Our family had a day trip to Dubuque, and my brother suggested this place. I had not heard of it and am always up to try something new and unique. Right from the start the hostess was rude. I thought maybe it was me, but observed her rude to others. This is a restaurant's first chance to set the tone, and she is not doing them any justice. We got a table and ordered drinks. My mom got the loaded Bloody Mary, which she said was delicious. It also was LOADED. Get this for sure! My SIL got the broasted chicken and said it was tasty as well. If you like chicken, it would be worth trying. Sadly I got a Mushroom and Swiss burger and it was fine. I always get burgers well done from a food safety perspective. It was medium at best. We already waited 40 minutes for food so I didn't send it back. The server never came back to ask how our food was either. My niece got a grilled cheese on the kid's menu. It was 90% bread for a 4 year old. Parents don't get this option! It's not worth the money. I know they were busy so trying to be respectful of that. The ambiance of the restaurant and the service were very nice. The ceiling fans were very cool.They were powered by a pulley system , which you see in other places throughout the city. This would have been my second time visiting this restaurant. I really didn't want to go since we had eaten there 2 years ago and the vibe was not friendly but the food was really good, and I decided it was worth it. I reasoned it was possibly a one-time thing, and I was probably remembering it as being worse than it was. We are from out of town and had not seen any recommendation on any site that we may need to make reservations. The hostess was rude and had no idea how to handle the situation. No timeframe, or even letting us know the reality that the multiple open tables we could clearly see in front of us would soon be occupied. She didn't even offer bar seating, the locals behind us, who also didn't know to make a reservation, made that suggestion. We chose to sit at the bar and were not acknowledged with even a hello by the bartender, we were not regulars or recognized by the young lady apparently. We got the message, our business is not needed. We left after 5 minutes of being ignored and went to the Barrel House and I had the best Cuban sandwich I have ever had. Didn't wait and service was prompt and friendly. We will not need to make a reservation at the Copper Kettle in the future since I have no desire to go back. I'm extremely disappointed by this experience at this restaurant, particularly because of how my friend, who uses a wheelchair, was treated. While he was transitioning from his wheelchair to a regular chair, we carefully placed his wheelchair out of the way. Without asking or getting permission, the owner took it upon herself to move his wheelchair across the room. The wheelchair's brakes were still engaged, and moving it in that manner caused damage.When my friend addressed what had happened, rather than acknowledging the mistake or taking responsibility, the owner dismissed his concerns. That response was incredibly disrespectful and upsetting.Mistakes can happen, but what matters is how you respond when you make one. Moving someone's wheelchair without asking, especially when the brakes are engaged and then refusing to take accountability when damage occurs is completely unacceptable.For someone who relies on a wheelchair for mobility, it is not simply an ordinary piece of property. It is essential equipment and should be treated with care and respect. This experience left us feeling that neither that basic consideration nor accountability was shown. Went here for the first time and it was busy, even on a Wednesday night. There was a small table or the bar open without a wait so we sat up at the bar. Service was great, she took very good care of us. We started with the cheese curds and those were fantastic! I got their meatloaf which comes with a dinner salad. Their salads are nothing to write hime about. Fairly plain, but if you like spinach, you are in luck. The meatloaf was average, but for around 30 bucks, it was not knock your socks off sadly. Had a wonderful dining experience here. Everything came together well from the customer service to the exciting menu to the actual taste of the food. The ambiance is lively. The menu includes a variety of tastes and I'd like to try more menu items. During my visit, I had the pork chops that came with caramelized brussel sprouts and were topped with delicious butternut squash as well as feta cheese. I'm not sure if I just went at a bad time, as I had lunch here on a Sunday afternoon when it wasn't super busy but the experience wasn't very impressive. To start off though, I like the setup of the restaurant itself with some unique decor, plenty of spacing between tables, comfortable atmosphere, and friendly service. However, the food was a bit of a let down. It took close to thirty minutes to come out with the two dishes, which weren't too impressive. The American burger was pretty juicy and I liked the char on the meat and the fresh lettuce and tomato. However, the food didn't come out super hot and the fries were only warm as well. The ratio of soft to crispy on the truffle fries was definitely leaning much more towards the former and the Parmesan overpowered any truffle oil that may have been on the fries. The duroc porkchop was the exact opposite. I understand that the cut is a little leaner than Berkshire pork, but this was very overdone to the point that there were no juices dripping out as I cut through the meat. I wasn't a huge fan of the sides either as the brussel sprouts were still quite bitter even after the balsamic glaze, and I didn't get much nuttiness from the butternut squash. Overall, I like the decor, atmosphere, service, and menu of Copper Kettle, but on this trip the food was a bit of a disappointment. read more
