What a great little stop after a long drive! It was super convenient to be able to charge my car here. This is a dine-in Sonic, which was a nice surprisethe inside was fresh and clean, and they even have restrooms available. I ordered a cherry limeade, and it was so good. All of our food was cooked to perfection & hot.. That young man whipped all our food up in what I think was a reasonable amount of time for being alone. I love Sonic, but this place is terrible. Super dirty, employees who aren't very bright, and nasty food. I was driving through the Texas wasteland, and Ozona is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it very, very small town (population: around 2,600). I was starving, and the Sonic was literally the only place to eat in town that was open. I figured I'd better stop because I hadn't seen much on the road and didn't know if I'd pass other places later on, and Sonic is usually a solid place to grab a soda and some tots or a chili cheese dog. I ordered a Sonic Burger and an iced tea, a very simple order. It took FOREVER to get my food. When it was finally ready, it was the most disappointing Sonic food ever. Fast food isn't exactly high quality to begin with, but I waited while they made my food fresh -- but it tasted old and sad. Even worse, the customers were super sketchy, and there were a lot of creepers hanging around outside. I guess the employees didn't know we were still inside (or maybe they didn't care) but they were having a loud conversation about how they were racist. I ordered the cheeseburger with tots and husband had hotdog with tots. Got back to hotel and hamburger looked old, cold, smelled bad. I couldn't eat it. It was that bad. This Sonic is a victim of its location. It sucks. When you find yourself driving across West Texas there are a few things that you will notice. The beauty of the landscape is amazing. Texas is massive. The first town you come to after miles of nothing is not the place you should stop. On a recent road trip I made the error of taking the northern route there, and the southern route back. West Texas is best done first, but I wanted to be different this time. That led to a massive drive on the second to last day and it was exhausting. After many miles of nothingness, a pee break was demanded and this was the first exit. There were so many people taking this exit that I thought the entire state of Texas was here. Every gas station, restaurant, and road was jam packed with people. This Sonic, which is unlike any Sonic I have ever visited was insanity. There were no outside slots to pull into. Everything as either inside or drive-thru. I was lucky to find a spot in the lot next to the landscaping that nearly prevented my exit via the drivers door. Inside there was a sea of humanity trying to order. Not one person appeared happy. The bathrooms were a major disaster. Filthy, packed with people, and just not where you wanted to pee. After a long wait there, we decided to give the drive thru a shot. After 30 minutes (really) of the drive thru not moving at all, my internal rage was at a boiling point so I said F this and rolled out. It took me probably another 20 minutes to navigate the traffic in the lot and get to the highway. If you can avoid this location, avoid it at all costs. The next sonic isn't close, but I guarantee it will take you less time to get there than it will take at this place. Plus you'll be further down the road. read more

Looks are deceiving! On the outside it looks like it would be a great place to get food since I love sonic . Inside the bathrooms are disgusting. They haven't been clean in idk how long and is sad since I've never been to a sonic that isn't just a drive in or drive thru. It smells so bad and has flies. The wait was standard as it would be if you did car hop or drive in. I found this place driving from Elpaso, Texas. It's a really small town. On the Wall their high school class, of 18, was no more than 30 kids. The people are nice. Not super nice and friendly, but they were not mean either. Very filthy. Play area has never been cleaned. Dirty items left behind they don't even clean up. Workers are lazy and don't want to even give more than 4 napkins for a family of 6!! Asked for cleaner to clean a table and the worker looked at me as I was crazy that the tables are all clean. Yet the tables in the play area were filthy. Mold on the chairs. Absolutely gross!! Dirty, this place would not pass health code at all. And if only the ceo of sonic saw this location they'd completely shut it down and retrain or hire new workers. This Sonic has a huge parking lot so there was room for our RV. Clean bathrooms, clean tables inside. Food was prepared quickly and tasted good. One of the best trips to Sonic I've ever had. If more locations were set up like this I would go all the time. read more

We were three war buddies, driving a Volkswagen Westie across the southwest on our way to Fort Stewart for the 10th anniversary of Operation Iraqi Freedom. We hadn't been together as a group in nearly all of that time, and we were on our third day on the road. After visiting two of our other OIF comrades in El Paso, we pointed the Westie straight for Savannah. The van's biggest problem had been apparent since our first day's drive; the stems on the tires were old and prone to breakage. We'd already replaced two, and we were holding on for dear life hoping we didn't lose another until New Orleans. Our luck, and the rubber, gave out just past Sheffield, Texas. We pulled over, patched another tire, then pushed on to the next town: Ozona. We arrived too late on a Saturday for the town's mechanic to help us; we'd have to wait until Monday before any aid was available. We found a trailer park on the west end of town, near the Interstate, set up camp, and proceeded to eat warm chili from our Dutch oven and drink much beer and rum. It was the rum that was our greatest error. Needless to say we were still young, and the liquor lit the fire that younger men don't always need in their bellies. After too much alcohol, and a windy night that would try lesser men's souls, we had an airing of grievances. Words were said, wrestling happened, and steaks, eggs, and orange juice ended up on the interstate. It was a disaster. Late in the night - or perhaps early in the morning - the fire subsided, and we all slept. When we woke the next morning, one of our party was too ill to do anything. The others were hungry, but the food was scattered across Interstate 10. We had no car, little cash, and weren't sure where we'd find an ATM. But on the horizon, we had hope: SONIC. None of us lived in an area with easy access to America's Drive In, but all of us remembered its greatness from our younger days in the south. My friend and I endeavored to trek across town for breakfast. That greasy breakfast, its contents lost to time, was one of the most amazing meals of my life. Rest assured, dear reader, it included hash browns. Golden, crispy hash browns. And also likely eggs and meat on a biscuit. It sounds so simple, so maddeningly humble, but it was the breakfast of the gods, washed down with a sweet tea that would melt the enamel off a Yankee's teeth. Was it an odd Sonic, built into the crumbling remains of an old McDonald's? Absolutely. Was it a fever dream to sit at an indoor booth whilst enjoying the fruits of America's Drive In? Certainly. But on a hot morning that followed a long, dark night of the soul, it was both the Sonic we needed, and the Sonic we deserved. read more

We had to stop at this exit for gas and we were extremely hungry! Out of hunger and had experience past Sonics, we wanted to eat here. The service and the amount food they give you is so skimpy. It was kind scary at first because we were the only customers and no one around. It felt like a horror movie where I thought zombies were gonna appear somewhere..but thats just my imagination. We ordered the chili cheese tots and they gave us a skimpy amount. We decided to eat inside to rest a bit and since we were the only ones in the joint, the employee was cleaning the place down as if a whole bunch of customers came through there and made a mess. First Sonic I've been to that wasn't the drive up and order. It is in a building like a typical McDonalds or Burger King. The food and service was typical of fast food, no issues on my end. The play place was enclosed and kept my kids occupied. There was a musty smell likey from use.
