It's been a hot minute since I've been in a Freddy's! I was told that this location didn't have the door wannabe-police so I decided to poke my head in since most of my favourite PJ pants come from Freddy's. This is a very small store with a tiny clothing selection, so looks like I'm turning up empty there. I decided to take a trip around the store and found that it's basically like the Freddy's I remember. I found several items that are cheaper than where I've been buying, so as long as they don't pretend to be a private club and hassle me I'll probably put this store back in shopping rotation. read more

Fred Meyer at 19th and Stevens is a total rip-off. I am continuously overcharged and need to carry my phone around to take pictures of specials. Then I need to wait in another line to get reimbursed for the overcharges. The Pharmacy has an insulting person named Amanda working in their department. She continually treats me with disrespect and has flippant answers to my questions. Such as, "can't you read"? Referring to a hidden sign at the cash register, rolling her eyes and and acting like I am a great burden to her when she has to check with the pharmacist with a question I have. If I were able to rate 0 stars, I would. This review pertains more to the jewelry store. The management of this location is far below the standard of other locations and needs to be voiced more and not silenced by the manager of this location. From bad customer service to inappropriate and racist remarks that are said to sales floor personnel without any disciplinary action being given to the offenders is unprofessional and sad, considering that the company is well-known. More attention needs to be given when it comes to HR handling issues like this, instead of pushing everything under the rug because of favoritism, which seems to be the leading factor in why all existing issues have not been taken care of. Bottom line is that the management of this location is the issue, and nothing is being done to fix these offenders from continuing to treat workers poorly. read more

I found a Rubbermaid product on the Fred Meyer website, and it showed that it was in stock in the Ballard store. I tried to call to confirm that they had it but could not get them to answer the phone. I went to the store and they did not have the item and the sales person just said you can't ever trust the website and walked away without any other comment. I have shopped at this store for years and I actually used to enjoy shopping here. Pre-covid, when my son was little, he loved playing in the play room they used to have. Post pandemic, I can understand why they no longer have this. But that's not what this review is about. There are always people either sitting or passed out at every entrance/exit of the parking lot with all of their things strewn everywhere. Just yesterday when I came to get some groceries, an argument broke out in the parking lot. Thankfully security came out, which I think helped. It's just hard to feel safe shopping here anymore. Am generally not a complainer, in fact this is my first review with a complaint: I ordered some groceries from this store today to be delivered by instacart..went pretty good until the driver Le, texted me that my groceries were left of at the front door of my residence...when I opened door to get them there was nothing there., texted Lea the order was not there.checked other door, walked down street looking on porches.............order not there. Texted Lea about 4-5 times, went online to instacart...nothing worked...no groceries. Called Fred Meyer, they gave me a 1-800 number..where is L. and my order? Am not saying the first name because I am not complaining specifically about L, but I asked them to have L call me..not happening. Where are the real people? I recently stopped by to get a pre-made 12" sub sandwich, which at $7.99 is a good deal. However, when I went to pay it rang up at $16.99, which I knew was incorrect. I asked the cashier to void the transaction and I walked back to the deli and checked the other subs in the deli case and sure enough, all of them were mis-marked at $16.99, which is actually the price of their 2-foot subs. I then walked over to the deli counter and asked a young woman to verify the correct price in their system (I knew it was a human error but I didn't want her to take my word for it) and if she could re-price it at the correct price of $7.99. She checked the system, didn't say anything, and applied a new price sticker of $7.99. I asked her if the system showed that there was indeed an error and she replied, "No, and I don't care". This was a shocker, as I've never had any staff there have an attitude like the one I just experienced. I don't know if Fred Meyer management reads these reviews but they should, and if they do, they need to instruct their staff to treat customers better and to show pride in their job. This particular employee needs a serious attitude adjustment, and hopefully, it doesn't happen again. read more

Beware online shoppers. Fred Meyer's/Kroger's has adopted a policy with price matching when they substitute due to running out of merchandise they advertise. Please ask if you need to pay more because the one time I forgot, they charged me double for this sale item that was a substitution. I called the store later after viewing my receipt and the "associate" stated, Oh, yeah, we don't do that anymore. I asked when that went into effect. She stated, oh, 2 weeks ago which was the last time I ordered and picked up my order. I now click, "no substitutions." read more

