We went into the Shut Down escape room. Its a few separate linked rooms; not just 1 you gotta escape. It's rated as a 2 out of 5 but I think its more like a 4 or 5. There were some things in there that you would next-to-never figure out thats what you're supposed to do to crack the code unless you have been in a lot of Escape rooms and kind of already have a sense of how to crack different types of codes. The staff said most people only make it half way through the game, then they invite you to either pay the full price and book again another day OR just have a staff explain the rest. Basically they make it so hard that you can't complete it, let alone in 1hr, so that you'll have to pay and come back again to finish it. Seems like a Money grab. Even when I asked the staff the logic behind figuring out some of the steps, even she couldn't explain it. So yea maybe try other Escape businesses read more

Located in Scarborough I had never heard about this place or this concept before. Not exactly an escape room but more like a catch me if you can inside a maze deal based on various scenarios the staff have. First things - they make you sign a waiver. You or someone in your group will probably get hurt - fall, scrapes, bruises, etc. Expect it, but it's nothing too serious. Make sure you wear gym like clothes and sneakers. You will run. A LOT. And bring water. Based on the game/scenario it's essentially like you are running around a maze, hiding, trying not to get tagged out (similar to flag football you get a flag that a person has to rip off). Each game is about 8-10 minutes so you get a few in for your time slot. Overall it was great fun and definitely a workout. Don't eat anything heavy before you go, you'll regret it. There is parking in the back (drive straight down the narrow laneway between the buildings). I believe it came out to under $30/person - a great way to spend an evening. This type of event is better with a larger group in my opinion - we had a group of about 12. Also, you can sit outside the maze and watch on the tv monitors the people running around the maze - it's kinda funny :) read more

In addition to the Markham location of Omescape, they have a second location in Scarborough as well! This location is situated on Kennedy Road north of Lawrence Avenue East. Similar to the Markham location, they have a range of multi-difficulty level multi-room escape games and include high-tech components. Each room is themed differently with a different plot. We played the one-hour "Virus Outbreak" designed for 3 to 8 players. We had 4 players in our team. We were definitely stumped with the puzzles in this room but had such a blast trying to decipher the clues. There were so many authentic-looking and high-tech components! I loved it. I really appreciated how the staff gave us some extra time at the end of the game even though our 60 minutes were already up. It wasn't until we asked for a clue that one of the staff members finally came to get us. She walked us through the remainder of the game and how to escape the last part (turns out we were only 60% done!). The "Virus Outbreak" room was so thorough and well-designed. Before we left, we took a group photo in front of the chalkboard mural with props. I'm so glad we got to come here to play a game! They also have an "Epic Runner" obstacle style course as well! Their online booking form is easy to use (they require a $25 deposit that is used towards your payment to secure the booking) and their staff is quick in responding to inquiries. Upon arrival, if you check in on social media (Facebook or Instagram, etc.), you can receive a $3 off per person. I really enjoyed the "Defend the Magic Academy" room. It was my first escape room at their Scarborough location (the Markham one is much closer to me). The room was intricate with different types of puzzles to be solved. It wasn't the same type of puzzle over and over again like at other escape rooms. I also liked that it didn't involve any number locks - I hate those! There were stages and rooms to go through which is always exciting. The service was excellent. The gentleman helping us was friendly and very easy to communicate with. The only downside is the cost. It was almost $80 for two people. I do think it's worth it because there are several rooms to go through and many puzzles to solve. It's fun with a big group. We had 8 people and it was a great time. However, it isn't something I would do all the time or even once a month, because of the price. read more

This place was smaller than I expected but overall a fun place. I came here for a birthday event for the running man event. "Running man" is based on a korean tv show where people run in a maze-like room with their team and try to rip off tags of the opponents team to disqualify them. They have several modes which was fun and interesting however slowly got repetitive. Be careful when going with competitive and agressive friends. They also do not have fridge space to keep any cakes. Overall a fun atmosphere and friendly staff with a decent price. I believe $26/person. read more

So glad this place opened because I've done all the rooms at the Markham location. The quality of rooms here were on par with Markham. We did the Shutdown, which was rated 2/5. Thought it'd be super easy, but definitely not the case. Each puzzle still required thinking and we made it out just in time. The design of the room was super cool and just overall very clean and bright. Had a blast, and definitely coming back to finish the rest of the rooms and try the Epic Runner! read more

