There's only so much you can say about the differences from one FM to the next. This isn't one that I hit up every week for groceries or anything like that, so I can't comment on consistency over time or any other wisdom that comes with regular experience. But I have run small errands here a few times when I am back in town visiting friends and family, and yesterday I got a full whack of groceries for my mom. This store really made it easy to get all the stuff she needed. First of all, the parking lot here is always busy. Even without stopping in, it's easy to see that--it's on a busy intersection, and there's a good chance I'll drive by here from time to time on my trips to T-Town. They're never slow. Yesterday was no exception; I was lucky to get a decent parking place. There are tons of different departments here, like any FM. This one seems to have one of everything that the whole chain sells, but I was only in for groceries. What's nice about grocery shopping here is that all the packaged goods are set off in latitudinal aisles, and you know if you need something in a box or a can you will steer that way. All the fresh produce, meat, seafood, and so on gets its own wide section at the end. It's not like they stock super-premium stuff, and their organic section is small, but they turn that old maxim on its head: "to eat healthfully, shop around the perimeter of the store, rather than in the aisles." At this store, they hit you with nice produce displays right up front, and you almost feel like you can do all your shopping from displays of fresh stuff. I really, really dig that. Of course, it also kinda means that their fresh displays fit into a smaller square footage, but the quality is decent, and the prices are pretty amazing compared to premium supermarkets. The staff here are nice enough, and very helpful. They checked stuff for me and answered questions easily without having to look up anything. I got my mom four decent-sized bags of groceries for under $40. I do have to add that I went to high school right across the street, and occasionally we would sneak over here to get pops and snacks during the day (but usually after school). That was a long time ago, and the store has been seriously remodeled since then (as well it should have been, in all that time), but it looked like they still had the bakery firing out bagels in the grocery section. That always struck me as an odd specialty for a chain grocery store bakery department to develop, and even odder that they still had them years later. Maybe next time my mom needs groceries I will check them out to see if they're as good as I remember. read more

For years this was my favorite store. Not any more! They are forcing people to go through self-check by only having very few (usually one) check stand open. This evening there were 10 customers, with full carts, in the line for the one and only cashier. We do not like self check, for many reasons, but felt we were forced to use it, or wait in a very long and slow line. If they refuse to have a sufficient number of check stands open, we will not continue to shop there. Very disappointing after having shopped there for many (over 20) years. I've tried to call the store manager, but when calling the store, all you get is a phone tree, with no option to speak to a real person or to leave a message. So frustrated with this store! My mother is 75 years old and disabled. She has been a customer of Fred Meyers for decades but has noticed a change in attitude and I thought I would tell her story. My mom has a very bad knee, needs to walk with a walker and because of her being independent she likes to go up to the store on her own to shop and say hi to all the employees that work in the store. the one thing that makes her shopping experience tolerable is the use of the electric carts at the store but the carts of late have been broken and falling apart. She has been stranded a few times in the middle of the store with her groceries when the cart broke and has caused issues for her. She has asked the manager and other employees about the condition of the carts. They have indicated to her they have called corporate (Krogers) and have gotten nowhere. Is this how Krogers takes care of those who can't take care of themselves?? It seems if they had a conscience, they would immediately approve a invoice for the store to either fix the carts of buy new ones so their disabled customers can shop with comfort but sadly that's not the case. Its disappoints me that a multi billion dollar company has lost their way. It's nice that we do have choices and I will encourage my mom to seek out an alternative place to shop who takes care of their elderly. Fred Meyers says they require masks to be worn BUT inside most people do NOT wear masks, or they have on a worthless face shield, thin, pretty but worthless cloth mask, a useless bandanna or their mask is on below their NOSE totally bypassing the mask. I HATE having to shop at Freddies here it's a MONOPOLY, we have no place else to shop for food! At 81 I'm very vulnerable to COVID infections, I have to go out of my way to dodge the many non mask wearers, or wait until "her majestys" have finally left the isle I need to go into, it can be a long wait, in the mean time, there are other antimaskers to avoid! I am in the area to take TSA English Comprehension Computer Test at TCC so I figured I'd stop by for lunch. I bought 1/2 lb of popcorn chicken and a medium sized chicken noodle casserole. I go here because I know where everything is and it's a bigger more spacious store then other stores in the area. Cashiers are always friendly. My complaint is that I saw a rat in the frozen food area today. I was so grossed out to see a large rodent scurrying around. Then my 8 year old noticed that there were rat traps everywhere..... Infestation? I don't know.. Does the health department know? Probably won't go back anytime soon. read more

