When I called in to find out what was going on, they had an AI assistant answer the phone that barely worked. They finally called me back, put me on hold for a while, and then said they'd be at least another hour. Seems like this company is too big for its britches. I won't be hiring them again--going back to a smaller company that actually cares about the customer. What's my issue? I scheduled an appointment and burned afternoon PTO waiting during a 2-hour window. No one showed, and no one bothered to call. When I reached out twice, I was trapped in a completely unhelpful, robotic AI assistant from India that failed to handle basic routing. After being placed on hold and disconnected (the AI said they would call back), I finally got a call back from operations--only to be told the tech was running another hour late (which would have been 1 and 1/2 hrs past the window). When I expressed reasonable frustration over a wasted afternoon and said this was ridiculous, the dispatcher offered zero empathy or accountability, gave a cold "Okay, bye," and hung up. If your techs are running behind, basic field operations dictating contacting the customer 45 minutes ahead of time--not leaving them in the dark, wasting their time, and hiding behind cold script readers and a robotic AI. Unacceptable way to treat customers. Here is a basic operations communication map Step 1: Appointment Scheduled & Tech En Route * Field Assessment: Tech assesses job progress 45-60 minutes prior to the next window. * On Schedule? Proceed to customer site. * Behind Schedule? Trigger proactive dispatch notification. Step 2: Proactive Customer Outreach (Before Window Lapses) * Tech or Operations sends a quick SMS/Call: "We're running ~30-45 mins behind on our current job. So sorry for the delay! Would you like us to come slightly later today, or would you prefer to reschedule at your convenience?" * Option A: Customer Accepts Delay -Tech proceeds; Operations tracks ETA. * Option B: Customer Reschedules -Immediate priority re-booking with zero hassle and empathy. Step 3: Inbound Customer Inquiries (If Delayed) * Customer calls in regarding status -Route directly to a live dispatcher (bypass automated bots for active appointment windows). * Dispatch Response Track: * Cold & Callous Track: Put customer on hold - Minimal explanation - Dismiss frustration -Customer cancels & leaves 1-star review. * Warmth & Empathy Track: Validate lost time/PTO - Provide precise ETA - Offer immediate service fee credit/discount for the hassle - Return to Step 1 for future service. ... Last year, after doing extensive research, we hired 888 to install a new furnace and heat pump, as…read morewell as a smart thermostat, for our house. They were not the cheapest or the most expensive but they have great reviews so we trusted that and the people we spoke with for the estimate. They came out and it took two full days for them to finish the job. They worked 12 hour days and made sure everything was working perfectly before leaving. Every time we had an issue (which were always small things) they came out within an hour or two. When the city inspector came out to give everything the ok, he said that they never have any problems with work done by 888. That was very reassuring. This year we had them come out to replace our other furnace and install another heat pump and smart thermostat. My house needs two furnaces but because of the requirements for tax incentives, we could only replace one per year. Tom, Omar, and Lee worked for two whole days and made sure everything was working perfectly. They made sure to put down drop cloths from the front door all the way to the basement and into the furnace room so they wouldn't track in any snow or dirt. They were conscientious and hard working and cleaned up after themselves nicely. They addressed all of our questions and made sure we were happy before they left. They do still need to get us the frame that goes around our new thermostat but I'm sure that will be done soon.
