The ingredients are fresh, the service is friendly and gregarious, the food is delicious and exceptional. I have enjoyed several different dishes on multiple occasions now and can say without question that this food is exceptional and rare outside Italy. Everything in this space is authentic, from the relatively short menu to the service it is a treat to have such an excellent meal for what amounts to a very good price. No question, in Frederick this is consistently the best Italian food served with care and pleasure. I have not had a single issue with anything over perhaps 6 dining experiences here. It is an absolute pleasure to enjoy a lovey glass of wine with the outstanding pasta dishes! If Fredrick needs anything, it is more small and outstanding restaurants like this where quality and value are in harmony.

The moment…read morewe stepped inside, it felt like walking into a neighborhood alimentari in Italy--cozy, welcoming, and filled with the aroma of good things being made with care. There are a few tables out front, but we were lucky enough to snag the single two‑seat table inside, which added to the charm. We shared the muffuletta, served on a soft hoagie roll and layered with Juliet's homemade tapenade. It was excellent--bright, briny, and beautifully balanced. You can tell everything here is crafted with intention. A wonderful stop for anyone who loves authentic Italian flavors and a genuinely inviting atmosphere. I'm already looking forward to going back.

They also have imported deli meats, cheeses, olives, and sausages. They are even known for their homemade Mozzarella cheese. We entered and felt that the area was quite small. I don't believe 6 adults could stand inside comfortably for long. It was quite cluttered too. We placed our order and opted to wait outside. We were told that it would take 15-20 minutes to receive our order of two paninis. We ordered the Italian (prosciutto, sopressata, homemade mozzarella cheese, and sliced garden tomatoes, homemade basil pesto) & the Sicilian (spicy capocolla ham, homemade mozzarella cheese, sliced garden tomatoes, and red onions, homemade basil pesto). The sandwiches were quite tasty. I especially loved the delicious bread. The meats seemed fresh and the pesto was tasty! The sandwiches got the spot! Our paninis were approximately $12 a piece. I highly recommend calling your order in for pick-up. There's one small table with two chairs... It's not a dine-in restaurant. Parking an be tricky, but there is a designated parking space outside the building.

I found pappardelle at Dal Grano's once and that says all you need to know. Papardelle are wide,…read moresoft, flat pasta noodles that I first had in Rome decades ago. Growing up Italian stateside, I never knew about this light, wavy pasta dish. So pappardelle pasta is like some rare delicacy and I love it. This pasta dish is not easy to find unless it has been popularized in the Italian dining scene, recently. How can I explain this pasta? Papardelle are not thick like butter noodles, but instead they are thin yet wide. And at Dal Grano's, they must be experienced to be savoured. Do call ahead, because they might just have them made. Dal Grano's is a neighborhood place. We love how when you are dining, they actually talk to you and are friendly. There are a few other places around Mclean proper which I wish were more overtly warm and hospitable, in this way. All of Dal Grano's pasta is homemade and delicious. It's definitely great for carryout pasta or a diner-style environment with a homemade pasta lunch or dinner. I don't think they deliver or work with any of the delivery services. You just call and pickup. The butternut squash ravioli is tender and flavorful. We have probably have gotten different versions of their ravioli every time. Outside of the papardelle, I'm all in for their rich squid ink pasta when it's made. I don't go there enough to know if it's always available. They have over 50 homemade pasta combinations to choose from and a big freezer case of food to take home. My biggest issue with Dal Grano's is when I see all of the pastas in the serving bowls presented to order and cook, I want to buy them all at once. I know it sounds tacky, but they make me yearn for a pasta buffet there just so that I can taste all of the variations. Alas, if we were in town more we'd just need to go more often to taste all of their selection. There's only one other restaurant that does Italian this well and it's around 15 minutes away in Falls Church. But even that fabulous Italian restaurant does not compare with the amount and selection of homemade pastas at Dal Grano's.

There were two people working, a man and teenage girl, both were kind and knowledgeable. Gave me some recommendations. I could have been in there all day doing a tasting. I ended up getting the Galegea and the peach balsamic. They tasted good together. Figured they would be good to mix for a salad. They do ship. So if you find something you like and want to repurchase or try something new then you can order it. They even said if you wanted to email and get ideas for recipes that you can do that. I don't know about you but I always run out of ideas. I love a responsive business. It was clean friendly and warm inside the store. I would happily visit again to have the same experience.