This store is so under staffed it's ridiculous. Checkout Lines are always insanely long, shelves are never fully stocked, and most employees are overworked or don't care. I feel bad for the to good employees because they have to deal with frustrated customers, and pick up the slack from being understaffed. I don't think it's the employees fault. I think this store is poorly managed. I've been coming to this Fred Meyer off and on for the past 8 years. Sadly I've seen it steadily decline. This has become a consistent weekly problem dealing with the website. There is ALWAYS an issue and usually a different one each week. This week it was accepting payment and adding card info. Hours talking to different people without resolution. The website, by turns, won't let you choose substitues, update info, and more. Yes, the homeless bums aren't their problem and the City of Tacoma should take the blame, but it seems like corporate has also given up on trying to improve this store. The parking situation is always a mess. They have paper bags with no handles. There is usually only one person at the deli counter and never enough cashiers open despite record profits. Everyone already knows your trying to cut back the hours of your employees because you can have one clerk for six registers on a set up where the customer is doing the work but you can at least give the single clerk a chair and a pressure mat. Really frustrating! Deli counter at 9am is staffed with at least three people who wouldn't acknowledge me as I stood there for a minimum of 5minutes. I was ended up walking away. The only reason this place doesn't gets lower star is because of Gail.( the lady that was helping us check out ) Let me explain. First off, I get there and there was no one waiting or checking in. So I walk up to the woman at the counter and let her know that I need to get a refill. She then proceeded to tell me that I was in the wrong line and points to the counter 2 feet away. Like really ?? There is no one here what line and why can't you help me ? Ok, so I walk my 2 feet and someone from the back comes over to help take my request. So make sure if you come to this pharmacy you look for the " drop off " section so you don't have to wait on the wrong line to set up your refills. When I did come to get my refills, after being notified that they were ready, there was this long line waiting for me. The woman taking care of everyone ( Gail ) had a cast on her hand and was still trying her best to be friendly and move people along as fast as she could. The only thing I don't get is why is it that you have 4 other people there with her pretending to look busy instead of actually opening another register to help with this long line ? Like I get it that you have people that only do check in or check out. But there is no reason to have so many people waiting just because it's not your day to work check out. Even the pharmacist is able to check people out but he was just standing there waiting to ok things. I'm glad that Gail was there but this place need some help organizing their staff. read more

I've been going here for years. I like the wide variety of products and prices. Fred Meyer has almost non existent customer service. They've also reduced their cashiers to hardly anything, long lines. There's really no heart to the place. I bought tomatoes yesterday and opened them up this morning, and they were covered in mold. Update 11/11/19- The remodel has been done for a while now. While the product selection has been improved, the layout still takes some getting used to. Peanut butter and pasta in the same aisle? Hmmm. And the main produce case is a pain in the a** to deal with. If there are more than two or three people selecting their produce nobody else can access the case. Plus, the thoroughfare too narrow. People park their cart to get their produce and it blocks all traffic going through that area. The new checkstands (with baggers) speed up the checkout process; however, there are less lanes open at one time. So, the wait to checkout is occasionally longer than it used to be. At least they installed more self-checkouts, which help with smaller shopping visits. Once I get used to the layout I'll probably enjoy shopping here again. read more

I'm from California, where we don't have Fred Meyer stores. This place reminded me of Walmart, but nicer. I mean that they have a little bit of everything. Need to paint a room of your house? Need to plant a garden? Need a ladder or some tools? Need to outfit yourself or your family? Need fresh produce, baked goods or other grocery items? Fred Meyer has it. Inside this store is also a Fred Meyer Jewelers, a Starbucks Coffee, a Chase Bank, an eyeglass/vision store, and some other things I've forgotten. There was a playroom you could deposit your kids in - it was playing a Disney movie, and I didn't see any adults there supervising, but all the kids were paying rapt attention to the video. This is a very large store and has a large variety of products for sale. Parking was easy and there were a lot of handicap spaces, though most all were taken when we arrived. If I had a Fred Meyer near me, I could see myself shopping there often. read more

Since moving to the Northwest, Fred Meyers has continuously impressed me. Similar to the Walmart I know and love, there is everything here from gardening supplies, to produce, groceries, shampoo, and a few other random knick knacks I love browsing throughout. I stopped here to purchase a cold drink after walking around Chambers Bay and was pleased to find so many things on sale. If I had more time, I was eager to do all of my grocery shopping here. While I love Fred Meyer's inventory the one thing I will say is it is kind of tricky to understand how somethings are organized and grouped. read more

I have shopped at the Tacoma 19th & Stevens Fred Meyer since 1980 for most all my groceries. In the last year or so, I've often been disappointed that favorite items and brands have not been available. Examples: Coffee mate non-dairy creamer: In the past few months there was none on the shelf. Finally, there was ONE value size carton, which I didn't buy because I prefer smaller, easy pour size. Two weeks later, still just that one big carton only. Outshine frozen fruit bars in Mango flavor. Need to stock more of this flavor because you run out. Obviously, it's a favorite. Au Jus gravy mix package in name brands no longer available. Kroger doesn't make good Au Jus sauce. Shopping carts: For whatever reason, there's few or none available these days! This is so annoying that I have now been shopping more often at alternate stores that understand you need a cart. Bagging groceries: The people bagging groceries often load all the heavy items together, which is very difficult to load into the car. They need to do better at distributing the weight. Often, the sacks tear from the weight and groceries are rolling around in the trunk when I get home. One more reason that I choose lately to shop elsewhere. It's a shame, because Fred Meyer used to be my favorite store. read more

