A Cautionary Tale (a real one, not a tall tale): First, I can't say that I'm writing a super fair review, because I haven't ever been into this donut shop. But my mom bought us some donuts from Olde Towne Donuts. I had a bite of a chocolate cake donut and it tasted fine. However, after eating a chocolate Long John, my 15 year old son informed me that he needed his rescue inhaler and some Benadryl pills, because he was having an allergic reaction. We didn't eat anything unusual for dinner. And the donut was the only other thing he ate. When I called the shop to ask if they use any kind of soy protein or pea protein in the ingredients- sure enough, they do. Before calling, I had searched on their facebook page a little to find out it if they had some special feature to their donuts- like "healthier" because of added protein, but I didn't see any mention of ingredients. When I called to ask, the girl who I initially asked wasn't sure what kind of ingredients they used, so I guess a head baker or owner got on the phone and confirmed that they used soy protein in their donuts. I'm not mad- thankfully my son was pretty quick to recognize it and was home where we were able to give him what he needed right away. Still, I caution not only customers with allergies or sensitivities, but I also have a strong word of advice to the owners: if you don't already have notices of this added protein ingredient posted in the store clearly as a warning, as well as on your website/ social media pages, I urge you to do so. It could seriously be a matter of life or death. My son has what people typically refer to as a "peanut allergy"; people who truly have that allergy are not allergic to nuts (I suppose someone could also have a nut allergy on top of it), but they are allergic to much more than just peanuts; it is a legume allergy. Legumes are plant foods formed inside pods, like beans, peas, and pea"nuts". Nowadays, there are so many unexpected foods that can cause an anaphylactic reaction for people with a legume allergy, because so many processed foods have protein as a filler (like highly processed frozen chicken nuggets). And now manufacturers are proud to boast their food item has "added protein". It is the legume protein that causes the severe allergic reaction, known as anaphylaxis. Which can often occur immediately upon ingesting the allergen and the life threatening symptoms can progress in just a matter of minutes. Thankfully, my son's reaction is not immediate- he usually has at least 30min before it becomes serious requiring immediate intervention, and lately he's been able to curb it by taking Benadryl, but he has had many ER visits and epinephrine as a young child. I have often been warned and urged by nurses and doctors not to take the risk of waiting, but to use the EpiPen injector and call 911 as soon as it is realized that ingested an allergen- even before symptoms- or as soon as he has symptoms -even if he's not sure he ingested an allergen. My point in sharing all of this is to emphasize the importance and seriousness of the matter. Please make it known to your customers in some obvious way (and certainly such that your employees would know) that your delicious donuts are made with soy protein (or pea protein or chickpea protein, or lentil protein- believe me, those are all used as added plant proteins.) Reading labels is second nature to our family, but it's so hard when something fresh made incorporates the allergen into their food that would not typically have added proteins. We love donuts and have eaten them from so many different donut shops and houses of donuts all over the country, but never encountered a hidden allergen in the dough. Taste is amazing and I've yet to have get them on an "off day". I don't know what else to say other than "they're delicious." We love this spot! Olde Towne Donuts offers a large variety of donuts, not just your typical flavors. If you're a big long John fan like I am, you'll find several great options here: vanilla, chocolate, caramel, butter crunch, maple bacon, and sprinkle. There's often fun seasonal options, too. Today, I had a vanilla iced pumpkin cake donut, which was very good. The shop also offers a few different blends of coffee. The shop can get a bit busy, and the staff are pros at keeping a line short and quick moving. I've always had great experiences with the staff and at the shop. I joined the line now reaching outside and waited my turn. SO many delicious choices, I ended up buying a box of 8. Friendly staff assisted me with patience even though they were super busy. Every time I come here late night, I always remember why. These donuts are so wonderful. I wish I could get there early in the day but at 10:30 PM on a Friday, they have always been nothing but pleasant. I don't know exactly what I'm getting until I get there but I try to have a general idea in case one of the ones I'm looking for isn't there. I genuinely cannot recommend these donuts enough! There