I was browsing for wood oven pizzerias in the Centerville area. My best friend lives close by and my fiancée and I were wanted to join them for lunch. I mentioned this place and she's already been and loves it. This restaurant specializes in Neapolitan style pizza. They have appetizers, sandwiches and salads. The inside is perfect for gatherings. Beer hall style. I love that you walk up, order, they give you a number and they bring it to you. The bar section is separate. They have craft beers on tap and wine. All in reasonable pricing. We ordered: Drinks: -Angeline Cabernet (medium size) -Warped Wing OSPils Pizza Pilsner Lunch: -Shroom pizza-fresh & dry aged mozzarella, forest mushrooms, garlic oil, fresh thyme, truffle oil -Apple cider pork pizza-dry mozzarella, provolone, shredded pork, caramelized onions, goat cheese crumbles, kale, house glaze, red pepper flakes, Romano Omg! We always have a great expensive at Old Scratch. Food is typically always good. I appreciate the allergy friend options, but would love to see more varieties offered or at least a here is what is safe for allergies of their toppings. Staff is always nice and kind. Finally visited the Centerville Old Scratch location and holy cow is it nice. Think pizzeria meets beer hall -- very spacious interior with lots of community style picnic seating. They have large garage type windows lining the front which provide an indoor-outdoor setting when opened. They also have a small patio. The pizza is definitely some of the best around, but don't sleep on the salads or sandwiches. Overall, Old Scratch is definitely worth the visit. read more

A couple very close friends of ours took us here for pizza and we definitely enjoyed it all. This is brick oven pizza done right for sure. We're almost jealous of how close they live to this spot. We went on Sunday for lunch and they weren't terribly busy. You order at the counter, they give you a number, and they bring your order to your table when it's ready. The place itself is very laid back and relaxed. The staff are all super friendly. Their menu is all about the pizzas but also features sandwiches, wraps, and salads. Want an adult libation? They've got a great beer selection, good list of cocktails, and a nice wine selection although not as big as the beer selection. My fiancee got the Shroom pizza and I got the apple cider pork pizza (monthly special). For our drinks, my lady got a Cabernet, and I had to try the Warped Wing OSPizza Pilsner. The wait was definitely not long and our pizzas were delicious, especially my apple cider pork pizza, because all the toppings went together so well. If you go this month, I highly recommend ordering one. My fiancee loved both pizzas too. They also have classic vanilla soft serve ice cream if you make a $1 donation to Cones for a Cause (they help a number of non-profit organizations in the Dayton area). Perfect finish to our meal. The pizza was delicious. I had the hot honey one (1st on menu). It was enough for lunch with leftovers. Also got the meatballs as a shareable. You come in and first see the food counter where you order food. After paying you get a number on a metal stand, they bring it to your table. Next you go to the beverage counter and order. Mostly it's long communal style tables and benches inside. Today was rainy and cool, but I saw a lot of outside seating for better weather. Those were the usual round metal tables that seat 4 or 5. In town on business and decided to stop in for dinner. Bell's reps were onsite handing out free swag and 3 of their beers were on tap. I sat at the bar so I could order my food and drink at one place and not have to go through the food line and drink line separately. I started off the Bell's Amber and Pimento Cheese appetizer. I really liked the hot honey drizzled over the pimento cheese. For dinner I ordered the Dayton pizza. It's covered with pepperoni, which does make it a little greasy, but still very good. Stopped by on Saturday afternoon to enjoy pizza, we couldn't decide so we crafted our own with red sauce, pepperoni, cheese, mushrooms & arugula Mom enjoyed a colter - you help yourself once you receive a cup after placing your order. I am visiting customers in the area and staying at a local hotel. I love wood fired pizza and thought I would do a help search. This came up as close and highly rated. It's very industrial looking. Big dining area that you seat yourself.order at the counter. Then sit and wait for it. You can order drinks at the bar. It's separate. I got the margarita pizza and house side salad. Both came out at the same time in about 5 mins. Salad was good and nice size. The pizza is. 6 slice all 1 size. Pizza was decent. I thought the middle could have been cooked a bit more. It was pretty floppy. The sauce is very tomato tasting. Not bad. Cheese was skimpy but you can add more parmesan to it. I did like the char on the crust just wish the middle got more cook to get the whole thing crispy. Staff was nice. I went on a Wednesday afternoon around 3:30p so not dinner time or lunch time. There were a handful of other patrons. I sat at the bar and got a cider. They had a few choices and I got to taste which is appreciated. Overall not a bad experience. Old Scratch Pizza maybe the best in Dayton (shout out to South Park Grill as a contender) I had previously visited the Old Scratch location near UD campus and loved it as well. This location has a large seating area and bar. Very busy on the weekends expect a wait for a table. My wife and I visited on a weekday for lunch just as they were opening so we got to sit at the bar had great service from the whole team. The salads and the dressings as well as their beer, wine and cocktail offerings are all solid. Large offering of drafts with several IPAs available. But the real star of this restaurant is the pizza. Baked in woodfired ovens, very thin crust, New York style. Great toppings as well. I would say a solid 8.1 on the Portnoy scale. Hot tip: if you are doing carry out to avoid the crowds they have a separate entrance in the back for pick up. read more

