Tin Cup was the only spot to eat in the middle of a food desert on our way to Marfa. So, when we…read morestopped at this dusty, unassuming cafe attached to a motel, we weren't feeling all too hopeful about the food but we were hungry and wanted to sit at a table to eat and give the local fare a try. There's a covered patio with a few tables in the front and a couple large tables that could each easily fit eight people, and a small 2-top. They brought us out complimentary chips and salsa. What a nice surprise. The chips were warm and the salsa was delicious-- bright, flavorful, and with just the right amount of kick (mild heat but not too spicy; your three-year-old might not be a fan but my husband who doesn't normally like too spicy enjoyed it). I ordered my staple whenever I visit a diner/cafe for the first time-- the Patty Melt with mustard and mayo on the side (this condiment combination on the side is winning with a patty melt, btw ). They offer all the veggies with it but I just ordered mine with sautéed onion. The food took a little bit but we weren't in a hurry and when it came out it was nice and hot. My Patty Melt was served on a buttery grilled Texas Toast with a side of fries and it was oh so good. Loved the variation of Texas Toast in place of Rye bread. It was seasoned well and both classic and unique. Made with love! The fries had a good balance of crispy and soft inside. My husband and son ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger and were really happy with it. My husband said that it tasted like a "Texas Burger." Doesn't that say it all, though. The women working inside were kind and welcoming. They chatted with us and were helpful whenever we asked questions about the menu. They gave us a sweet Texas goodbye on our way out and told us to drive carefully like sweet Texas mamas do. My only critique would be that the bathroom needed some attention but, besides that, our experience was good and we wouldn't hesitate to stop in again knowing the folks are kind and will feed ya' well.

First off, the address directions via GPS were not correct, it's actually a block down from where GPS leads you... so, after circling around a couple of times, I finally found it. It was worth the effort... I had both the Mexican hot chocolate and the matcha. Very yummy, and just the energy I needed early in the morning for the drives to Big Bend NP and back to Amarillo, respectively. A friend got the yogurt and fruit and found it very filling with a side of breakfast potatoes. On both days I got a burrito. They added avocado and sour cream which gave just the right touch to an already delicious burrito. The staff was so friendly and answered questions about menu items and customizing options. The house kitty was also very friendly. The cafe is small, but there was no problem with seating early in the morning. The artwork on the walls is interesting and western in theme. Everything was warm, clean and inviting. This is definitely the place to stop when you're in the area.

The food is amazing as well as the coffee. The last two times I've been in, literally back to back, They weren't selling food items. I go in at 1:15pm to get a sandwich and they were already shutting down and cleaning the food station as well as the coffee machines. It says on their website they close at 2pm. I understand walking in at 1:55pm and asking for food that's crazy but still having 45 mins open and you're already closing? Then today, I walk in at 7:30am and they're still not doing food because there was only one employee. Some people work at 8 and want a great breakfast. Their online ordering was also turned off. Our waitress was friendly, took our order and brought our orange juices quickly. I ordered the Western omelette w/hash browns (potato chunks) & toast and my husband opted for the breakfast burrito and coconut cream pie for desert. My husband seemed to have enjoyed his breakfast more than I mine although he didn't like the pie. My toast was buttery and there was no jelly in sight or our waitress to ask. Also, no salt & pepper or condiments on any of the tables like other restaurants. Perhaps because it's a senior citizen complex they aren't allowed to spice things up. Guessing here, perhaps government subsidized (501C3) so they are able to offer price reduced meals. The place was clean, quiet, ample seating and a nice menu selection. A pleasant foodie surprise in San Angelo!…read more I had to come into San Angelo for work and going into the trip, I was not too excited about my food options available to me as a vegetarian...but I did find Buttercup online and it seemed close enough to those "hip, city coffee shops", meaning I should be able to get some decent food! Unfortunately, a lot of their hot sandwich options were off the table since they seemed to have a broken toaster, but I was able to order a hummus veggie sandwich that came with seasoned potato chips, a side salad, and a stick of chocolate. I also got a vanilla cake bite (pop without the stick) and everything was about $18 with tip. I didn't feel like trying any of the drinks, but some of the coffee flavors sounded interesting and they have seasonal flavors too. The ambiance is inviting, and definitely feels like a cozy place for the community to come hang. If you ever find yourself in this part of west Texas, definitely keep this spot in your back pocket for close to healthy eats!
