Very clean environment upon arrival, friendly staff even though we walked in 10 minutes to close. They still explained stuff to us and gave us some advice. This is my favorite butcher, they offer a large selection of meats and sausages. I'm a huge fan of smoked sausage and it's hard to find that in most butchers that I've been to, so I keep coming back. One of my favorite is the cranberry sausage, it's very limited, typically can only find it during the Thanksgiving holiday, but YUMMY. I have been going to Blue Max on Canyon Rd. since 1994. They drew me in on their Ribeye Steaks and I have been going back ever since. I was a little hesitant when the new ownership took over, but these guys have the same love for the business as the ole' guy did back in the day. They have expanded, of course, and the prices have gone up over 30yrs, but that is where we get all of our meat from. FYI, Ribeye's Garlic Herb Chicken Breast's are the best around! read more

After a flawless experience in Buckley, I decided to make a trip back to Puyallup as the Buckley clerk advised it was their main store. I could be wrong, but this store didn't feel as large and no one I encountered was friendly. I asked for a sample as there were a couple smoked items, I didn't try in Buckley that I regretted not tasting. The person said, "We can't do samples" and gave me that look of "Buy something or leave". Since I didn't want to pay for something I didn't like, I asked for 2 pieces each of two jerky's. So, for those of you without college degrees, that's 4 pieces total. What he gave me was a bag with 10 pieces and as you can imagine, of the jerky's I didn't even care for, hence me only asking for two pieces. So to recap, no sample, rude, didn't listen and sold me far more than I asked for. This experience completely negated my positive experience from earlier in the week, so much so, I probably wouldn't make an isolated trip to Buckley, maybe it's possible the person that helped me there was breaking the rules offering me samples and being polite, because in Puyallup, the attitude was funky, and the service was regrettable. read more

We have purchased our meats from Blue Max for years! You will not find better quality meats anywhere! There hamburger is only ground twice which makes delicious beef for many recipes. Their bacon and sausage are the best! I refuse to consider buying our meat anywhere else! read more

Blue Max Meats is my GO-TO location for jerky and pepperoni sticks. I cannot say I've purchased their other fresh meats because pricing is kind of expensive if you do that often but boy does it look good. This location will seriously have no less than 10 shoppers in it every single time I go which speaks volumes. I'd say on the level of Stewart's Meats in terms of customer base (Stewart's is a little too far for me but also great). I've gone to at least 3 other butcher shops in the greater Seattle area and unfortunately none compare to Blue Max Meats in several categories; SIZE: this place is quite large for a meat shop. An entire L shaped design of windows with meat each about 15-20ft long, along with an island in the middle of the store filled with rubs, more meats, pickled vegetables, and much more! It's seriously the largest one if been in. VARIETY: okay they pretty much have it all. Giant bones (for your dog I think), tons of meat, tons of jerky flavors (like 8+), tons of pepperoni flavors, tons of spices, drinks, canned goods, EVERYTHING. QUALITY: they have my favorite jerky and pepperoni sticks hands down. Peppered jerky is always a must for me and then I usually select something different but you cannot go wrong with their PIONEER jerky! Just get 2 pieces and try it, it's thicker than their normal jerky but the right consistency of dry and juicy and Smokey at the same time. I love it! Not to mention they have the best "trail mix" I've seen at any shop. Either original or spicy and comes with plenty of cheese cubes. I took 2 friends here on different occasions and one from the LA area and he won't stop talking about how amazing the trail mix was. He took some home with him on the plane and snacked on it days later. Have I just become a Blue Max fanboy? Probably but I'll also make the drive out here from downtown Kent just to get some good jerky. 10/10 worth the drive. read more

