Gingerbread Stuffed French Toast Need I say more....? I do. The owner of this gem in the woods is an absolute delight. She was our waitress and the other staff working were also helping with orders. They were all just a delight to be around. The food was homemade and felt like a summer breakfast with your grandma cooking for you. Lots of fresh treats to eat in or take to go. The little cottage like restaurant was beautifully decorated and quite interesting. The people sitting around were friendly talking with one another's tables about the food. Do not pass this by. Even if you're not hungry passing by, stop in and you will be.
Fabulous service. Great home style cooking. Yummy bakery. My sister asked if they had open faced hot roast beef sandwiches ( was not on menu.) server smiled and said "we can make it for you!" I tried the clam chowder and was impressed. Highly recommend stopping as you travel on hwy 126. And to top it off the place has lots of interesting folk art!
We have eaten here often over the years. This time was not one of our better meals and it seems to have been declining a bit each time. The service is always stellar! The owner and her crew are so friendly and really go above and beyond to make sure you have a great meal and experience. There were 4 of us in our party. We all had a burger or sandwich type of meal. I had the Rueben and Cajun Tots. I will say the Reuben was excellent. The Cajun tots were very bland. My granddaughter had a bacon cheeseburger. Two bites in and a very long hair. They immediately took it back and made her a fresh one. That was very appreciative. This was the disappointment, there were flies everywhere inside. Not just a few, but all over the place and it made it hard to focus and enjoy our meal. The second part was our meal for 4 burgers /sandwich and 2 sodas was well over $80.00. I know we are in inflation times....but . We will go again, it's our go to when over that way, but this experience was not a good one.
Carol and her crew are amazing! She indulged us with not only delicious food, her kindness but also brought us the albums of the area. I've been reading a book about a flower farm in Mapleton during the 1930's to early 1970's called To a Daffodil by Ione Reed and wanted to research the area. She had the whole place warm and filled with Christmas cheer. My sister and I always pick a place to visit to celebrate Moms birthday since she passed and Carol made it so very wonderful!
We entered and were greeted with a welcoming smile and a hello. We were promptly seated and drinks arrived within moments. There is live music with a guitarist who is singing quite well and the whole atmosphere is one of a jovial boisterous family friendly establishment. Our orders were taken and the food was in such a generous amount as to be almost overwhelming. The staff are impeccably polite and caring. The owner is also very present and is very active in caring for customers needs and seeing that everything is made right and that customers are happy. This enthusiastic energy from the owner and staff have ensured that we will come back.
Service with a personal touch, owner (and daughter of the original owners) sat us. She took the time to explain some of the stores history and traditions. Solid breakfast with well fried eggs, good gravy and a giant chicken fried steak. The restaurant and store is a definite must stop, with its quirky decorations and some top notch gingerbread.
I love the quaint and charming feel of the Old World Gingerbread Village and the ladies who own this restaurant are simply the best! I've never had the time to have a meal but often stop in for a quick hello and a few goodies for the road as I drive between Coos Bay and Eugene. Their chocolate chip cookies and peanut butter cookies are the best! It is so very obvious to me that they love their community and give their all every single day for their guests. They bring old world charm and magic to Mapleton!
For years we have been passing this place on our way to the coast but it's always the wrong day or too late in the day. We recently stopped by and glad that we finally did. Not sure what to expect but the place was full of old world charm. Upon entering you are immediately faced with a huge selection of delicious pastries and cookies. We came here for breakfast and it didn't disappoint. Although the food isn't out of this world, it has the satisfying taste of great home cooking that you would expect. The portions are big so make sure to have big appetite with you. Also worth asking for the gravy, it's delicious! And do save some space for the delicious gingerbread pancakes, it's worth it! Service was good, now remember this is a small family operation so don't expect lots of servers, but it was quick and food came quickly. The owner (I assume )is very nice and really made us feel welcomed , even sharing an old photo album of old photos of her family who were very adventurous. They also give guests an opportunity to leave some memories behind by drawing or writing a note on a painted stone that they put out all around the building, what a great way to engage guest. This place definitely harkens to an era that is long gone, so it's great to be able to experience it. An overall great experience that I highly recommend. Make sure to stop by the next time you're on your way out the coast of heading back inland. Oh and don't forget to grab a few cookies for the road!
Friendly staff & super cute old restaurant. When you walk in you definitely feel the love. The food was good too. I had an omelet with veggies added avocado. It was good not the best I have ever had but good. My mom had a pancake but the first one she had was not done and had raw batter in the middle. Our server took it immediately and made her another one. The owner really makes it so you want to come back. I will definitely come back and bring my kids with me. After our meal we were brought rocks to decorate and put on the property somewhere so you can leave a lasting memory.
A step back in time.... If you haven't been here You need to experience it! Our family has memories going back 40+ yrs. The business owner is the most kind, genuine, heartfelt person you'll meet. She gave us a yummy cinnamon roll to go because she knew we were traveling. The food is really good and the warm fresh gingerbread is delicious. Pictured below is Chicken Fried Steak, Stuffed French Toast with blackberry compote and Cinnamon Bun.
My partner and I drive by here often and today we had time to stop..WE ARE ARE SO HAPPY WE DID! The entire staff was so amazing; one woman even took a picture of us along with our dog in one of their little gingerbread photo cut-outs! (Might be our queer Christmas card this year hahah) Thanks Carol and staff for a great experience. Will return for Reubens, fried pickles, gingerbread and more in the near future!
So sad this is the last weekend that this restaurant will be open. They will still have an online bakery. I chose to have their patty melt along with their clam chowder. Since it was their last day, they gave me a complementary peanut butter cookie. The servers were wonderful and a little bit carried because there were quite a few people in the restaurant. After a nice little early lunch, I stopped at the bakery area and got a dozen of their wonderful gingerbread cookies and one macaroon because they're so delicious. I can't have more than one! read more

