Have been by this diner many times and doesn't look very inviting from the outside, so haven't bothered. Checked it out for breakfast, and it's much more inviting inside, cozy & quaint. Love the train car main section. Had pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausage, all were very good. Waitstaff was lively and boisterous, and felt like friends when we left. Check it out. read more

Recently started going here for breakfast. Slow? Yes. Food? Phenomenal - I love the kielbasa egg and cheese (hard to find around here) very filling good amount of meat on the sandwich. Allergy to onions but wanted homefries... no problem, they made them fresh for me, great flavor (even ate them cold as I was working and couldn't eat all at once) read more

I am absolutely amazed at how caring the current owners of this diner are! My dad has been going here since the early 1980s. He now has dementia. Someone from his group of friends picks him up so he can join everyone at 6am. Lately, my dad has had trouble with losing his credit card or forgetting he has it. One of the owners called me to offer an arrangement for paying his tab. I am blown away by their willingness to make sure he can continue to enjoy the best part of his day. In this day and age, it's refreshing that the young owners of a local business actually care about people! Oh, and he loves their food, too! read more

This is one of the closest diners to my mothers workplace, so it's one of our few options to eat at on her lunch break. Multiple times shes been late to work because they can't make an order within an hour. Today was particularly bad. We walked in, sat down, and didnt have our order taken for 20 minutes, as people who sat down after us were attended to. While waiting for our food, our waitress was playing with the owners toddlers BEHIND THE COUNTER, which not only is dangerous, the owner was here watching this happen. By time we got our food, most of our orders were wrong. By the way, we only ordered basic club sandwiches, nothing complex. We were absolutely pissed off after waiting 45 minutes for two sandwiches, one of which had hair iThe fact that the manager was here, allowing the waitresses to babysit her children while customers were unattended to proves that this is a management problem that will continue to happen until this place evidently closes. *Edit*: My grandmother and sister went here a few months after I wrote this, and had another horrid experience. My sister was playing on her phone while waiting for service, and the waiter came up to the table, threw sugar packets at her, and told her to "get of your phone." The pure audacity behind that is beyond me. They left right away after that; imagine having something physically thrown at you at a restaurant. Incomprehensible, and truly disgusting. read more

Stopped in on Sunday to get a quick bite on the way back home from a trip to LI. I ordered what was supposed to be a gyro. The meat (I think) was cut into tiny little pieces about 3cm square. Looked like burnt scraps that were leftover and giving to me to finish out the day. I asked the waitress if this was supposed to be the gyro. she said yes sometimes to make it cook faster he cuts it up really small. We also never was asked how our food was or had our ice tea refilled when we finished them halfway through the meal. I would skip this place and go down to the next exit if you want a quick bite. read more

Everyone needs a local diner like this! We stopped for lunch on our drive to Boston because a diner seemed like a better option than standard fast food. We were very impressed and a bit surprised at the quality of the food and the friendly staff. It was like stepping back in time where people extended kindness to strangers, fed them a good meal, and wished them well. We decided to return for breakfast in the drive back and the morning local crowd was there adding a feeling of comfort and familiarity. Wish I could pick this place up and take it with me to NYC! Family owned and operated too! Bravo! read more

We were 5 people eating and got a nice experience in this very authentic diner with a very cozy atmosphere and excellent service. I got a renewed love to pastrami after having the signature sandwich, pastrami rueben... and this can only be recommended for future customers. Furthermore the waitress was so sweet which just topped the whole dining experience. Enjoy! read more

Glacial service. Dirty. Chatty and entirely ineffective waitresses. The food? Not worth it. Run away.

We went to this place on a whim after visiting the mall nearby. Wasn't our first choice but we decided to give this place a try. The place is run down, hole in a wall place that can use a little facelift from the outside and tight little kitchen/ dining area inside. We were greeted at the door by our waitress and got us seated. The wait time is about 20 mins for our food. Coffee is watered down, food is decent. I ordered Polish Benedict with home fries. Egg was a little overdone (not the typical runny yolk of Benedicts) but tasty. Would I recommend this place? Sure, only after you ran out of place to go to. :-/ read more

Olympos Diner - Diners Near Me - Meriden, Connecticut

One word to describe this place .... Ratchet. While the male wait staff was nice and courteous, the waitress I had was gross. Killing flies with the diner menu in front of customers . Telling personal stories about urinating and what color is was that day out loud while I was eating was disgusting !! The food was OK at best . I'm afraid to see how they even prepare it . It's more like a trailer park hang out than a diner . read more

This place is solid, delicious and clean. Had a delicious California benedict - the avocado was fresh the eggs cooked perfectly and the price was right. Perfect spot to get some food before taking on the day! read more

So we stopped in here because the kids were starting to get antsy after being stuck in a car for 8 hours and it was lunch time. As soon as we walked in, it was like being treated like family. The atmosphere was amazing and very homey. The staff was outstanding and the food was freshly made, nice and hot. We will definitely stop back through here on our road trip back home! read more