Went to use the bathroom and could smell it from the hallway before even entering... smells like a forest fire, asshole, pee, sweat, and was filthy dirty from floor to walls to ceiling... damn near threw up had to go outside after to get some air and the rest of the store is just as dirty... would rate 0 stars if possible read more

I bought a Fred Meyer gift card for a family member for Xmas. It's says all over their websites that these card can be used for fuel, which what I bought it for. Family member goes to use the card a few days ago and they say they don't do that anymore!??! What the heck is going on? Not only has this store gone to hell since the remodel but now you're conning your customers? This is totally unacceptable, shame on you! Every year I come here with my family to tailgate and watch the fireworks at Cheney Stadium. This year they've decided to chase away all the folks here for the show. This is really disappointing and stupid on their part. They could make money from this: have a special sale, charge for parking, etc. But no. They said they need to save parking for customers. Jesus take the wheel! I had to tell myself "Please Jesus! Take the wheel!" I had a $50 Fred Meyer gift card that I wanted to use. So I purchased the item at a nearby Fred Meyer location with the $50 gift card and cash but after leaving I realized that the very same item I just had purchased was cheaper at another retailer so what I should have done was go back to the original location and get the price adjustment but instead I stopped by this location since I was already near it. Could of... would of... saved myself some BS. I reviewed Fred Meyer's price match policy that was listed online at www.fredmeyer.com/topic/home-electronics-ad-match This is when I needed Jesus Christ to take the wheel because the associate at customer service tried to play stupid. She almost made me take out my "serving arm" but Jesus Christ did take the wheel. She's just lucky that a Seahawk's win today put me in a good mood because she was testing my faith. I approached customer service and explained that I wanted to price match a recently purchased item. The associate at the counter tells me that Fred Meyer does not price match. How are you going to tell me that Fred Meyer does not price match but when I showed the price match policy from www.fredmeyer.com on my smart phone you then proceed tell me "oh that's not our site" Sooo YOU DID KNOW that Fred Meyer has a price match policy because you don't recognize the Fred Meyer's website that I showed to your face but a moment ago you told me that Fred Meyer does not price match. All of a sudden huh?! I told the associate yes Fred Meyer does price match other retailers. Maybe not the online prices from Amazon or NewEgg but a local retailer competitor that is located within 25miles of this Fred Meyer location. So I bust out my big ol' iPhone 6 Plus that has a 5.5-inch high definition screen display in 1080p with crystal clear clarity! I showed the associate the Fred Meyer price matching policy. My iPhone 6 Plus is so big even people without "eagle eyes" can see that sh*t from a distance on my screen. So it wasn't hard to see the legit Fred Meyer website and price ad policy & rules. She then tells me that they do not price match online prices. Oh Mary mother of Jesus Christ this woman wants to fight me! I was like "Come at me bro" so I read out loud (slowly of course). According to Fred Meyer's policy "The best way to show proof of a lower price is to bring in the competitor's current ad or display the competitor's current print ad on your electronic device (e.g. your Smart Phone)." BOOM! COME AT ME BRO! So she tells me that it'll be up to the associate in the electronics's department to decide. Sweeet baby Jesus! Okay, fine! The customer service associate and the associate in the electronics are both in cahoots with each other because the moment I left customer service she was on the phone talking sh*t about me to the electronics associate. People don't like to be proven when they are wrong and she was shown in black & white that I caught her slippin. The associate in electronics started flapping his gums about not being able to take the item back and sell it to me at the price match price. Well, I didn't get the adjustment at this location. I had to go back to the original location and have it done there. In the end I should have just gone to the original location in the first place and not be hassled over chump change. I like Fred Meyer. I try to make Fred Meyer my first stop in my shopping needs but I'm not stupid enough to pay the higher price. Yes, I would have gone to another retailer to buy the same item but I had a gift card that I wanted to use. Should I have asked for the manager? Maybe but generally the best associates are at customer service. This associate was lacking in customer service and store policy. I like going to Fred Meyer for my daily needs, I've never had a problem up until today. I normally send money to my family out of states at the customer service department. A week ago my wife had an issue with one lady - Malia Lu. This poorly trained in customer service employee was belittling my wife because English isn't her primary language, she was being very rude and disrespectful and i witnessed that myself today when I decided to send money with my wife today. I was the one who would be paying for the transfer but my wife would be the name on the "sender", so this "wonderful" employee Malia Lu asked us if we wanted to send USD or the Foreign currency. I answered USD she shut me saying "I was asking her not you", It also seemed like she was questioning us like we were terrorists "are you sure you've sent money before?" - "is your address on your ID current?" - "are you sending it as a telemarketer?(I don't even know what she meant by this question) just many unnecessary questions that seemed like me and my wife were sending money to scam somebody. I've been sending money at Fred Meyer Customer Service for the past 4 years and I've never been treated so poorly until we met Malia Lu. Please somebody look into retraining this lady or putting her in a position where she doesn't need to interact with people. read more

