This is a childhood favorite of my wife's. It is pretty good. They have a thing called double refried beans that you can order with your meal instead of the normal charro beans. It is ridiculous. They must run them through an emulsion blender and put an extra scoop of lard in them. Nothing on the menu is questionable to me. Menudo and vegetable soup is served in the weekends. What can I say, this place rocks! My favorite Mexican food in Dallas. The cheese enchiladas (with gravy sauce) topped with beef fajita is just too good. I'd eat here every other day if I weren't worried about an expanding girth lol! The staff is always super friendly and the managers/owners make me feel like family. Very cozy, friendly atmosphere. We have eaten here twice now and I would give it a solid 3 stars. The food is more like the mexican food that you get in south Texas which is what I like since I am from there. It is NOT like On the Border or anything fancy. If you are hoping for fancy keep looking. Nothing fancy here just good food. Yes they use processed cheese, like most south Texas mexican places do, so if you don't like it then move on. Taco meat in the puffy tacos is grwat flavor. Cheese enchiladas were great as well. Ojeda's is a Dallas institution that has been around forever. I was glad that they opened a branch here in Plano. We went for lunch to try it out. Waitress was attentive to our needs. Complimentary chips and salsa were good with just the right amount of heat in the salsa. Enchiladas were really good and the refried beans tasted fresh. The Spanish rice was on the dry side. Small margarita was pricey at 6.50 that was 4 ounces. Will definitely come back next time the wife needs an enchilada fix. Probably won't do the margaritas. The chips were warm and tasty, the salsa was spicy just the way i like it! We ordered Swirl Margarita's, they had a Great taste! Lunch enchiladas here are 8:25. When I asked for a cheee one without the chile con carne (meat) sauce, the server told me it would be a dollar extra. A dollar to not include meat?!? I tried to make it clear that I was happy with any sauce that did not include meat or no sauce at all and she told me the substitutions for lunch specials always cost. This is my first and probably only time to try this place. I hadn't really heard the best things about Ojeda's, but my sister is a die hard Tex Mex addict and we had been driving around for hours with a crying baby and parched mouths looking for something, anything for dinner when I spotted Ojeda's tucked away in a little shopping center in Plano. "Stop! There!" I yelled and pointed, causing my sister's Malibu to careen wildly across three lanes of rush hour Plano traffic. She's a driving champ. We ordered beef and cheese enchiladas, tamales and fajita tacos and everything was very tasty. Sometimes I have to close my eyes to my heritage and just chant "it's a different animal, it's a different animal" when I see such abortions against good taste and humanity as chili sauce atop tamales, because they're actually very tasty. Just hard to accept. Unnatural. My fajita tacos were supposed to come in a fried tortilla, but my cardiologist rang just at that moment and prompted me to ask for a plain corn tortilla instead. They were quite good, albeit a tad dry for my personal blood dripping tastes. I'm sure my overcooking husband would have loved their charred bits. The salsa and guacamole were both delicious, the pico could've used a touch more kick, but you never know what you're getting with these genetically modified jalapeos anymore. I am a top shelf marg snob (and proud of it!) and knew after the first sip that I would only be having one as I had to drive home to Addison. Really strong, but so tasty and smooth. Darn it !!! Need to sign up with a limo service on my nights out imbibing in top shelf margaritas !!! We decided to share chicken fajitas for one, knowing it would be plenty for both of us. And it was, along with all the sides. Moist tender blackened chicken with tons of sauteed onions and peppers, An adequate meal size for us both. Loved the soft corn tortillas with the milder salsa which we requested. The refried beans were smokey and creamy, and surprisingly the rice was also tender and not dried out. Along with sour cream, pico and guacamole, it was an exceptional meal. Service was excellent, attentive and there when we needed it. First impressions for Ojeda were bad. Very bad. I started writing my Yelp review shortly after I sat down. The chips tasted funny and the salsa was disgusting. It was something like mildly spicy, watered down ketchup. Gross. The menu lacks any real descriptions and I felt worried about our upcoming meal. My father and I decided on what we wanted, and also got some guacamole and queso. That was, after our waiter FINALLY came back to us. I was pleasantly surprised with the guacamole, it tasted freshly made. The queso wasn't fantastic, but it wasn't the worst I've ever had. Our main courses were really a surprise. They were quite tasty. I got a cheese quesadilla, which had cheese melted on top too, and was served with a generous helping of guac. Yum! My dad's dish was something with large chunks of meat, but he said it was great as well. Our main dishes really turned around our opinion of this place. We went last night for dinner, and I am ALLLL about some chips and salsa. When we sat down, I was pleased to see that their salsa was in pitchers that they leave on your table. The crap red lava (that was in the pitcher) was wayyyy TOO HOT! I had to ask for "normal...less caliente" salsa, which they did provide. The salsa they gave me tasted homemade...which was pleasant. When you're served their salsa...they