We had some absolutely amazing sandwiches (enough for two meals) and spent way too much money on sweets, preserves, bread (we took home jalapeno bread - not hihomemade noodles, fresh vegetables (amazing flavored bell peppers and tomatoes), along with other cooking ingredients, and much more. They sell Key Lime Pie feeling in a squeeze bag. I wanted to turn that thing on end and squeeze into my mouth. Reminded me of the old I Love Lucy show. There is a Railroad Museum near the high school football field but it wasn't open. read more

This establishment will transport you back in time: friendly staff that goes out of their way and delicious food that's worth leaving the highway. We all had sandwiches on delicious, fresh-baked bread. Fried pies are among the best in TX- the peach had a light crust and perfectly spiced filling with plenty of fruit. Surprising selection of grocery and specialty items will encourage you to grab a basket and shop while they make your sandwich in the back. The cashier was so sweet: personally walked us to the back to explain the process and the ladies preparing the sandwiches clarified where we didn't provide enough detail. The sandwich's here are AMAZING! Any time I'm in itasca will stop to get one. They also have other things in the store to buy like coffee, chips, cookies, and pies. They also offer a sugar free selection of goods which is great! The chocolate chip cookies are one of my favorites! The sandwiches though are the best part. Worth stopping by for sure! The BEST pastrami sandwich ever!!! My wife and I decided to stop by this little town just off of I-35W On our way from Ft. Worth to San Antonio, ... Holy cow! A place like no other! As soon as you walk into this small establishment you'll find Amish folks working there with shelves of fresh baked bread and deserts, about a dozen different fried fruit and pecan pies (many with no sugar added), various hard to find spices, homemade snacks, candies, nut mixes, local honey, exotic chips and other food items, all mostly organic and fresh. They have a sitting area with a small deli that you can make sandwiches to order. I asked for pastrami with swish cheese, banana peppers on cheddar-jalapeno bread with all the fixins... one of the BEST sandwiches I've ever had!!! And it was a huge sandwich under $7 and was oh my God delicious! I'm definitely making this place one of my regular stops. Worth taking a special trip to on a weekend. read more

We were driving 70 miles to a wedding and decided to stop there for sandwiches and breads cookies etc. Got to the counter at 3:45 and they refused to make sandwiches for us. The owner got real snooty about it. We put everything back and will never go back again. We went by there a few times a year since it is out of the way but never again. They we obviously more concerned about going home than taking care of us. Don't advertise your hours until 4:00 pm if you don't want to serve people who drove fifty miles to get there. read more

Heard about it from friends... and its all true! Wow... my better half said the Whoppie Pies were took her back to her childhood and the fired pies were outstanding. Better still she found the had sweet Lebanon Bologna to rival the best.....Mmmmmmm sweet and smokie wonderfulness. Sammie were made of cloud bread (that soft) and packed full of meats and veggies of your choice and we had the taco soup that was outstanding as well. Worth the drive and all of the stars. But the deli in the back takes the cake! You pencil your order...$6.99 for a 6 inch sub that comes out looking like a 10 inch sub on steroids! I ordered a roast beef, ham and turkey on white...so absolutely fresh and delicious!! Can't believe I'm this excited over a sub. Husband had a corned beef on cheese jalapeño bread...equity generous and yummy. We both have half a sandwich left. Amish centered and employees were super nice and quick to please. What a hidden gem. Our daughter was the one that suggested we check out this place on our trip to Ft Worth from Round Rock. We loved the little store with fresh baked good and the deli. The sandwich's were huge and delish on thinly sliced jalapeño cheese bread. Purchased peanut butter cookies and stickie buns to take with us.