Gingerbread village is an icon in Eugene to Florence travel. In fact, seeing the gingerbread village means we are almost to grandmas house. When we visited this time, of course we had to stop! But we had arrived on a Wednesday and they are closed tue/wed, still recovering from the small business effects of COVID. So, we went the next day! The owner asked us if we had been there before, and being a brickerville resident (heading out of mapleton towards swisshome (best place in the world)) of COURSE i had eaten at gingerbread village! They had sponsored our 1st grade baseball team when we were the champions! I still have my t-shirt, and I'm now 43. Anywayyyyssss I'm a big fan of gingerbread village. The owner was extremely apologetic. She said they had fallen on hard times with employees moving away and recovering from Covid- so they have had to change their restaurant experience. It is now serving a very nice salad bar that has a great selection of fresh veggies and lots of unexpected yummy extras- and a build your own pizza option, as well as burgers and a selection of soups, a few other things I can't remember. They had house fried fresh chips that were still hot. Very yummy. Two of my kids got the chicken and dumplings soup, and they both ate it all. My son said it was the best he has eaten. My husband had the burger, and hot tea. My older daughter had fresh chips because she's picky but then also ate some watermelon. I had the salad bar and I was impressed with the choices. There was a family there eating the custom pizzas, the kids were having fun designing their own pizzas. There's lots of room outside to run around. The owner gave my kids a large rock and paint pens to decorate in our own way to place in a collection of travelers rocks. They also have several picture opportunities in the woods surrounding, like the ones I got of my son and gingerbread and our dog, and the Bigfoot giving finger hearts LOLZ. If you stop there, try yo spot him and post a pic. I'm sad I didn't get more pics. On our way back I'll get some more. Input pics of Munsel Lake in Florence. we caught 12 trout in about 3 hours on my dad's boat. It is also very close to the ocean. It is the warmest lake I have ever visited. We would always go to the ocean and then go to munsel lake to get the sand off, and then go back home to Mapleton. I know this has nothing to do with gingerbread village, but if you're on a road trip, maybe you'll care. You need a fishing license to fish, but they sell them online and in stores. We got ours at bimart (we don't have bimart membership, they didn't care) my son also got a mini pole there. The license was 23.00 for one day for adults. Kids 12-17 is 10.00. 12 and under don't need a license. If you are over there in Florence anyway, Darlingtonia is up the street, it's a carnivorous plant nature reserve. It's easy walking and really cool. There's go karts and mini golf nearby too. And dunebuggy rental stuff. Gingerbread village also had a lot of souvenirs and items for purchase for the local high school art program. I moved away before I made it to high school at mapleton. But I am an artist so I love supporting young artists and I love mapleton. Some of the ambiance- the plates- are still there, a lot of them anyway. The owner said that the owner before her sold most of them at a yard sale type sale. When she bought the place and re-named it "old world" gingerbread village, she vowed to not sell any more of them. She now has her globe collection scattered through the restaurant. It's pretty cool. The bouncy ball machines aren't there!! Bummer! Haha. Don't forget the gingerbread!! Served us a huge chunk of fresh gingerbread, warm, and melting a scoop of delicious vanilla ice cream. We were so full we had to take it to go. We were passing through again about a week later to go to our air BnB in yachats (there's a lady named Jana that has a spot RIGHT at bob beach, the loft is CRAZY CHEAP) (the first time we were there, we were staying at an air BnB in BRICKERVILLE can you believe it? Two houses away from where I grew up. Grandmas house) So we were passing again and my husband INSISTED on more gingerbread and yes.... Omg. Yes. Right out of the oven, a box to go stuffed with gingerbread. We were eating fists full of gingerbread down the coast. Sooooo good. So, I may be biased, but my husband is definitely not. He wants to stop for more on the way back to Eugene before we have to return to where we currently call home, San Diego... but my heart will always lie in Mapleton. read more

