I drove an hour to Old York Cellars with my GF today because it got great reviews here on Yelp. Sad to say, our experience was less than ideal. First and foremost, the quality of the wine was subpar at best. Granted, this is New Jersey and I would never expect to find great wine here, but still, I was hoping to taste something I could be happy to bring home with me. But no. We walked out empty handed. Specific cons: The wine tasting price is reasonable but they do charge for you to bring a glass home with you. Most other wine tastings I have been to, they give you a complimentary glass. We visited on a Saturday afternoon in early Fall and it was very busy. It's not a big room but there is a bar where (if it was run better), the employees could give each customer interesting notes on their wines and wine-making process. I feel that, despite the crowd, they still could have accommodated a little knowledge. Sadly, all we were given was the wine. The wine samples (6 different wines for $5) were incredibly small. At a wine tasting, you expect small glasses, but I felt that these were even smaller than what one should expect. With the exception of the Pinot Grigio, I thought none of the wines I tried were anything worth writing about. The GF felt the same. I feel bad because the Pinot Gris was the first wine I tried and my immediate reaction was "OK, not bad! Not bad at all! Bring on the rest!" But everything else paled in comparison. And I'm more of a red guy anyway so saying the Pinot Grigio was pleasant probably isn't coming from the best source here. I tried 4 reds after that and they were all, sadly, very disappointing. I wish I could say that the staff was as attentive as they could be, given the crowd. But they weren't. The one woman who started us out was much older and seemed a little flustered as she was serving. At one point, she didn't even remember who we were or that she had seen us already. There was also a much younger, wet-behind-the-ears 20 something kid who was running around behind the bar with a great sense of purpose but no real charm or knowledge. He seemed to only be concerned with pouring and didn't much care to attend to any customers' concerns. However, there was a middle aged woman who was very nice and a middle aged man (possibly the owner) who I wish we had near us. He probably would have had a lot to tell us. Bottom Line - We didn't like the wine. And please don't think I'm any kind of connoisseur. Listen, I'm Irish. I'll drink anything. Yet I walked out of here sad and sorry we listened to all the rave Yelp reviews. read more

I was visiting New Hope so thought I would check out old york cellars; as we have been visiting various wineries in NJ. Sadly today was just not a good day to do that; which is really unfortunate since the tasting room and setting is really lovely . As we entered the tasting room there was a line to the door , thinking that the line was to pay for tasting we waited in line. After several minutes it seemed to me that the line was to pay for something else, so I got out of line and got the attention of one of the servers and I told her that i would be interested in a tasting so she gave me the tasting sheet and told me how much and walked away. No greeting, nothing... As I waited, there was a large loud crowd on the deck that had obviously been drinking and now were drunk. One of the servers seemed to be catering to the group, and IMHO.. should have stopped serving them.. even if they were not driving. After waiting several more minutes another server acknowledged us and told us he would be right with us. clearly the servers were inexperienced and overwhelmed as a bus group had just finished their tasting. After listening to the drunk crowd and waiting to be served for another 5 minutes we decided to leave. Very disappointing. Clearly this is where experienced wine servers would have made a difference, acknowledging customers as they came in, addressing the loud drunk crowd, and starting us off in our tasting as the guest next to us were deciding on what they wanted to buy. Granted our experience may have been different if they were not busy,as others have noted in their reviews but this was not even peak season and frankly an average non holiday Saturday. They should have been able to deal with the crowd. read more

Went for yoga class, Toni then instructor was knowledgable and friendly. The buildings are nice and landscape views are great. The staff, though, is terrible. How it went: We approached the counter and when we acknowledged being part of yoga class, we were told to stand in the corner near the restroom. After being asked if we had payed, the staff member served us about a tablespoon of wine, and walked away after he gave a detailed explanation, consisting of the name of the wine and eventually not even that. Before we viewed the rest of the shop, we were interrogated by another employee who insisted on being proof that we had paid, despite the email confirmation I had received the day before that states "You are not required to present a ticket." After convincing him again, that yes, we had paid, we visited a beekeeper and sampled honey and mead, though we had to negotiate for a glass from the bar. We ended up purchasing a jar of honey, the bartender yelled across the rom to ask if we had paid. For the remainder of the visit, we were were ignored by the bartenders who openly discussed their opinions of their customers. I will not return and would not recommend anyone visit unless you like being condescended towards like you are a pickpocket. The yoga, however, was very enjoyable. read more

