Finally! I've been in search for a breakfast spot that has "Texas size" portions with value for the dollar and Old West Cafe has delivered! Ok, so not the best parking lot. If you're driving there for the first time aim to park behind the building where it's less congested. Inside has tables/ booths and the staff moves tables around constantly to accommodate party sizes. It's a loud restaurant with people moving up and down the floor space so keep that in mind for elderly patrons or those needing assistance. The menu has a great hearty variety and everything I saw passing me by looked delicious, especially the French toast. Our meals were full plate portions which excites me! I have a hard time paying for an expensive breakfast because I know how much a dozen eggs and a potato cost. Breakfast is cheaper to make so I'm always looking for value. You will get your value at Old West for sure and everything we ate was cooked perfectly. The only area for improvement is with the wait staff and coffee. The coffee was terrible. I wondered if we just got the last of a burnt pot but I couldn't get a refill/ fresh cup as our server was no where to be found. It took 10 minutes to order at the beginning of our dinning experience and another 10 minutes at the end to get our check after asking twice (checks are electronic and you pay at the table which is nice). Recommend having a floater to clear tables, replenish coffee and free up time for the wait staff to take orders/ cash us out in a timely manner. read more

Cool, off the beaten trail Cafe with an old country western feel. We stumbled upon it through Yelp and were attracted to their great reviews. We decided to check it out after a kid's birthday party in Southlake and enjoyed it a lot! We were seated quickly within a few minutes and had a great and efficient server. It was packed on a Saturday around noon. Enjoyed their omelets, side of hash browns and biscuits. Very delicious and perfect because we were hungry!! Large portions of food. Second of all, the flavors were amazing! I've never had pancakes as good as this place. Their lemon-blueberry pancakes are a MUST try! Their portions are a bit ridiculous (in a good way)! Now I know why this place has such long lines! They offer huge portions and prompt service, just what you need to start your day off right. Glad I finally made it, and verified all I've read. Decor-old country diner, they nailed the Old West look for sure. It's bigger then it looks from the outside. Nothing incredibly nice or extraordinary, but clean and ample space. Service-surprisingly fast, even for as busy as they are, that's really nice. Food-huge portions, but not as favorable as I would've hoped. I was disappointed with the biscuits and gravy, it was just too greasy and too peppery and not much flavor. Migas breakfast plate was good, I've had better in Texas, but it was better then biscuits and gravy. If we hadn't ordered the banana pancakes, I would've given this place 3 stars. The pancakes came in very clutch for this place and got them an extra star. Pancake was fluffy and very subtle but flavorful banana, and it was topped with sugar/cinnamon pecans that just worked very well together. Went on a Sunday around 10am, waited 30 min for a table and another 15-20 min for food. Our server was great! We started ordering and she recognized what we ordered was cheaper under a different item. I love when servers have your back! Because the menu is a bit overwhelming. You can order eggs, pancakes, omelets etc and add regular sides or premium sides. So basically, no matter what you choose, it will average to $12-$15 a plate for eggs, meat, hash browns and pancakes or bread. The pancakes are massive like two regular sized pancakes in one giant pancake. Skip the additional cost for premium side pancake and share one with someone else! The food itself was just OK. Not a ton of flavor for the basic breakfast yet the prices were high. I will come back for a specialty item and update my review then. For now, basic breakfast items gets 3 stars. read more

I mean plenty of food. The pancakes are the size of your face or larger. I ordered the six shooter which is basically biscuits covered with chicken fried steak covered with gravy topped with eggs. I am very disappointed in this visit. Everyone was very nice, friendly and professional. No issue with the staff at all. Our problem, all of the food, except the cinnamon roll pancakes was cold, room temperature. All of it. The restaurant was super busy, super packed with 45 minutes to an hour long wait, so the kitchen should have been popping. How can we get all cold dishes unless it just sat and sat under the light waiting on the waiters to bring it out. This restaurant need to invest in runners. Staff that only bring the dishes out once it is prepared. I assume our food was prepared waiting on those special pancakes, since they were hot while our dishes got cold. I took the bulk of my food to go. Others ate a little of their dishes and just left it. I was so excited to come here while I was in town. But oh well. read more