The grocery pickups here are a joke. They charge extra for any subs they make and don't bother to tell you until it's all packed up in your car. They never inform you of subs like they are suppose to. (They are always "to busy") The manager is rude. The produce is already rotting half the time. Take the extra time and go to the University place location or even better a whole different store. read more

We have been utilizing the Fred Meyer Grocery Pickup now for a few weeks and it's been pretty great! They are way less busy than Walmart and Safeway so it's much easier getting in and out. The only reason why I knocked off a star is because they most often than not are missing items and it seems to be the same items each week which is a bummer. They have decided they not longer want to carry misses career blouses. Lots of sweaters in non flattering styles, lots of exercise clothes and yoga pants, very little for working ladies clothes. Dip doesn't work for many people. Their misses clothes leave much to be desired. They cater to juniors and womens but not to misses I will shop elsewhere now. read more

This is a "super store", which means they have the furniture, crafts, sporting goods, paint, clothes, etc. Main thing to note: One of the most consistently rude pharmacies I've ever been to. The other Fred Meyer on 19th, about a mile West, is food only with a pharmacy and they are much better there. Really. AVOID THIS PHARMACY! Great customer service in every other area of the store. This is my neighborhood store. While I appreciate most the staff and what it offers I am SO DISAPPOINTED IN THE MEAT DEPARTMENT. The main cutter has been broken for years and most the people who work in the department are pretty rude when I ask them to cut meat for me. Go to Proctor Safeway if you need meat cut. This is the larger of the two Fred Meyer supermarkets in the Tacoma/University Place area. There is a third, better, and more modern Fred Meyer in Lakewood. This Fred Meyer has a large clothing/furniture/housewares section; the other Tacoma Fred Meyer is food-only. This Fred Meyer is a dingy, older building. It needs a bit of sprucing up, and that seems to carry over into the quality of goods and services inside. Meat Department: The meat department here is troubling. I've had specific incidents where rancid meat was packaged beneath a layer of fresh meat. Generally, though, the quality of meat here is lacking. The fish section, in particular, always smells, making me believe that it is not clean. The beef and pork, also, though, appear to consist of disappointing cuts of lower quality meat. Produce: The produce department here is acceptable, and is what brings this up from a one star review. I would not say that it is a standout produce section, but it does have a decent amount of prepared fruits, and a fair selection of organic produce. Generally, now, the only reason I shop at this Fred Meyer is that it has goods that would not be sold at Tacoma Boys or Thrifway, and that I would not wait to get from Amazon. In other words, the only things I tend to buy here are things like dog food and ziploc bags. For me, the produce and meat departments here steer me away from this location. read more

​There are some good people at this store, but as others have said, overall, it's about the worst Fred Meyer in the Puget Sound area. I will say the people in produce dept are pretty fabulous, and a few of the younger cashiers are pretty good as well. I think the problems start with leadership - the highest levels of management, and instead of bringing out the best in their employees, they are so uninspiring, employees aren't motivated to go the extra mile. Overall, I feel sorry for the employees. The best thing the corporate office could do is replace the highest levels of management, with people known for inspiring their employees. Part of the problem might be the corporate office, if they're not providing enough hours for the store to get things done, or shipping enough product so things don't run out (esp. with sales). I'd really like to shop at Fred Meyer - it's closest to my house. But there's always some headache - product is out of stock, or price tags are wrong, or lines are super long (usually only Sat or Sun afternoons, so avoid those times). As a result, I buy more at other stores. I agree with others that the deli options at this store are really disturbing - I wouldn't buy anything in the deli. read more

