Stopped here for a quick lunch. Our server was really nice and the food was great! These sweet potato waffle were to die for! The coleslaw paired with the pulled pork was perfection. Tots were nice and crispy. read more

So me and a customer went there during a convention at the River Center. Upon arriving, we noticed that there was a table with approximately 20 guys but it a sports bar and they're used to having large groups, with all the conferences held around Dubuque, so we thought we should be ok. WRONG!! ( One waiter and one waitress) ‍) Waited 20 mins before even getting asked if what we wanted to drink. Mind you, we were ready to have a beverage and order by that time. I ordered the pick 3 and a beer. Chips, ceasar salad, and chicken and dumpling soup. My lunch companion ordered a chicken wrap and chips and a beer. Easy enough, right?!?! Wrong! Out beers finally got poured and then sat at the bar, for what seemed like an eternity. Finally brought those to us. And then we waited and waited and waited. Finally our waiter came back with just my chips. And we were back to the waiting game. By the time the rest of the food came, we NEEDED another beer, just to endure the wait. Oddly enough, they sat at the bar again. My salad was fine but the soup was cold! And that was the only hot thing that we had ordered. Short story long, it was a 90+ min lunch, for basically soup and salad. They need to figure out their food and staffing issues before I ever step back into this place!! read more

Came in & could see several people behind the bar working several people in the kitchen working, besides the cooks. Waited at the host station to be seated as directed per the sign. 8 to 10 minutes later, nobody had greeted us, said hello, let alone sat us. At one point, we watched a man get up from his table to grab his own menu. It wasn't busy enough to be ignored. At the very least, didn't the manager have eyes on the door? If not, the people we could see working or talking to each other? At that point, we knew the service would be slow all around so we left. Went around the corner and spent $100+ with their competitor. read more

We went here on 4th of July weekend after the kids baseball tournament (we are from out of state). Inside is a good size, sports bar-ish vibes. Public parking is close by. It's probably a 15 minute walk from Grand Harbor hotel. We came for the burger variety and milk shakes. Unfortunately they were out of ice cream so not everyone in the party got to enjoy shakes which was disappointing considering that was one of the selling points. Server was very polite as we know it wasn't his fault. Burgers were fantastic. Breaded Fries had great potential but a bit greasy for me. My son ordered a plain burger but was served a fully loaded. When the kitchen server came out and asked whose burger it was, we said it wasn't ours because he ordered a plain burger. She stated that it must be this one and handed to him. No harm done as he's not allergic to lettuce, tomato or pickles (kind of...he's a kid!) but just a miss there considering it wasn't the least bit busy. While I appreciate the casual atmosphere and table graffiti, they were rather sticky. There was a film on them so thick you could scratch with your nail. When your arms stick to the table it's a little annoying but it was upper 80's and humid. If I was local I'd give it another go. If you're visiting and love burgers, try it out as maybe we just had bad luck on a holiday weekend. Burgers were A+, just minor misses but nothing deal breaking unless it's a common occurrence. read more

The deep fried portobello mushrooms were the best! The pizza was ok in my opinion. So stop get the mushrooms and go get pizza someplace else. read more

Where do I start. First ordering was quite challenged by the fact that they were out of chicken wings, avocados and ice cream. This is what we know. The food took a long time to make. The order was wrong. The chips in the chips and queso were stale. The chicken and avocado sandwich without the avocado (since they were out) was grilled so that some pieces were too hard to eat. The southwest salad had lettuce stumps. They did have good TVs so I give them points for that. read more

We waited two hours to not get our food. We gave up and left. The restaurant was not even very full, maybe half? The servers didn't have a single clue how to do their job. read more

My friend and I came here for dinner while in Dubuque and it was so good! A casual spot but we each got the strawberry pecan salad, which were so huge that we could have split one! It was delicious, loaded with strawberries, blue cheese, chicken, candied pecans and a pomegranate vinaigrette. Honestly one of the best salads of this type I have had. Our waitress kept an eye on us though the place was busy; a few groups of teens had come before prom and were dressed for the occasion. A nice casual spot with good food! read more

Very friendly service (Luke) and food was amazing! Had a brother sister day and I will definitely go back again!

Terrible service. We went at 1 in the afternoon. Asked to sit in the bar area, host told us to go ahead and seat ourselves, 4 servers made eye contact with us & not one of them asked to help us. People came in after us & were seated next to us & waitress immediately made contact with them. Very disappointed after reading good reviews read more

Barrel House appears to be an east Iowa chain that is a full service casual pub serving a wide variety of craft beers on tap and elevated bar food. After a huge BBQ lunch earlier in the day while traveling we needed a place near the hotel for a beer and a light meal. BH fit the criteria and we didn't have to stay and deal with the hotel restaurant. I ordered a Melon Mojito Cider from the Tap menu that paired well with the Firecracker Shrimp Salad. A dozen spicy shrimps with a bed of greens and veggies topped with a mound of fried onion straws and a spicy ranch dressing - a perfect salad. My wife had a Citrus Surfer wheat beer and an order of truffle fries. No issues on food and our waiter was covering a lot of area and doing a great job. read more

