But thankfully as we sat in the car looking at the hours on our phone, the young man who does double duty as the adjacent store clerk, as well as waiter popped out to let us know it was safe to come in. The food is unassuming, totally homemade in the best and worst way possible, and everything is very specific to this family. The flavor profiles of ALL dishes are perfectly balanced, and while some meats are severely overcooked, that's probably for the best. Will it take us 12 years to return? Likely not, as popping in last night has put it back on our radar. But even still, due to the totally bizarre location, it's going to take some effort to make it back. The dipping sauce was unusual--clear and savory/sweet with crushed peanuts, similar to the dressing for Vietnamese bun--but it was greatly enjoyable and I ate the last few drops with my rice. The curry may have been the best I've had all year. I'm serious. I'm a huge curry snob and it was expertly spiced, everything smooth and balanced with just the right hint of sweetness. The shrimp and chicken were cooked perfectly and all were served over a plentiful bowl of white rice in a large bowl in a light gravy. (Brown rice is also available if you desire). While i am not a drinker, QQ Kitchen does offer alcoholic beverages. Two workers came in, sat at the bar and enjoyed drinks with their meals. One of the men said to me, "Isn't this place great? Delicious, tender meat, texture of the carbs were perfect. I do recall that the fish sauce was just a tad too fish for the vermicelli dish, but that might have been us adding too much of it in to make up for something else, but overall not bad. It obviously doesn't beat what you can find in Little Saigon, California, but if you're all the way out here, it works.
