I enjoy establishments like the Hitchin' Post. Not pretentious, just a nice hometown gathering place to enjoy some good, simple homestyle food. Wife had "the best she'd had" chicken fried steak. Son had some fried chicken strips. I had the hamburger steak (it was okay) Portions were rather large. Perhaps due to dry county laws, you had to pay $5 to order a drink but could have up to three guests for a 6 month club membership. No biggy. I'd say it's worth a second visit on our drive back.

Probably more like a 3.5 Star review. The cheese curds are 5/5 - amazing taste, consistency; they didn't skimp out on quality of ingredients. Steak Sirloin steak was 3.5/5 - the flavors was there, but you can tell this was tenderized to be more tender. Also we asked for a medium rare and got medium to a juicy well done. So if you like your steaks a little on the rarer side, ask for as rare as you can get it. Sides - 2.5/5 - fries and green beans were nothing to rave about. Service - 5/5 - great prompt and friendly service!

We found this place while driving cross country via the Yelp. It was a cold wet night and as soon as we walked in the door, it felt like walking in to someone's home for a home-cooked meal. We ordered the country fried steak. It was large enough that we cut it in half and split it! It came with two sides so we each chose one: fried potatoes, and green beans. And I haven't even mentioned the country gravy! We heard live music coming from the front room. They also had two pool tables and a bar in that area. After dinner, we found ourselves wanting to enjoy some time with the locals and tourists alike. We had great service and incredible drinks along with our dinner. I highly recommend and we are already planning to stop back in on our way to South Carolina.

Small Chicken Fried Steak with mash potatoes and corn

A very nice little steakhouse. Stopped here for lunch and really enjoyed myself. I ordered the Small Chicken Fried Steak. With mash potatoes and corn. I don't know how big the original size steak is but I want to find out and go very hungry. The small chicken fried steak was delicious, ttender and I loved the gravy. The mash potatoes were very good as was the corn.

The only place open on a Sunday evening. Older but still nice steak house. They still have a smoking section.... Straight forward menu. Steak. Fried everything, Salad bar, typical sides. They are a members only alcohol situation. But you can purchase membership on the spot for $5. Onion rings are amazing. Chicken fried steak is HUGE.. gravy bland. Sirloin steak is large. Too bad the cook could not prepare it rare. 3 times it came out medium.

Service was good, but they charge an absurd $5 "membership fee" to order a beer. I got the steak salad which was beautifully presented, but the steak was tough and marinated to the point which made me wonder if it were old. The taste was "off" for me. My partner got the Gourmet Chicken Fried Steak, which, of course was good as it was fried and came with a side of gravy. I mean, deep fried anything is good if smothered. The highlight was the fried okra and the mashed potatoes. They come out with a handheld credit card machine with no itemization, which is always suspect. But it did start at 10% tip, unlike other restaurants that start at 20%.

Price of the "gournet" and the "regular" CFS plates? Thx

The "Gourmet" size was $15.99, comes with plenty of gravy and your choice of sides (baked potato, fries, etc), regular size is $10.99, both worth every penny. Their menu is online at zmenu.com.

Though small and quiet, this little grill puts out really good food. My daughter kept it simple with a dry cheeseburger. It comes with a side of fries that are cooked fresh, but maybe needed some time to breathe or dash a little bit of salt. The burger was cooked really well though. Noah enjoyed his carne asada tacos. Liz ordered the Potosino nachos, which were like a loaded nachos. Loaded means it came with beans, grill d tomato and jalapeno, thin slices of skirt steak, and cheese. It looked good, and I grabbed a few at the begining. I really enjoyed my Potosino plate. It was the same thing slices of skirt steak, grilled onion, jalapeno, and tomato that was on the nachos, but my plate came with Spanish and refried beans. (Same as Noah's kid taco plate). So, why the 3? It's a small place, and the dining area can be overwhelmed by a rush. Though the folks that knew were just getting food to go. There's about 7 tables/booths for 4 each, and it got crowded right after we sat down and ordered. Hey, if I can't get my coffee refilled without asking, well... Overall, I did enjoy the food. The place was clean and comfortable. It was the lack of speedy service was on no way a deal killer, but when you're on the EP to SA road trip time management can matter. Check it out if you're stopping in Ozona.

We wanted a sit down place to stop and take a break, plus be served. You can miss this place. A bright yellow building, many cars out front and notably a hub for hungry people! Came in about 45 minutes before they closed. Service was nice and efficient with a humble, friendly atmosphere. Complementary chips served in a bowl, with an unusual warm salsa to start. My husband & I both got the chicken enchiladas, The chicken was in small chunks and was moist, but the cheese inside made it even better. Could have been a homemade queso? It was creamy and delicious. The rice and beans were piping hot and the enchiladas bubbling when presented. Flavors more of a Sonoran style, but very good. The prices were fair for what they offer. However, we got a side of pico ' it came in a small 2 oz container that wasn't full for $2. Menu doesn't have combo options which was kinda disappointing, but overall we were happy with this little spot we stopped!

On a road trip from Houston to Phoenix, I made a pit stop to get some gas. It made sense to get…read moresome food too, and Dairy Queen was right next to the gas station. So my decision was made. I used the drive through on a Saturday evening. Service (4/5): Since I used the drive through, rather than dining in (there's plenty of parking), service wasn't a big part of the experience. With that being said, I was greeted almost immediately upon pulling up, once I asked for a few minutes, I received a polite response, and my order came out as it should have. All in all, the lady taking my order did a great job. Which isn't always the case, as we know some fast food workers don't care at all about their jobs. This wasn't the case here. Ketchup and napkins included without asking. Ambiance (N/A): I mean it's fast food, so you know, not really a romantic spot. But, even when at a fast food joint, you want it to be clean. Since I didn't go inside, I can't talk about how things are here. Drinks (N/A): I didn't order a drink, but if you're at Dairy Queen, a milkshake is the way to go. Food (2.5/5): Some good and some bad here. I'll start with the food. My food was piping hot, which means it was freshly fried rather than sitting under a heat lamp for a while. This is always a nice touch at a fast food restaurant, and not by any means guaranteed. I went with the chicken fried steak fingers basket which comes with Texas toast, fries, and warm white gravy. Props to Dairy Queen for a Texas classic, chicken fried steak, in fingers form. You can choose between four or six fingers. I went with six. Which is a lot. I was stuffed after consuming this meal. The steak fingers are also quite heavy, so I wasn't feeling great afterwards. But hey, it did what I wanted. Filled me up while I was on the road. Dairy Queen isn't in the upper echelon of fast food joints in my mind, but I will give it mid-tier status. While I didn't get any ice cream while I was there, given that I had dessert earlier that day, it's what they're known for.
