Apparently the torch has been passed to another generation of ownership. They seem to be using that torch to burn the place to the ground. Gone, are people whom you may have known for years, and years. Some of the most experienced and best servers and bartenders were shown the door, with more than a decade of service to the restaurant. People who parents and grandparents have brought to see, year in , and year out. GM. AGM. New rules. You don't like mashed potatoes? Want double veg? No. Food from order to table can take 30 to 40 minutes because the kitchen is overwhelmed perpetually because they don't know how to control seating at the restaurant. I had one bartender who was so clueless that the poor lady sitting next to me was trying to get a check for 20 minutes before she could finally get the woman's attention. And she wasn't doing all that much. Just walking up and down the bar but leaving our area out of her view zone. Gone is the friendly vibe. In are the snippy new people who are the restaurant mercenaries that generally work here and there and don't really care where they are because the job is a job. All at lofty prices that would make even a steakhouse, in London, with the exchange rate, blush, in embarrassment. This is not what a family run, quality old school restaurant looks like. This is now high-end Applebees. It was my go to for a great steak. Now I wouldn't walk into the place again. One of the managers told me that a new broom sweeps clean. It will have plenty of opportunities to do so because the regular is coming back from a year away for a season are going to be in for a very rude awakening about how this place runs. Absolutely incredible! Best stake I've ever had, hands down. This restaurant was highly recommended to me by one of my coworkers and she did not lie. From the service, decor to the food everything was astounding. Our server was super nice and knowledgeable, very accommodating and friendly. As was anyone else you interacted with at the restaurant. We went early, around 5:30, and only had a short wait time as they put tables together for our party. The bread was warm and fresh, delicious rolls with cheese on top. Asparagus were perfectly cooked, and flavorful. Mashed potatoes were super smooth and creamy. Now the star of the show was the Delmonico stake, on the most flavorful and buttery stakes I've ever had. The stake was perfectly cooked and seasoned, melted in your mouth. The bone marrow butter was an incredible enhancement, adding an extra hit of salty and fatty to the stake that took it to the next level. The truffle butter was incredible as well, you could taste the truffle without it overpowering the delicious flavor of the steak. OK, I don't know what I can sat that hasn't already been said about the Okeechobee steakhouse. It's a grand old institution that's been here for 60+ years maybe more. The thick wood paneling, the opulent chandeliers are very welcoming. Large oversized booths with leather backs and comfortable seating make you want to sit for quite a long while. Our server JC was on point with everything. His quite helpful and his service. As always, the food was prepared perfectly. My filet mignon was juicy and tender. My baked potato was plump and filled the cheese and bacon my butt mushrooms cooked and sautéed exactly the way I wanted it. The entire experience from beginning to end was wonderful. read more

My friend and I had a wonderful meal here. The Okeechobee Steak House has been open since 1947, and it is very apparent why they have stayed open so long. The bread appetizer was warm, fresh and had a perfect amount of crunch. Our server brought out a tray of the different cuts of steaks and gave a great explanation of what each kind was and the different types of marbling, which was a nice touch. I chose the Del Monaco with mashed potatoes and we also ordered a side of the broccoli and it was to die for. I made a reservation, but it was super crowded & loud. We got the lychee and the bee drink to start. Both were fresh and delicious. Lychee was very sweet tasting. Our server was extremely accomodating and kind. I didn't catch his name, but he was really great. My friend and I shared the items we ordered. For appetizers, we ordered the thick cut bacon and the wedge salad. The bacon was freaking AMAZING!!!! It had sambal glaze, blue cheese and scallions. You have to order this as a starter. The wedge was one of the freshest wedges I've ever tasted. It consisted of iceberg lettuce, bleu cheese, red onion, bacon and tomato. Fresher than fresh. For our main course, it was recommended by our waiter to order the Delmonico as my friend and I were looking for a tender, "melt in your mouth" type of cut. As a side, we ordered the roasted Brussels sprouts. Holy moly the steak was PHENOMENAL!!! Truly melted in my mouth and we ordered it cooked medium. Truly cooked to perfection. The Brussels were also fantastic. They had artisan bleu cheese, candied bacon, and chili vinaigrette. We passed on desert as we were too full. Last night a group of 5 of us, 3 who were in town from NY for a few days, went to dinner here after driving up from Fort Lauderdale. We have in the past many times and always had a great experience. Last night was different. It sucked. Rachel our server spent most of the night having to overcompensate for the restaurants short-comings. App took over 45 minutes to get to the table and one (shrimp cocktail) was entirely forgotten. Pointed it out to Rachel they forgot it. It did not get better. Everything took forever. We had 4:30 reservations in efforts to avoid the Saturday dinner rush and while we got there before it got crowded that did nothing to streamline the process. Salads and soup came eventually. Then the steaks. At $100+ a steak you want it right. My brothers medium rare Ribeye came out well done and beyond. A new steak was supposed to be coming. The 4 others of us finished our steaks, my brothers new steak never came and we finally said to forget it. We found out they were under new management since the last time we were there and sadly the new management is sub-par at best. The manager did eventually come over and was rude and short. He acted like not charging us for the steak that never came was a prize and we should have been grateful for that. We have loved dinners at Okeechobee over the years but this last experience has led us to believe there are better places we should explore as the standard of service and professionalism here have dwindled. With an $800 bill the last thing I should be doing is coming to Yelp and posting how bad of an experience we had. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were letting their very older gentleman drink past his limit. He began to become very loud and obnoxious. It made us ready to leave. We really enjoyed our meal here. To start, we used valet because parking yourself is almost impossible so just plan for that. The valet was so nice and welcoming. Our waitress was also amazing. It was our first time in, and for a birthday, so she took the time to explain everything. She brought out a tray to show us what the steak options looked like (and later same with dessert). We started with salads. Both the wedge and Caesar were amazing and easily big enough to share if you wanted too. We both got filets. They were cooked perfectly. We chose the mashed potatoes and creamed corn as sides and both were perfectly prepared. For dessert we shared a piece of house made Red Velvet cake and it was delicious. Our reservation was for 8:30 and it was still rather noisy when we first got there but as the crowd cleared it got quieter, which we prefer, so if you are looking for a quiet date night dinner book a later reservation. Have to mention the bread too. A basket of rolls with butter. Omg yum. But of course the star of the show was the steak, and wow was that fantastic. Really truly exceptional. Cooked perfectly, with a light crust, perfectly seasoned. Honestly amazing. We had some mushrooms and onions on the side, both really good. Our desserts were also very good. I'd say they were probably the least interesting part of the meal, nothing blew us away, but they were all still pretty solid. We had a carrot cake, a key lime pie, a regular.cheesecake, and a pistachio crème brule. Crème brule I'd say was the best, IMO. Huge portions also. Overall I'd say this is really the best of the steakhouses. I've tried quite a few (a LOT) and Okeechobee is really just hands down superior. My work team treated me to a gift card last year for my 20 year work anniversary. I finally used it last month and invited my little brother as my plus one. We started with the crab stuffed mushrooms and enjoyed a copious amount of the delicious rolls with branded butter. We also split a Caesar salad. For the entrée, we shared the Porterhouse for two paired with mashed potatoes and steak fries. The steak was ordered rare and we opted for Pittsburgh-style. Literally, they served it cooked to perfection and the presentation was beautiful. We were beyond stuffed after this meal and didn't have room for dessert. Honestly, ever since they axed the peanut butter pie, I don't really care to order dessert. However, I did learn it is available for purchase at the market when I shared this insight with our server. He was phenomenal and our meal was served rather quickly considering it was a full house. Per usual, I'm never disappointed with the food nor service. I was disappointed on the night that we stopped in that they didn't have marrow bones nor veal chops on the menu. The smoked cocktail was showy and good. The steaks were cooked properly. The carrots were charred, but so hard that they didn't seem cooked. The snails with the puff pastry top were showy, but too big for the amount of sauce provided. We ordered a salad to share and they split it for us, which was appreciated. My companions didn't like seeing the meat cuts raw, but I liked the clear explanation. I ordered the 28oz bone in ribeye and am disappointed to say it was the worst steak I've ever had. Steaks Okeechobee is one of the old-school bastions of steak and they always deliver a fantastic experience. This place has been around for many years and it is what you expect of a steak house in the way of ambiance: Dark wood, superb service staff and even very good bartenders make this a place that you will want to hit over and over. To say I have never had a bad meal here is an understatement - they are always spot on and my guest have all raved about it after visiting there. I won't dive into the details of the meats - they do it all correctly from aging to cooking. Sides are as expected and the wine list does not disappoint. I tend to go early when meeting people there to hit the bar for a glass of wine - and have often times ended up just eating at the bar as well. I always enjoy my visits to Okeechobee Steak House. Like many steak houses, it has an old school high-class feeling. I went with a decent sized group - several adults and children. We were able to sit in a private space called (based on the sign on the wall) the Bourbon Room. Our server was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. We were able to see all the steak options and choose accordingly. I've had a few of their offerings on previous visits, but I went with the filet steak tips. The serving size is ample and the taste is fantastic - with plenty of steak fries to boot. I assume things got busy at the restaurant later on because after our group got dessert it took a while to get the check, but that was the only minor hiccup. Also, the restaurant has limited parking directly next to it, so plan for a short walk from the lot behind. read more