Freddys was our go-to for school clothes, jackets, socks, rain boots, organic food, specialty items (I make our household products including laundry detergent), gardening, groceries and more. FM was a one-stop shop. When I first moved to Washington many years ago I used the Ballard FM. I was blown away that a store like this existed. I went weekly and still did until a few months ago when my store (Cheney stadium) began the remodeling. The manager was so vague when I asked questions about what was happening. She knew I shopped primarily in organics. She didn't want to tell me it was going away and be sprinkled throughout the store. The organic section was the best! I'm not going to spend an hour going through the store looking for what I need. Then I went to look for a new bag and the employee told me they cut clothing down by 80%. No bags anymore. Barely anything. So FM is just another grocery store that stopped carrying all the things I need. It's a shame really. I'm incredibly disappointed. I imagine we will see them close before long. read more

If I could give them 0 stars (or negative stars), I would. This store has constant problems with pricing and they just don't care, nor does its parent company, Kroger. The problems begin at the top of the store. They frequently fail to pull tags with old prices once a sale is over. They frequently fail to enter sale prices into the computers. At a recent visit, 2 out of 7 items purchased rang up wrong, but I didn't notice until I started walking away from the register. I was told I could only get it fixed at the customer service desk where the line was 6 people deep. The asst store manager simply found excuses - there was no recognition on her part that this was an ongoing problem that was disrespectful of customers' time. I certainly have not seen any improvements over time, despite having pointed out the pricing problems many times to front end or store manager. They're not willing to do anything to compensate you for your time (in some states, stores are required to give you the first item free - which motivates stores to get their prices right). Their whole system is designed to be deceptive. They seem to hope (1) people won't notice; and (2) if they notice, they'll walk away to avoid standing in a long customer service line. They have no respect for people's time. If they respected customer's time, they'd have a way to fix the problems at the register. (In addition, their check-out lines tend to be long; on this visit, I had waited in line 7-8 minutes to check out, only to have the prices be wrong, then waited in line again, to have the cashier fix the problem, only to be told she can't - I was also told they cannot even void an entire transaction at the register. Instead, you have to walk halfway down the store to a long customer service line.) On the same visit, I had been trying to figure out prices in one aisle. A Fred Meyer's employee was in the aisle and I asked. It turned out someone had failed to remove several sales signs for the sale that ended 2 days earlier. This isn't an unusual occurrence for this Fred Meyer - it is a regular occurrence. So this represents several more pricing errors, on the same visit. Because of these problems, I've gone to buying just a few items at Fred Meyer, only when the price is so good I can't get it cheaper elsewhere. But when you end up wasting 15 minutes of your time over their pricing errors, that makes it a very expensive visit indeed. The reason for these problems isn't the remodeling they're doing - the problems existed long before that started. read more

The employees at this location all seem very unhappy with ... everything, and they don't hesitate to convey their discontent to customers. On more than one occasion, an employee has just walked away from me while I'm asking for help. I can write one instance off as someone just having a bad day, which I sympathize with completely, but when you get negative attitudes and rudeness consistently during consecutive visits, there is something wrong with training, management or the work culture that needs to be addressed. Why would they expect people to pay to be treated with such contempt? It's a shame because I like their variety and there are occasional good sales, but no, thank you, I'll find another option that isn't quite so depressing and unwelcoming. read more

Fred Meyer hot deli is horrible mean old ladies and lack of fresh hot food I have complained to management numerous of times sometimes twice in one week they don't care about it because if they did it would not continue happening over and over. Went in for a few things at 10:00 PM. Shady customers every other isle. Something seemed different about the customers. Some had dirty clothes spaced out and walking without any baskets or carts. Sort of tweaking with head movements.Thought it was a zombie apocalypse. I only heard one security code in section 7C over the intercom. The young female cashier was sharp. When I mentioned this too her, she responded " At this time of night their are shady people everywhere". She interacted with customers and staff in a very professional manner while handling my transactions without missing a beat. She could multi task. So I understand not everyone likes wearing masks or thinks this pandemic is real. But, isn't it better to be safe than sorry?! When you can't even get your employees to wear them properly, rather than around their neck and make jokes about wearing them. I wear one every day at work and I wear my mask for others NOT for myself. So, it seems to me to be common decency to at least have your employees wear them and wear them correctly and not make jokes about not wearing them correctly. read more