We have been here a half dozen times over the last couple of years. The draft beer selection was ok, but needs more IPA's during the summer. The floor needed a thorough cleaning, not just at our table, but at others. The spicy cheese curds were the star of the day. Great seasoning, not too much spice and to me is a must order. They have shakes in regular and boozy. A little on the higher end for cost than I have paid at other establishments but good. The server kept forgetting or they had forgotten to make the shake as it came out with the food and it had been ordered long before that. If the floor had not been in the state it was in this review would be higher. read more

Take out is really slow and has poor communication. They were terribly understaffed, food took 45 minutes longer to be ready than we were told, and was just ok food. read more

Absolute terrible service! Never make a reservation here unless you tell them to write it down because they WILL forget and they WILL let other people take your seats! Terrible! Never again! read more

I had a Rueben here that harkened back to the days of my youth. Perfectly cooked, great flavor. Very friendly and informed service and the ambiance is what you would expect- loud with football games playing on every screen. Highly recommend read more

Tuesday at lunch. No fries. Sweet potato fries, tots. Paid $19 for chicken strips and tortilla chips. Average!

We stopped in for lunch and it took a bit to be greeted at the front but when we did the waiter was very friendly and found a table for 5 quickly. They have a great selection of beers on tap as well as plenty of TVs to watch. Our food came out fast and hot. My son's pizza was great but could have been cooked a bit longer as the dough was a bit raw in the center still. I love the extra touches with the branding on their buns and they used fresh avocado on the wrap which was great. We will return. read more

We had a group of 20 that came in an hour before they closed. They gave us a section by ourselves (much appreciated with 10 kids). It did take a while to get the waitress but she was training another. They were both very nice and helpful. We put the kids orders in first with our drink order and then when the drinks came put in the adult order. The kids chicken tenders were huge. Not average tenders, they were awesome. My three kids split two orders and could of split one. I had the firecracker shrimp wrap and it was really good! I'd come back. read more

Ate a late dinner with my dad on a Saturday evening around 7pm. We had an awesome server, I think he said his name was Alex. He was very informative and gave us a lot of recommendations. I ordered the Easy Eddy IPA and my dad ordered a wheat beer recommended by the server. We enjoyed both of them But preferred the Easy Eddy. For food I ordered the Buffalo chicken wrap and my dad ordered mushroom and Swiss burger. Our server recommended several dipping sauces, our favorite was the Fire Cracker Ranch! My wrap was awesome, on the spicier side which I don't mind. We loved the fries too, perfectly battered with a little crunch. I'd definitely come back! read more

This place use to be one of our favorite stops in Dubuque. Food was excellent and service was decent. We recently had an experience in which they were out of everything we wanted to order (practically all appetizers, including certain beverages) and the service was awful (took over an hour for the food to arrive). The server couldn't spell the names of basic dishes to find them on his device. The food was only so-so, plus left my spouse and I feeling not so good later. We will not be returning. read more

Service was slow, water was nasty. Shrimp tacos were swimming in sauce, but in a bad. Miami was pretty good though.

AFter a morning shopping for furniture, my husband and I stopped into Barrel House for a bite of lunch. Their lunch specials were very good with beverage, starter and entree included for one price. But the real highlight was Sarah our server. She gave us great service, was funny and didn't miss a thing from explaining the menu to getting us to-go cups for our beverages (ice tea and Diet Pepsi). We will definately be back and hope to see Sarah again. read more

I was visiting Dubuque on St. Patrick's day and I was on the search for green beer. I thought this would be an easy task, but let me tell you... It was not! I walked around downtown and called around 5-6 bars with no luck. The bars either did not have green beer or they had run out the day before... On St. Patrick's day?! My brain could not comprehend. I was about to give up but then I saw Barrel House. I gave them a call, and the friendly voice and the other line said the words I've been wanting to hear all night... "Yes, we have green beer". I told her I would be there in two seconds. Honestly, the beer is not that great, but it was green. It is a berry beer that's naturally green and not dyed, so it is very sweet. We also ordered the strawberry and cream fried pies that's very good. Sweet, creamy and crunchy all in one bite! I will definitely be back if I visit again to eat a proper meal! Thanks Barrel House for saving my St. Patrick's Day! read more

The waitress was excellent, however the shift manager was rude and not helpful. We had a party of 8, and the food came out in pairs of two in 5-8 minute increments. Food was only warm and fries were cold. One meal was dropped in the kitchen and we had to wait for it. The shift manager was unapologetic and did not take any ownership. Claimed it was because it was a very busy restaurant. It was not very busy! We will never come there again. read more

Nice lunch deal here, I got the fish and chips, and the fries were totally top notch. Fish was solid, and tartar was good. Coleslaw was also very good, the sweet kind. My wife had the avocado chicken sandwich, and it was excellent. Good value, service was very good, and it wasn't way too crowded for a Friday lunch. I'd come back again. read more
