Unimpressed. Walked in at 9 pm on a Friday and had to wait at bar while one bartender talked to friends and made drinks with them and other seemed to be working. Asked for a beer and a menu and other bartender dropped off beer and walked away. 5 mins later I asked for the menu again and same guy said "kitchen is closed". Could have saved me 5 mins and a beer and a bad review by just telling me that when I asked the first time. Seems like if you aren't a local or friend of staff, don't expect good service. read more

Stopped in this bar today while up in Dubuque for an award ceremony at the University of Dubuque. The place was clean and not very busy being we showed up after the lunch rush. The service was impeccable and the food was perfection. The bartender was even singing along as he worked. Definitely a fantastic experience, keep it up and check this place out. read more

Awesome! Drinks are on point. You can blindfold yourself and pick anything off the menu and it will be great. Our party chose the Goat cheese & bacon burger with fries - huge, flavorful and delicious; the chicken bacon ranch wrap with fries was also a great choice and two of us split the Ikonomopoulos Steak bites which they served each us our our half. I am surprised at how high of a rating this store has. The food is subpar at best and you can tell they use some cheaper ingredients. The mac and cheese bites are terrible, they have an odd jalepeno and cheese taste with a fuck ton of salt. Then I had to pick out some sickly looking lettuce from my chicken caeser salad. The chicken tasted like it was from a bag? The way it is sliced and then roasted makes me think it is not fresh chicken but rather frozen. I tried to ask my waiter but he said he had no idea and walked away. Thank fuck I don't live in Iowa and I never have to experience this place again! Had an amazing time at Baraboo's tavern. I was stopping in Dubuque for 1 night on a work trip and wanted to get out of my hotel room. I was greeted by Chad who was funny and great to be around. The cheese curds were amazing. I'm not a big fried food eater but was recommended by another customer to try them. They were spot on the raspberry jalapeño was fantastic!! Food was really good. We don't like the bar scene in general, but the bar was empty and the tables were full--we got the last one at the window. Nice seat. Awesome cheese curds with raspberry jalapeño jam. However, they posted that there is a 5% discount if paying with cash. So we did--and there wasn't. We never received a final receipt as when using a credit card. I don't know if the server pocketed the 5% or what happened. Saturday night busy but we got the only table left. Service was quick, attentive and friendly. Drinks were good but I was hoping for some more unusual/creative cocktails, they basically renamed classics. The college football games were on the TVs which added to the casual atmosphere. From what I saw the place was clean and I heard the men's bathroom had some interesting art which made me wish I had visited the women's room to check it out. I substituted the fries or chips for the cheese curds and they were also great. Very nice little place. Worth stopping! I read so many good reviews and I'm so glad we came here! We ate here while we were in the area to visit the Field of Dreams in nearby Dyersville. It was a good choice on our part. We sat at a high top table, but there were plenty of low tops too if you don't like to sit up high. I don't usually sit on barstools because I'm so short (it's sometimes hard to get up on the stool) but there wasn't much choice when we arrived, but it was okay. The place was hopping! I think it must be a local hang out spot. They had some interesting things on the menu, so my husband and I chose two and split them so that we could each try something different. One of the dishes we got was their Door County Dip (must be we were sitting in Door county). It was not your usual French dip. It had provolone cheese on it as well as sauteed mushrooms and onions. It was a bit messy (I ate my share with a knife and fork), but it was good. The other dish we had was their spinach artichoke quesadilla. That was messy too, and it was also good. Both dishes were very plentiful, and the dip came with fries. We had to take our leftovers with us, it was just too much food. Our waiter was very attentive......sadly I can't remember his name........it was something different. He mentioned that he did not ordinarily wait tables as he usually just stayed behind the bar. While in Galena we popped over to Dubuque to take the kids bowling at Cherry Lanes. We usually just get food from the snack bar there. It was closed so we looked up a few places on Yelp and stopped at Baraboo's. As soon as we walked in the bartender pointed out a table and came right over for drinks. He was helpful and funny and it just created a really nice vibe to start the meal. The kitchen staff was small... I think just two people cooking and bringing out the food. But the service was quick, the food was hot and we were checked on in a way that was attentive but didn't feel rushed. The fried Mac and Cheese bites are the best I've ever had and the raspberries jalapeño jam should be bottled and sold. This is a tiny spot but should definitely get on your radar. read more

The Italian beef sandwich was good, we really liked the pickled veggies on the sandwich. The au jus was a little salty. The fries were crispy. Service was fast. While the food was good, we were pestered by flies while sitting at our table, they were landing on us, our food, and our straws. Dined there last evening with a friend. I had the chicken Caesar wrap, and we shared the Ikomopoulos (sp?) steak bites. I had a coupla Blue Moon wheat beers. My friend had Manhattans. The wrap was excellent, the accompanying fries fine as well. The steak bites were flavorful, but tough as could be, to the point that I had to give up on chewing a couple of them, which is never a good sign. Service was attentive without being intrusive or gratuitously familiar. Would have been nice to have at the tables a list of the beers available, instead of having to ask the waitstaff what was on offer. Worth returning to and trying other items on the menu - and learning what beers they have. read more
