Tin Cup was the only spot to eat in the middle of a food desert on our way to Marfa. So, when we stopped at this dusty, unassuming cafe attached to a motel, we weren't feeling all too hopeful about the food but we were hungry and wanted to sit at a table to eat and give the local fare a try. There's a covered patio with a few tables in the front and a couple large tables that could each easily fit eight people, and a small 2-top. They brought us out complimentary chips and salsa. What a nice surprise. The chips were warm and the salsa was delicious-- bright, flavorful, and with just the right amount of kick (mild heat but not too spicy; your three-year-old might not be a fan but my husband who doesn't normally like too spicy enjoyed it). I ordered my staple whenever I visit a diner/cafe for the first time-- the Patty Melt with mustard and mayo on the side (this condiment combination on the side is winning with a patty melt, btw ). They offer all the veggies with it but I just ordered mine with sautéed onion. The food took a little bit but we weren't in a hurry and when it came out it was nice and hot. My Patty Melt was served on a buttery grilled Texas Toast with a side of fries and it was oh so good. Loved the variation of Texas Toast in place of Rye bread. It was seasoned well and both classic and unique. Made with love! The fries had a good balance of crispy and soft inside. My husband and son ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger and were really happy with it. My husband said that it tasted like a "Texas Burger." Doesn't that say it all, though. The women working inside were kind and welcoming. They chatted with us and were helpful whenever we asked questions about the menu. They gave us a sweet Texas goodbye on our way out and told us to drive carefully like sweet Texas mamas do. My only critique would be that the bathroom needed some attention but, besides that, our experience was good and we wouldn't hesitate to stop in again knowing the folks are kind and will feed ya' well. read more

Texas road trip. Off I-10 we dropped down to Marfa and cut through Alpine and Marathon then up to Sheffield. Here I hit Yelp for a what's up for a good burger. This brought us to Tim Cup Cafe. Have to say it was interesting. The lady behind the counter was very kind. The burger was fine, probably a frozen patty cooked up but I was not upset about that. Fries were good and the kicker was she brought out chips an salsa. Keep your expectations in check. This is a small town diner. read more

We stopped here on our way back to Austin from Big Bend/Marfa. This is such a cute little place and the food was excellent. The warm chips and fresh tasting salsa that was complimentary was a very nice touch. Recommend stopping in to check out this hidden gem if in the area. Good food. Good people. Great salsa ! I pulled off the highway and drove a couple of miles to a great little café. If you are passing by the area, do not hesitate. From there I continued east, and cross the Pecos River and went and visited the Fort Lancaster historic site all worth it. read more

Was a little hesitant at first then said, why not?! Local spots are usually always good and this spot turned out to be great and worth the wait! We were anticipating a shorter wait time - after 8 hours on the road, our 4 kids, hubby and I were hungry, and really didn't want to drive an additional 30 min to get food. We stopped, the smell of homemade burgers smelled fantastic and it immediately felt like we were at the right spot - the smell and ambiance of some good ol homemade food. We Ordered burgers, grilled cheese, chicken sandwich, had some warm chips and salsa while we waited (about 30 min). Y'all, The wait was worth it! We got our food to go, the kids were in awe of their great tasting burgers and we went on our 3 hour drive back home full and ready for our beds read more

A diamond in the rough! This delightful, small town, family-run café attached to a delightful little motel was WELL worth the short detour from I-10! This tiny, clean, well-kept establishment served-up friendly faces and conversations, pleasant atmosphere, and absolutely delicious food! We were not misguided by the other reviews, and we plan to pass through on our next trip through West Texas... I recommend you do the same! And you have to start with the chips and salsa! read more

We were on the road searching for somewhere to eat and ran across Tin Cup Cafe. It was 31 miles away but we were so excited to finally eat something! It's just right off the 10 and such a nice drive wrapped around a hill then you finally come to a small town. We circled around a motel and ended up at the entrance. The owners were sitting outside and greeted us warmly. We looked at their menu and ordered a grilled cheese and chopped bbq sandwich with fries. It was so good! It's a small little country cafe that makes their food a lot of heart. If you're driving through check it out! read more

Make sure to call ahead to see if they're open...I just happen to luck out. The chips and salsa were legit tasty; they appeared to be homemade chips and were freshly made ether warm. The bacon cheeseburger had crisp and delicious bacon, and don't forget to order with jalapeños! The service was super friendly. Would visit again. read more

This was a warm surprise in a small west Texas town. Just off Highway 290 as you drive into Sheffield, attached to an old single story motel complex. Customer service was great and I was greeted with a warm "Howdy" the moment I came inside. Ordered coffee and a burrito, and the food came out very promptly! Place was clean and well kept! A good place to stop for visitors coming to or from Fort Lancaster State Historic Site to the east of town. Will definitely stop again next time I'm in the area! read more

You would never stop based on the outside appearance but the nice lady outside said they were open and we were hungry. Wow what a hidden gem. The chips and salsa were homemade and unordered to tide us over waiting for the smoked chicken blue plate special. What an awesome experience. Cheryl, the owner, is the sweetest lady. We arrived 30 minutes before closing yet she never rushed us. She made us the best burgers (poncho) however the best was the 'brisket burrito'. A cute restaurant with lot of charm. Great little find off the highway. Ordering took a bit and there was some confusion, but I'm fairly certain the young lady was in training. They were very friendly and the food was fast and good. We were coming from the west, so we drove right by it at first. Also note, Apple maps does not know it exists, even it's address. Additionally, the lady there gives the kids a quarter and a cup to get candy out of their machine, and they have several choices, so that was fun for them!