I've been coming to Blue Max Meats intermittently now for the past couple of years. I discovered them a few years back when my brothers and I were looking for a unique Father's Day gift for the dad who never wants anything. Lol. Dad does like it when family gets together so we thought getting him a gift certificate for $300 would cover any meat for family get together he wanted, but he could also get some steaks, jerky pepperoni sticks or whatever else looked good for him and his wife. The gift certificate worked for my dad and I was impressed by the look of the store, the customer service, and product options. I'd been in and out for myself occasionally over the years. Always had great service. My most recent trip back was my first since they moved the shop to the other end of the building. I'd tried to go before and they'd been closed. Anyway, went back in a couple of days before Valentines Day. Was really struggling with what to get my man and decided to go with a bunch of different meat options, because he's that guy. I bought two of almost every pepperoni stick, opting out of the chicken, because he doesn't care for that. I also threw in 1.5 pounds of the trail mix (meat, cheese) -1 pound spice, 1/2 pound regular. I checked out the refrigerator section and grabbed some smoked salmon and smoked mozzarella. My goal was for my man to have lots of snack options for both at home and at work. Let me tell you, a huge part of me was unsure if this was a good gift. I questioned it, but doubled down anyway. The guy helping me told me this was a great gift and this is the kind of gift he would like to receive, which built a little more confidence in me. He told me how he had actually just had some of the smoked mozzarella the night before -he planned on having it for lunch snacks at work, but ate the whole thing the night before instead. I was reassured that I was getting good stuff and he couldn't imagine my man not being thrilled with it. He was also courteous enough to package the pepperoni sticks separately into flavor pairs so that my boyfriend would know what he had. Even though it was the weekend and they were busy, he didn't look put out by the request at all. While everything was being packaged up, I was looking at nearby things and it looks like they have a lot more seasonings, sausage-making supplies, etc. than they did at the old store. The new store is also much easier to walk around -so spacious!! I must have seen a dozen other things I wanted, but swore off for another day. My man LOVED everything from Blue Max Meats and not only bragged to anyone and everyone that his girlfriend bought him meat for Valentines Day, but noted that he thought the quality of the trail mix was much better than at other places he has been to. He has been telling everyone aboutBlue Max Meats and he hasn't even been inside yet! Every time he wanted a snack in between meals he went straight to the fridge for a pepperoni stick. He took them to work also. Overall, between the quality of meats, reasonable prices, and amazing customer service, I just can't recommend Blue Max Meats enough. The meat is very good here, but make sure if you have a large order that everything is in your bag before you leave. I bought two pounds of trail mix along with several other cuts of meat, some pinwheels, and some marinated meats. Well, I went to work and my wife decided to make some of the Bacon and make me lunch with it....BLT would have been GREAT! Being that I'm now getting into more jerky, we decided to come here. Jerky. The jerky is all the way at the back of their store. It's about $22ish/lb for most if not all of their jerky. We asked the counter guy what the difference was between the jerky. He gleefully obliged by telling us that the hawaiian jerky was the same as the teriyaki jerky, but it had pineapple in the hawaiian jerky. I believe we bought about 1/2lb of five different types of jerky. It's a thick cut and flavorful jerky. I hear they also have seasonal types of jerky. This butcher shop is incredible!!!! You can't beat the selection of meats and service. Located a little off Canyon and 512, this shop has great parking. Once you enter, they usually have 5-6 folks working the counter on weekends. Never waited more than a minute for help. Selection of meats is awesome: bacons, pepperonis, jerkies, sausages, steak, chickens....they have it all. The special marinades are great as well. I have struggled all day with whether or not to even write this review. I am a frequent customer and absolutely love making a trip all the way out to Puyallup to Blue Max because of the quality of product and exceptional service I normally receive. Unfortunately, today did not hold up to their excellent standards. We arrived to a busy store earlier in the day to pick up some jerky and steaks. We waited at the counter and were promptly helped by JT. He was absolutely fantastic and a perfect representation of the normal level of service we have previously experienced. We found a new jerky flavor that we ended up loving so much that we made a second trip later in the evening. This is where things went downhill quickly. Upon arriving, the store was at the same level of business as earlier in the day. Myself, my daughter, and another customer entered at the same time. I forgot I left something in my car so I quickly stepped out and returned to walk up to where my daughter was looking at all the choices (just in case we missed another great new flavor we didn't see the first time). At that point, one of the employees quickly marched up to me and the other patron and proceeded to berate us by basically shouting loudly about all of us cutting the line in front of a number of other customers. So loudly in fact nearly all customers in the store spun around and stared. I have NEVER felt so embarrassed or unwelcome. It took me everything to not walk out of the store, but my family enjoys the products so much, I tried to tell myself it was a fluke. It was when the other shopper who entered the store at the same time as us came up to me and told me she was snapped at as well about cutting in line, and additional shoppers telling the three of us how uncalled the response by the employee was, that I realized it was as bad as it made me feel. I understand there are Covid restrictions and it puts merchants in a bind, but something as simple as a "please line up here" sign inside the door or an employee monitoring the number of customers coming in, this whole situation could have been avoided. In the end I still spent around $200 between both trips because the quality of product stands for itself. The normal level of customer service is what puts them over the top. The second visit was unbelievably uncharacteristic for Blue Max and extremely disappointing. Hopefully they can come up with a solution to prevent patrons from feeling like they aren't welcome in the future. read more