Beware the highly rated restaurant in a resort town. Most tourists who frequent these places have poor taste in food as evident by their affinity for crappy chain restaurants. Where to start? No one was there at the host stand to greet us, actually one of the servers had to yell into the kitchen to have someone seat us. Even after that, it took about a minute before anyone appeared to lead us to our booth. As we were sat down, a server promptly took our drink orders. Then we ordered our meals. I ordered a Bandit meal and everything about the meal, except for the cinnamon roll, was cold, cold, cold. I got the servers' attention and told her about the cold food. I also said I'd be fine with the kitchen just heating up my food. The server said she would have the kitchen remake my breakfast. So, the second plate comes back after a few minutes. The biscuit with sausage gravy was steaming, good sign. The eggs and smoked sausage were cold...again. Even though the sausage was cooked on a griddle, it was fridge cold in the middle. How is that possible? I told our server again and she had the manager remove the cost of our meal from our bill. I don't know if we just visited this place on an off day or if this is what the place is normally like. If this is the norm, I bet the kitchen wastes a lot of food, not good for the owners. Always super busy. I have been burned by Old West once or twice but I think I learned the trick. They do sweet VERY well. Savory seems to be the challenge. So get the French toasts. They're AMAZING. They're breaded and always have such great flavors going for them. The pancakes- Chefs Kiss. Anything savory style? It might leave you wanting a little more. Friendly service and our food came out fast as we were one of the 2 tables seated. Next time I will try the chicken fried CHICKEN. Really great and a LOT of food! Few minor bumps in the road but they are so busy. Only reason lost a star. I ordered stuffed French toast meal and it had strawberries. Purée and whipped cream and powdered sugar. They brought to me with no powder sugar or whipped cream. No purée. And ordered has browns extra crispy which they were not. One order was. But both were to be. Had to return those items to be fixed and look else was great. The French toast is super rich and I couldn't finish but yummy! We frequent the Denton location and decided to try this location here in Grapevine. The atmosphere is very similar and the decor is the same however they do not have a coffee bar at this location which I was disappointed but no big deal hopefully they can add in the future. We pretty much order the same thing every time so ordered the Blacksmith omelet first thing we noticed is it was substantially smaller and the meat notably the sausage was prepared different - crumbled instead of large cubes .. it was still tasty but I'm afraid the DENTON location takes the cake on plate presentation and portion size. Old West will always be my favorite though no matter the location - and the place is packed and always has a small wait so clearly they are a town favorite!! This is a basic diner style breakfast. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't impressive either. It's kind of expensive for what you get. Would go three stars if we even had friendly service but instead we had Kim H who came to our table with an attitude, was not helpful with our questions, and seemed to hold a grudge against our dissatisfaction for the remainder of the meal. The menu has several items that list French Toast, and then there is a section of the menu listing all the options of French Toast. it's pretty overwhelming for a first time diner. All my wife wanted was Strawberries with French Toast. Kim H only offered up-charges to add things that weren't listed where as there would be no up-charge for things listed that come with much more than strawberries. Kim H is a problematic person who shouldn't be waiting tables. We brought a vegan to dine with us who was willing to have some Grilled Cheese, however, according to Kim H this was on the kids menu and not acceptable for our guest to choose, regardless of the fact we had a 21 month old at the table?! What is your problem Kim H?! The opportunity for us to come here again is lost due to poor service. read more

Amazing service and food with a charming Wild West interior! We decided to try Old West for brunch since we had just arrived in DFW for work and we were starving. We were immediately greeted by a hostess and were seated right away. Our waitress was super friendly and patient with us as we perused their massive menu with so many different choices. We decided on the chicken fried steak with fried green beans and mashed potatoes with gravy and also the BLT sandwich with hash browns. Oh my goodness were the portion sizes off the charts...they were HUGE! And the chicken fried steak was so nice and crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. The fried green beans was a first for me but we finished every last one of them. The BLT sandwich was very generous too, but the hash browns too up half the plate.
