I drive through between Burien and Enumclaw and have been at Olson's a few times. Each time I've enjoyed stopping over and have bought the sausage mix with cheese which is great to snack on during the trip back to Burien. This last time we bought a chuck roast and the experience is great and I really appreciate chatting it up with the staff. I just came home and split up a 5lb. roast into two 2.5lb. roasts. Definitely recommend dropping by Olson's and either buy some steaks, roast or just the sausage mix for the road. read more

AMAZING. We saw this place on a long drive and whipped around backwards to stop after seeing the sign for smoked salmon. We obviously got that smoked salmon and the spicy meat mix and both were amazing. We want to order the jerky and salmon to NC and Arizona (home to us) and that may have been the best smoked salmon any of us had ever had! 2nd time I had Olsen's butcher a cow that my friend and I brought. 2nd time I am dissatisfied! First time I was shorted on filet mignon and I called and they gave me some 2 steaks which was ok but I was also shorted on ribeye steaks it looked like they were all small end cuts. I buy ribeye strips all the time and I get 10-12 steaks cut 1-1/2". I recived 10 steaks cut 3/4" when I asked for 1-1/2" and all the steaks are very small like the size of my hand and the cow was not a small cow. I called and was told they would get back to me it's been 7 days no call this is why I am leaving a review. I will not use Olsen's ever again and I will let all my friends what happened. If I had a dollar for every time I've been to Enumclaw, I'd probably have about $5. It just hasn't felt like a place that embraces diversity and since I celebrate all people, I have chosen to limit my time there. Today, I knew I would be driving through, so I decided to check this place out. I'd looked at the website and felt confident I would find at least one item to sample and take with me. I was greeted by a young woman who was very friendly. She pointed out the selection and asked if I was looking for anything in particular. I told her I was interested in Hot Links; she asked if I wanted fresh or smoked. I advised Smoked and when she checked, they were sold out. At that point, I decided to settle for fresh and when we looked there, again they were sold out. I don't know if the links are that good, or if they just aren't gifted at managing their inventory. It's Friday and I'd like to believe you want everything stocked going into a weekend. At that point, I asked about Jerky, she handed me a pack, but I passed. It had brown sugar, which the cheap grocery store jerky's have. Meat is savory, not sweet, if you want sweet jerky, then add it to teriyaki, but plain jerky should have very little if any sugar in my opinion. I would have considered this a bust, but I was headed up the road to Blue Max anyway and they have the best jerky in the region in my opinion, unfortunately their hot link is more of a spicy hot dog than traditional Louisiana Red. read more

I don't normally leave reviews but these people are so good at what they do that l had to commend them. I have bought most of my meat in bulk for years at the same place in Kent and noticed that the meat quality and processing (butchering and wrapping) had gone down hill the last three sides l bought, so I purchased a side of beef from Olson's instead. WOW! What a difference! The beef was expertly butcher and wrapped and was tender and delicious. There smoked meats and jerky are some of the best I've ever tasted and the marinated tri-tip is also fantastic. I have since purchased another side of beef and pork from them. I knew after that first bite of steak from that first side of beef, I wasn't going to get my meat any where else but Olson's. I would give them Ten Stars if I could. I highly recommend them for the tastiest tender meat anywhere! Give them a try, you won't be sorry, the tri-tip is a good place to start. Also the folks behind the meat display are both friendly and knowledgeable which is rare these days! My only regret is that I didn't give Olson's a try sooner! This is the second time we have used Olson's. The first time, in 2022, the experience was amazing. This time, we took two heritage Mangalitsa pigs (not cheap) to them. They didn't save any of the lard we asked them too, which is one the main things to keep for these pigs because of the benefits of having this type of lard. The female we spoke to never gave us a price per pound to be processed, had an attitude every time we called to find out when we could pick up our meat, and after it was dropped off we had to call a few times to get the order in of how we wanted the meat to be separated and cut, but never a price per pound for processing. Not getting our lard back is a huge loss for us and it's not the same as regular pig lard. read more

So, I'm driving out from Seattle to stay with some friends in Enumclaw. I drive right by this little "barn-like" smokehouse. It was dusk and they were closed at the time, but I did make a mental note of it. A few days later, the weather turned sunny (yeah, I couldn't believe it either) and we decided to grill on the porch and enjoy some wine. I remembered Olson's and we all drove out to check out their meat selection. It was the end of the day, so we weren't sure what we were in for, but it all turned out great. No red carpet here - just along the side of the road, in a dirt parking lot with open fields on either side of the building. The building had that Green Acres sort of feel, with a little age on the outside. Open the door and you'll find a 12-foot meat case filled with a ton of goodies. The case can be a little disorganized because they might only have 3-4 pieces of a particular cut. You're not going to see 15 rib-eyes all lined up pretty in a row, but look around and you might find some surprises. What they lack in presentation they make up for in quality. There were four of us in the store and another four at home, so we had some decisions to make for the entire party. We chose wisely and ended up with a variety of steaks including rib-eyes, T-bones, a porterhouse, and some sausages. All of the goods appeared to be freshly cut and trimmed. The prices are just a tad higher than what you might find in your local grocery store however I can tell you for a fact that you are getting a higher quality of meat at Olson's. If you are worried about price, they always seem to have some deal going on, so just ask. We got back and we grilled up the steaks with just a little seasoning, knowing we really wanted to taste the grass in this hormone-free beef! And it did not disappoint one bit! Just the right amount of fat left on all of the steaks to give them the perfect taste. We opened some red wine and really enjoyed the evening! I can't wait to come back up again and again! read more