Played Dark Alter (4/5 difficulty) with the recommended 6 people. The room itself was done fairly well, though the "out of bounds" stickers are kind of distracting. We were told to listen to the audio closely because there would be clues in there, but none of us heard anything useful so it was a huge waste of time since the clocks started as soon as the door closed. We also noticed there was a hook for blindfolds, so I'm guessing we were supposed to be brought in the room blindfolded - kind of glad we weren't cuz I don't know how clean those would be! Bottom line, take out the sign that says 'place blindfolds here' if you're not going to bother putting them on players. I like that were were unlimited clues but when we asked for one, the game-master was super judgey and asked if we were sure we wanted one since "we hadn't even started". DUDE. That's why we're asking. Anyway, it was fairly smooth sailing on our part after that, though I felt like there was a significant delay between when we got a puzzle correct and when the next room/puzzle would activate. Aesthetic was fantastic, game story was meh, puzzles were mostly fun. A couple seemed really time-intensive but not that difficult. Biggest complaint is the LAST puzzle of the game - we did it correctly but didn't get the 'big finish' with the sound effects, lights, etc. read more

Technically speaking I would give them 4.5 but leaned towards 5 over 4 because of the overall experience. Epic runner This game is great for a bunch of good friends whom are competitive and have the urge to just get in there and go for it. Somewhat like tag in a maze for adults, the experience was worth coming back for. Their course itself (the maze) is a bit hazardous as everything is mainly plywood with little foam covering so people can get hurt, but other than that, the obstacles within the maze were creative and challenging. They also let u play a few different games in the maze for around 5 minutes, which may be enough but also I wanted more. The escape rooms are really good as well. Without spoiling them, omescape provides a lot of involvement in the rooms without having real life actors in the room with you. Needless to say, although a heaping 28 bucks is rather expensive, the experience is worth it compared to its competitors. read more

I see myself as easily impressed with escape rooms. If all parts work, great! I came with friends after dinner so we were rolling in. We did the Shut Down room. Story was alright, though I was never a fan of lore so this didn't affect my rating. Let's cut to the chase. This room was 2/5 difficulty, which is accurate. Puzzles took a good 1-2 minutes to solve and we had to only use actual hints twice. Otherwise, we knew what we had to do... But the flash games were a real bother. I'm going to try not to spoil, but basically, the games required patience more than ability. We spent 14 minutes on this one part and it was just ridiculous because we knew how to get through it, but sometimes the software glitched and we were forced to restart. The staff saw us struggling and offered to bypass it for us after seeing us do the procedure correctly. Another part is that one of the stages required looking at a screen that reset itself in a very short amount of time. The visual theme chosen for this really hurt our eyes after several minutes of intense staring. This part ate up 8 mins. Our optic stems were charred after that stage. Honestly, the difficulty rating is accurate because we all knew what to do very shortly after encountering the stage. But when parts of the stage required the utmost patience and not ability, that was frustrating. I feel that they should readjust some of the time settings and also iron out the software kinks to ensure everything runs smoothly and no glitching happens. read more

First time going to Omescape Scarborough and was less than impressed. My friends and I tried the "Defend the Magic Academy" room. The Game Masters were polite but the room was riddled with glitches which completely hindered and ruined our gameplay. Without giving too much away about the room: we had several malfunctions, which lead to a lot of confusion and lost time. The room was so glitchy that they even had to have us leave the entire room at one point (and for quite awhile) so they could reset everything. Even after the reset, the tech utilized kept stalling or was just not working. For ex. We had the right answers but some of the puzzles and the tech would not register it until multiple tries. There were also huge lags in registering a sequence of answers. The staff were all polite as they apologized and tried to add some extra time to the game. However, it was definitely not as much as we lost due to all the malfunctions. I understand they also need to make sure the next game starts relatively on time as well but overall, with all the glitches and malfunctions, it vastly diminished our experience. I can't speak to any of the other rooms at this location but I can definitively state that it was quite frustrating, disappointing, and definitely not worth the premium price paid. Had it been working properly, this room would probably not disappoint. Especially if you're a Harry Potter fan. I've never been to an escape room where so much went so wrong on their part. They did not offer any kind of compensation for this severely botched game or even a discount for a future visit. I highly do not recommend Omescape Scarborough's Defend the Magic Academy room unless they can fix all the tech issues. read more

