Legitimately the worst chocolate croissant I've ever eaten. What a waste of consumed calories!! Whoever made it has zero clue about the flakey-layered dough that's supposed to be a Croissant. I get that it's a Turkish bakery, but CMON!!! U name something a croissant - make a croissant. Instead Ive gotten something like a baked doughnut - dough so dense, I might as well be eating my grandmas piroshki... Nothing wrong with doughnuts or piroshkis, if you are into it, just entirely not something I expected to receive after ordering a croissant! One star for latte, which is average good, nothing to write home about. Another star for friendly staff. That's about it. PS: other pastries in the display didnt look impressive at all either. I first came here about a year ago when I was getting keys copied on Castro Street and wanted a cup of coffee. Got my regular -- an iced black coffee -- and it was super super bitter, like it was burnt. Super gross. Came back again a couple months ago because I wanted to grab breakfast before catching Caltrain to SF, and it was one of the only quick places that was open. Opted for just a chocolate croissant and forwent the coffee and the croissant was AMAZING! Super flaky, not too sweet. Loved it. I came back again recently because I was craving a chocolate croissant, and decided to try the egg scrambles they offer. I got the scramble to go and about 15 minutes after I got the order, the bottom of the take out box was soaked through. In addition to being soggy, the eggs were also pretty bland, as were the hash browns that came with them. Definitely not worth the $12, in my opinion. Feeling pretty conflicted because I want to give 5 stars for the croissant, but 1 for the coffee and eggs. So I settled on 3 stars. I'll probably come back just for the croissants, but I'm wary of trying the other things on the menu. read more

Major love to this place. We went in as a really large group for breakfast and they were amazingly competent and patient with us. I ordered the single shot cafe latte and strawberry waffle. There are a bunch of add-ons available for each item but I stuck to the basics. And it was yummy. Everything that was served on our table looked nice and yummy. This place is my go-to Summertime post-Farmer's Market brunch spot! Located conveniently at the end of Castro nearest to the Caltrain station, it's a wonderful outdoorsy (but indoors if you're cold) spot for delicious breakfast and lunch options! The outdoor patio area has ample shade and the wait staff is constantly adjusting umbrellas to provide maximum comfort for the diners. Go-to breakfast options are the Turkish and Greek breakfasts -- both very light and varied and is reminiscent of eating fancy lunchables (I kind of love to play with my food). The Turkish and Greek breakfasts have some bread with honey, some proteins, vegetables, and yogurt. I really don't know what they eat for breakfast in Turkey or Greece, but the Mediterranean meal is known for being nutritious and clean at the same time and I do attribute those features to these breakfasts! read more

I was excited to finally be able to dine-in after 3 months. I knew this place had ample outdoor seating so I knew it shouldn't be a problem to get a table. I felt pretty safe with the set up. You order inside and they bring the food out to your table. I did notice there were tables with leftover plates but I can tell the wait staff was doing the best they could with the situation. The food came out in 10-15 minutes and came in ample portions. I got the shakshuka breakfast. It was tasty but kind of pricey for what it was. The desserts were yummy. The restaurant merged with a German restaurant/brewery recently.  It is an interesting combo.  I think the transition/addition as been a little rocky. For example, price increases that are not reflected on the electronic menu until you have to pay.  Overall there is a huge potential for this type of fusion.  We have Turkish friends who have immigrated to Germany.  Yet how many Turkish/German fusion restaurants exist in the Bay Area? read more

I came here once on Mountain Views first annual wine and food walk. We got a sample of some spinach and cheese pastry thing. It was good! Came here as a real customer for the first time this past weekend for brunch. The line was fairly long (not as bad as Crepevines down the street). Ordering took probably a good 10-15min but the food came out incredibly fast. Like we sat down and 3 minutes later we were eating. I shared a florentine scramble with my mom because neither of us needed a huge meal and it was perfect to split. Plenty of eggs and hash town plus a piece up yummy buttered toast. It was a very enjoyable meal. My sister and mom got a chai tea latte that they stated as the best they've had. I'm not usually a fan of chair tea but I did agree it was very good. And so foamy on the top! There is also a handsome Greek (I assume) man that waits the tables! A little eye candy never hurts a meal. read more

This is a nice little bakery in Mountain View. Suggested this place to a friend for brunch after looking up Yelp reviews for brunch places on Castro St. We'd already tried Crepevine, probably too much. I had the veggie omelette with hash browns, turkish coffee, and burmali baklava. There was really nothing special about the omelette (it wasn't anything to criticize though). The baklava was extremely authentic and probably what was worth coming here, and what will be the reason to come back in the future. The turkish coffee, for people who don't know, is extremely strong. It was good coffee, but I am not usually an avid drinker, so don't get this if you aren't a fan of strong coffee. Also, most of the desserts look very good and I definitely want to come back to try them. read more

