I absolutely love to shop at Tacoma Boys and have been for the last 25yrs...up until recently I have been completely satisfied with my shopping experience, the last two times I went(yesterday being my last visit)I noticed that there are some things being WAYYYY overpriced. For instance the Twin Brooks Creamery milk products. Everywhere else that i know of have not raised the price on any of this vendors products so I know it has nothing to do with inflation. This is very disheartening considering I have always been a satisfied customer.....there are a few things I do not tolerate, and greed is one of them. I've been a fan of Tacoma Boys for years. I planned a special dinner menu for tonight. I've known that they are a little pricier than the competition but this trip was different. When I checked out I thought it was pricier than I expected. When I got home I researched the prices and the mushrooms (cremini) were double the price of Safeway for an identical product. The wine was twice as expensive as the exact same bottle. Finally the "Wagyu" has no Safeway equivalent but the quality of the steak was nothing special and could feel the gristle when slicing it for serving. Next time I'll go to Safeway and use the money I saved and drive to a butcher for the steak. The shine has been tarnished. read more

I love stopping in whenever I'm in the area. Their produce, spices, sauces, hot sauces, jams, plants, pots, deli, wine.......everything is awesome. On this visit it was a cold day. My friend and I were both freezing while shopping. I would highly recommend wearing warm clothes if you're shopping here in the Winter. Their prices are on the high side. But I do believe they have quality products. They do have a small shelf with some markdown items. I found a few hot sauces for $1 each. I don't think hot sauce goes bad & I use it quickly. Also found a delicious Merlot that was only $5! Sadly didn't take a picture of the label. Tip: the small side street you turn onto off of 6th AVE is horrible. I've gotten used to paying a "little" more for stuff at Tacoma boys, I think everyone in the area knows this. They do have some nicer meat, wine and produce at generally about 20% higher than the bigger chain stores, ok fine. But I was just charged 8.99 for a pound of DeCecco linguine 8.99! 16 ozs of dried linguini!! DeCecco is a little better brand, but still should never be over 4 bucks... That's just a big middle finger in the face.. I'm willing to pay a little more for better quality and to support a local buisness, but that's just rude. Yes I know I didn't have to buy it, but I'd already forgotten it; ran back in to grab it real quick. I will now avoid Tacoma boys altogether! read more

I was charged 23.00 apiece for two small cardboard boxes of Lucky Dog Sake that retail elsewhere for between $4 and $5. I was tired (it was late evening and I was on the way home) so I did not notice the outrageous total until I was home and looked at the receipt. When I realized what had happened I returned to request a $46 refund. The clerk said there was no manager in the store so he could not give a refund and told me to return the next day. Which I will do, but I am done with shopping at Tacoma Boys. UPDATE--NEXT DAY: Went back and got my refund. It turns out that the $23 price is for a six-pack of Lucky Dog Sake boxes. There were five on the shelf when I bought the two and the manager suspects someone broke open the pack and stole one box. I would recommend they use stronger packaging for the six packs and use a different UPC code on the 6-pack wrapping than the UPC on the individual boxes. I upgraded my review from one to three stars because they did give me a refund without fuss. It would have been four stars except for having to return to the store the next day for the refund. read more

This is my favorite grocery store! They have an incredible selection of fruit, meats, cheeses, beer and wine, candy, and so much more. I was so impressed when I learned that they don't close, and are open 24/7. It seems their butcher counter does close around 10pm, but the store is open. They also have a great selection of hanging floral baskets, potted plants, and pots. I love coming here for their chocolates/candy and fruits, especially! They have such high quality produce and always seem to have the most interesting selection of things, like cotton candy grapes and pink pineapples! read more

Good & Bad T Boys Carry some great product, the prices are mixed. For what ever reason, some category of products are OVERPRICED, some average and a few good deals (usually apples or fruit specials) Produce always looks good & Fresh. The outdoor Planter/Pots selection is wonderful, but sadly... very overpriced. The "Buy 2 get third free" deal sounds good in principle but when the first two are 400-600$(or more each) & similar quality/material planters, can be found for 150-400$ each, the math does not pencil in your favor!!! The wine is not shelved correctly, to much light and temp not controlled well enough. Pretty good pricing on veggie starts and seasonal special items. Plants & other outdoor items overpriced usually, including hanging baskets. I wish T Bit's was more consistant with price point & slightly more competitive with like goods. I prefer to spend my money at family owned & local business, but it needs to also make sense to do so. read more