I came to Omescape as part of a team building activity and... IT. WAS. SO. FUN. We played the Red Admiral which is Cold War-esque themed room with a 4/5 difficulty rating. There were about 8 of us and most of us (including myself) were escape game noobs - only 2 of our group members had done one before. The puzzles were multifaceted and extremely challenging however, once you got the hang of how to solve the first couple of puzzles, it became easier. Plus, you can always use your hints if you get stumped. Being stubborn, my group did not use any hints and were just one solution shy of beating the game. The staff were friendly and energetic, giving us a couple extra minutes to try and finish on our own before showing us how to beat the game. The game was really immersive and we were sad that there was a time limit on it -- we all had a blast. This being a school-sponsored team building activity, I can't speak about the pricing. The interior was clean and very appealing to a nerd like me. Definitely worth checking out! read more

I haven't tried their escape room, and in some ways the venue, while good, is somewhat unspectacular; however, they deserve a bump in rating by virtue of having the only (to my knowledge) running man/maze facility in the city. It turns out that the Epic Runner was a total thrill. The concept is fairly simple. The maze area is comparable to laser tag layout, albeit with some longer corridors (which allows for faster running), as well as some crawl spaces and obstacles. There's a variety of games, but the essence is that you're in teams, and either chasing or being chased, with a flag (like flag football) which you're trying to take from others, whilst not losing your own. I tended to prefer the games with basic rules as there's something to be said about the adrenaline that comes from the primal experience of chasing and being chased. But the variety is good to appeal to more people and to have varying levels of physical intensity and even problem solving. It's legitimately a good workout as you're often running at full speeds. Forget about even casual clothing - you'll want to opt for your workout clothes since that's what you're in for. Don't get too worked up about some of the warnings of injury - the few bumps and bruises our group experienced were largely self-induced by running into walls or obstacles. It's more a case of watching where you go rather than someone else causing injury to you. Honestly, for about $25/person, there's not a lot better you're going to do with a group of about a dozen friends than coming here. Fully recommend it. read more

I came here for Epic Runner and to be honest, I didn't see the reason why they insist on running shoes. Looking back in hindsight, I probably should have brought my actual running shoes instead of just street shoes. I spent a lot of time running through the maze and evading other people and that would have been much better in my running shoes... A warning beforehand, you'll probably end up with a few cuts and scratches here and there, but they do provide bandaids and rubbing alcohol. You will run, so bring water unless your cardio is top notch or your friends can't run. There is a foam pit! Don't bring your life (cellphone) into the pit or you'll probably lose it. Some of the people I was with saw a couple lives in there. The lobby is nice, it's a nice open area for waiting for other people or having a party. The maze looks mostly like plywood walls painted in bright neon colors, some of the steps are a little off so careful with your footing. Otherwise it is simple and does the job. The staff here were friendly and polite. They explained the game modes clearly in a manner that optimized your run time. Most everything here is quite clean, from the actual facilities to the washroom/changeroom so I'm not overly concerned. The cost is pretty reasonable and you can get a discount for checking in beforehand (everyone has to check-in) Overall, I'd definitely recommend this place for those who seek an intense game of tag experience. Side note: I hope they add in a few more obstacles cause a lot of the straight paths are too easy for faster people to run. Also a ball pit somewhere would just be awesome, just cause ball pits are cool. read more

I went during the holidays with my relatives and it was a great bonding experience! Both escape rooms are well designed and the technology used was comparatively more advanced that the ones in Markham - I did also enjoy the Markham location rooms too, but I'd give this location a slight edge. I tried 2 escape games here. Defend the magic academy and red admiral. Both games are very fun. There's quite a lot of cool mechanics and the difficulties of the puzzle was just right for our group. But what you HAVE to try is the Epic Runner game they have here. It's not an escape room game. It's a 90 minute experience where you play different games inspired from the show running man. For example you have to rip off tags off of opposing players teams to see who has the most life at the end. You get to play about 4 different types of games and they're all very fun. It does get physical and you will have to run a lot! Make sure to wear something comfortable and bring a good pair of running shoes. Our host Andy was also amazing. He made sure everyone had a great experience. They have many different game types and I definitely want to go again someday to play the other epic runner games. read more