should give you the option of "normal", or "hot lava". I had the chicken sour cream enchiladas, which were actually pretty decent. I thought I'd order a margarita on the rocks, and it SUCKED (liquid garbage with a salt rim)! MY margarita tasted like Tang-lemonade with a hint of tequila. At this spot, I think you'd be better off ordering a frozen one. *(Small margarita = 5.00, Large = 7.00). Our waitress was nice, but after our meal, we waited about 15+ minutes for her to finally bring our check out. This is a local spot, that's kid friendly. If you want ambiance, this is not your place. I really wanted to like this place. Less than two miles from the house. I pass it weekly. We've been in the area 10 years and now I know why we've never been. My sixth sense of sniffing out bad food was keeping me away. After a very long day Wednesday I decided take out from here would be the easiest. $40+ later, boy was I wrong. First the positives: The service here is excellent. Fast, accurate and delivered with a smile. The enchiladas. Not great. Might not beat cafeteria enchiladas, but this was the best of the 2 1/2 meals. The beans were good. Again will not stand out compared to anyone else's beans, but in that take out bag, this average batch were headliners. You know a place is awful when the beans are one of the stars of the meal. The rice - see comments on beans above. Now to the awful. The steak fajitas smelled good, looked good and even tasted good (if you can keep it down), but the texture was GAGGY! This meat was either over cooked or out of a can. It crumbled like Dinty Moore canned beef stew. Yuck! The worst of the order was the 1/2 meal. Ordered a chile relleno on the side. It was described as an Anaheim pepper battered, deep fried and stuffed with beef and cheese, in the menu. What came out was a long thin battered tasteless, enchilada thin, stuffed pepper drowned in a runny cheessy sauce. I know anaheims come in all shapes but this one is more like a banana pepper. The batter was this 1/4 inch thick doughy impenetrable mess. I figured just peel off this spackle and eat the stuffed pepper, but the pepper fell apart. The stuffing was more like a beef paste with an occasional cube of onion. The salsa was like Pace. Vinegary and thick but at the same time runny. No spice, not really any taste, just vinegary. The sopapillas were tough to chew. Again smelled great, look great, tasted great. Maybe Ojeda's suffered from execution this night. I half-read all the other reviews and not one of the four stars ordered the same food as I did. Perhaps this review is saying, stay away from these items not stay away from this restaurant. Just as good as the Dallas location. I have never eaten at Ojedas in Plano. It is so close to my home, I can spit from my apartment window onto their sidewalk. Actually, it is not that close to my home. Having eaten at the one in Dallas and having loved their food, I came by to try out their food. The ambience is that of a strip mall. So I have seen this place since the good ol days when it was Mi Cantina...then about 11 years ago it changed name to Ojeda's and it always looked busy. Today I went in and tried it for the first time in 11 years...Now I wish I had kept the years go by and have never stepped foot in this establishment. First problem the salsa the buster tossed onto our table was from another table and the mouth of the dispenser was thickly caked and packed showing that it's been more then an hour outside of the fridge...salsa not below 40°F. Second, the food that came out was excessively oily, and old corn tortillas that have an rancid taste. The food here is comparable to a bad day at Denny's. Third the water...just plain water has not only an oder, but horrendous taste as it was pulled from the grease trap. Rice they gave with our fajita was dry flaky, and no better then school lunch serving Spanish Rice. Food: below sub par Service: ok Price: moderate Cleanliness: mystery Ambience: not bad Better to go Blue Goose then here. Right off the bat we sat down, we are brought out a basket of chips and im sitting there for five minutes thinking to myself "are they going to bring us salsa with those or what??" Oh but the salsa was already there. Salsa in a plastic jar equivalent to what Ihop puts their pancake syrup in.. and it just looks gross, I'm not a germaphobe but I didn't really want to touch that thing. The salsa was hot but flavorless. The chips were not good. I ordered a coke, I was brought a diet coke. We were off to a good start... I ordered some platter with a chili relleno, sour cream chicken enchilada and a puff taco. the puff taco was kinda cute to look at, but not easy to eat. the rest of the food was pretty blek. I LOVE cheese. I am always wondering what can I get that has tons of cheese. but these people take it to another level. I couldn't even see my enchilada or chili relleno underneath the ten pounds of melted cheese, and it completely drowned out whatever flavor there may have been. Sometimes, less is more. and this is definitely the case here. The 2 cheese enchilada plate was either $11 or $12. At an extremely casual tex-mex restaurant. I don't understand how they could charge more than even $8 for what my bf got. Taco Cabana does a better job for a lot cheaper. I did not care for the environment either, the seating arrangement is weird.. the booth we were seated as was in a corner but there was still a giant cut out in the wall so you see the people on the other side of you.. the main reason i like a booth is because I don't like feeling like there are people surrounding me.. there was no escaping it! It took forever to get our check, and then the check was hand written