The parking lot was full, but retail space was empty. There were several kinds of jerky and 2 pieces of smoked cheddar, but no fresh meat. Walking in without a pre-order means everything will be frozen. (1 point deduction) The BBQ w/ Rotisserie was being loaded up in the driveway for a Luau complete with full pig. They do not quote a price on the literature, but it is big enough to handle much more than 1 pig! They offer a variety of rubs and BBQ sauce and many have all natural ingredients. The package offerings range from a 20lb steak and roast assortment all the way up to a whole side of grain fed beef. The staff did not know the prices quoted on the anniversary sale flyer. We asked for the 10 lb bag of boneless skinless chicken breasts. The employee placed the bag on the scale, it came to 9.97 pounds, and rang up for $37. I asked what the difference was between these breasts and the $22.90 breasts listed on the flyer. After a trip to the manager's office she came back and gave us the lower price and admitted that no one else had corrected her. (1 point deduction) When we got to the car I realized the breasts were individually wrapped in butcher paper. There are 13 breasts in the bag... that's a whole sheaf of paper added into that 10 pound weight! (1 point deduction) read more

I say this with no embellishment - this is possibly the best butcher in the entire Pacific Northwest. Minimum top 3. The flavors retained in even the most ordinary cuts are shocking in breadth. Prices here meet or exceed the standard grocery faire (and if it meets, why get a lesser quality meat?). Staff is extremely servant minded and knowledgeable about everything. I also appreciate the fact that olsons doesn't try to do everything like some butchers do, allowing them to do exceptional work on the meats they offer. But don't get me wrong, they offer quite a bit. I wish everyone had an olsons meats. Honestly, if not for Olsons I would probably be a pescatarian. Theirs not too many businesses in any genre of life that operate at the level Olsons does. A rare establishment. Gordon Ramsay would be proud. read more

This old fashion butcher shop has fresh local grass fed at a reasonable price. Service is outstanding. Everyone in the shop has a smile and a hello when you walk in. They custom cut and wrapped my order of 1.5lb flat iron steak and ground the 5lbs of grass fed beef while I waited. The shop is full of specialty sauces and rubs to set you up for a great BBQ night. My bias: Every Sunday for the past 2 years, I got meat at Meat The Live Butcher in West Seattle. When we moved to Kent two months ago, I was eager to make a connection with the local butcher, and expecting that level of service, product, etc. I do appreciate that Olson's does their own butchering in the back, although we don't raise farm animals so I'll likely never take advantage of that service. And they offer some local beef and chicken (at least, the gal said it was local), fresh. However, almost everything was frozen, and not clearly advertised, so I repeatedly had to ask what they had available for purchase. There's quite a selection (presumably) if you ask the right questions....but it makes it difficult to peruse what they have and plan a meal from there. The pricing is very confusing (they advertise bundles of basically half a cow or pig much more than, say, getting a pound of roast), which made it difficult for me to determine what kind of quality we were getting. The bacon was disappointing (thus far, no one can compare to Meat in West Seattle in terms of bacon) but not as bad as store-bought (or Lind's). I didn't have any issues with bones in our ground beef, nor with the quality of the meat we purchased. When I was finally able to make a price comparison, Olson's was more expensive than our previous butcher, but not exorbitantly so. I'd definitely support them over a grocery store chain, but we're still searching for a better option. read more

Bought about $70 worth of meat and everything was delicious. We bought smoked salmon, havarti cheese, kalbi short ribs, pork chops, garlic sausage and a sweeter breakfast sausage I can't remember the name. They let us sample one of their smoked sausages that was also very tasty. Small little shop but a bunch of customers. There were nice and even let me pick out from a bunch of smoked salmon packages. The one thing I want to definitely buy again are the pork chops, just warm them up on the grill and perfectly tender and full of flavor. read more

I was buying a half a beef from a local family for years, picking it up at Olson's. Unfortunately the family moved out of the area. I tried the grass fed beef pack from Olson's but the ground beef is disappointing. First off, it looks exactly like the packaging for the regular beef pack and makes me think it's all the same product. When cooking it, the pan is pretty full of grease, something you never find when it's truly grass fed. I wouldn't recommend spending the extra money for the grass fed product (just purchase the regular product). If you really want something leaner, and stronger tasting... find a family who raises beef, or go with bison. read more

We love Olson's! We get our turkey and ham here every Thanksgiving and Christmas and the whole family raves about the flavor, juiciness, and freshness! We also love the pork on a stick, luau pork wrapped in the banana leaf, prime rib roast, crab legs and ground beef. And their steaks! I phoned Olson's to see if they had a some cuts of meat we are using for Christmas dinner. The lady (daughter of the owner) was very patient and helpful in answering my questions about these hard to find and unfamiliar cuts we were looking for. A couple times she referred to her father to clarify information about my questions. I could hear him calmly asnwering her questions. This was a great customer service experience.