It was our first time doing curbside pickup. We didn't have the EBT card needed but he was so dignifying to us, reassured us all our things would be safely stored and ready for us the next day, even knelt by the car to see eye to eye. This Fred Meyer needs a overhaul. I'm not just talking about the building . The girls who work the hot case foods should all be fired. They are the most rude, incompetant employees I have ever seen in a grocery store. I go to this store because its close, not because i like it. 2 to 3 time a week and about 1 to 2 times I get poor service from the hot case food section, wether its they are, put out to help you because you have interuped there food prep or there out of what you want. I also think its a management problem because it has been like this for years and no change. I will say this though, that the girls who run the self checkout are always on top of it and very efficiant. Avoid this store at all cost !!!! Here's how I "save time" by using the self-checkout area at the grocery store: First up are the grocery bags I bring in and set down in the bagging area. That cues the voice: "Please remove the items from the bagging area." I set them on the floor. I scan my club card and a few items, then try to sneak a bag back up on the counter in order to bag as I go. "Attendant has been notified to assist you." Oh great--now I look like a dummy. Over strolls the attendant, makes a few expert clicks, and my bags are allowed back on the counter. She asks if I need any other help. No no no I'm fine I say. Done it a hundered times. No problem. I put a baggie of bulk powdered cumin on the scanner that must weigh--oh--negative one pound or something. The machine is supposed to weigh it because it's priced by the ounce. I press "look up item" and find it. It asks for a quantity. What--like how many grains of powder? You're the scale not me. I put in "1" in order to move on, and it registers a price. I take it off and put it in a bag. However, because the scale can't feel the item, it also can't feel me take it off. Oh, but the bagging area has no problem registering that I put it there. "Please remove the item from the bagging area." Ah crud. I put the baggie of cumin on my shoulder for the time being, just to get it out of the way without freaking out the machine. Next up--nice heavy bananas. However, the scale still thinks the cumin is up there, so asks me to remove the last item. I pause for a bit wondering what to do, which prompts the dreaded words: "Attendant has been notified to assist you." Over she strolls. I tell her it freaked out over the cumin so again she clicks a few things and makes it ok. She asks if I'd like some instructions and I say no no no I'm good. Next up is a baggie of collard greens. Again, too light to weigh. Again, have to put in a quantity. Again, have to remove it from the bagging area. I put the baggie of greens on my other shoulder. Dang, still have those bananas to get through, and now it thinks the collards are still on there. "Please remove the last item." I put the bananas on my head. "Attendant has been notified to assist you." Ah geez. "Well if it isn't Carmen Miranda!" exclaims the attendant. She's a real bag of laughs. We get the bananas, cumin and collards all safely bagged away, and she retreats to her register. Bottle of wine. Uh-oh. "Please show your ID to th--" The attendant is ready for that one and ok's it from afar. Perhaps I've purchased a bottle or two of wine here before. As I finally stroll out the door with my bags, I hear her telling her manager that she has time to help him now that she's done helping the wine lady. The most consistently dirty of the all the Freddy's in the area. The hot chicken display near the front of the main food entrance always looks like the same dog hairs are stuck to it with old grease. Even after we mentioned it to a manager, the next time we came, the same dog hair was stuck to the chicken display. The deli section also needs to a cleaning. I would not buy anything from that area. Look at all the crud on the shelves. Gross. Simple cleaning would take care of it. Instead, as I cruise the produce department (one of the few depts I will still shop in), I can hear the deli ladies and bakery ladies bitching about their jobs. Oh, look, there is a bakery lady decorating cakes sticking her finger in the bucket of frosting and licking it off. And she keeps frosting cakes. No gloves, no washing folks. I practically run to tell a manager and as I am talking to him and we are looking over there, she does it again. Now I only stick to the prepackaged stuff there. Moving over to the hardlines area, I see the same ugly red crinkle blouse hanging on an main aisle rack for the last two months. I am not joking. I move a spring blue color blouse over it because I am sick of looking at it when I walk by. Maybe if the merchandiser over there gave a crap they could sell some of those dogs. Sorry to be so blunt Mr. Meyer, but I have shopped at your stores for over 40 years, and it is sad to see this one go down the toilet. I make special trips to the Fred Meyer in Downtown Puyallup when I have time. The difference between the two stores is night and day, and I don't just mean the size difference. read more