I love Olympos diner. Even with everything going on right now, they still welcomed us with open arms when we walked in this morning. The waitstaff is always friendly and they make sure you're well taken care of. I love their food, the disco fries are to die for. read more

Terrible, worst breakfast ever. Skip it. Eggs undercooked. Waitress dropped toast on floor. Coffee bleach. Taste like bleach water. Even the dog thought twice on her leftovers. read more

Super friendly, super tasty, right off the highway, so it's super convenient for passers through. Food is well prepared. Fried dishes are crisp and light not greasy. Definitely go for the Gyro Burger! read more

Great diner food. Love the older lady that works the place. She alone makes it a worthy place to go. The prices are fair and the food is good. read more

This place is absolutely horrible. My friend ordered the buffalo chicken wrap...in one word...disgusting. The chicken wasn't fully cooked, the lettuce was rotten, and the sauce was tasteless. I ordered the Monte Cristo. The turkey smelled bad and was extremely dry. Neither of us took more than one bite of our food. Oh...and my friend also ordered "Clam Chowder". It was a watery, bland soup. Would not EVER go here or recommend to my worst enemy. read more

Friendly and prompt waitress. Food came out hot and was delicious. Had a wrap and fries. Very relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

This place is the basics. It's not fancy, its not elegant. It's a diner. It DOES have friendly staff. It DOES have good diner food. It's the only place I know where I can get chicken croquettes and mashed potatoes. Real Mashed even. Good gravy. Their menu is basic. Breakfast all day. Open faced this and that. Burger clubs and such. Their dessert is hit or miss. Depends on the day. But overall the price is good and the food is good. I like the old time feel. And, I keep coming back! read more

Traditional diner setting and menu. Good food, great service, very affordable, great value!

I love this place. Food is great, the staff couldn't be friendlier and you won't find better eggs Benedict. I'd give it more stars if I could. Best diner in Meriden. 10/10 would recommend to anyone. read more

This place is exactly what you would expect of a local diner dive. I live for places like this and have been dining here ever since I moved to Meriden 12 years ago. The help behind the counter is always entertaining. Donna is the best waitress and knows what I want before I even order. I mostly have been here for breakfast, however I've also had other meals here too. There are plenty of local places to eat around Meriden, and for the price and the diner experience, the Olympos is a place you would want to visit. If you are looking for a place thats extra clean and brand new, this isn't it, but then again try finding a place in Meriden that is brand new inside. read more

Got the California omlette to go, they tossed in jalapenos upon request also this place serves kiwis with their fruit side! Would come back again!. read more

If I could give more than 5 stars I would! I had the best pea soup I ever had. After commenting that to Ryan (the best server ever) he informed me that all soups are homemade along with the food. My tuna salad was so good & yes homemade. He told us about the chicken noodle soup, then brought me a complementary cup to try!! This is the best kept secret! Well, maybe not for long!! read more

Traveling from out of town and free breakfast at hotel did not look inviting. Happened on this local favorite- food and service was great. Very good prices. read more

The middle aged waitress was phenomenal however the two younger girls had NO idea what they were doing. We had to consistently remind them that we needed water and coffee among other things. We spent about an hour at this diner because it was very busy but that isn't anyone's fault. Younger girls definitely need more training and experience. read more

When a diner is your need, this fills the bill! Friendly, fast service from a staff who remembers their locals and treats them like friends, but also is welcoming to the outsiders. My Greek omelette was superb...the feta chunks were strategically placed to give yum in every bite. Coffee delicious and constantly regilled with a smile. Only pitfall for me was I usually don't eat much grease, and while theirs was certainly light compared to most New England diner standards, it will surprise people who might not be used to a lot of butter or oil used in their cooking. I would get my toast without butter next time. Can't wait to try something else here! read more

Friendly and delicious diner food, no complaints here, a perfect cute little stop on your way through town.

Amazing diner! The food was incredible, all very fresh and home made. The environment was spotless, and the service was fast and friendly. I wish I lived closer!! read more

Best breakfast, great service, awesome old time diner!

Really great food with great fast service e with a smile. We started with the crab cakes. Homemade and flavor fall and more crab then bread crumbs. I had the chicken salad Club. Probably some of the best chicken salad I've ever had. Homemade, they boil it to make the soup. The other entree was chicken parmesan. I was skeptical about ordering this in a diner. Homemade chicken cutlets in a very flavorful tomato sauce. If you love chicken salad this place will spoil you and it will never be the same any place else. Try it. read more

Great family-owned. Delicious and great price. Friendly and curteous wait-staff. Go for it!

