I was looking…read moreto buy the car off my dad to use as a commuter car but if you know Maryland you know that state inspection can be a hurdle so before I committed to the car I wanted it inspected and passed. The car failed with a belt issue. As far as I know it's the original belt, so for a 13 year old car to only be dinged for a belt I was really happy as I was expecting a laundry list of items to be wrong with the thing. The service advisor even brought the belt out and showed me what was wrong and it was definitely frayed, cracking, and dry rotting. I confirmed I wanted the belt replaced and they said it should be done in a couple hours. For circumstances out of their control that didn't happen (thanks parts store :D) but they quickly offered to valet me to work. They then picked me up at the end of the day to pick up my car. All said I paid roughly 450 for inspection and a new belt which was a big positive for me. As old as the car is I was expecting several items to be out of compliance and had a budget of 1500. As far as if they are above or below cost of other places I don't really know. The belt job may have honestly been a touch higher than I would've wanted but the valet, expediency and general vibe of honesty is worth a premium. I'm not even sure if the price really was "a touch higher", I'm blessed to not spend tons of time at an auto shop getting repairs all the time to really be able to do comparisons on price. I'll definitely be going here from now on as long as I live in the area. I magnet'd the business card my service advisor gave me to the fridge and told my roommate if he needs a shop to go here so I think that's pretty decent praise.

Made appointments and confirmed multiple times just to show up and have them to say I'm not on the schedule and turn me away. And then there's the actual mechanic work. I had SO many complications with the initial installation they made, and not only did they refuse to take responsibility, but their mistake caused me to be fined. The issues pursued on and off for MONTHS before I finally took my car to a more reputable mechanic. He said it was a "very crappy installment" and removed and replaced all the parts H&H worked on. I have had zero issues since. I also now go to Caton Auto in Laurel for recalibrations, which are MUCH cheaper there and the staff is incredibly helpful. This shop is closest to me, but I drive all the way to College Park now because I can actually trust the service there. Fortunately, I will never have to go to this shop again.

Don't be fooled by the simplicity and grittiness of the shop - they do quality work at affordable rates. They can get swamped sometimes so definitely call ahead. I made the mistake of just stopping by on a Saturday morning for an oil change but had to come back the following weekend because they were booked. Recent comparison shopping - I needed front brake pads & rotors. The dealership wanted to charge $700. At Auto Doctor, I only paid $400 which included an oil change and tire rotation. Huge savings and I could not be happier with the work. I highly recommend this shop - great service and prices.

Whenever I go to the service department at the car dealership and they give me a list of "recommendations", I politely tell them, "just the oil change please" and then I go to Savco to see what I can save. I know that Mike and his team will tell me the real deal about my car and not try to just make a buck. I truly appreciate that. The level of customer service and care that they show their customers is unmatched in car repair shops. Whenever I go, people walk in and say "hey Mike" and he greets them with a smile. If your car is in need of some TLC, take your baby to Savco. You won't get any coffee or snacks. You won't get a complimentary car wash. When I arrived for that appoinment I was told I should wait for it would only take 20 minutes. After a hour and 15 minutes I asked how much longer and was told they are finishing the installation. Another 30 minutes pass and I was informed that they needed a different mirrow and woud be contacted when it the replacement would arrive. The bottom line is for a 20 minute initial installation I was at this shop 5 different days a total of over 6 hours and the job was not completed for worthless explanations; could not get it calabrated, we need another time to paint it, we are ordering a new one etc. The last visit I was told the car was being washed and it would be ready in 10 minutes - a complete lie. I asked for the manager and was told they were having problems installing it. All these visits I was misinformed, actually lied to, on the time frame to replace the mirror of which none were accurate. I left without the mirror replaced. Went to another shop, part was ordered and when it arrived, I waited while they replaced in in 55 minutes. I have used RPM a number of times with good results, but this experience could not have been any worse. ps I have never written a negative review before - but I feel this is extremely warrented.
