On a road trip from Houston to Phoenix, I made a pit stop to get some gas. It made sense to get some food too, and Dairy Queen was right next to the gas station. So my decision was made. I used the drive through on a Saturday evening. Service (4/5): Since I used the drive through, rather than dining in (there's plenty of parking), service wasn't a big part of the experience. With that being said, I was greeted almost immediately upon pulling up, once I asked for a few minutes, I received a polite response, and my order came out as it should have. All in all, the lady taking my order did a great job. Which isn't always the case, as we know some fast food workers don't care at all about their jobs. This wasn't the case here. Ketchup and napkins included without asking. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance (N/A): I mean it's fast food, so you know, not really a romantic spot. But, even when at a fast food joint, you want it to be clean. Since I didn't go inside, I can't talk about how things are here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Drinks (N/A): I didn't order a drink, but if you're at Dairy Queen, a milkshake is the way to go. Food (2.5/5): Some good and some bad here. I'll start with the food. My food was piping hot, which means it was freshly fried rather than sitting under a heat lamp for a while. This is always a nice touch at a fast food restaurant, and not by any means guaranteed. I went with the chicken fried steak fingers basket which comes with Texas toast, fries, and warm white gravy. Props to Dairy Queen for a Texas classic, chicken fried steak, in fingers form. You can choose between four or six fingers. I went with six. Which is a lot. I was stuffed after consuming this meal. The steak fingers are also quite heavy, so I wasn't feeling great afterwards. But hey, it did what I wanted. Filled me up while I was on the road. Dairy Queen isn't in the upper echelon of fast food joints in my mind, but I will give it mid-tier status. While I didn't get any ice cream while I was there, given that I had dessert earlier that day, it's what they're known for. read more

Passing through this town and couldn't go driving around to find any place else to eat because I was hauling a big trailer. Staying at the Holiday Inn one block away, so I decided to walk over here and pick up some food. The hamburger was great. They made it exactly how I wanted them. The fries were good and the strawberry blizzard was amazing. The issue was that they were rather slow and I did ask for dipping sauces and ketchup, but they forgot him along with no napkins. We stop here pretty regularly since it's convenient off the interstate. The tables could have used a wipe down the benches too but it wasn't too bad. They have a nice outdoor court yard eating area with lots of shade. We first ordered two of the new spicy tender meals, they were really good and the chicken was very hot. The quality was decent. I had one strip that wasn't so great but I was happy with them spice level. After we ate our meals we went back up to order a blizzard. The lady who took our order both times seemed friendly enough at first but we noticed she had made a mistake with an older gentleman's order ahead of us. We didn't have any order issues with our food. However when we went back for the cream I asked her what ingredients were in a tropical and Hawaiian blizzard. Her response to me was "I have no idea I don't eat those things" I'm like ohh kay...so she asks another lady who also has no idea...but in her defense it was only her second day I think she said. They ask a third person who finally tells them. I'm like geez forget it just give me an M&M blizzard with extra chocolate please. She then proceeds to ask me what do I mean by chocolate because she wants to get my order correct and she doesn't eat this stuff she says again. She says do I want chocolate m&ms or what kind of chocolate. I ask what she means by chocolate M&Ms, I just want regular ones with extra chocolate that it's already made with.. the chocolate syrup. The only previous experience I've ever had in Ozona TX was at the inexcusable freak show of a gas station down the road. It was gross and weird and for the bold and unwise looked like it could be very dangerous. So, lacking any other information, I'd been a bit soured on the whole town. But today after leaving our temporary TX digs dark and very early, I discovered I'd abandoned my beautifully chilled, perfectly personalized coffee sitting, sad and unloved in my aunt's fridge. Unable to endure a 14 hour drive without a generous dose of caffeine we swung by DQ. Oh sweet, sweet DQ. My $5 milkshake masquerading as a coffee drink was just what I needed. And it was so enticing that I hadn't made it out of the store before both my girls decided they needed one too. Stopping in for some ice cream at the Ozona, Texas Dairy Queen. First thing that I noticed was the royal pride award for having outstanding level of cleanliness and food safety, which is one of my things! The restaurant was fairly busy for this late in the evening. The drive-through had a line, but the team was working quickly to keep everyone moving. We happen to come inside and were greeted very pleasantly. Our server at the counter did a nice job. She was apparently new and still trying to figure out some of the codes in the computer. We received our food with a nice presentation and very quickly. We were able to enjoy our desserts in the outside seating area during a very pleasant evening. I was in search for a place that had restrooms as I was still in route to my destination. I ended up at Dairy Queen in Ozona, TX. I was also pretty hungry at the time. Got myself a Grilled Chicken Sandwich with no sauce. Chicken was good, but I didn't care for the loose lettuce. It's like you taking a bite and lettuce is falling off onto your lap LOL. I prefer the whole leafy type for a better eating experience. I asked for no sauce and I got sauce... oh well. I also really wanted to get their ice cream shake, too, but since I was still driving a long distance, I didn't get it because I didn't want to have any stomach troubles along the way. Staff was nice and pleasant. Prices were okay. Restaurant was clean. They also had a frig with cakes and stuff. Now that I think about it, I don't recall going into a DQ restaurant in CA ever except in a mall... I'll have to find one to visit one of these days (you know I will LOL). Happy DQ'ing! read more

Front desk employee, guy, AJ, seriously rude. First, I asked for a banana split, he said they couldnt make it at the moment, which is the reason I stopped here first of all. Friendly. The staff here was super friendly, and all of them tried to be helpful even if they didn't know the answer. All I ordered was a medium chocolate dipped cone... you can ask them to dip it twice, which I did. The chocolate came out super thick and tasty. Straight to the point. Why 4 stars ? 1. Clean restaurant inside and the bathrooms were as well. 2. Staff was extremely polite. 3. Food came out as ordered: fresh and correct. 4. Other than a Sonic's nearby, it's the only major fast food chain in the area that was open around 330pm. So why not a 5 stars? Come on. It's certainly not the must eat spot when traveling through Sonora. So if the reasons for stopping checks off your requirements this may be the place for you as well. It's too bad that many fast food chains receive a lot of bad reviews for not meeting standards. From my experience here they've meet them. Hopefully they'll do the same for your visit. The staff was friendly and the food was fresh, hot, and decent at best (alright on my judging scale). There were several teenage kids in the dining area as they must have been on lunch from school, but they were all well mannered. So why the minus two stars ?? There were a few flies which are not a big deal, but I did spot a few dead roaches. One was squished right in front of the cake freezer. Also, some of the tables and benches needed to be wiped down but instead several of the workers were just standing around doing nothing. This particular location fit all of the above on my road trip across the country. Service was friendly, but not prompt. DQ never is because it takes a while to make ice creamy goodness. It was fairly busy. We received our order within five minutes. Actually, less than five. Granted, my grandmother and I had the tacos and my grandfather ordered a large fries and ice cream cone. The tacos were absolutely fantastic! I can't explain how great they were. You will not go wrong ordering the tacos. The fries were great: fresh and cooked in clean grease (which I'm extremely picky about). Yes, they have young, high school kids working, but what do you expect for fast food? First impression was good. It looked clean, restroom was decent and friendly service. However, as I was sitting and eating my meal I noticed a huge cockroach on the floor running towards me! I got up and moved to another booth because the roach ran up the wall and under the booth where my legs were. 10 minutes later, I look down and there was a huge ant walking across my tray of food (maybe came from the window sill next to me??). I looked at the window and noticed the sill was covered in dead flies and insect debris. As I said, initially all else looked clean but the amount of insect activity concerned me.
