I've not been to the actual store yet, only ever ordered from just-eat.ie but I've been impressed each time! There's loads of yummy Japanese menu items ( okonomiyaki, takoyaki, agedashi tofu, even an unagidon?!) that you don't come by often in Japanese establishments around Ireland. My usual order is a pork katsudon - they make a mean katsudon here. If you've never tried it, it's essentially a breaded and fried pork cutlet cooked in this savory sweet dashi based sauce with scrambled eggs and onions. All of this goes on Okayu's delicious rice. Amazing. I also go for a unagi handroll (eel with unagi sauce, it's a teriyaki like thick sauce). Yum. Okayu makes any sad day a happy day for me. I'd like to give 4.5 stars. My only dissatisfaction is very strong Japanese (Chinese?) accent. I had quite difficult time to communicate to the girl, who took order. Menu is big, selection is great. You can get many many dishes of your choice. I ordered food for €32 and got free misu soup. Beware, they didn't include spoon, so, either you ask for it or make sure you have one. Ordered one of the bento boxes. Loved it!. Everything is provided inside. Delivery was very snappy. Delivery guy was friendly. I messed up with the payment, but he kept cool and smiling :) That's how you do it! Tho, shame on me, should of left some tips for your man, but as I said, I messed up and forgot 'bout good manners. Next time I'll tip off them. Zis iz "silent h"ey promise. I don't know why two thin slices of salmon on maybe a teaspoon of rice is worth 3.75 euros, but alright. This is a decent place to order from for average Japanese food if you're just hungry. They deliver fast but the quality of the fish and rice is just not there. You could say that the food was so average, I forgot I had even ordered from here. I love this place. The people out front, I'm not sure are they the owners are not, are the most polite and pleasant staff you could imagine. While waiting on our food we've been given Japanese tea and wasabi nuts, and also a lollipop for the young fella. And as for the food! It's extremely good. Beautifully presented bento boxes superior to many better known establishments in town. Fresh as you like sushi, melt in the mouth stuff. Gyoza, calamari, beef noodles, tofu, all of it extremely high quality, bursting with flavours, and with that 'clean' edge that comes with good quality Japanese food, which certainly sets it apart from many other Asian restaurants in the area, serving the sort of greasy fare that has become synoymous with Chinese take-aways in Ireland. Okayu's food is on par with what one who's eaten his way around half the world (that would be me, sweetheart) would expect from a sushi place in a city where patrons give this place 4 stars even after deducting a point for spoonless miso soup (ahem, it's not supposed to come with one, lieutenant bento-san!). If you've never had Uni that melts in your mouth or don't know the difference between the kind of sake you sip and the kind you eat with chopsticks, just ignore my review, you'll probably love the chicken teriyaki so long as you remember to request it skinless (don't forget to ask for a spoon for your Miso soup!). But, if you're from any place you consider to have a decent international food scene, check your expectations at the curb. I'm sure the owners kind of hate serving 'watered down' Japanese food, but judging from what I saw/overheard from other customers while I was there, there's simply no way Okayu could get away with keepin' it real. (I wonder how many people come here expecting fortune cookies to be included with their take-away.) +1 star for the owners having to regretfully dilute the authenticity of their food just to please their clientele who innocently just don't know any better. read more

I was surprised to see a Japanese restaurant while walking in Dublin 3, so I decided to check it out later. I called the restaurant that evening and the lady was extremely polite, a refreshing change for D3. The interior (yes of a take away) is worth a look if you live nearby, it is beautiful. I loved the Origami decorations in particular. Anyway, about the food...I had the Tempura Udon. It was authentic, cooked to perfection and packed in separate cardboard boxes- a nice touch. This is small take-away restaurant; no tables to eat there. The menu contains classical Sushi. I had tuna and salmon maki as well as spicy tuna roll and maki made with soft-shell-crab. Last one was a poor creature... Just thought it has a new dress to impress its friends; not expecting what happens next... bad luck for the crab, happiness for me! It was delicious! The hot tuna roll was special because made with creamy cheese. Well... why not, but I would have preferred to have it in a classical way. Furthermore I did not experience any "hotness". For stars for being fresh (I am well alive ) and tasty as a normal Sushi-Restaurant plus having soft-shell-crab. No five stars because it is nothing special. Moved in around the corner recently. Big Japanese food fan so was really excited to try this place. First time I tried to order, I requested a very minor alteration to the Bento Box sushi due to an allergy, and made it clear I was willing to pay extra for this. They flatly refused and failed to suggest an alternative so I cancelled the order. Never actually got to try the food but they need to work on the customer service. read more

The north strand road has little going for it, a busy road with a scattering of basic takeaways that will do little for soul. Okayu is a breath of fresh air. I took a double take when i first saw it and was happy it wasn't a mirage. It's not in the most noticeable location and you could easily walk past without noticing it just before the annessley bridge going north. I have tried their sushi (spider & Rainbow roll) and both were delicious and generous. I have also tried the Tako Yaki which was yum. Staff are friendly and will give you a warming cup of green tea while you wait. I love a business that takes a gamble on location and wish this place every success. read more

This place opened recently, and man, it is a miracle. Authentic Japanese street food, in an area where fish and chips is as exotic as it gets. The okonomiyaki is delicious (and huge), and I'm a big fan of their BBQ eel and rice. The sushi's good too (if a little limited in options), but this place is really about the grilled stuff. For lighter fare, try the avocado tofu salad -- the dressing is a revelation. Quick delivery, though the driver seems not to know the area very well so far. read more

Okayu is awesome! Didn't think I could eat that well from a takeaway. Since it was my first time ordering from Okayu I went for the safe option of Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box. Everything in it was delicious and overall very filling, didn't even finish my rice. Delivery was pretty quick and the food was well packaged for the trip meaning it was very presentable when it arrived. Definitely ordering from here again. read more

This is a gem of a takeaway on the North Strand. Great addition to the area. The staff are extremely polite and friendly and serve IMO the best sushi in Dublin. The menu is varied favourites include the Rainbow Roll, Spider Roll, Yaki Soba and the chef special pancake . I highly recommend this place. read more

I had to nibble a bit of one star for the okonomiyaki. Drowned in mayo and other sauces. Left me an unhappy bunny. Then the rest of the missing fifth star lost for crimes against tuna rolls with more mayo streaks. It's a cute little venue in which to await your takeaway order. The sashimi was lovely. This is the best take away by a mile , everything is so fresh . And it's location hides what fantastic food it produces . The sushi is freshly made , the gyoza just can't get enough of them favourite dish is Okonomi Yaki a Japanese style pancake heat dish lovely hot or cold , I drive I from raheny to get it which a 5 mile journey each way . read more

UPDATED: I changed my review from 1 star 4. The restaurant staff called next day, apologized for the bad experience we had (their order system or smth was down) and offered us free dinner for 2. Which they delivered in 30 mins, and it was delicious. I appreciate very much their willingness to acknowledge and to fix the faulty service!!! I will be back again, since the sushi were good in the first place. DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY if you do not plan to starve yourself. We have ordered dinner for 4, with estimated delivery time 30-40 mins... Well, in 1 hour we tried to reach Okayu via phone without any success, they were just not picking up the phone. In 1.5 hrs, we ordered taxi to go out for dinner, that's when we received the call from the delivery guy at our doorsteps.
