Stopped in on our way back to Austin from Marfa. The service was exceptional!! Our server was so kind, patient, and loving towards our little guy, Benji. This joint is the epitome of a small-town comfort food establishment. What does that mean? It means you get what you expect, good service and quality eats at affordable prices.

Everything was great! Chicken Fried Steak was great just like others had stated. The burger was also good, had a great bun. They were very helpful since we had a fur baby. They let us eat out on the patio which was great because we had it all to ourselves.

Closed when supposed to be open

It's not open. Supposed to be, its 6 Pm and it supposedly remains open until 9 PM. A bit disappointed.

Good breakfast food and service. Hash browns crispy and omelette stuffed with chicken, chilies and cheese was delicious.

Tin Cup Cafe - Delicious (and complimentary!) homemade salsa with warm, seasoned chips.

So, when we…read morestopped at this dusty, unassuming cafe attached to a motel, we weren't feeling all too hopeful about the food but we were hungry and wanted to sit at a table to eat and give the local fare a try. There's a covered patio with a few tables in the front and a couple large tables that could each easily fit eight people, and a small 2-top. They brought us out complimentary chips and salsa. What a nice surprise. The chips were warm and the salsa was delicious-- bright, flavorful, and with just the right amount of kick (mild heat but not too spicy; your three-year-old might not be a fan but my husband who doesn't normally like too spicy enjoyed it). I ordered my staple whenever I visit a diner/cafe for the first time-- the Patty Melt with mustard and mayo on the side (this condiment combination on the side is winning with a patty melt, btw ). They offer all the veggies with it but I just ordered mine with sautéed onion. The food took a little bit but we weren't in a hurry and when it came out it was nice and hot. My Patty Melt was served on a buttery grilled Texas Toast with a side of fries and it was oh so good. Loved the variation of Texas Toast in place of Rye bread. It was seasoned well and both classic and unique. Made with love! The fries had a good balance of crispy and soft inside. My husband and son ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger and were really happy with it. My husband said that it tasted like a "Texas Burger." Doesn't that say it all, though. The women working inside were kind and welcoming. They chatted with us and were helpful whenever we asked questions about the menu. They gave us a sweet Texas goodbye on our way out and told us to drive carefully like sweet Texas mamas do. My only critique would be that the bathroom needed some attention but, besides that, our experience was good and we wouldn't hesitate to stop in again knowing the folks are kind and will feed ya' well.

But, in all fairness, I've eaten at no fewer than 200 different Tex-Mex restaurants in my lifetime. First, as one reviewer stated, this is very much a New Mexican-style restaurant, although they try to get there with the Tex-Mex. What does this mean? Quite simply, this place uses red sauce (vs. chili gravy) for enchiladas. It also offers stacked enchiladas with an egg placed on top, which is true New Mexican. Beyond that, the menu is quite varied. I'll start with my cheese enchiladas with red sauce. The sauce was spicy as hell, which was wonderful. The enchiladas themselves were a disappointment because they used two corn tortillas to roll them with the smallest pinch of cheese I've experienced in a while. -- I'm not sure about my dad's chile relleno and beef enchilada with green sauce, but he really enjoyed both. The rice and beans were pretty much par for the course. Not bad but nothing special. The salsa here is phenomenal. There's just enough onion and cilantro to make it memorable. It's served cold, which is a must for me, and it has some serious bite. Service here is really friendly and efficient. The atmosphere is old school: cheap paneling and trite "Mexican" decor. The men's bathroom is almost as dark as a movie theater. I don't get to this area often, but I would certainly eat here again any time I do.