The Elliot is really a standard cheese pizza. The price was $ 9 each, and our soft drinks were $ 3.25 each, with free refills. The pizza was enjoyable, not the best, but very good with an excellent crust and not heavy at all. My wife is very sensitive to too much oil on the pizza, and had no problems. An easy 4.5 stars. We decided to try Old Scratch Pizza after seeing all the great reviews on Yelp--and it completely lived up to the hype! Everything was fantastic, from the fresh, tasty salads to the homemade hummus served with warm pita bread and crisp veggies. The meatballs paired with pita bread were a standout too--uniquely delicious and packed with flavor. We also ordered the Dayton pizza, topped with a generous portion of cupped pepperoni. Very family friendly. We love the cauliflower appetizer. The pizza is equally amazing! Took one star off as last time we went there, host ran up wrong order and when we tried to address it, the manager lady tried to act as if placing the initial order was our mistake and wanted to charge us more for what we had already specified to the host. This is a tough review to write because we've always liked Old Scratch, but I didn't really like the pizza I chose this time. The prosciutto and arugula pizza sounded good but was just bland, in my opinion. I think we'll stick to a pizza with red sauce next time. The caesar salad was fresh, with just enough dressing. Sodas are self serve and there is a bar with lots of brews and cocktails to choose from. There is also a soft serve machine with vanilla ice cream and cones. You trade a donation mount of your choice for a soft serve cone. I was told the donations go to help a food pantry. There really isn't service per se, but the staff will bring your food to you and get you anything you need. I love this kind of pizza crust. Came in on a recent road trip through Dayton. This was the perfect place to go with our toddlers as it is a very family-friendly restaurant. We saw many other families with little children and there are even a few games and play items for kids in the restaurant. We ordered 'The Angry Beekeeper' and then another white pie that I don't recall the name of. Both pizzas were very good and I was thoroughly impressed by how fast the pizzas came out. We had barely ordered and then sat down with our drinks when the waitstaff was coming over with the pizzas! Everything is made fresh and tasted great. We probably come here at least 3 times a month and it is always the same great flavors. If you are lookin for a Neapolitian style pizza look no further they are cooked quickly here in several brick ovens. Plenty of parking and you cannot miss the big building very easy to find. My go to everything I go 1/2 Mediterranean salad and this can easy feed 1 to 3 people. It's a twist in the original salads you would usually get they cut the olives up small where you get a little with everybite. But beware the roasted chickpeas are a bit hard and I don't want you to lose a tooth. The mix the dressing with the salad which I like because it's just the right amount and not drowning in the dressing. Also served with a warm piece of bread all for $8.00 Angry bee keeper this is a MUST I am not even joking Tomatoe sauce base with fresh mozzarella, huge fresh basil leaves, spicy salami, hot honey, and olive oil. I love this place but too many times they have messed up my order which makes me sad (last time the whole middle part of my pizza was super doughy and they really skimped on the toppings like almost nothing but cheese and I ordered a bacon chicken ranch pizza, which is usually may go to there cause it's usually fantastic. I called because I had a screaming infant in the car and was trying to get someone to help me so that I didn't have to unload my two kids and of course no one answered the phone. They never answer the phone. I don't understand how you can have a phone number to a restaurant and you don't have anybody who answers the phone like it just rings and rings and rings and then they tell you leave a voicemail and then they don't answer. I don't understand it anyways the food is good. It's very pricey, but it's very good. Usually I don't recommend taking anything to go. It's kind of one of those places where you have to eat there to enjoy it and for it to be good wait times a little long but that's OK and the restaurant itself is very nice. This was our second visit to an Old Scratch Pizza having visited the one on S Patterson previously. Nice location, great vibe and wood fired pizza which is our favorite. We ordered the Deluxe and the Mr. Scratch. We also got the applewood-bacon ranch salad which is big enough for two. The salad has a really good creamy bacon dressing that's really good. I got takeout for the first time from Old Scratch. We tried their Centerville location. It was pretty easy to find the curbside area. I had a hard time parking though since both curbside spots were occupied. So I ended up double parking. I didn't have to wait long before someone came out and asked my name. She was very friendly and retrieved our order promptly. We got two half Caesar salads, a supreme pizza, garlic butter and hot honey. It was all delicious. The salad was fantastic. It wasn't the typical salad in a bag thrown in a takeout container. It was actually a nice Caesar (with yummy homemade croutons). The pizza was great. One small complaint...I asked for no mushrooms but they were still on the pizza. The Toast App said no substitutes so I'll assume that's why they ignored my note. We went on a Friday night and were able to grab seats at the bar and had no trouble with a long wait. The layout of this place is not your typical sit down restaurant. You walk up to the counter and order, they present you with a table flag, and then you find your seats. Your food is brought out to you by the wait staff. They also have a full bar with a heavy focus on rotating drafts, but also a very fun cocktail list. I ordered the white pie and added arugula to the top. My husband ordered the shroom pizza. Both had a white base that was so garlicky and cheesy and just so delicious. We both really liked each one. The pizza was a good size, I couldn't finish mine. We each had a cocktail as well, I tried the Texas water which was excellent and he had a blood orange margarita, also good.
