This Fred Meyer needs a overhaul. I'm not just talking about the building . The girls who work the hot case foods should all be fired. They are the most rude, incompetant employees I have ever seen in a grocery store. I go to this store because its close, not because i like it. 2 to 3 time a week and about 1 to 2 times I get poor service from the hot case food section, wether its they are, put out to help you because you have interuped there food prep or there out of what you want. I also think its a management problem because it has been like this for years and no change. I will say this though, that the girls who run the self checkout are always on top of it and very efficiant. Avoid this store at all cost !!!! Worst cashiers ever at the toy and garden side. Saw us coming and tried to duck down like he wasn't there. The other cashier took 20 minets playing with a customers new pair of shoes. After waiting 10 minets for her to get done with ONE transaction, I just left. Left my would be purches and said " forget this. Here's how I "save time" by using the self-checkout area at the grocery store: First up are the grocery bags I bring in and set down in the bagging area. That cues the voice: "Please remove the items from the bagging area." I set them on the floor. I scan my club card and a few items, then try to sneak a bag back up on the counter in order to bag as I go. "Attendant has been notified to assist you." Oh great--now I look like a dummy. Over strolls the attendant, makes a few expert clicks, and my bags are allowed back on the counter. She asks if I need any other help. No no no I'm fine I say. Done it a hundered times. No problem. I put a baggie of bulk powdered cumin on the scanner that must weigh--oh--negative one pound or something. The machine is supposed to weigh it because it's priced by the ounce. I press "look up item" and find it. It asks for a quantity. What--like how many grains of powder? You're the scale not me. I put in "1" in order to move on, and it registers a price. I take it off and put it in a bag. However, because the scale can't feel the item, it also can't feel me take it off. Oh, but the bagging area has no problem registering that I put it there. "Please remove the item from the bagging area." Ah crud. I put the baggie of cumin on my shoulder for the time being, just to get it out of the way without freaking out the machine. Next up--nice heavy bananas. However, the scale still thinks the cumin is up there, so asks me to remove the last item. I pause for a bit wondering what to do, which prompts the dreaded words: "Attendant has been notified to assist you." Over she strolls. I tell her it freaked out over the cumin so again she clicks a few things and makes it ok. She asks if I'd like some instructions and I say no no no I'm good. Next up is a baggie of collard greens. Again, too light to weigh. Again, have to put in a quantity. Again, have to remove it from the bagging area. I put the baggie of greens on my other shoulder. Dang, still have those bananas to get through, and now it thinks the collards are still on there. "Please remove the last item." I put the bananas on my head. "Attendant has been notified to assist you." Ah geez. "Well if it isn't Carmen Miranda!" exclaims the attendant. She's a real bag of laughs. We get the bananas, cumin and collards all safely bagged away, and she retreats to her register. Bottle of wine. Uh-oh. "Please show your ID to th--" The attendant is ready for that one and ok's it from afar. Perhaps I've purchased a bottle or two of wine here before. As I finally stroll out the door with my bags, I hear her telling her manager that she has time to help him now that she's done helping the wine lady. The most consistently dirty of the all the Freddy's in the area. The hot chicken display near the front of the main food entrance always looks like the same dog hairs are stuck to it with old grease. Even after we mentioned it to a manager, the next time we came, the same dog hair was stuck to the chicken display. The deli section also needs to a cleaning. I would not buy anything from that area. Look at all the crud on the shelves. Gross. Simple cleaning would take care of it. Instead, as I cruise the produce department (one of the few depts I will still shop in), I can hear the deli ladies and bakery ladies bitching about their jobs. Oh, look, there is a bakery lady decorating cakes sticking her finger in the bucket of frosting and licking it off. And she keeps frosting cakes. No gloves, no washing folks. I practically run to tell a manager and as I am talking to him and we are looking over there, she does it again. Now I only stick to the prepackaged stuff there. Moving over to the hardlines area, I see the same ugly red crinkle blouse hanging on an main aisle rack for the last two months. I am not joking. I move a spring blue color blouse over it because I am sick of looking at it when I walk by. Maybe if the merchandiser over there gave a crap they could sell some of those dogs. Sorry to be so blunt Mr. Meyer, but I have shopped at your stores for over 40 years, and it is sad to see this one go down the toilet. I make special trips to the Fred Meyer in Downtown Puyallup when I have time. The difference between the two stores is night and day, and I don't just mean the size difference. read more

They have no idea what they are doing at the photo dept. and over-develop the film (when I mentioned it them, they suggested it was my camera....except I am a professional photographer, and have never had trouble at the OTHER Fred Meyers I've taken my film to). read more

