I agree with the poster that you should probably eat the produce sooner rather than later but I've NEVER had a problem with the staff. Honestly they're so cheap that I'd probably put up with a little sass to get the deals they have here. So I bought strawberries and corn on the cob sunday. Brought it home and put in frig for dinner Monday night. Opened the berries Monday night and they were beyond rotten. They stunk. The corn was no better. Returned to cappys the next day. Cashier was rude because I didn't have a receipt. She reluctantly dug $4.20 from the till and told me I shop at SAFEWAY. How un professional. Love to find and visit small, local fruit/produce stands and this is one to see. Good location, a pretty vast variety and the quality is superior compared to some of the others around this area. What's even better is the pricing as well!!! Oh and the hours are great too, especially summer hours, 9pm:) I can always stop by on a late night at work and get what I want and need and it's so nice to not have to cash out on produce and know that I am also supporting local farmers. We love this place... Yes you have to use what you buy quickly but they have such great prices and the people who frequent the place are so polite and most are as knowledgeable as the staff that works at the place. I just wish we lived closer or they'd open one up our house now. read more

I just went there to pick up a few last minute items for my Jambalaya. The produce is way cheaper than a regular grocery store. It was clean and well layed out. I will be coming back here for my fruit and vegetables for now on. read more

I always come in Cappy's Produce Tacoma as it is very close from my house , cheap and friendly staff except for this not so friendly staff named Martha. She doesn't have customer service I already apologized and told her that next time I come in I'll line up in the proper spot (me as a customer) for lining up in the wrong spot but she kept saying things to me so I said 'do you want me to pay or just walk out '? I for one is working as a supervisor dealing with a lot of customers, I know when to say things or when to stop but she kept on and on I just don't want to stop coming to one of my favorite produce store just because of one staff that kept arguing with customer Remember customer service is the key which obviously this Martha don't have I swear if I go back in that store and she does it again I will personally talk to the owner about how she handles customers No matter how wrong customers are there's always a way in talking or explaining things specially if the customer already apologized right away read more

I love this place! The produce is fresh, varied, and cheap! And holy cats, they had 20 lb cabbage heads! It's the best place to get Honeycrisp apples that don't require a payment plan (69c/lb last time) and they have local Puyallup produce when it's in season! The corn? Forget about it. Best corn that you don't grow yourself. The staff is friendly and helpful and they play some awesome music from the 40's sometimes. Nothing like some Glenn Miller and Andrews Sisters to make you load up your cart with an extra nectarine or two! This has become my place for veggies and fruit! I'm there at least a couple-three times a week and pick up things for family as far away as Mercer Island and Everett from time to time. Now, if they could open that chain link gate that keeps me from getting there directly from the K-Mart, Big Lots, and Burger King parking lot, I'd be golden. Turning left into their lot off 72nd can be a pain and possibly dangerous as you have to cut into the turn lane for the park and ride. I'm guessing that's not their call, though. I'll never buy produce at the chain groceries again! read more

This review has two parts. I didn't give them one star because it's actually a pretty decent produce stand. They carry a ton of awesome things, especially if you want to make Mexican food. Often I find the produce is VERY RIPE, which means I shop for a day or two because it doesn't last very long being stored. The second part is a comment on their customer service. I have been here many times and received mediocre service. The employees are not super friendly, and sometimes act very put out because I am interrupting their time on their phone to ring me up. They have a minimum charge on credit and debit cards which they are unwilling to waive. I checked out today and during the check out realized I forgot something. When I tried to pay for the second order (which of course was under the minimum) the employee looked at me flatly and told me, "We have a $5 minimum." I told her I didn't have any cash and needed the item I was buying and she said again, "Well, we have a $5 minimum. " I asked what I am supposed to do and she replied, "I guess you can pay the 50 cent fee." Which I did, and I understand for small businesses the fees can add up quickly, but perhaps a little bit less attitude and some kindness would have made me less angry. She was so exasperated the entire time and her attitude made me never want to go back, which I probably won't. It's a shame, really. read more