Came here for a friend's birthday and we ended up doing one of the harder rooms. I have to say that I am impressed. We almost didn't finish our room in time and everyone present (a group of 7) had done escape rooms before (some of us, frequently). I take a star away because it's the most expensive escape room I've been to (aside from Casa Loma -- which we won't get into here). I think the cost is too high, however, for a rare occasion this place blew me away. It really tests all sorts of knowledge and skill, which is why having a larger group paid off for us. I would love to try some more, especially because they really cater to delivering an experience to you while you're in the room. read more

I have done many escape rooms before but this was my first time doing an escape room at Omescape Scarborough. The service here is excellent! The staff there is super nice and polite. The place is also super clean too. There are tables for you and your friends to chat or play board games if you come in earlier than your reserved time. Make sure you make reservations online to secure a spot. There's a $25 deposit fee. Check in on facebook to receive a $3 discount per person! We did the Virus Outbreak escape room. The level of difficulty is 4/5 and that's about correct. The game was very engaging and all the puzzles made sense. It was somewhat challenging for me, but this room was very doable. I am glad that there were no technical errors as I have experienced that many times at other escape rooms before. I was told that they do quality control. Omescape Scarborough lived up to the same hype as Markham and it was definitely worth the 5 stars. We have done both the Epic Runner here as well as one of their escape rooms. Can never complain about the service here as the employees are always kind and knowledgeable about any questions we may ask. 5/5. For Epic Runner it was a blast. It's basically like tag but you're trying to rip off these tags that are on your waist. They created some really fun games that even had some betrayal and secrecy in them such as not knowing whose side someone was on until they tried to attack you! The play setting is fairly large and I thought it was big enough for the amount of people we had (8). For the Escape Rooms. Just like in Markham, the escape room was a wonderful design. Omescape never disappoints with their escape rooms. We did the Russian room among 1 other but that was a while ago and I've forgotten the name, but it was good haha. The design is always smart and you really need to use your noggin! No complaints about anything! This is my first time coming to this location and overall I think that they've done a good job. The technology is great and it is multi-room (I did the Red Admiral) which is fantastic cause I feel it is what I am paying for. I loved their use of sounds and especially the use of technology which made it very advanced. Although Red Admiral is one of their newest rooms, there are some glitches/bugs that needs to be tweaked better. Our experience was borderline disappointing simply because one of the puzzles in the beginning was not aligned properly. We've wasted a good 10 minutes trying to decipher what we may have done wrong when in turn it was not because of our logic but rather the design of the game was a little flawed. Moving onto some of the codes in the keypad - we've also spent another good couple of long minutes typing codes into a keypad following the supposed puzzle pattern. Again - logic was there but it requires numerous times of pressing the same code to work. Quite odd but the worker also mentioned that some users have experience this issue as well. They also mention that the puzzles do not repeat as in, once you've moved on to one part - you don't go back to use those props that helped you get to the next puzzle. Unfortunately in this case, we can recount about two times where it wasn't true. Was a little misleading since we started to confuse or doubt ourselves. Also - times when you had to reuse it - there was a relatively large physical space gap to go back and forth to solve puzzles. Arguably you can say communication to feed down the chain is important - but reading hieroglyphics are quite hard to describe which in turn also milked our time. In general, we finished in about a little over an hour. I think they'll need to continue ironing out the little details before this room becomes an optimal experience. read more

We did defend the magic academy with 4 people. At $37.50 ish per person, it's not cheap, but it's also a very well thought out 90 minute room. We did it with 3 minutes left on the clock. I appreciate that it wasn't a room predominantly based on whether or not you can find all the bits and pieces of your clues, but more about deciphering the clues themselves. For the most part, one thing led to another. Probably the best escape room I've ever done, not that I've tried all that many. After this experience though, I definitely want to do their other rooms. read more

