market. So what that means is that it is the type of place that you walk up to and order from before finding a seat in the communal area. There isn't too much to say about their food stall other than their menu is hung above them and has some pictures on it. They also only accept credit cards at $10 or over which slightly changed what I would order. For dinner on this evening I was all set on having a chicken bahn mi. However at $8, I wasn't going to be to put it on my corporate card and so switched it to thetritip instead. The guy at the counter told me that it would be 8 minutes and I stepped back to wait. Right around that time it was ready and I grabbed it and headed off to find my coworkers. The sandwich itself ended up being quite good as the tri tip was cooked perfectly and I loved whatever sauce was on it. It's ample vegetables made the sandwich feel healthy as well and the bread tasted good. It was a meal that I really enjoyed and if I had to change anything about it that would have to be a little less bread to the filling ratio. Don't let that deter you as it was still a pretty delicious sandwich. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. While I wasn't a fan of the $10 credit card minimum their food was good and won me over. read more

Got the Spring Rolls (chicken and shrimp?!). Loved it! The uh dipping sauce (I'm sorry, I don't know what it was) was so good, and it all paired perfectly with the chips. A friend of mine got the Pork Banh Mi, and it looked beautiful. read more

They give a lot of meat, like it was falling out. It's really flavorful and it isn't fibrous or chewy or tough. Good bread too. Really filling. If you mostly like banh mi for the meat, then you'll like this place. read more
Was looking for a place to get some Bahn Mi with a few of my friends. After walking through the marketplace, we decided to try On a Roll. I ordered the pork bahn mi and it was delicious! You can tell how much they were stuffing it, because once I started taking bites, my whole sandwich fell apart LOL. Still good though! The pork was well marinated and it was not too plain or too salty. I really enjoyed my bahn mi. Pictured here are two other bahn mi sandwiches, one is bbq pork and the other is chicken (I believe), as well as the teriyaki chicken plate! read more

Spring rolls: comes with fried chips! For the price ?$9.50) this was so satisfying and perfect for when you want something light and healthy! There's chicken and shrimp inside the rolls. Location in a food court area and you can bring your food to other seating areas too read more
San Pedro market square has a lot of options for food so the competition keeps everything yummy. This place is no exception. A sandwich here is priced much higher than most but then this is San Pedro market... They have a great selection of Vietnamese and Asian foods besides bahn mi like rice plates, egg rolls, spring rolls, soups, and noodles. I always seem to order the tri tip bahn mi (sandwich). This is unique to this place, and my favorite meal here. It has tri tip that is cooked and then simmered in a sweet onion based sauce. You get a cup of this yummy sauce with the sandwich for dipping, it really makes the meal. Its served on a fresh French baguette with French mayonnaise (butter mixed with mayo), cucumber, carrots, daikon, jalapenos, and cilantro. It's awesome! Lots of choices at the market but you have to give them a try! read more
We ate at On A Roll at the San Pedro Square Market. Their "storefront" is pretty unassuming, but damn was the chicken teriyaki plate good! The meat was very flavorful and good quality - not the chewy gross kind you usually find in chicken teriyaki - and there was a ton of it. The whole shebang was quite awesome. Great food, great value. I would come here for it every day! read more

Best pad Thai in downtown San Jose! The portions are pretty large and super filling. I got the chicken pad Thai without tofu and peanuts but it is still so tasty and savory. I have a really low tolerance for spice so it was on the spicier side for me but still delish! I will be coming back to this location for sure. The service is fast, friendly and reliable. Give this place a visit! read more

I have been coming here for quiet some time. I will typically get there by 11 when they open because they do get quite a line that stays consistent through lunch. Haven't visited on the weekend but the week day rush is just that a rush. Which of course means their food is yum, right? RIGHT! I have tried a couple of items from their menu and none have disappointed all have been really well executed. Flavorful and wonderfully presented. There is a walk up counter that you can eat at that is adorned with a few bar stools if you can't wait to dig in. Service is always pleasant, fast and with a smile. They even offer some yummy complimentary cold tea. I guess the best way to execute this review is to review each item I have tried thus far, so here we go: 1. Pad Thai: Noodles are delicious. Vegetables are crisp and fresh. Everything you want in a pad thai. I ask for extra peanuts and they gladly oblige my request. Oh and 1 order is plenty and can be shared. Moderately priced at $10.75. 2. Crispy Chicken over rice. Its a lightly breaded chicken alongside some rice and a salad. Oh and let's not forget the sweet yummy sauce it comes with that makes you wanna just bathe in it while you savor the flavors..lol! This portion too is plentiful and comes in at $10.75. 3. Now for my favorite. I definitely saved the BEST for last. They have a Tri-tip Banh Mi..ooohhmmyyggoossh. It's as if the heavens open up and the angels sing as you bite into this out of this world sandwich. The meat is tender and juicy. The bread is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The vegetables are fresh and crisp and the tri-tip sauce it comes with is like the cousin of the french dip like sauce. In eating this sandwich the sauce gets all over the place, and you end up licking your fingers and your lips and wondering where it's been all your life. It's a big sandwich and packed with a hearty serving of meat and comes at a price tag of $9.75. But unlike your last Plenty-O-Fish blind date you won't regret this choice. I'm done, you can head over there now ;-P! Helpful tips: They take all major credit cards and cash. If dining alone you can sit right at the counter. Try to get there before the rush and do yourself a favor and try the Tri-Tip Banh Mi! read more
With all the choices there is in San Pedro Square Market, I chose to go here cause I had that craving for some serious asian grub. Among the selections of food stalls (which ranged from mexican, american and Mediterranean), On a Roll got what I wanted and they serve it huge which is a plus for me! Typical none smiling crew they got. You tell them (in this case shout out while pointing) what you want and they tell you that it'll be done in a couple of minutes. I got the chicken salad which was huge. The meat to veggie ratio was decent for the price and tho I wanted to share my food, hubby is allergic to anything pickled or has vinaigrette (boo hoo) anyhoo.. more for me! Free tea is nice! read more
I only ordered some snacks from here, but I would definitely be back for a more substantial meal. I came in on a Friday night and I ordered a thai tea with boba and an order of coconut shrimp. Now, I freaking love coconut shrimp. It is one of my favorite snacks ever, but it's really hard for me to find good coconut shrimp except in Hawaii. Their thai tea was extremely delicious, although the boba had a slightly weird bumpy texture and it was a little too chewy. But it was okay since the drink itself was somewhat large for $5. The shrimps were $6 for 6 small pieces so I was a little disappointed since the portion weren't that big. The breading wasn't as light and fluffy I wanted-- the breading was a little too heavy. I don't quite remember what the sauce was, I think it was a sweet and sour sauce which I wasn't impressed by. I think they should have used a mango chutney type of sauce instead. However, their sandwiches and noodles looked delicious, so whenever I'm back in San Jose, I'll drop by and try something new. The workers were polite and efficient, and it's a cafeteria style, so you pay and pick up your food. read more

