After studying abroad in Rome for nearly 5 months, traveling around a good portion of Italy, then traveling BACK to Italy two years later.. nothing can ever compare to old bridge. You would never guess the little gelateria directly in between the Vatican and Vatican museums with the English name would be as amazing as it is. I was a bit surprised to find this little gem. I wasn't expecting much, but the gelato here was in the top two for best gelato I had while in Europe. It might have been the best, but both were so good that I'd have to try them side by side... if only! We tried the Nutella and the Carmello. I much preferred the Carmello, but both were great. The price here was less than what we'd seen other places and the portions were huge! We ordered the small cones that were only 2 Eurors each, but they loaded quite a bit of gelato in there. Also got the dark chocolate and creme (vanilla or something), which were good. They put whip cream on top of your cone too. 3 flavors for 1.50. I handed the guy a 20 thinking it was 3 euros but 1.50 for big ass servings + whip cream? I struggled a little eating it before the 90 degree sun got to it first! Totally lives up to the hype. Located on the north side of the Vatican, on the other side of the street, Oldbridge is easy to miss. There are no seats - everything is to-go. The gelato I had was quite tasty, but then I think they're all tasty, so I may be a bad judge. Service was nice and quick, prices seemed fair (especially with all the tourist ripoff a adjacent to the Vatican), and the portion size was generous. If you want to wait in line for a limited selection of flavors and then get yelled at for your order before you've even had a chance to look at what they have, this is the place to go. The people standing at the counter block the view of the gelatos and they don't have their flavors listed anywhere; a rude 20 year-old kid then yelled at my family for not knowing what we want when were still standing two rows of people back and couldn't see anything. Instead, we left and went to Gelato Silciliana (Via Tunisi 3/B) which has more eflavors, is incredibly delicious, and the owner is very friendly. Do not miss this place! We left the Vatican museum with no energy, feeling super tired. Thought of rewarding ourselves with a gelato. Saw this small place and doubted although there was a line. Decided to try it out and this is the best gelato I've tried in Rome (haven't been to all of course but have tried the best rated gelaterias on yelp so far). Nevertheless, this place is a staple of this tourist-heavy area. And with my three week business trip to Rome, I found myself at this Gelato shop many times. Old Bride is one of those special places for me in Rome, with great memories spent with friends sitting in the piazza and enjoying some wonderful gelato. My particular favorite combination here is fragole e limone (strawberry and lemon).