The food was authentic and great and the atmosphere fun. We ordered the Greek salads with grilled chicken and a gyro to share. Abundant servings. Would recommend to anyone wanting fresh, healthy food. read more

This is a pretty standard diner with good food, nothing fancy. Service was quick. Parking ample. Close to highway. The guy with tattoos that waited on our table was cool. read more

Stopped here looking for a quick lunch on our way to VT. I was skeptical based on the exterior but gave it a try anyway. Its a dated greek diner (32 years in business ) with a comfortable lunch counter and several booths. The waitstaff were pleasant, friendly and accommodating. I had a delicious pastrami rubin, it was lean, tender and perfectly toasted on the grill. Their house made coleslaw was a tangy mayo and vinegar style that complemented the rubin nicely. My son had the gyro burger. He said "best burger I've ever had", and hes had a lot of burgers. Hes is a bit of a burger snob! The burger was a hand formed patty of ground gyro meat mixed with feta and served on a fresh soft kaiser roll. Wife had a grilled cheese with bacon and a side of house made corned beef hash. A it light on the bacon but a yrue "grilled" cheese. I tasted the hash and can say it was tasty. Finished lunch with "Toms" house made rice pudding, creamy, tender and served with just enough whipped cream and cinnamon. Most if not all of the desserts looked homemade. Its obvious they care about the food they put out at Olympos diner and their customers. You don't stay in business 30+ years not caring. We may never happen by this place again but if we do we will stop in. Five stars for being a great local diner! read more

Friendly staff. Clean. Good food. Good service. Convenient: just off route 91 and next to 2 gas stations.

My car broke down in Meriden and walked in and ate while waiting for a ride home. I loved the atmosphere the food was great and service exceptional. I had the gyro platter. I will return I felt at home and can't wait to go back. In this area friendly great service is not common. read more

I went on a Thursday afternoon with my mother. There weren't many people there so we were taken care of relatively quickly throughout the meal. I agree with what the other reviewer said about the majority of patrons being locals. The waitress seemed quite nice as well. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger lunch special, which came with fries and soup (I chose the soup of the day- chicken rice soup). My mother ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and corn. We also received bread after ordering, which you don't often get at a diner (a nice touch). My mother said to me that she liked her food and told the waitress that it was excellent, so I assume it was at least pretty good. The burger was pretty good, the fries and soup were also nice. The food came out VERY quickly, which was quite nice, but as I said it was not at all crowded. I'll have to try their breakfast sometime in the future, as they have breakfast specials along with lunch ones. The diner does seem a bit older, but I didn't mind at all. As the other reviewer said, that didn't matter as long as the food is good. I would go again in the future if given the chance. read more

Their chipotle chicken salad is amazing! Burgers too! Breakfast yum! There like the only restaurant that knows how to serve bacon crispy! If I could give this place 10 stars I would. I've been going here for about a yr now and the staff is so so friendly! Very outgoing! I look at it this way if the place is packed then that means good food! And if it's packed it may take longer like duh! would u rather have crappy thrown together uncooked food put on ur plate? eww wiggly bacon or would u like to wait a few extra minutes for yummy delicious awesomeness put on ur plate? If ur in a hurry then go to a FAST food restaurant so u can get ur fake food fast... read more

Having grown up in Meriden, I am familiar with the local spots. I drive by this Diner all the time, and had yet to stop in for food. On our first visit, my GF and I stopped in for a quick bite to eat in the afternoon. The place is small, the waitresses appeared to know all the regulars (most seemed to be in their 70s+) and the prices were in line. We ordered, ate and it was nothing special. It was on our second and last trip that we had a terrible experience. My GF has food issues, and needs to make sure she gets things how she orders them. Having worked in the restaurant business, she feels terrible being "such a pain", as she calls it. During our visit, my GF ordered an egg white omlet, as they had this listed on their menu. Our food arrived and it did not appear to be egg whites. It was dark yellow in color, dripping with butter, and not what she expected. In seeing the look on her face the waitress came over to ask what the matter was. My GF indicated she wanted an egg white omlet and this appeared to be regular. The waitress insisted it was egg whites, but just an off color. My GF reluctantly decided she would try and eat them, and the waitress left. After picking at them for another minute or so, the second waitress came over and asked about the omlet. At first we assumed she was going to try and correct it, but she spent the time telling us she can get the egg shells and egg yolks out of the garbage to prove it. In the end my GF decided to just eat what she could. At that moment the waitress went into the other "room", by room I mean section as this is a very small building. There are no doors blocking the areas off and we could hear the waitresses "discussing" our situation. They spent a few minutes laughing and making fun of us, what they though was behind our back. After sitting there long enough my GF confronted the ladies, who had every lie to tell us they weren't "making fun" of her. My GF ended up crying and leaving, and I decided to take my food to go and pay. After my GF left, the waitress then tried to comment about her over reacting to the situation. extremely uncalled for, but probably to be expected. I'm a very easy going person, and even in this situation chose to stay calm and try and make things right. The truth was, what the waitresses did was uncalled for and unprofessional. In the end it's simply a place we won't ever go to again, and a story to tell around the water cooler. Not that people read these reviews prior to going to a hole in the wall type place, but if they do, be advised they may not be so nice to you, once your in and eating. read more