BAKERY review - omg this is The BEST bakery. I would love to give this award to a homegrown place but sorry, I have never been disappointed with birthday cakes here. My latest birthday cake was a tres leches vanilla choco & everybody loved it! They also have a death by choco cake that you can get by the slice and yum. .you will go to heaven. They do kids cakes with characters and will customize according to what you want (colors, flavors, etc). Prices are super reasonable and they have a great variety of other awesome sweet treats. This is regardihg the Tacoma 19th & Stevens St. store...... They've literally DESSIMATED their clothing, shoe, and sock sections with their latest "remodeling." As a 25-year customer, doubt I'll be shopping there much anymore. Horrible. And who thought only carrying their own line called "DIP" was a good idea!?!? ("DIP"??? Not the best Freddy's, but ok,. I like Fred Meyer's produce and natural food selections. Fred Meyer rewards and fuel savings are awesome. Food prices are comprable if not better than most grocery stores. AVOID the older ladies at this store. Maybe it's not all the older ladies, but I haven't found a nice one yet. I am haunted by this to the extent that I no longer buy groceries at Freddie's ( love their garden center though). Last winter, somewhere around Christmas time, I noticed an elderly woman had her ancient dog in her cart. The poor dog was incontinent, and the lady had a few paper towels under it which were soaked with urine. I said something to an employee, who blew me off with "poor thing, they're here all the time!" She rolled her eyes when I said I didn't want dog pee on my groceries, acting like I was the bad guy. I noticed from her name tag she was the assistant manager! Very dingy inside. Everyone who works at this location is rude, with the exception of one or two people. The deli is the worst! There is one woman in particular who is just awful to every single customer she speaks to no matter what. I actually drive out of my way to shop at the Fred Meyer on River Rd. in downtown Puyallup now. Its cleaner, brighter, and the people are so much more friendly. Plus they have a lot more items to chose from, as the store is much larger. read more

Just got a flu shot and was full of questions about it as well as a shingles vaccine. I was expecting to get educated about both further so I could have a better understanding. Instead I received curt answers and was immediately told I was too young to have the shingles vaccine with no immediate explanation why I couldn't or shouldn't have it despite battling shingles for the last three years. A former doctor from the previous state I lived in even advised me to get the vaccine. Eventually this pharmacist got around to telling me that the vaccine was a live virus. I was left to infer that it might cause another bout of shingles for me. I find it interesting that the healthcare industry gives lip service about wanting patients to get more involved in their healthcare prevention yet I was met smugness and abrupt answers. Definitely disappointed. read more

Been going to this Fred Meyer my whole life, always reminds me of going in the past. I remember one time my mom made me go to the store with her when I was sick. I puked in the front enterence, no one looked at me or asked if I was okay. They just assumed I had something they didn't want. I have always been fond of Fred Meyer. Their staff is always friendly and helpful! I don't have that much common sense at all, so I tend to be awkward when using the self checkout lane. On a few different occasions, the self checkout lane attendees were there to help me, and they did not even seem agitated. read more

I used to love this location but you really are slipping the ball. There isn't one visit there where I wasn't approached in the parking lot by a homeless person or someone obviously on drugs both asking for money. This store is great. It has a coffee shop, natural foods section, pharmacy, optometrists, children's play area, excellent staff, and great selection of hot and cold foods, clothing, supplies, and more. it's a great one stop shop not too far from the Cheney Stadium. The location is a perfect spot for people living in between North and South Tacoma, Fircrest, and University Place. There's even a park and walking trail near the back, next to the garden center, where I see people walk their dogs all the time. Close enough to the Tacoma Nature Center if you ever wanted to refuel in between nature walks and bird watching. Even the high school students and staff love to go to Fred Meyer for a quick lunch, snack or coffee. This is a great spot for a lot of people. read more

The workers are friendly enough and it is easy to just stop by here. The deli and bakery in here are pretty pathetic though. I used to get deli food from here but it got progressively worse so I don't anymore. Last time I was in, I though a donut sounded good, but I should have known better. When I got it home it had curdled cream in it, and was obviously a day or more old. read more

I went in ordered my cake Friday for a princesses cupcake cake told her I was picking it up Sunday mind you she had a little attitude because I took her away from what she was doing to order a cake which was only gonna take a couple minutes told her I'll be right back with the receipt because I always pay for my cakes ahead of time.. picking up Sunday at 12.. I come in Sunday to pick up the cake and it wasn't even made she said she marked it for Monday because I told her that .. every parent or person who's doing a party knows exactly when they want their stuff especially when they paid for it.. instead of arguing and getting my moneyback for a cake I never got I hate to say I won't go back to that atmosphere.. which is crazy because I have been ordering their cakes for decades atleaset five times a years for occasions and birthday and recommended them to a lot of people for how good it is instead of trying o fix it she got a bigger attitude.. if you didn't wanna take the order call someone else or find a job that makes you happy ..