Omescape never failed us. After visiting their Markham store, we continued our adventure to their 2nd store in Scarborough. Virus Outbreak - absolutely amazing and there're several Surprise~~ moments in this game. Besides, they use real water! The ending is my favorite part and my heart beats so fast. Red Admiral - Within the 10+ games we played in Toronto, we laugh the most in this game. I don't want to spoil anything but there's some SUPER COOL parts in this game that you don't want to miss. A thrilling, immersive, fun escape game! Definitely my favorite one in Toronto! Epic Runner - Not an escape game but so eager to try it, unfortunate we only have 5 people. As an adrenaline junkie, Epic Runner was the perfect place to release some epinephrine over several intense games. The arena is built for no more than 20, but I recommend no more than 15 at a time. Be prepared to test your agility as well as endurance and persuasive skills in order to survive. We played a series of different games a few times: team elimination, zombie verses humans, and a hierarchy game (similar to the board game, "Avalon" and "Bang!"). Remember to wear comfortable shoes and lightweight clothes since you will work up a sweat. If you forget to bring a drink, don't fret since water bottles are sold for $1 each. There are bins to put your personal belongings in as well, but if you are paranoid, leave them inside your car. The staff members are informative and professional, so do not hesitate to speak up if needed. Keep in mind that accidents can occur, either from scratches from others or scraping your skin off some surfaces. Beware of the metal pipes in one section of the arena, as well as the steps leading to and from the foam pit (they are relatively high!). I recommend this place for those who are looking for something new to do and/or a fan of the show. However, keep in mind that the tags are situated on a belt around your waist and not on your back. The downside to this is when others move the tags from the sides to their back. TIP: Please remember to cut your nails! It hurts if you accidentally jam your fingers and/or have your skin scratched off from others. Band-aids and alcohol swabs are offered, along with guards (hands, knees, and elbows). read more

This is a great spot to remind you how old/unused to tag you are. I came here with a bunch of Yelpers for the tag activity. There are quite a few obstacles, requiring you to jump over stuff, duck under stuff, crawl under stuff and make your way across a foam pit. The games are run by an employee there who times it, takes score and explains the games. The games themselves are a ton of fun and range from super simple to kind of confusing (I'm looking at you, secret agent game) I can definitely recommend this as a place to go with a big group of friends if you're looking for some physical, lighthearted fun. read more

I've done their new room - ShutDown with a group of 4. Overall it was nicely designed with decent decor; however I wasn't a big fan as a lot of their clues were pretty repetitive. But considering the difficulty of the room was pretty low, I guess it could make sense.. I like the Markham location way more since there are more rooms and bigger lounge. But I am willing to come back and try their Virus room and the running room and update my review then. Unlike the Markham location, the Scarborough location has a much smaller waiting area and by extension a few board games only. There's no Presto tea here, but instead it has Epic Runner, a series of running games in a maze like environment. I highly recommend gathering enough people to do epic runner with your own friends only. if you have a small group, you will have strangers in your group (max 20 people). In my opinion, the games are only fun when you know everyone else. There are a series of games the host will go through with you, and boy they are exhausting. However, though the maze is well designed and very spacious, the space needs more obstacles. There are crawl spaces here and there, but it would be fun to jump or climb over things. It would be even more fun to have props or curtains just to spice things up. I definitely recommend trying at least once, but not much incentive to come again. Their escape rooms are also different than the Markham location. Definitely worth checking out. read more

The staff here are very friendly and informative. I came here for Epic Runner which is a game inspired by the popular Korean Variety Show "Running Man". The gist of this is that you and your friends get to play mini-games whereby the goal is to get eachother "out". It is similar to flag football. I don't want to go into the details of the game as it would spoil the experience. I really think you should go as a group of 12-20, anymore would be difficult to navigate. I believe we had an extremely large group of 20-24 people. In the end, we even managed to do a mannequin challenge and the staff entertained our silly idea. It was fun, worth the money, and super memorable. It does get a little rough when you play this game, so no hard feelings at the end right? Tips: - Wear runners (I didn't and managed, but trust me it would be better) - Bring water - Wear sporty clothing, not jeans - Be prepared to get minor injuries lols - Be open-minded, it's okay to lose (but better to win =p) - Have fun! read more