are definitely some missing already. The powdered sugar ones with any icing , both chocolate and vanilla angel cream are my favorite donuts. The butter crunch twist ones are a very close second favorite. My husband is not usually a fan of anything overly sweet. I don't know how they do the balance so well. I'm not at all exaggerating, almost every donut he has is typically (our one difference in taste) too sweet. This is not a complaint. I enjoy some of those particular ones so much that if my husband picks up for us, he sends a text me ahead of time if they don't have them for whatever reason (rare). That way I don't secretly wonder if someone snatched it before I got home or something. Really I love this place! Trying to go more but you know, sugar and carbs and stuff. Great selection of donuts and danishes, great coffee (Dubuque Coffee's Brasserie blend), and great service. We usually shown up on Sat or Sun morning and there's a short line that goes quickly. Finally made it to Olde Towne Donuts earlier today and I am so glad I did! They have so many selections and sell out of their popular ones fast! When I arrived, I was picking up some donuts for a friend and she requested some jelly donuts and the long johns so she got a few of each! I also picked a glazed jelly as my treat for the day, and it was so good - legit cannot wait to go back for more! We stopped in for a quick treat as a first stop for a double birthday celebration. It was clear that we weren't regulars and didn't feel welcomed at all. My kids were well behaved by the standards we uphold as a family, but we were met with sneers and whispering that emphasized how differently things operate at our hometown bakery. I'm sorry we took 5 seconds each to pick our donuts and that we touched a bag that was believed to be our order, but a little kindness and understanding goes a long way rather than barking comments and staring at energetic kids and our interracial group. I'm not a big donut person, I can usually resist. They're either too dry or too sweet, just not that tempting to me. However - I tried a cake iced with chocolate from olde Towne donuts and it is divine. I take it all back! The outside is mildly crisp in a good way with moist goodness inside and delicious chocolate atop - that my kids can and do lick off alone. The shop is small with no frills. Finally had the opportunity to stop in here late one evening. I was on the way home from a late night out working and decided to grab a dozen for the kids in morning. It makes sense that they are open all night because this is when the cooking is done for the next day and the doughnuts are at their freshest. May as well be open for business if your there anyway I suppose, so around midnight I pulled into an empty parking lot and made my way inside to be greeted by an extremely friendly staff member sliding fresh trays of doughnuts into the case. I ordered my assorted dozen and snuck one out of the box on the way home. Overall I gave a 3 star review as the donuts are usually very good, but a little pricey, especially for a "premium" donut like a fancy long john or fritter, and the few times I have gone my timing is always bad regarding selection / availability. On that note, I arrived just before 10am on a weekday, and there were no fritters. So instead of my favorite, I picked some others, one being a jelly donut; however, I was given a creme filled white iced donut instead of the white iced jelly donut I ordered. As I always tell my wife when picking our own donuts from the case at Schnucks, check the color where the hole is so you don't grab the wrong one. May have to go to my local Schnucks this weekend to get that jelly donut I was looking forward to! read more

Olde Towne Donuts is amazing. First off, Fenton doesn't have much in way of local. Olde Towne is located in "Old Fenton" right below the infamous Gravois Bluffs (AKA every massive store known to man). The building itself is as discreet as the location. It's in the corner of the strip mall and simply reads, "D O N U T S" displayed in small generic letters. We originally stopped by for Viviano's which is closed on Sundays and saw the D O N U T S sign. It made the trip worth it despite the let-down. It looks like your basic donut shop inside with no frills whatsoever. It does have seating which is a plus but I realized there was much more than meets the eye when I saw it's open 24 hours on Saturday/Sunday. How amazing is that? Now, to the point. The donuts are incredible. They're fresh, flavorful, moist, and the perfect texture. They have one of the best cake donuts I've ever had. Not too dense or dry. The toppings and glazes were tasty and not over the top. They had traditional flavors and fun ones like Heath and Butterfinger. The Heath one was my favorite. As for the regular, I'm a fan of chocolate long johns. Theirs were on point and extra big. All of their donuts were a pretty decent size. And to top it off, everything is the same price.