was a experience, im not sure if i would go there again, as food was in my opinion nothing exceptional . Great service though maybe too much even haha. I would go back if there was a reason IE, stellar food. Although i dont know if this is what the restaurant is intending. Like a dennys but more family read more

Stopped here for lunch. They were serving both breakfast as well as lunch (around 12:00). Portions were absolutely insanely huge! I had a gingerbread stuffed French toast, with lemon curd, and whipped cream on the side. I think even the half portion that I ordered would be enough for 2 meals at least! Very sweet, good lemon flavor, nice crispy outside with the gingerbread crust, cream cheese filling (also sweet). All in all enough to leave me in a diabetic stupor of sugary pleasure. My friend had a turkey club and her sandwich was also huge! With plenty of bacon, tomato, turkey, cheese and lettuce. And tator tots on the side. Service was a little slow and a tad inattentive but trust me, if you are hungry, this is the place to pig out!! Plenty of parking, tables inside and out. Cute decor. Worth a stop to/from Florence on the coast. read more

Such an adorable shop!!! The staff is so sweet!!! I love the gingerbread and the pigs even if I'm not allowed to pet them. It's a family business with clearly a lot of love and passion. Carol & Laurie are great! We even looked at the family album. Definitely stop here and eat!!!! read more

My experience here today completely overwrites my previous review! I highly recommend OWGV and strongly recommend you eat there whenever you can. We drove 30 miles round trip to eat here and it was well worth it. These folks are a hard-working family that has completely revised their business model in response to COVID. They aren't whining about how health mandates have stolen their livelihood. They found new (to them) ways to safely serve their customers and they are working hard to stay in business. Word-of-mouth can have a huge impact, so please patronize OWGV and spread the word! We'd heard that OWGV had added outdoor dining and drive-thru in response to COVID and decided to give the drive-thru a go. The outdoor seating looking really nice, too. Almost immediately a woman, wearing a mask, greeted us cheerfully and quickly took our order. Shortly thereafter she delivered our two lunches, carefully boxed and including condiments, napkins, and cutlery. She even included a free dessert gingerbread cookie! Our meals were delicious. We both had the 2-piece cod with fries and cole slaw. The fish and chips were hot and fresh (you could tell it had NOT been sitting in a warmer) and the slaw was chilled. The fish was excellent -- battered, but not excessively, and it was cooked through (no gummy, gooey, undercooked layer of batter beneath the crispy exterior). That, along with the speed of delivery, says they have a fry cook who knows what they are doing. The hand-cut fries were perfectly cooked and not at all greasy. The slaw was fresh and crisp and really tasty. read more

We noticed this restaurant on our way into Florence and decided we should stop in on our way home. So glad we did! The waitress was sweet. The food was fantastic. I had the halibut fish and chips. It was cooked to perfection! I tend to be very picky when ordering halibut. I was impressed! The house made tartar and coleslaw were on point. My husband ordered the Irish hash. Best he has ever had, he says! My son ordered French toast. The home made bread made the French toast amazing! Happy bellies for sure! We grabbed some fresh gingerbread to-go too!
