I ordered some hand blended seasoning from Olive & Basket recently and I was so impressed with how quickly it was sent out - as well as the helpful updates about its shipping status. When the seasoning arrived - I had a question about the product. I called their contact number and right away a friendly voice answered. The customer service representative was so kind and helpful on the phone. She said that she would check in with the manager ASAP in regards to my inquiry and follow back up promptly. A couple of minutes later - the same personable customer representative called me back and revealed that her manager had called the manufacturers of the product and she was able to answer my question with confidence. I was blown away by the incredible customer support at Olive & Basket. The staff went out of their way to make sure that my questions and concerns were heard and addressed and they did so with such genuine care. We enjoyed our visit here. The helpful employee (owner's sister) facilitated tastings of spices, oils and vinegars without being at all pushy. Best were the shaker jars of the spice blends, enabling a whiff of what the taste may be like, for free. The mango vinegar is pretty special and might be worth the visit, alone. read more

I first heard of this place probably back in 2010 or so while wine tasting in baltimore at one of the festivals. After that, i made it a point to find them whenever i attended the one at rash field. One of my favorite foods is cherry tomato, feta, and cucumber salad with oil and vinegar. The bacon infused olive oil and fig vinegar made this go from good to phenomenal. The quality is unreal. Received the mango vinegar and Meyer lemon olive oil as a present. What a wonderful gift! They are both so tasty! I have been using them when marinading fish and on the grill for chicken. They bring out these different levels of flavor. I am told that during covid Olive & Basket deliver to DC. So re-ordering -- which I need to do soon -- will be easy! This place is wonderful! Family owned and operated. Everyone is so helpful, kind, personable, creative and knowledgeable. I've been able to be creative with oils and vinegars because of their assistance. I purchased a dark chocolate vinegar for my berries and orange oil to substitute for oil in my brownies. The best olive store ever! They have many different flavors of oils and vinegars. The store owner is very knowledgeable and personable, she can offer a lot of recipe ideas for each of the items that she sells. I only wish I didn't have to drive so far over an hour. This is a wonderful store and has hands down the best customer service you will ever experience. Having never stepped foot inside of a store like this, my fiance and I were greeted in a very friendly manner, and were immediately asked what we might be seeking. After informing them that we were looking for party favors for our wedding, the friendly staff helped walk us through the world of oils and vinegars ( there are so many that it can be overwhelming without a guide). After coming to a decision and choosing the favors we wanted, the service at this store just continued to grow, they offered to wrap the favors together for our guests and even tied them all together with a wonderful bow. To top it all off, they offered recipe cards that could be added to the gifts, so that our guests could make amazing foods out of it. Words cannot express how amazing, helpful and friendly everyone was that we interacted with. Love to patronize little specialty shops like this. Enjoyed sampling and ended up buying way more than I anticipated but it does make great gifts (if I'm able to part with it!). A bit put off by having to purchase the bottles. They do allow customers to bring them back for refills but it was a surprise to me on the first visit. They also sell spices, condiments, crackers, sauces, preserves, and neat kitchen-ware. Sales people are friendly but not intrusive. Will definitely be returning! read more

Oil and Vinegar is new to Frederick. We happened upon this posh specialty store and was pleasantly surprised. The owner and her sister were working and we very attentive to introducing us to their products. They created a few samples of oil and vinegar and we loved every one. Our favorite (we purchased 2) was the mango vinegar and lemon oil mixed together. TRULY AN EXPLOSIVE COMBINATION. I can't wait to try one at home on a spinach salad. This is a great place to purchase gifts and a variety of specialty seasonings and rubs. I just hope that the rest of Frederick appreciates the delightfulness of this store so that it can stick around for years to come. read more

Had such a great visit to Oil & Vinegar Frederick - it's a beautiful store! The owner and her sister were working that day - they were incredibly welcoming and helpful! They were happy to share their knowledge and offered tastings of not only the oil and vinegar but the amazing international food items in the store. I left with oils and vinegars that I would never have thought I would like (mango, lavender and pomegranate), in addition to pumpkin seed oil from Austria and Basil Creme and Artichoke/Garlic creme. Yes, you buy the bottles, but you bring them back for refill - I prefer this to adding to the heap of recycling I put on the curb every week. Looking forward to my next visit! read more

Frederick isn't new to lovely oil and vinegar options, so when an additional store opened up I figured I should see what they had to offer. I have to admit I was disappointed with the extremely high price point for oils and vinegars that didn't really seem up to par for what was advertised. The taste was lacking and the knowledge of the store clerks wasn't what I would have expected. I'm going to stick with the original oil and vinegar emporium that started it all!!! read more

My husband and I love this store. We have been in quite a few times and I have fallen in love with using the tomato pulp vinegar and a touch of the garlic olive oil on my salads. They also have some delicious jellies/jams that are great for serving guest with cream cheese and crackers. Plus you earn bonus points with every purchase. I recently went to a Valentine tasting event. What a great place. I learned all about the different oils and vinegars and how you can be creative in using these in your cooking. Even though they're new to Frederick, I've known about these guys for years. In the past, I've placed online orders from the Charlottesville store, so of course I was thrilled to not have to pay for shipping anymore. Everything I've tasted or bought has been good; they have lots of samples out for you to try. Compared to their competition on Market Street, they have a lot more items other than just oil and vinegar. Mustards, chutneys, rubs, dip bases, etc. However, unlike their competition, if you get oil or vinegar they charge you for the bottle! In both cases, you can bring the bottle back for refilling, but still...even when I ordered online, I didn't have to pay for the bottle. Here you feel welcome to sample as much as you like (their competition barely puts out any bread and watches over you the whole time). Where I will buy from will probably depend on what I'm out to buy that day. read more

Wow! What a great shop with so many good things to choose from. The novello oils are out of this world. I am working on the last of my oil from Uruguay; the aroma and taste of the oil is so fresh. It reminds me of the oil I had in Tuscany a few years ago. I got a large container of the bonsecco olive oil and use it in my everyday cooking. I spent a lot of time in the store trying everything. The staff is energetic about the products they offer. I had a really fun time with them. They gave me several pairings of flavored oil with flavored vinegars. I never knew something could be so delicious. The lemon oil with the mango vinegar is fantastic together. Lots of spices too! I really like the Mediterranean spices; very different. Most stores only offer Italian style spices, but here it will take you all around the world. Very cool store. It really gets my mind going to how I can use the oils and spices in my normal, everyday cooking. I could go on forever, the pesto, the olives, the tapenade, ....so good. If you are in the neighborhood, I recommend you stopping by. It's a real treat. Just make sure you a lot enough time to take it all in. read more
