So.. depending on your vibe, when you think small town.. most of us either go for brand name places to eat or we go for the "hole in the wall diamonds" El Rey Sol was no exception to this concept. We drove past this place more than a few times, but decided to give it a shot.. I'm honestly kicking myself for not trying it the first time. So let's start from the top.. 1. Salsa was on point! Delicious and had a good amount of heat. We ordered the queso as well. Not bad, needs a little more seasoning, but it was good! 2. My gf bad the quesa birria..soo good!! Cheese and meat were loaded in the tortillas! The consume has so much flavor! So wonderful! 3. I ordered the signature dish, El Rey Sol plate. My only complaint I could give would be the beans and rice. The beans had an off taste to them.(maybe add bacon fat?) The rice seemed a little overcooked, but the flavor was still there. A little salsa on them and BAM! They were right back in the game! The Enchilada, taco, and tostada were excellent. The chili relleno was delicious! I got mine with cheese, and omg it was loaded!!! Lastly.. the star for me was the tamale.. I haven't had one better than El Rey Sol since Delia's in South Texas. I could smash a dozen of them by myself! Top it all off with amazing and knowledgeable staff members.. just a wonderful dining experience. We will 1000% be back very soon!! read more

Be careful they add stuff to ur bill! I asked for 3 Birria tacos and they gave me three plates of three tacos? When I asked them they said they only gave me one plate I said "so one plate with 3 tacos cost $48 and she said yes only for another staff member tell me they are $16 each plate. Then they all walked to the back to hide and I stood there for 20 min just for no one to come back and no one gave me a refund so I walked out of there paying $95 for Birria tacos, enchiladas, and the kids mac & cheese. Also if u use a card at drive through u will have to give them ur pin # cuz the machine don't reach to the window. read more

All you can eat lunch buffet. It was very good! I was driving by and saw a lot of cars parked, so I tried it. Glad I did! The buffet was; Tamales, tacos, enchiladas, refried beans, chili con carne, Mexican rice, salad. I am satisfied. Quick and great service! read more

we drove in to Crane for a chili cookoff. Then went to find a dinner choice. When we drove up there was not even one car in front. None. We were skeptical. Checked the door. Yep open. two employees inside. No one else. We chose a table. Immediately one of the most pleasant waitresses I have ever encountered came to us. we ended up really happy that we took the chance. Food was all good. Service was excellent. And the two employees hustled. And the interior is really nice. We recommend! read more

The staff can become overwhelmed by orders. Week days they have the buffet and everything flows well. Weekends without the buffet they are overwhelmed. Food is good and a huge selection of food. Timing is everything. We didn't get our food for over an hour on Saturday. We got there early but people kept coming in. I believe they have great potential. The wait staff is amazing. read more

We have tried El Rey several times and haven't had a good experience any of them. The tables and chairs are super uncomfortable to sit at and the table is very small. The pedestal the table sits on ends up hitting your knees and is super scratchy so it catches on your clothes. Service is always very slow. The waitresses are nice but the kitchen takes forever so be prepared to wait. Once you do finally get your food, the table is so crowded it's hard to fit four plates. I've had several dishes and haven't really loved any of them. The chicken is always super dry and doesn't have much flavor, enchiladas the sauce was so spicy I couldn't eat it even though I asked for the least spicy option, tacos felt like they were from a fast food place. My kids have had burgers every time we've done and sometimes they say it's good and others they refuse to eat more than a couple bites because "it's not good". Maybe they will be able to work out issues over time, but it will be a while before we try it again. read more