There's this black guy who works there and he was in my way and was talking to his friend, I politely said "excuse me" to grab something and he just looks and me with the rudest look as if I'm an inconvenience. I ran in to buy 1 turkey, couldn't remember my phone # associated with account. I so seldom shop here. Once a year max. While standing in line I noticed a heavy set male mid 30's, caucasian wearing shorts. It's 48 degrees rainy windy so not many people are wearing shorts. He walked right by me with his blue mask hanging off his nose, like a chin strap. I didn't say anything to him. I watched him pull it up as he approached a caucasian 40's, co worker, whose name I believe was James Cordero- the male employees initials were JC- for sure. I mentioned it to JC, your employee isn't wearing his mask correctly. He was very unfriendly, snappy & indigent. By now the now the employee in shorts was 6 aisles away. The employee I was reporting this to looked and said, I see his mask. Not I'll check on it- nothing. Just rude. There is a proper way to wear a mask & an improper way. The shorts wearing employee was wearing it in an improper fashion. I I believe this guy in shorts was a stocker, as he was pushing some type of larger cart. So I get to the cashier, I wasn't sure what my member # phone # was as I don't shop here. It took me 3 times to get the right #. There was no hand sanitizer despite having to touch the key pad. So I asked Cashier, Susan Morenso (I believe that's her name shorter dark haired lady, wearing her black mask, in her 50's, is there some hand sanitizer - having had to touch the key pad. She reached behind her counter allowed me to pump 1 pump. And then she said, Now, "I have to sanitize my sanitizer". I said go ahead. She repeated, go ahead! I don't know if she was being funny, or sarcastic? It really doesn't matter I don't go there more than once a year. Maybe I will never go there again. The only reason I am giving this store 1 star is because I can't give zero. The only thing that I see this stores done right is there's a small bottle of sanitizer when you first walk in. Nothing to wipe the carts down- so I used hand sanitizer and wiped it down with some brown bathroom hand drying paper. It was not super visible but I looked for it. Why don't you have hand sanitizer up front for us to use at the cashier stations as many people need to use the pin pad ? Is Kroger / Fred Meyer that cheap? I bought one thing a turkey. There were 11 turkeys. No turkey breasts, only whole turkeys. My last trip to this very disappointing store!i wore 2 masks as I have never felt it was a clean store, "mediocre" at best. There's only so much you can say about the differences from one FM to the next. This isn't one that I hit up every week for groceries or anything like that, so I can't comment on consistency over time or any other wisdom that comes with regular experience. But I have run small errands here a few times when I am back in town visiting friends and family, and yesterday I got a full whack of groceries for my mom. This store really made it easy to get all the stuff she needed. First of all, the parking lot here is always busy. Even without stopping in, it's easy to see that--it's on a busy intersection, and there's a good chance I'll drive by here from time to time on my trips to T-Town. They're never slow. Yesterday was no exception; I was lucky to get a decent parking place. There are tons of different departments here, like any FM. This one seems to have one of everything that the whole chain sells, but I was only in for groceries. What's nice about grocery shopping here is that all the packaged goods are set off in latitudinal aisles, and you know if you need something in a box or a can you will steer that way. All the fresh produce, meat, seafood, and so on gets its own wide section at the end. It's not like they stock super-premium stuff, and their organic section is small, but they turn that old maxim on its head: "to eat healthfully, shop around the perimeter of the store, rather than in the aisles." At this store, they hit you with nice produce displays right up front, and you almost feel like you can do all your shopping from displays of fresh stuff. I really, really dig that. Of course, it also kinda means that their fresh displays fit into a smaller square footage, but the quality is decent, and the prices are pretty amazing compared to premium supermarkets. The staff here are nice enough, and very helpful. They checked stuff for me and answered questions easily without having to look up anything. I got my mom four decent-sized bags of groceries for under $40. I do have to add that I went to high school right across the street, and occasionally we would sneak over here to get pops and snacks during the day (but usually after school). That was a long time ago, and the store has been seriously remodeled since then (as well it should have been, in all that time), but it looked like they still had the bakery firing out bagels in the grocery section. That always struck me as an odd specialty for a chain grocery store bakery department to develop, and even odder that they still had them years later.