$6.50 for a pork banh mi sandwich. I suppose it's not incredibly high for a San Pedro Market dinner, but normally paying $4.00 for a banh mi is what I'm used to! The service was fine - nothing special and it was pretty quick to get my sandwich. Good balance between ingredients and bread, but I felt the bread was not of best quality. I'd probably come back here again if I really wanted some Vietnamese food to check out the other dishes! read more

This place is a great alternative to Dac Phuc, (though really, anything is a good alternative to Dac Phuc), although you are paying a *lot* more than you would at "real" Vietnamese places on Tully. I got the grilled pork noodle plate (bun thit nuong), and after begrudgingly handing over $10.50, was pleasantly surprised to see that it came with prawns and an eggroll (though it wasn't sliced) as well. Despite my cheap-ass moaning about the price, I can't deny that the pork, shrimp, and egg roll were all very well-made, which is the main reason that it's getting 4 stars instead of 3. Additionally, I don't know what kind of crack they added into their fish sauce + chili garlic sauce blend, but it was the most delicious fish sauce I've had in a long time. Anyway, I'll probably be back to try an egregiously high-priced banh mi ($5.95), but knowing that I can get almost the same for a couple bucks less every time will probably keep me from coming back. read more

On a Sharks hockey game night, this whole place San Pedro Square, is a happening place. Jammed with teal dressed peeps having a good time. Finding a sit down seat and table is near impossible...thank goodness they have stand up tables to hang out and eat....they have a variety of banh mi sandwiches but I decided on something different....a shrimp salad, which had a lovely marination that went perfect with the romaine lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers. read more
In the San Pedro Square Marketplace. I went to the (soft) opening day Fri 3/9/12, no deals I could see. They had printer problems for a while, told me to come back. I did and the place is a very disorganized right now & took forever to get my food, they should have given out free food or free drink or something. Probably better to try them in a few weeks or month. I got: BBQ Pork sandwich $5 - it's a huge roll with grilled pork, cilantro, some other veggies, mayo. I liked it ok. Vietnamese iced coffee $3.75 - it's strong coffee a bit sweet. It was nice enough. Fresh Spring rolls $5, noodle dish $8-9, No Pho I could see on menu, other sandwiches $5. read more
My ma caught a cold, so the closest place to get soup was here....and here's my take: I don't usually do corporate but when I do it's when I receive gift cards, free pizookie coupons, and happy hour. Here's how my experience went: Ambiance Parking | Plenty of parking whether it's street or garage. We came here on a Tuesday evening for Surf City nights at around 6pm. We didn't have any problems at the garage 2 streets over 2 dollars for 2 hours? I'm down with that. Seating | Plenty of seating outside and inside however it does get pretty packed. The tall seats are on a first come first serve basis though. Feels | In the heart of Huntington Beach Main Street. Coming here during Surf City nights is an additional plus. Feel free to watch a game or even people watch. It's a nice place for almost any type of night. Food: Wonton Egg Noodle Soup (Recommend) * A medley of protein from sea to land, it's a very good fulfilling mix. For those cold weathers and in need of something warm. Grilled Chicken Noodle Plate (A-OK) * Another good fulfilling plate. I just added more sriracha to spice things up. Beef Tri-tip (A-OK) * Pretty good. The beef was cooked well and the vegetables mixed together makes it flavorful. Once again, it ain't a $50 steak but it gets the job done. Customer Service: Came here on a Thursday lunch and they were fairly quick. Overall: 3.5 Nothing amazing or must but it gets the job done. I can see how it's overpriced since it's the only Vietnamese place in San Pedro Market thus making it convenient ofr people in the area in the mood for Vietnamese or boba. TL;DR Tips: * Seating is all San Pedro * Free water read more

I have no idea why this spot has low reviews. I was craving some fried goodness and opted in for the fried coconut shrimp and fried chicken pieces. The coconut shrimp was sooo good. It was perfectly fried, not at all greasy, and the coconut flavor really came through. The sweet chili sauce really rounded off the meal super well and it made for an awesome snack. The fried chicken pieces were also good and perfectly crispy yet tender on the i side. Will definitely be back when I'm a bit more hungry for an actual meal. Loved it! read more

Very sweet staff, efficient, & high-quality Vietnamese-Chinese fusion food. Their Coconut Chicken Curry & spring rolls were the bomb.com. Flavors are really the best of both Vietnamese & Chinese cuisines, so in my eyes this is the epitome of great fusion food. I will 200% be back! read more