We threw my sister in law's bridal shower at OYC a few months ago and had a wonderful experience. Those that attended continue to rave about the gorgeous scenery, delicious wine and unique location still today. Most importantly, my SIL loved that her shower was at this beautiful winery and had the best time. We used the Vista room - which the staff help set up for us with tables/chairs and other tables for food/gifts. We brought in our own decor, food and non-alcoholic beverages (water and iced tea). It was a gorgeous sunny day, so we really lucked out and were able to take advantage of the gorgeous views through the windows. The staff also set up tables and umbrellas on the deck overlooking the gorgeous vineyard that we were able to use as the weather was really perfect. We were able to get some gorgeous photos as well with the best scenery. Nicole helped set me up with all the details and contract information. She was really patient and offered any advice/ideas that I needed. The staff that served wine for us that day was incredibly helpful and sweet. She even helped start our coffee pot when it was time -without even having to ask (nor did I expect her to do so!). I believe she truly went above and beyond and I wish I had remembered her name! She truly helped make our experience wonderful. I would highly recommend the winery as a location for a shower or party. The vista room can accommodate up to 80 guests I think it was - we had only 40 and the room did not feel too big; it was perfect. Thank you to the staff for making this special event wonderful. My wife and I had a really nice time here today. This was our last stop on a day trip to the vineyards in the area. The gentleman that served us our wines during the tasting was very knowledgeable and really seemed to care about his customers experience there. The wines were very good. The grounds were very nice. Some of the best we have seen. After the tasting we bought a glass of wine and went outside to enjoy it with some cheeses, fruits and meats we had brought with us. Nice beautiful winery. Tasting room wasnt that big but nicely decorated. Staffs are very friendly and attentive during tasting. They have regular tasting, cheese pairing and chocolate paring. I tried few wines with regular tasting, 2011 Sweet Riesling was my favorite($17). It's good dessert wine which can go with fruits. 2010 Blush($13) was good also, its perfect sweet summer wine, good to pair with salads. Syrah was decent. When it breath enough, boldness of Syrah came out but still smooth. Other wines didnt work for me. Last June my fiance and I stumbled across this winery on our drive home from a wedding, we stopped in for a tasting and 1 year later we continue to go back. The patio area that looks out over the vineyard is absolutely gorgeous and it is easy to forget that you are in NJ it feels more like Nappa. My fiance is absolutely in love with their Cabarnet and we love to take the trip their with our dog and enjoy a glass outside. Drive from Hoboken is less than an hour and a half and it is always a great escape from the hustle and bustle. Strongly recommend becoming a member it pays for itself if you are going to go up several times a year like us! In terms of local wineries it is the best we have ever been to so 5 stars! read more

In a normal world, this is a wonderful venue and experience. In a Covid world, it is a fantastic getaway. We had a table reserved for two hours and used an app to order taster flights, glasses of wine and bottles ( also to be used for snacks and food, although we brought our own picnic). On Sunday there was a band playing at a volume that was pleasant but didn't take away from conversation or from the wonderful scenic view. Without covid , masks and the app, I suspect there would be a little more banter with the server about the wine. Came here with a Groupon for a wine and chocolate pairing. It was pretty busy with lots of people doing the same as us. The tasting room was clean but seemed like they were going for more of a modern feel which to me felt out of place for a winery. The staff was nice but they didn't take any time out to describe the wines or give us any background about the winery itself. I was not impressed by any of the wines either...I enjoyed the chocolate more. We didn't leave with any bottles which is abnormal for us. There was also a busload of people there which was fine but the few inexperienced staff they had working were inept and overwhelmed. One of the best wineries I've visited for a few reasons and not just because of the wine (they have some great ones!). They have really set up a beautiful and inviting atmosphere. On Friday nights in the summer you can come and buy a bottle (or two) and enjoy live music. You can even bring some snacks from home or buy food from whatever food truck has come by for the night. It's a great relaxing night out or a great way to start the night before heading out to dinner somewhere else. I even got engaged here on a wine and music night! I am more partial to the red wines here, namely the Malbec and the stagecoach red. Last year I enjoyed the cab though. It's nice to taste the difference in the grapes from year to year. The winery does seasonal events and festivals where vendors camp out and you can even make your own custom labels for wine that you buy. You and enjoy a tour of the vineyard and even pick the brains of the friendly staff and winemaker. It's a great event to get a group of friends together to do something new! You certainly won't be disappointed with a trip here! read more