Having recently gotten addicted to escape rooms over the past year, I've raced through 16 rooms to date, mostly in the GTA and 1 in Vancouver. Omescape remains one of my top facilities in terms of overall experience and design. Since there is already a multitude of reviews on Omescape in general, I'll base mine on the two rooms I've done at this location. Defend the Magic Academy -- For fellow fans of Harry Potter (not to make any obvious comparisons), this room is a must. I went with a group of 5 and thoroughly enjoyed the variety of puzzles, as well as one unique feature of game play that we've never seen at any other facility. The multi-room design, decor, and puzzles were clean and immersive. Haters of lock boxes and password hunts would be pleased, as there are none to be found. My only complaint for this experience is that we kind of came to the end rather suddenly and did not know we had finished the room until we recognized the outer hallway - no staff came to retrieve us and we had to walk out to the main lobby wishing the escape could have lasted longer. Nyctophobia -- I personally have a phobia of almost everything in life, including definitely darkness, but could not resist booking this room as soon as beta testing ended. Having survived the escape, I can officially nominate this as the scariest room I've done so far, and would not recommend it to non-fans of horror genres. They are true to their word that this room has minimal lighting, and uses darkness, sound effects, and jump scares to create a terrifying atmosphere that had both guys and girls screaming. At a risk of slightly spoiling the experience, I will only mention that I appreciate the room tried to split the group as a clever scare tactic. There is a small chance of bumping into things in the darkness, so don't move too quickly - we were still able to escape with about 13 minutes remaining. Unlike my other times at Omescape, this one received top marks for immersive experience. Overall, an impressive and entertaining time. Will return to try all their future rooms without a doubt. read more

I just tried the new omescape location! It is still getting fully set up and varies a bit differently from the markham location. I love omescape markham and quickly have done all rooms, and I have been desperately looking for more rooms to do from this company. The place is a little hard to find because I find the sign does not stand out. There is also a median in the road so you have to circle back or turn left on Warwick gate if you're going south on Kennedy. If you go north on Kennedy you should still turn right onto Warwick gate as the parking lot off there. I was hoping there was a food booth but nothing but a little fridge with drinks :( poo. I don't think there will be a presto tea in this location, but it would have been good... There are currently no board games at the time, so it is just rooms. I hope they get board games because the longevity of their business could be compromised from long term customers. We decided to do viral outbreak and it was very nice! Just make sure to wear shoes you don't care for ;) They seem to have a epic runner thing similar to an obstacle course....not built yet but sounds fun. read more

The escape games are definitely worth the price. The props are very good and the rooms are IMMERSIVE! We did the premium room, defend the magic academy. It took a bit of time for us to get through some of the puzzles (2/5 of our teammates were drunk though, and escape games are definitely a sober activity). The puzzles were definitely a good level of difficulty; not too difficult but not too easy. Very stimulating and a bit unconventional compared to other places I have been! We came here for the Epic Runner on a Tuesday night and had it booked for 7:00-9:00 for 11 people. Definitely recommend doing this activity! It suits parties of 10-20, and it's perfect for trying out a different activity with friends. It is a huge indoor active maze/obstacle course and they offer 12 different game modes. We were able to play 4-5 games during our time slot. The games vary in difficulty, strategies, and the teams switch from time to time, so you're always doing different things with different people. Most games require running, attacking other players (in a nice way), and strategic plays. Without spoiling much of the game area because it really is a nice surprise once you get in there, there are different play areas in the maze/course. The person who was our instructor and narrator the entire game was hilarious and very nice as well! Each player paid $28, which is a nice deal considering the amount you do during your time there. There is a social media discount as well, so you can save even more. Definitely was a memorable place! Remember to bring active wear clothes as well! read more

Completely disregard my last review!!! I came back to Omescape Scarborough to do the very popular Virus Outbreak room, and the new room that's called Defence of the Magic Academy... or something? Can't remember. Both were ah-ma-zing. Omescape Scarborough truly trumps all other escape room locations I've been to in terms of originality, creativity, and technology. Their use of space in the new magic room is very unique. The puzzles were super engaging for the whole group, and so clever. The room is slightly based on the HP series. They give you 90 minutes for this one because it is PACKED with puzzles. There's just puzzle after puzzle and each one is really fun to figure out. The Virus Outbreak room is a little more challenging--the Magic room is more straightforward, I would say--but still, great room appearance, genius puzzles and just an overall amazing experience. Also, in the Magic room there is a lil personal surprise that got my group so excited! If you ever do this room, you'll see what I mean. 10/10 would recommend to all the escape room enthusiasts out there. read more