I stopped by on Wednesday the 29th to see if I could order a fruit basket. I figured I was way late but I was quite surprised and impressed. I spoke with a handsome bearded man that told me all about what was available, some options and I could have it made while I waited. I was totally pleased but opted to come back on Friday to pick it up. They did an amazing job!! Beautiful fruit basket filled with lovely fruits .. all bundled up in cellophane wrapper and large red bow. It was totally impressive!! I felt like Bob Cratchit lugging the huge basket to my car. My friends were very impressed when presented it in Christmas Eve. They have a houseful of guest that will appreciate the gift!! read more

I used to love Tacoma boys for their large wine and cider selection. They also have great seasonal fruit and vegetables. However, the last few visits have disappointed me. The service is not so great. There's a lot of teenagers working there with a nasty attitude. At the register I can't even get a good afternoon or hello. I'm not asking for a whole lot but a simple acknowledgement would be nice. If I ask a question it seems like such a bother. Agree with others that the prices have dramatically increased so for that and the poor service I'll shop somewhere else. read more

I came upon this little gem by accident a few weeks ago. The produce is very fresh the selection of canned foods is vast and great for hard to find foods. I didn't try the meats yet but I will . They have have hundreds of glazed pottery outside the store. They add another level of carefully selected items. This is really an Italian food grocery like they have back east. Go visit and explore the nicely chosen foods shipped from Europe. You will think you are in Italy. Quite an original find, without the prices of the Metropolitan Market. read more

I try to shop at Tacoma Boys but consistently find that I can't really get things I need even when I think it's a "Tacoma Boys" sort of item. I find it much easier to just go to proctor metropolitan market (example today: marscapone cheese). Tacoma boys is clean and the employees are nice, but today I also was frustrated that they lack any line structure. I thought I knew where to stand (maybe it just applied during pandemic) but it's always a little bit of a free for all. I purchased a Christmas tree on Thanksgiving Day at the 6th Ave location and looked for the $60 trees advertised on the Tacoma Boys website. After walking the entire lot the least expensive tree I saw was $120. I caved and decided to pay the high price and looked for a tree person on the lot. I found one on the far side of the building and asked if he could please help me. I interrupted him texting and he begrudgingly followed me to the tree I had picked out. It was propped up against a barrier and I told him I wanted to see if the tree had any holes. He grabbed the tree and told me to "get out of the way" as he yanked it out. He was so rude I should have just left and taken my business elsewhere. The tree looked nice and I asked if he could trim the trunk. He clearly didn't want to and said it will seal back up within 30 minutes so there was really no point and I told him I lived close by. He told me to go pay which I did quickly and I met him back at my car. He had the tree set on top of my car and walked away saying someone else would secure it. Another worker took over tying the tree and I didn't dare ask to have it taken off to have the trunk trimmed like I had requested previously. I got the tree home and had it in the stand quickly and filled up the water. It has been four days and the tree has not absorbed ANY water whatsoever. The receipt says all sales are final. The tree is decorated but is already looking dry and no way will it survive until Christmas after spending $130 + with tax. Never again will I be buying a tree or anything else from this place. A very disappointing and poor experience. read more

I generally love Tacoma boys and come here as often as I can for fresh fruit and produce. I love the meat counter and butcher who always offers ideas on how to cook and prep they were cut of meat I am purchasing. They always have very interesting cheese selections as well as a lot of different deli type items to choose from. The only downfall I found from this particular visit was I saw a advertisement for a single flat of strawberries for 10 bucks it came with 8 containers... I got them home and the next day when I started to prep them I notice that all 8 containers had strawberries in the bottom that were moldy and unusable. I ended up composting the entire flat of fruit and wasted $10. This will not deter me from coming back I will just be more mindful of the items I am purchasing and the quality and freshness of those items. read more

