a close up of a wood table
Sheryl G.

We were sent to Old Master by our contractor, neither of which I'd use again. We purchased Acacia flooring because we were told it's the hardest wood and would be best with our dogs. The floor was scratched up within the first week. I'd be okay with scratches, but they were white on dark wood. It was as if the finish was too thin. Then a month after we installed the flooring, the finish started to blister. Someone from Old Master came out and "tested" our floors with his moisture meter. We were told the finish blistered because of moisture on our slab. BTW, the moisture meter went off when the rep placed it on my perfectly dry dining room table. Needless to say, they wouldn't honor the 25-year warranty. I had a couple of planks sitting out on the edge of a planter for over a year. The finish was fine on those planks. We just wanted the damaged planks replaced but couldn't get anywhere with either Old Master or our contractor. The products sold here is substandard. I don't recommend purchasing from them. Go elsewhere where a flooring contractor knows what they're doing.

Our wood floors were last refinished 18 years ago, when we first moved into our 1958 house. While…read moremany areas had only minor wear, the area under the dining table had suffered a lot of damage, with bare wood exposed in several places. We were looking for someone to do a general buff and finish on all the hardwood, but also with a specific focus on fixing the dining area. Of the five businesses I contacted, four said they would not do a partial sand/stain, but would only redo all of the flooring, sanding and restaining everything, which would have been far more than we were planning on spending for this project. Wilmer of Better Surfaces and Services was the only one willing to work with us on what we wanted. He was very upfront about the potential issue with a visual difference between the restained dining area and the existing stained flooring, but also discussed how he would do his best to mix the new stain so that it matched as close as possible, and work on the transition area to minimize any difference. I hope the pictures show what an amazing job Wilmer and his team did. The pictures were taken at different times of day, but they are all of the dining area, which needed the most work. In fact, one of my relatives was thoroughly confused upon seeing the final result: she knew we had planned on just refinishing, but upon seeing the floor, thought they must have instead replaced the dining area with all new hardwood! In addition to the great work, Wilmer was very good about addressing all of our concerns and keeping us up to date on the work, as we had to be out of town during all of it. His employees were very conscientious about locking up our house when they were done each day (my friend let them in every morning). I still can't quite get over how beautiful and new our hardwood looks! Thanks for everything, Wilmer!

The bamboo was suffocated and it buckled and got moldy underneath and started to push my LVP floor up. At first sign of trouble I decided to find the highest rated wood floor company in Burbank for help. Robert came and instantly knew what was going on without even demoing the floor. He kindly provided reference material for me to present to my contractor to prove he was at fault. He answered questions here and there while I fought my contractor to take responsibility and fix the issue and after a quick-fix failed, it was a no brainer to me to use Robert and his team to start again and get the job done right. His crew included Jason who worked like a craftsman to surgically remove the two layers of old flooring from around the footprint of my kitchen cabinets and entire ground floor area. The challenge was to retain the clean look of our new kitchen, avoiding trim to hide gaps, even though we were removing almost an inch of flooring and replacing it with 5/8' hardwood. We opted for a moisture barrier, an additional cork layer to try to retain the same height and then a beautiful, rustic looking engineered hardwood floor. I can't tell you how happy I am with the quality of the work. Eduardo expertly cut the flooring and brought up the level of the flooring around the cabinets to exactly the same height. The transition is seamless! If you are weighing up who to use for your flooring, pick these guys, they get the job done right. We are really happy with the appearance of the floor and the final product.

Robert's team led by Carlos laced the wood back together (they had to take up a larger part of the floor because the boards didn't line up perfectly on either side of the old repair) and were able to reuse many of our existing boards to do it, you can see the new wood over by the wall in the collage. They sanded the floors down and prepared three stain samples (bottom left photo of the collage) based on colors we picked from a fan book they loaned us. The bottom right photo is the finished product and we couldn't be happier with how the floors turned out! They took great care of our home, using plastic to cover the openings to the kitchen and all vents so the dust didn't end up anywhere it shouldn't, and cleaned up the remaining dust when they finished. The stain is Nutmeg from Duraseal on red oak hardwood, with a Satin finish polyurethane sealant.

He even divided the estimate in two parts,…read morebecause I had damage to my rental condo's laminate floor in two areas from different causes: one by front entry caused by a neighbor's leak, the other by failed built-in A/C in laundry room. Other floorers lumped both areas together. It proved impossible to find a match for my old laminate, so Daniel suggested for front entry marble-patterned tiles, I found and bought tiles, laminate a close match to old laminate's color, but not its size, and transition strips. Daniel and his crew used leftover/salvaged old laminate boards to seamlessly merge old and new laminates on landing of stairs to garage, then new laminate in the laundry room, A third, poorly-glued transition strip came loose between living room and dining nook. Daniel made a special trip to install a replacement strip and spent hours getting it just right at no extra charge.

I used to dread walking upstairs, but the new hardwood actually makes the stairs much less difficult to climb!
