Oh man, I hate offering poor reviews of places that should be great. Old Chicago is one of my favorite go-to places in its genre. Old Chicago Dubuque is off my return list based only on one experience with my also go-to favorite Chicago 7 pub cut thin crust. So take this review as you will, it is based on first impressions. Service was great. Full respect for every wait staff we encountered. Friendly, helpful, and cordial. The 7 just wasn't anywhere close to what I am familiar with at other locations. Toppings were not evenly spread, two inch crusts on one side, topping to the edge on the other. Limited uneven cheese. Ingredients just didn't make it. Something not right. Careless might be my word of choice. There is an issue when the onions still had the dry skin on them. Just sayin. These folks need a corporate product QC visit. read more

The food was good. The service was God Awful. Our servers name was Austin. We were a table of 7. The server took our orders, did not offer to get drinks, and subsequently lost our order. He had to retake everyone order again and it still took 30 minutes to receive our food. Then we were unable to get our bill. Austin was sweating before we arrive and that intensified also When we get our bills they were incorrect. Had to get the manager to sort out who ate what and rerun everyone's tab. Then he told us just to leave, that the lunch was on the house as he was walking out the door. He came back as the manager figured out the bills. And tried to help. This OC is connected to the Best Western Plus Hotel. We decided to eat there because it was convenient. We had the wings with the buffalo sauce and ranch on the side. They were extra crispy and cooked perfectly. We also had the "Meats Me" OC thick pan pizza. The crust wasn't as crispy as I like but the overall pizza was good. Our service was amazing! Our server was so funny and attentive! He made our experience better than I could have imagined. Inside was actually not too loud, there are TVs everywhere but they were muted while we were there. Noticed bartender and multiple servers (busy talking and watching the football game). Got the bartenders attention and mentioned we had been seated for over ten minutes and with "attitude" she says I'm not your server but will see if I can find you one. Btw only 4 tables busy.... Our 50min trip to Dubuque was to look for a car. There are a lot of pizza joints in this town. Despite OCP being a chain, we really enjoyed this restaurant and the choices on the menu. The ambiance is a combination of rustic and sports bar....perfect. Our server was prompt and friendly. The food was all prepared and presented very well. No complaints. First off, I could've eaten those Sicilian Pepperoni Wraps all day!! They were so good. Spicy pepperoni with a bit of cheese and sauce wrapped in soft, chewy pizza dough. (Just typing this makes me want to run out and get some.) Under crunchy garlic bread & cheese was a big square of lasagna. A balanced combination of meat, pasta and sauce, and oh so tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed our OC Thick Pan Pizza. It had thick layers sauce, cheese, and meat bursting with flavor with just the right amount of spiciness on a tasty crunchy crust. It's baked in a deep dish pan, but it's not a stuffed pizza (like Giordano's). Still, it's a belly-filler. My only regret was that my stomach wasn't bigger to try their desserts. At least we had leftovers to enjoy the next day. We have to return to the car dealer, and you can bet I'm gonna stop into Old Chicago again. It's worth it. read more

I have eaten here 4 times already. The staff has been extremely helpful, courteous and kind. I was tentative to go due to the fact of the reviews i have seen. However, I'm glad i gave it a shot the restaurant is clean and has a certain ambience about it. Plenty of televisions for watching whatever sport your interested in. Restrooms are clean. Service has been great my lunch visit is waited a little bit longer maybe 5-10 minutes for service but there was a considerable crowd there. Ive had 2 individual pizzas and a calzone. The food was excellent hot and tasty. I partook of some adult beverages made at the bar which was good. I must say wasn't impressed with the amaretto sour (they make there on sour) . They did provide me some in a cup later. The tiny flattened chicken breasts spent about twice the amount of time either on the grill or microwave , not sure which but tough and dry. Went there yesterday May 11th to of course get some Chi-Style pizza. Here's the breakdown of what I deemed as crucial points in terms of wait, service, and food. Please keep in mind that I currently reside on the suburbs of Chicago, I attended University in Dubuque (2017), this impacts how I rate my review on Old Chicago in Dubuque. TL;DR at the bottom. The wait was non-existent, we went at a good time to where they we were not busy. Awesome. The service was good, our waitress was attentive, sometimes a tad bit too much. I understand that it wasn't busy and there was more time to come check up on the customers, but this one was a little too much checking up. But no big deal, best to have that then the abounded waitress.* *The only downside of this service itself was that the waiting staff were visibly seen as lounging around on there phones. To me, it doesn't paint a good picture seeing on-the-clock staff nonchalantly on their phones. Though I understand it's slow and not much to do, there should be some sort of moral or direction from managers on having them go somewhere else for a bit of rest or something not as visible.* Now for the food, we only got the Deep Dish, Double Deckoroni™, that's a good $25 right there. To put it simple, the pizza was not made to order, it was cold and lackluster. It was no where near a Chicago Deep Dish, did it ever claim to be, is the question. I made the assumption as "yes", when you have the words "Chicago" and "pizza" us Illinoians think of one thing, "Chicago Style Pizza". I'm not one to be rude or what have you when my food isn't as it should be, being rude for your food nonsensical. This pizza did not seem fresh/on demand at all. I had asked the waitress how long it normally takes and she says 30-40 minutes. Cool no biggie, but as soon as she left another server came with our pizza. It didn't even take the 15 minutes, under normal circumstances this would seem as fast service, but this was just...off, for lack of better words. Overall, I won't be coming to this place again. We ate at DBQ Old Chicago on two nights the weekend of a college sports tournament in Dubuque. On both nights we ended-up in larger groupings of adults with very short notice to the manager and staff. Both nights were absolutely AWESOME! There were probably 50-60 people who arrived within an hour of each other and the staff/bartenders were PHENOMINAL and accommodating. The Classic Pizza with medium pan crust was soooo good. Perfect amounts of toppings and crispiness in the crust. Salads were great. And the staff were so flexible and efficient in balancing the merging of tables (turning a 4-top into 12-top), separation of checks without any fuss, and quick/timely refresh on the adult beverages. We could not have asked for a better venue for our boys and parents. I wish we had an Old Chicago (with Midwest kindness) in our hometown. Thank YOU OC Dubuque! read more

Came here today, three of us. As the hostess was walking up to us she was fixing her shirt and looked disorganized. We were sat and waited over 20 mins for service.. no one ever came. There were two guys that were already say that were never served either.
