The young lady read the menu to us over the phone with such care & time. We settled for a cheeseburger and grilled chicken salad and substituted in cucumbers instead of boiled eggs (need to learn to like them, more protein). We got there after 7:30 and she was so sweet and asked if just driving through town and asked how we found them. I said yelp! We drove to a nearby park to eat and it was so pleasant under the canopy shaded and clean picnic table. Families and kids out and about just enjoying the cool, breezy summer evening as we enjoyed our flavorful meals! My husband ate his cheeseburger before I could take a photo but it looked delish, what I could see of it. I savored my grilled chicken salad as I commented on the excellent service and tasty food we had the pleasure of eating passing through McCamey, TX

THE BAD: Unfortunately this is the most TASTELESS Mexican food I've ever had. Everything from the meat to the beans and rice to the chips and salsa were all VERY bland. Road trip stop. Middle of nowhere. Blink and you'll miss it town called Ozona…read more Very Hills Have Eyes aesthetic so yeah... we needed food ASAP. Enter Pepe's. This place is like a collector's cave that also happens to serve Tex Mex. Comic books, random memorabilia, and as a huge Batman fan I was unexpectedly thriving in here. In the middle of nowhere and suddenly I'm distracted by collectibles? Didn't see that coming. Food though... mixed bag. Burritos are tiny. Respectfully... where's the rest of it? They don't use lard which some people will love, but flavor wise it felt a little flat. Guac was sad. We ordered the three scoops and got a small portion buried under a mountain of lettuce for no reason. Salsa with the chips was bland and the chips themselves were just... there. Now plot twist, the salsa that came with the burritos was actually good. Not life changing but definitely better than the starter situation. Service was great and there's a cute house kitty out front greeting you like it's on payroll, which honestly boosted the whole experience. Overall, cool spot with personality. It fed us and got the job done. Not a banger, but memorable in its own weird little way.

The portion was smaller than I expected, but the flavor didn't disappoint. The pork was tender, and the green chile sauce had a deep, rich taste that reflected hours of slow cooking. It carried more heat than my palate prefers, but spice lovers would likely appreciate it. The accompanying rice and beans were less impressive. The Spanish rice had a fairly standard flavor but was noticeably dry. The refried beans were also dry and seemed as though they had been sitting for quite some time before being served, which took away from an otherwise flavorful entrée. The restaurant itself was clean, colorful, and had a lively atmosphere that made it an inviting place to dine. Prices were about what I would expect for the meal we ordered--fair, though not a standout value. Overall, it was a pleasant stop with friendly service and a well-prepared Chile Verde, even if a few of the side dishes fell short.
