Pool Remodel Success! In the early fall of 2022 we sought bids to re-plaster our 35 year-old pool, convert to an LED lighting system and replace a cracked skimmer. We wanted to get as far away as possible from the original uncomfortable and ugly PebbleTec coating as practical... and we did! We're well experienced at doing due diligence on major remodel projects, and our pool was no exception. One company had been highly recommended on NextDoor.com so we invited a bid from them. We found numerous others and invited bids from each. A couple of them were totally out of touch price-wise, so were quickly eliminated. We thoroughly investigated reputations of the others. In the process we learned that, realistically, each of the companies had at least one skeleton in the closet - even years back. The unhappy customer of any business will always be the first to post negative feedback. But some of these vendors had current feedback that was awful. They were eliminated, leaving us just two companies who we thought were serious contenders. And their pricing was within about $1,500 of one another. So we dug further into the fine details of their proposals and selected the firm whose proposal best matched the exact finished product we wanted. That company was Oly's Pools from Valley Center. It was a good decision. From the first meeting with Robert Thompson of Oly's we felt that he was a straight-shooter. He did not promise they would start in a couple of weeks and just blow it out; that was unrealistic. He estimated they would be ready to start near the end of January and that's exactly when the demolition began. Of course, that was in the middle of the wettest winter here in years, so there were unpredictable and unavoidable weather delays through much of February. They had to re-pump the pool numerous times. But, when the weather was good they were here working. Our pool was completed in Late March and we could not be more pleased. Robert did not promise what he could not deliver and delivered what he promised. We chose a plaster product called QuartzScapes Reflections Series, in a medium dark blue with a touch of quartz sparkle. It is beautiful beyond our expectations. When one undertakes a remodeling project of any consequence there a certain expectations: The contractor will show up when promised; they will actually work a full day, not just come for awhile then saunter off to another job; they will be friendly and professional, respectful of your property, and clean up after themselves. And, finally, that the finished product will meet or exceed your expectations. That's a logical but not always accomplished list with every contractor. We can say unequivocally that Oly's Pools set a high bar and met all of our expectations. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND them for your pool remodel project as people of integrity and immense skill. read more

If you're considering doing business with Oly's Pool and Spa Plastering, buy a BIG BOTTLE of extra-strength Tylenol before you sign the contract. The owner, Bobby Thompson, has 2 pool companies and Oly's isn't his business focus. He's not a regular visitor to the job site. We saw him twice. Once to assess the project and once to inspect the botched outcome. The quality of the job was so poor that he reduced final price by $3,000. His reply to our enumeration of the problems plaguing the project was a glib "shit happens". Yes, it does and it did happen on this job! Once the majority of the chiseled pool plaster had been manually removed by the demo crew, Oly's project manager tried to vacuum out the remainder through the main-house, clean-out drain. Chunks of plaster remained in the drain line and "plugged up" the plumbing. Not once but three times. We had someone living in our casita and Bobby said we should instruct them to not use the toilet. Come on, man! Really!! The fun didn't stop there. If we hadn't been monitoring the progress of the replastering effort, we would have a white pool rather than the gray color specified in the contract. The foreman of the plastering crew called Bobby. Not long into the conversation we heard "but you told me white" emphatically uttered by the foreman. It was later revealed by members of the plastering crew that miscommunication between Bobby, his "short-cut taking" project manager and the plastering crew was not uncommon. The crew had to remove the white plaster that been applied to roughly 20% of the pool (some had dried to the point of not being able to be effectively removed). The crew had a bottle of colorant on the truck and begun to formulate gray plaster. They had to hurry because of the real possibility that plaster would harden in the 3-inch hose. The outcome of plastering job was predictable considering such frenzied circumstances. Issues included incomplete batch mixing so that splotches of black colorant are visible on surfaces of the pool, discolored areas where the initially-applied white plaster was unable to be effectively removed, uneven (not even close!) plaster finishing and areas that had been sanded or wiped to an uncomfortably, rough texture. I discovered after they left, that the plastering crew cleaned their tools on soil in which my sego palms grow nearby. I have pictures of how poorly the overall project area was left upon "completion of the project". Cleaned? Terrible! Also, please be aware that if adherence to an agreed-upon schedule is of importance to you, then don't sign the contract. He hires free-lancers and the job schedule can be subject to their availability. BEWARE!! read more

The new owner is bringing in people that do not seem to know how to do their jobs. The tiles were not straight so I tried to tell the workers and they did not seem to understand what I was saying. The material seems cheap and plaster is already flaking off and they refuse to stand behind their work. Once they completed the job and I made the final payment I noticed an issue and tried to contact them and have left several messages with no response. read more

Olys was super easy to deal with and our replastered pool is amazing. During the process I was in constant contact with the owner by text and phone, and also with the guys doing the work. I was initially shocked at the cost to replaster and I shopped for several months. Then I saw how much work goes into a replaster and the army of guys needed to remove and replace the material. We upgraded to have pebbles and color in the plaster. To save money I tried to re tile only the dam wall on the spa. Bobby (the owner) suggested not doing it this way but agreed. The new tile on the spa looked so good we decided to re tile the entire pool. He never said "I told you so." And he didn't charge me a bunch to make the change. The guys are super talented and seem to all be having a great time doing the work. Super positive people. The guy who's the last on the job, Luis, is very concerned about the final product. He came back twice to make sure all was perfect. Great people. I like this company. read more