We swung by here on a Sunday to do some grocery shopping before we headed back to Seattle. All of it looked fantastic from the outside. But once we were inside the shop, the grocery prices were average, nothing super cheap like we thought it was going to be. Overall, we walked out with: - steak from the butcher counter - steak rub - giant zucchinis - honey tangerines They had some good prices on the meats at the butcher counter and their produce was good. What I was looking for was more something like the grocery store Sprouts (big in CA), but was a little disappointed by the prices but it was still a good experience. Talk about an amazing grocery store. I wish I could do all my grocery shopping here. Although it is a bit pricey the quality is definitely top notch. The produce section is not only beautiful but much of it is sourced locally. They have a great beer and wine selection as well as fresh breads and tortillas. The meat and fish is all super fresh and is basically a cooks dream. They have a wall of hot sauces, freshly made pico de gallo/salsa (which theres always samples) , a great cheese selection and basically any spice you can think of. Thank God this store isn't close enough to my house for it to be a regular shopping stop! I absolutely love their produce selection. During the summer they carried cotton candy grapes (yes, it's a thing and they are organic). The ones they carried were sooooo much better than the ones I picked up somewhere else. Their beer and wine selection is hard to beat. And if you're a meat lover then this place is for you. Most recently I got some Asiago and sun dried tomato chicken breasts. They were sooooooo good! And then... can we talk about the Christmas trees? I've always gone to tree farms and never would've thought to pick a tree out of a parking lot. Thanks to a friend who got a flocked tree there I thought I'd check it out. I'm so glad I did! I also never thought I'd want a flocked tree. So wrong. One of the best places for gourmet groceries in the South Sound, Tacoma Boys will hook you up with great produce, restaurant quality meats, tons of specialty shelf items - including a large selection of ethnic items, fantastic cheeses, an olive bar and unusual candies and desserts. I'm not even getting into the stunning beer and wine selection. Typical experience that keeps me coming back: One day I needed to pick up lunch meat. I spy Kurobuta ham. "Hmmm...isn't that supposed to be really good stuff?" methhinks. I buy 2 pounds, bring it home, and my family inhales it in less than 48 hours. It was THAT good. So I go back to get more. "Where's the ham???" They tell me it's gone; they cut up the extra they had from a special order and they don't normally carry it. Wah! Lesson learned! I shoulda learned it when I got the best sea bass I'd had in years there, or the time I found all that Coppola pasta stuff. Buy it when you see it - cause it might not be there next time. I love this place. It's a specialty store as a specialty store should be. They don't waste money on overly fancied structure--it's just an old building that they refurbished just enough to make it nice. No wasted flash cash on materials or decorations, and that is absolutely a good thing. Second, they have admirable focus on useful choices in the departments they stock. They have a lot of flowers and plants and pots outside, which seems a little outside the realm of grocery specialty, but if you actually have a yard to plant, these guys can hook you up with really nice specimens at great prices. They had a bunch of really hearty looking, healthy looking Japanese lace leaf maples for $50, and they were well over 3' tall. That's a great price. Good price on hebes, annuals, cut flowers, all kindsa stuff. Inside, there are all kinds of interesting specialty items from small independent producers. The packaging often has a handmade and very basic feel, but you can tell you're getting stuff from passionate purveyors--pastas, crackers, honey, jams and jellies, produce varieties that might be new to you. Some stuff is a screaming deal, some stuff is a fair price on really high-quality non-cheap items. There's a massive wine selection. There's a massive beer selection. There's a solid deli. You can really do well shopping here. There's virtually no packaged or processed stuff, at least not in large amounts. It's all the grocery stuff you actually care about if you cook--though, in truth, you probably can't get by completely if you try to use this as your only grocery store. But you can do very well using it as a permanent anchor in your grocery shopping rotation. read more

Sad to see what my beloved produce shop has turned into recently. So as Kevin / Karen as this petty review may seem to someone just know I do not do this ever and if I at all could have worked something out I would have happily. Regardless here we go. I come in at 4:30 Today Sunday April 7th as we are celebrating a birthday and the menu picked was lobster shrimp Alfredo and coconut prawns. I came in thinking they should have something fresh. I saw the seafood all looked frozen hoping it was partially frozen I was asked what I needed. I inquired knowing my need of serving food tonight with people coming over and asked specifically how frozen is the the lobster and large prawns I need to eat them tonight is that doable. And the guys says to me yeah I can defrost them for you. I thought that strange so I replied you can have them ready to cook tonight defrosted and all for me? He again says yes. I say great and grab $150 in prawns and tails. Additionally my 4 teenage kids are all standing there the whole time witnessing this conversation and just saw me leave Safeway and market place and Trader Joe's looking for fresh or cookable seafood. I get home and the shit is frozen solid it would take hours to defrost without ruining it. I run back thinking maybe he just forgot and the same two guys look at me like I'm crazy and say they never had the conversation. I ask what I'm supposed to do and they said put it under cold water. Now I'm even more under the wire with the drive back just to be called a liar in less words and told they can't even deshell the lobster for me so I can get it down quicker. "They don't know how to do that kind of stuff. Oh sorry thought I was at Tacoma boys butcher counter my bad. Anyways. I get left waiting for half hour for a manager and am the talk of the hour here feeling really stupid with time running out and here I sit the dumb one who must on drugs because I'm hallucinating conversations that apparently didn't happen and "just trying to get free shit" according to another person whom felt I needed to be further kicked apparently. Not once did I raise my voice or ask for anything outside or what was agreed nor did I or do I want a free damn meal. I'm now going to ruin my kids birthday dinner / meet the girlfriends parents after spending a day trying to ensure I wasn't here. I will not be back outside of making sure I repay the favor. I mean my dad worked for this damn place when I was growing up and I've come for years. I'm shocked and disgusted defeated and devastated. I hope this is used for coaching and the wonderful guy who wants to not think of his actions when helping a loyal customer and perhaps maybe help me think of a solution. So gross read more