We really enjoyed this place. Perusing the breakfast menu, we stupidly looked for egg dishes that had ham or bacon. We clued in pretty quick. Thank god none of us asked about it! All the food was great. We bought some boxes of Turkish delight. But best of all, they let dogs into the patio seating area!! Awful. Rude unhelpful staff. I ordered a chicken pita no tomatoes. It took over 15 minutes to be ready. It had tomatoes on it. The pita was not warmed it was cold which was off putting. The chicken was bland and the salad mix the put in the pita wrap was dripping wet so the pita was leaking all over the place. I also ordered a slice of chocolate chip cheesecake. It looked delicious but even that was a disappointment. It had been sitting on the display case so the edges were hardened from the air. It tasted like whatever refrigerator it was stored apparently unwrapped in. But....Most importantly of all they closed the bathroom at the peak of lunch time for a deep cleaning. I watched over 8 people attempt to use the restroom in the 15 minutes I was waiting for my sad lunch. Never going to eat here again. With all the nearby options luckily nobody has to. read more

I am right now having a late lunch at this Greek Cafe and Bakery in Downtown Mountain View. I have been here once before and had wonderful service. So not the case on this visit, which would be #2. I ordered the Gyro Plate. Nothing wrong with the Gyro or that it comes in a pita and not a wrap. The trouble lies with no white sauce. How can I eat a gyro without any sauce? It is just not possible. It is like a crime has been committed. Another problem lies with one particular employee who has a hearing problem. I understand that you are standing in front of the freezer, but you don't need me to repeat the same question multiple times. Once it was trying to order the gyro. The second time was asking for the white sauce. I wish I could give this place four stars. Can't do it. I might go to the other restaurant at the end of the block next time. P.S. Just found out that the other Greek place at the end of the block is about 50 cents cheaper than this place. Wow! And they are a full service restaurant too. read more

Had some appetizers and soup here last night. The hummus and pita appetizer was good. The falafel appetizer was overly crunchy and too dry, as if it had been fried too long. The lentil soup was watery and didn't include any pieces of whole lentil. I'd order the hummus again, but not the others. The outdoor seating and free wifi are big draws. It's a great place to stop for a drink or snack if you're waiting for the next train or meeting up with a friend. After the sun went down it got a little cool. I asked if they could fire up one of the outdoor heaters and one of the staff members said, "They're just for decoration." That felt like false advertising! Tip #1: Avoid the water. Their self-serve water tested at 188, with 50 and lower being safer to drink. It's probably tap water with some ice. Tip #2: Good place to stop for a quick snack in Mountain View if you want to keep an eye on your bike while you eat. Tip #3: Great place to meet up with a friend or catch up on some work. They have reliable wifi. Tip #4: Super location to have a snack if you're waiting for the next train. read more

Can't say there was anything outstanding to me. It was my first time trying Baklava and it was pretty good, but extremely wet. It was dripping all over my face and hands. My friend who has tried Baklava said she hasn't had it that wet, and also my boyfriend said his dad's was pretty dry. I was celebrating my birthday with my husband and wanted to end the night with a nice pastry. (I had purposely skipped the restaurants' dessert bc I really wanted to try something from this place since their pastries looked really good). I noticed that their website said they'd close at 10pm and we walked in before 9:30. When we ordered, we were NOT told they would close early. We ordered a slice of cheesecake and a beer. We weren't there for even 10 min and we were already getting kicked out! Umm WHAT??? Your website AND YOUR DOOR literally says 10pm close! But at 9:32 a worker stacking up chairs said "excuse me, we are closing now". I can understand if they no longer want people walking IN but for the people that are already inside should be able to enjoy their meal until AT LEAST 10 minutes before closing. If anything, The cashier should have told us that they were going to close early. I'm not sure why they kicked us out so early especially when we literally just had like three bites left from the cheesecake and less than half the beer! Very unprofessional service. The cheesecake wasn't even anything special so I definitely don't recommend this place. read more

Great little place for a quick bite. Have been here twice and haven't been disappointed with their food or service. You order at the counter and then they bring it to you. I love their chicken souvlaki plate and their tzatziki sauce is to die for. I have tried a few different pasties and they are so fresh and a great treat after your meal. This is a review for their rice pudding and creme brulee cheesecake: hands down the best desserts I've had in the USA in a long, long time (and I'm a baked goods fiend). The rice pudding brought back childhood memories of eastern Europe and the creme brulee cheesecake is in the same old world spirit: gently flavorful without trying to be too smart, light and foamy texture rather than the usual American dense brick, and no huge dose of sugar attempting to hide junk ingredients and processing. Both desserts were shockingly wonderful and I would recommend to anyone - if you have European or Middle Eastern tastes you will appreciate this unassuming bakery even more. I've been despairing at finding a bakery to feed my nostalgia ever since Mari Vanna closed in Los Angeles. (A Russian grandmother used to make the best legit custard layered pastry cake from scratch there.) This small place in Mountain View has filled a hole in my heart. I will be back often to enjoy what is essentially joy in a pudding bowl here. read more