Worst company ever. Buyer beware. They used to be good, but now the service is poor, the helpers are awful, and the new owner is horrible. The quality of work is bad, and they are over priced! They use cheap labor that cut corners and leave your pool looking like crap. I would never recommend them. The plaster finish was horrible! This place really has gone down hill. Once you pay, you will wait forever to get any calls. If you have any issues, good luck getting in contact with them. I used to deal with Mark and he was awesome. This new guy Bobby Thompson is ridiculous to work with. Waste of time and money! Wish can add less than 1 star, cause they don't deserve that. read more

Oly's Pool and Spa has just finished plastering and tiling my pool. Looks brand new. They were competitive when it came to pricing out my pool remodel. They were friendly, helpful and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't want or need. This was a time sensitive job and was done in more then enough time. The team that removed the old plaster were great. Everyone was courteous and respectful. The salesperson was knowledgeable, professional. i recently had my pool replastered with pebble tec, and a baja step added. i selected Olys pool service because they were able to start work sooner than any other pool company and also they had lower costs associated with the re-do of my pool. this is a job that dragged on for months. i was told that my pool would be completed in about 2 weeks. it was drained on June 21, 2022. the pool was not able to be used until mid to end of August. once my pool was completed it was beautiful and i was very pleased with the results. however soon after the completion of the pool, it became apparent that there was a significant water leak. Bobby (the owner) and Eric (his foreman, apparently) were out repeatedly working on the pool. Bobby was always pleasant, Eric, not so much. my problem is that i was rarely informed of what the progress was, or when anyone would be out, or what was found. phone calls went unanswered, texts were not acknowledged. i would spend a day waiting for someone to show up and work on the leaks, (turned out there were 2) and no one would ever come out. it was an extremely frustrating experience. i am a senior single woman. i don't know if they treat all their clients the way they treated me, but i felt ripped off, disrespected, ignored and in general just "blown off". when the leaks were finally fixed, i wanted to know exactly where the leaks were, i received a text from Bobby on Oct 21, that it was a plumbing leak and also the light was leaking. thats all the info i received, vague and not specific. however at this time, November 11, the leaks appear to be fixed. so that whole process took 4 months. 4 months of waiting, with poor communication, unreturned calls and texts. So if you are looking for a crew to disregard your calls, texts and concerns. then this is the company for you! if you want to wait hours, and days for someone to get back to you. then you will love Olys pools. my suggestion is this: do not make that final payment until you know there are NO problems with the pool. i believe that part of the problem is that the owner, Bobby, lives in Orange County. much of the work is overseen and done by Eric. read more

Our newly pebbled pool looks amazing! We obtained several bids for our pool remodel project. Mark (owner) gave us a fair and transparent bid without all the fluff or sales hype. He's straightforward, knows his trade, is honest, and takes pride in his work. Mark was great with communication throughout the entire process. You can reach him by phone or text readily. We've interacted with a lot of contractors in our various remodel projects over the years. He's one of the few that is on site working and supervising. This makes a big difference in the quality of the work and the end result. We had multiple positive interactions with Mark. He's also personable and pretty funny! I can't stop raving about this company! You get massive value with high quality workmanship. And you won't get nickel and dimed during the process. We first had our pool plastered by Oly's years ago. They were fabulous . We just had them do new plaster coping tile and stackstone. Our backyard looks so beautiful. Oly's pool plastering did an awful job on my replastering and tile job. I paid 6k to get my pool replastered and retiled in 2006 . They broke the water in take pipe and even after I called to complain soon after the job was done they never showed up to repair it.. This is just the start of the problems with their sloppy job, the tile grout is now separating and chipping off, the plaster never looked close to the photos the salesman showed at all. The pool is the gray plaster with the blue specks which I paid more for at the ime and it is entirely splotchy white. I am reviewing this now as I'm in the process of selling my house and many buyers have commented on how terrible the pool looks not believing that it has been redone.. I tell everyone who asks that Olys is the one that did this job so I can guarantee they won't make the same mistake I did. I would have given it zero starts if I could.... I got ripped off.. I would not recommend Oly's under any circumstances. My pool looks just as bad before Oly's re-plastered it. I've had experts out that cannot believe that the pool looks like it's 5 to 10 years old. The owner, Mark Roberts is blaming the start-up guy, who he hired; he's blaming my water, he's blaming the fact that it's my fault because the pool was not grounded properly.......it's everything and everyone's fault but his. I would never recommend Oly's pool service to anyone. We paid almost 8K to have our pool re-plastered and some tile fixed and it looks like we still need our pool re-plastered. Mark said he would come out and get our pool set up after it was done and he barely did anything. The color is not what he showed us and there are white spots all over the entire pool. When I called him and told him my concerns, he said the color would change in 6 months. I waited 6 months and nothing changed. I even paid hundreds of dollars more to use the chemicals he told us would help and it hasn't. I have been calling almost weekly for months now and he has refused to come out and fix the bad job HE did. Don't let him fool you into thinking he is on top of things either. He came out to give us a bid the day we called but then won't come out after I have been calling him for months because he is just too busy! If you want a good job done on your pool, do NOT use Oly's pools!! read more

Outstanding design and work! I was referred to Oly's by Dustin Anderson of Precision Aquatics and was extremely pleased. Our pool was 24 years old and need replastering and we were also interested in some design upgrades to the water feature and diving board. We had bids from three reputable companies but really liked how Mark Roberts came out and immediately impressed with his vision for replastering with mini-pebble and redesigning the water feature into a beautiful waterfall and removing the diving board for a matching "diving rock." The work was scheduled to begin the following month and all the work accomplished quickly and without problems and everyone working on the pool was great (including Mark's wife Cyd who runs the office). I couldn't have asked for a better contractor and the cost was in line with the bids that we received from the other contractors. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to have their pool redone and who would like someone with a creative vision. read more
