Hidden gem! Staffs were really nice. I got the Monday special for lunch and it was really filling! I had to pack it to go for dinner! Big portion for its price!

I'm a big fan of getting into local neighborhoods to try new restaurants so when I saw that this place has breakfast I stopped by to check it out. The place is a small neighborhood bar and restaurant with locals who all know each other and did the look at the outsider who walked in for breakfast. The breakfast menu is small but it is a bar so I ordered the West Dubuque breakfast which is hash browns, two eggs, toast and choice of meat. The lady asked me if I wanted cheese or onions in my hash browns so I say yes with onions and sunny side up eggs, sausage patties and white toast. I ordered a Bloody Mary with my breakfast which was kind of pathetic and basic with no celery salt I noticed. When my plate hit the table I'm thinking what the F is this because the eggs were over med and not one onion in my hash browns, what the F did you even ask me then. Was this even my order and how do you mess up 2 of 4 items when you wrote it on the check. She stopped back and said that she messed up my eggs and I said no onions in the hash browns either and she says the bloody is no charge. The hash browns were pretty good cooked golden/crispy with that soft center that I like. The sausage patties were moist but a commercial mild kind. The eggs were over medium and not sunny side up like I ordered and the toast was the generic white. This would have naan a good breakfast if it was how I ordered it. To my surprise the check said no charge merry Christmas but it was a good breakfast but just not my breakfast and I'm not looking for a free meal so I tipped her $10 and said merry Christmas and I walked out, maybe she was just having a bad morning.

Magic Muffin pork tenderloin with the sausage gravy. Highly recommended!!!!!

Stopped here for breakfast today with a friend. I've eaten lunch n dinner here previously, so as we searched for a breakfast place and this place showed up. Saw the picture of The Magic Muffin on the menu so it chose me. Our waitress suggested adding the gravy. I said "deal". Outstanding breakfast. Nice employees. The coffee comes included. What a deal! We will be back!

Great breakfast spot recommended by a friend! Fun neighborhood place with friendly, quick service. Had The World Cup on TV :-) They're known for their Magic Muffin and that did not disappoint. Also highly recommend the hash browns with cheese and onions.

So good ask always! Magic muffin with a side of gravy!

Recently, some close friends, my wife and I drove over to Dubuque for a weekend getaway. We love…read morefarm-to-table restaurant concepts and in-city dining, so we thought Convivium would be an ideal spot to have breakfast on our first day in town. As great as this place could (if not should) be, it will never reach it's potential with the lousy customer service that we experienced. Why do I say this? Read on Yelper. We arrive for breakfast around 9:45 am on Saturday. There was a little bit of a line, which is to be expected at any well known breakfast/brunch establishment, right? The young lady working the register asked if we wanted to pick a table outside, handed us four menus and told us that someone would be out there to help us shortly. We sat at an empty, yet still dirty with plates from the last customers, table that was in the shade. Annnnnd we waited. As staff came out to attend to other customers sitting in the same patio area, the four of us sat there waiting for water, coffee, a smile... heck even an acknowledgement that we were there would have been nice. Seriously, if the Invisible Man was real and sitting at the table, he probably would have had a better chance of being noticed by the servers working that morning. We ended up busing our own table because no staff would bother to do it - I'm very serious. Nearly 20 minutes pass. As another couple comes into the patio, sits down and gets near immediate service with their drink orders, we had it! We entered the restaurant to find out what the problem is for such terrible service?!? The tall, head service member (did not catch her name) had an attitude for sure with her question "Did one of us seat you?" and we answered that "No, your host teammate told us to grab the table." She damn near rolled her eyes. Finally, lightening struck... someone showed up to give us water, wipe the table, and take our order. But don't get your hopes up that this was the end of bad service. Regrettably, it was not. We waited nearly 25 more minutes to get our order of eggs, potatoes, bacon, and sausage. Tough order for a breakfast place, don'tcha think? Out comes the food... without utensils to eat with. 4 mins of watching your food get cold motivated us to good inside and get our own utensils. As we did, the head member walks out with the items. Now - let's shift to the one positive part of the experience and that of course is the food. To show you that I am a reasonable reviewer, I will tell you that the meal was very tasty, cooked to order, and satisfying (especially when you're starving!). When I said at the beginning that this place can be great, the food is the reason why. After a Friday night of fun, a place like Convivium is just what you want for a Saturday breakfast before an afternoon of NCAA College Football - you know what I mean? But until management decides to hold the staff accountable for this terrible customer service, Convivium will be closed in less than 5 years (my prediction). Read some of the other reviews... we share the same general opinion. And this is coming from someone that values restaurant concepts like this one. Get it together before its too late, Convivium.

What a disappointment. Yelp usually leads me to amazing spots, but this was a fail…read more I loved the concept and the cool vibe of the place but the food and the service were lacking the same luster. My dad, sister, and I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. My sister enjoyed her chicken pesto panini but Dad found his pulled pork to be dry and bland. I ordered broccoli cheese soup with sourdough toast. The soup was absolutely disgusting. It was so thick, overcooked, and tasted like it had been on a back burner for three days straight. Not to be gross, but it looked like congealed dog vomit. When I mentioned to our server, she was very condescending. I would like to try again and hopefully it was just a tough day.

Right from the start the hostess was rude. I thought maybe it was me, but observed her rude to others. This is a restaurant's first chance to set the tone, and she is not doing them any justice. My SIL got the broasted chicken and said it was tasty as well. If you like chicken, it would be worth trying. Sadly I got a Mushroom and Swiss burger and it was fine. I always get burgers well done from a food safety perspective. It was medium at best. We already waited 40 minutes for food so I didn't send it back. The server never came back to ask how our food was either. My niece got a grilled cheese on the kid's menu. It was 90% bread for a 4 year old. Parents don't get this option! It's not worth the money. I know they were busy so trying to be respectful of that. Unfortunately the service was slow, the staff lacking and the food average to below, so go for a drink but choose your food wisely.
