I was a little hesitant to order sushi in Madera. Last night my son came over with some sushi he had left over from takeout he had ordered. It was great. Turns out my son knew the chef from a restaurant he went to in Fresno. Tonight my wife and I decided give a try. It was great. So glad we have a first class sushi restaurant in Madera. This is the best sushi I've had in the Fresno/ Madera area (and I've tried them all). The owner was extremely welcoming and came up to our table to see how everything was. Tonight's sushi and sashimi were very good. The last couple of times I ate at Oishii I did not like the rice in the sushi-it was too sweet. I've been here many times. I called to let them know my chicken katsu was over cooked to the point of being burnt. The "owner" told me sorry there was nothing she could do. I thought maybe a discount or something would've ve been given. I've spent lots of $$ here for my whole family. For being a small business i thought they'd be a little nicer to their customers. I am a frequent customer of Oishii express in Madera. I was delighted to discover this place just basically a block away from my apartment. Sashimi and sushi rolls are my topmost all-time favorites. I usually order Salmon Sashimi and Philly roll from this place. Who would've thought we'll get something wonderful like this in Madera? Jada is very familiar with our orders like we eat there every day. Hahaha It's comforting to eat something good after a hard day's work. Nasty 7.99 chicken salad . Salad pictured on the menu isn't even the salad you get, hope you're ready to pay for $8 bagged salad. After a few bites into the salad, I instantly wanted to puke, barely made it to the bathroom. After throwing I went to an employee and the owner and they refused to refund my money, but offered to remake me the salad that just made me sick and said whatever I ate within 36 hours made me sick not their food. Literally the worst customer service. I asked for a side of teriyaki and siracha and she placed two packets and a half filled little cup of teriyaki in my bag. When I went to pay the $1 charge for it, they refused to take my card because they would be charged for it and then proceeded to take of the two packets of siracha, and teriyaki. Like are you serious? No sense of true, quality customer service. We have been going to Fresno for sushi for over twenty years. I was able to attend the Madera Oishii's grand opening and have been back 5 times. The tempura is excellent, the sushi and sashimi is first rate and the staff is better than the food. All I know is that Oishii will only get better and bigger over time. We normally go to the Oishii's off of Ashlan in Fresno but we live in Madera so this is great that it's so close.. we have gotten it twice so far and hopefully it continues to be just as good as the other one considering the cooks were in training when we ordered. Best Japanese food in town. Have eaten there several times and food and sushi is typically excellent. Chicken was slightly undercooked one time and do not love that they charge for and have signs everywhere saying they charge for sauce. Had already swiped my card and forgot to ask for 2 sauces with my 3 orders. Cashier actually had me re-swipe my card instead of just giving me the sauce. Without those 2 issues in several times eating here I would have rated 5 stars. read more

The food looked better than it tasted. However this location is in Madera. They are over priced for the location. I ordered bacon fried rice, a shrimp tempura roll and tempura vegetables. The rice was tasty, but the bacon was soggy asif the price was pre-cooked and microwaved or heated up. There were large chunks of alleged back in the rice. We did not eat it. The tempura vegetable were the most decent of all the food. Tasteless as far as seasoning, I requested to sub sweet-potatoes but they gave them to me anyway. The shrimp roll, again no flavor whatsoever. It just taste fishy and bland. There was supposed tto be shrimp inside but the roll itself was very doughy and fishy. They charge extra for every little thing. Kind of petty. I ended up spending $27.00 plus change and feel that this is not Fresno, Tepanyaki. I could have gone and had a sit down lunch and had the food prepared in front of me for this price. They also have sign in the restaurant that clearly states no refund or exchanges so I will not go back. Too expensive and not good! read more