where I couldn't even make it out, and the lady wouldn't even hand it to me.. she just kinda showed it to me, staring at me as i glanced over the scribbles and was wanting me to directly hand her my card without saying a single word to me the whole time, it was very awkward. Not great, not bad. I think Ojeda's is worth a second try. Salsa- so-so; a little generic. Chips were tasty, but not warm. I will admit that if I don't like the chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant, It's an uphill battle from there on out. I ordered the chicken flautas dinner. The flautas were "pretty good". The guacamole that came on the side was some of the blandest guacamole I have ever tasted. It was odd. My husband ordered one of the combination plates- I don't recall what all came on it, but he seemed to enjoy it. Service was fine, prices were fair. For about a year, I've been on the hunt for great, authentic Mexican food, I think I may have found the closest thing anyone in North Dallas can get as far as authentic Mexican cuisine is concerned. This establishment takes the key ingredients of a typical dish yet incorporates that southern comfort technique, thus, catering to the non-believers and to those who are afraid to stray away from the norm that is known as Tex-Mex. Just do it. Take that leap and dive in. I had ordered the chile rellenos (with meat, i believe it'd be a lot tastier if it were just cheese), sour cream chicken enchilada, and a beef puffed taco. First off, the puffed taco? Yeah, I don't see what's so great about it. Plus, I had a big clump of lard in the shell. Yummy? It was poorly made, nothing extravagant in the presentation. However, the chile rellenos was great the first few bites, after you got to at least half of it, it just started getting a bit too much. If you're a big eater, definitely get the one with the ground beef inside, it'll fill you up pretty quick. The flavors weren't as strong as I would have liked. The cheesy toppings were to die for, needed a bit a salt. The batter was a bit thick and it meshed with the filling quite well (key in southern double dip batter factor), the chile was well stuffed, nothing really took away from the flavor too much, still needed a kick. The sour cream enchilada wasn't all that either. Salt your food, add more hot sauce, change up the taco seasoning, something. The cheese, sour cream overpour had a gravy base which again, queue's the southern comfort appeal that majority Texans adore. I think the cheese was the best part of either dish, to be honest. The service was very chill and laid back, service wasn't slow at all and freshly heated bottomless chips and salsa were served. Kudos. I'm only giving it three stars because it's good for what it is, however, unfortunately for this establishment, I've had better. FOR TEXAS, this is a diamond in the rough. read more

When we finally did get seated we were asked twice for a drink order. When we got them they rarely got filled. The food was the saving grace of this place. The steak fajitas were excellent. My friend and I used to go to the Ojeda's on Maple for lunch twice a week when we worked together. I decided to take her to the Ojeda's in Plano for her birthday. We had excellent service and excellent food. It was just like Maple Avenue. The server was very attentive and when he found out it was my birthday, he brought her strawberry ice cream. I've been going to Ojeda's in Dallas for many, many years. The original location on Maple is still the best, and many of their suburban expansion efforts have come and gone over the years. Most of them failed to capture the full magic and flavor of the original (a few exceptions, most notably the Lewisville and DeSoto locations). The Plano spot is another win for the family-run business. It's not in a great location - you won't get lots of date points since it's pretty casual and in a strip shopping center. But the food is so good! Service is fast and efficient. I'm a regular and the manager often visits me when I come in. Take-out orders are also always quick and easy. Atmosphere is family friendly and ultra-casual. My favorite - the puffed beef tacos! Nobody makes them like Ojeda's. But the reason I keep going back to Ojeda's after all these years - chips and salsa. They have my favorite salsa in Dallas - it's not too chunky, and it's good and spicy (most places have salsa that is much too mild for me). read more

Consistent, quick, friendly service and great classic tex-mex entrees as well as some traditional Mexican fare. Things I love about Ojedas: Salsa on the table. The basic cheese nachos - they Rock the hizzy. Nice beer selection and always served with a frozen mug. Breakfast served all day. The ground beef. Well seasoned and kinda saucy. The salsa tastes like its mixed with cholula or Tapatio so its bitter like vinegar and feels like a punch in the throat. The mild salsa does not have cholula in it so make sure you ask for it. My mother ordered a cheese enchilada meal and received a beef enchilada. We got the correct enchilada and she gagged when she took a bite. I ordered tortilla soup and it looked like they boiled unseasoned chicken with pico de gallo in it and an avocado slice. I could see through the water straight to the bottom of my bowl. Nothing hearty or flavorful here! Saying it lacked flavor would be an understatement!!!! My mom took 2 bites of her food and I took a few sips of my soup and we paid and left. I tipped the waitress because she was polite & fast but i wont be back. We did not take the leftovers. I'm from Los Angeles and I'm acutely aware that there is no place like home when it comes to good Mexican food... but this was a horrible experience.