I LOVE Cappy's! It is the first place I go shopping for fruits and veggies and with a strict gluten free diet, Cappy's offers me food I can eat without breaking the bank. I shop here year round, I love the variety and anyone that says the staff is anything but very friendly is likely the problem. They have always been extremely kind and helpful, letting me taste fruits I had never heard of and telling me how to cook jicama. Sometimes you may have to pick a few bad pieces out, but a few strawberries out of a $5 flat is well worth it. I can fill my cart with fresh fruits and veggies for $60, nowhere else in town is this possible. They also accept EBT and have a meat section now! read more

I am giving it 2 stars because of the variety. However, I found it to be a tad expensive and most of the fruit i bought was very hard. I know a lot of items are not in season, but I have shopped at Valley Produce off River Road maaaany times and the fruit is ripe and fresh, as well as affordable. I only stopped there because I was in the area. If I would have known what I know now, I would have saved my money and went to Valley when I could. The staff was very friendly though! read more

First off let me just say that when I went here that this place was SO DIRTY!!!! And a lot of the food was rotting and some things were even moldy!!! I went to the meat section and the meat was not even edible it looked gray and green! Totally never coming back here again!! read more

Nice place for fresh produce. There is always something for everyone. Great hours, convenient location, good parking, low prices... whataya want? I can stop in, find some inspiration for dinner and poof..I'm out. The prices on dairy and other grocery items is a little high (that explains only 4 stars) but, it IS a produce shop. This is my "go-to" store ! It doesn't have a bad smell like some other local stores might have witch for me is a Major Plus & All the employees are friendly & that makes it more pleasant coming here. I usually go for the veggies that are not already in the paper bags because they're fresher. Great little place to go and not spend a lot. They often have better then great deals so stop in and take a look . I have had issues with avocados here the ones I have purchased from here have been bad :( but everything else is great. I don't recommend buying a lot of produce at one time because the fruit is at its peak. They get great deals and oh boy they pass them on to us. The produce that is at deep discounts should be used with in 3 days. If you can foods this place is lovely and should be visited often. read more

First time at Cappy's even though I've been trying to go for years. Definitely glad I went.... Prices are amazing and the produce was fresh... Well all except the bell peppers I had to pick thru them a little. Looks like I found my new produce place... No more chain grocery stores for me! The only thing that could make it better would be opening the gate that separates Cappy's from the Big Lots/Kmart parking lot... Turning left off of 72nd is not fun. Cappy's Produce has the best quality and value that I've seen, and I've been shopping longer than I care to think about. The produce is very reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and always willing to answer your questions and assist. They're eager to assist. These folk understand "customer care" and work at giving the customer (me) a feeling that their business is welcome, wanted and appreciated. Their staff is friendly, courteous, and always willing to help. They carry my purchases to my car without me asking. EXCELLENT source for reasonable first rate fruits and vegetables, just the best, and more than reasonable prices. I walked out with 4 bags of produce for $14. 2 kinds of apples, oranges, asparagus, sweet onion, cucumbers, lemons and limes, mushrooms,broccoli, cauliflower strawberries and more. They have lots of different offerings also, big cactus and aloe leaves, and lots of different spices. I live downtown Puyallup so easy to get to, just less than 10 minutes and worth 5 times the drive to me. read more

We found Cappy's similar to old time grocery in the small town.. The produce is superb.. The family atmosphere is EXCEPTIONAL.. They carry out for you too. My wife loves this place. Our 6 donkeys, the pony and Wilbur are very happy too with the left overs. If they could talk they would rave about Cappy's The checkout experience is awesome .. This place is great. They have a huge selection of FRESH produce. Not the type you buy then have to use within 24 hours or it goes bad. They work hard to keep it clean, organized and well stocked. The prices are at least 50% cheaper then the grocery store and the staff is always asking how your days going and or if you need help finding anything. After my first visit I knew I'd never buy old produce from Safeway at double the price again. Im so glad its just down the street from house because I find myself going there all the time. They also have a great little "Mexican candy" section my daughter goes crazy for. Cappy's excepts food stamps, cash and debit/credit cards. With the credit/debit cards they ask that you spend at least $5 to offset the fees for running the card. Their prices are so low I sometimes find myself having to go back and grab something else to reach the $5 but I see this as a bonus not a drawback. Your always getting double the produce for the price of anywhere else. read more

I love Cappy's! What I like most is the affordability - without having to buy 10 lbs. They also have a great variety. Sometimes their fruit is a little overly ripe, so just pick carefully, but everything I've bought there has been delicious!