My friend and I visited Old York Cellars for a wine and chocolate tasting on a Saturday afternoon after I purchased the Groupon for 2 tastings with souvenir glasses. We were both new to vineyards and wine tastings in general and weren't really sure what to expect. We arrived around 1ish and there weren't really any paved parking spots left, so I invented one on the grass. The vineyard is picturesque and relaxing- we both took a couple of minutes to snap a few pics and take it all in before we headed into the gift shop/tasting area. The tasting bar was filled with a couple of groups and we paced around the gift shop for only a couple of minutes before Tim welcomed us over and got us started. We were given a sheet with descriptions of the wines and what chocolate went well with them. We checked off a few different wines hapharzardly (we're newbies) and Tim provided us with direction once we got started. He was really patient and answered our silly questions, including my friend's "where are the grapes?" After over half an hour of trying different rieslings, merlot, blush, blackberry and others we learned a lot and I ended up buying a bottle of the Blush (light and sweet- drinking it right now as a matter of fact as I write this) and my friend bought the Blackberry- a tart-sweet dessert wine that would be great drizzed on some ice cream or a pound cake. By the time we left it was pretty busy in there with a line to do the tastings. This can most likely be attributed to the Groupon nearing its expiration. To avoid crowds, I would recommend going around noon when the tastings begin. I would recommend visiting to anyone interested in learning more about wines. It is only an hour away from Union County and I felt like I was in California. I will definitely go back for another fun afternoon and look forward to their upcoming events or just buying a bottle and sitting out on the patio and enjoying the scenery. read more

Some of their staff members are EXTREMELY rude to their customers. One particular lady made my friends and I feel singled out among everyone else there. She forced us outside after trying to get a glass of wine inside the winery, after we had done the tasting. The trailer outside did not have two of the wines my friends were interested in and the gentleman did not want to open the bottle of wine I was interested in, so we had to go back inside anyway. When we came back in the winery to purchase a bottle, the woman shouted at us across the winery to see if we were buying our bottles for there or to go. I've never felt so disrespected at a place before by someone. However, we did our tasting with Raymond and he was a joy and made our experience so fun and lovely. We ended up going the day of a festival! SURPRISE - it was so fun! $15 for entry to it (which had free samples, petting zoo, hay ride, music, dancing, etc.) and 6 tickets for wine tasting. The dessert wines were super delectable along with the other reds on their list. We also had chocolate shot (a shot glass made of chocolate with port red inside), it was an interesting taste but still really good. To top of the day, I got a glass of Honey Sangria - it was SO GOOD - so smooth and refreshing. The sample people were all so nice and were selling home spices. Be careful with your car because the parking is on rocks or on their hilly vineyard (in the back) so make sure to bring a car that can handle that! read more

Its not awful, but just keep that in mind. It's a fun wekend afternoon. I am always impressed at just how hard the staff at Old York work to make its guests and Vintners club members feel at home. Jersey Fest this past weekend was amazing. I feel so lucky to live close by and to enjoy the people and the property on lazy summer weekdays as well as during their events. Parking was limited and somewhat improvised (in grass) however we found space. The tasting room was very nicely decorated, clean and spacious. My three girlfriends and I were each given a list of wines and were asked to select six wines EACH to taste with a chocolate pairing. After our tasting we were able to purchase a pitcher of sangria to enjoy out on the grounds at the tables set up for visitors. The tour of the vineyard was quite interesting, though we cut out early because the room where the fermenting takes place was very hot. Took hubby here couple of weeks ago. The fall weather was perfect. They sell small bag of cheese and crackers with a cheese knife and little cutting board. We sat outside in the nice fall weather, bought some raw honey, walked around took pictures. We were for a fundraiser. Hey! They have happy hours in the afternoon on weekends. How great is that? A great surprise in the middle of New Jersey. Family owned and renovated in the past 5 years. We got a chance to talk with the parents of the owner. Zina was so much fun. The winery has a good selection. The wine tasting with chocolate is very casual. The only drawback is that the wine tasting servings are a little small. Especially if doing a pairing with chocolate. Great local wine experience! Friendly service and a beautiful countryside spot was perfect for our Sunday afternoon. There's a small but lovely patio and some extra picnic tables for byo-food closer to the vines. They also produce their own (delicious) honey and the beekeeper gives tours which I hope to return and do! A good value - a tasting of 6 wines was $7, took home some of our favorites. 5 stars - hands down. I came with friends on a beautiful fall day, and we were only the 2nd group to arrive around noon so it wasn't busy yet. We had our tasting with Tim and he was really friendly and knowledgeable about each of the wines. The wines we tried were really good, but it doesn't take a lot to please me when it comes to wine. It was also the vineyard's 5 year anniversary weekend, so tastings were $5 and there were some other special promotions going on. The property is gorgeous and the tasting room is really beautiful as well. There was only outdoor seating, so it was pretty frigid, but we knew that going in so we dressed warmly. Highly recommended a visit. This is the NJ people should see so we stop getting such a bad rep. read more
