I am a complete beginner to archery and had a lesson with Nico (the owner) yesterday afternoon. It was such a fabulous experience! He is friendly, down-to-earth and a very good instructor. He explained the body mechanics of his method of shooting very clearly and I was able to shoot in a loose cluster at 10 yards by the end of the hour. About 6 weeks ago, I shot Nico an email about being interested in getting set up with a bow and all the necessary accoutrement to get started. Nico is not only enthusiastic about archery, he is fair in his pricing of equipment, and he discusses the different types of archery without saying one is superior to the other. From what I can tell, he is more interested in cultivating a community of archers, regardless of style, by hosting a venue for them to shoot arrows, buy equipment at fair prices, get better at shooting arrows, and have a good time doing it, no matter if you are a compound shooter, traditional, recurve, longbow, olympic style or a combination of those, he can get you started and dialed in. jfyi: The only style of archery his range will not accommodate is crossbow. read more

I wanted to do a team building activity for my leadership team and thought archery would be a cool activity. It was an awesome experience. Pros: Amazing, patient teachers; clean and open facility, reasonable prices; great beginners class and passes Cons: that they aren't open all the time BOTTOM LINE: Anyone wanting to try archery or meet some very passionate, encouraging and dedicated teachers who are clear experts at their craft needs to visit! Definitely a bullseye for great facility, teachers and FUN! My cousin and I tried archery for the first time ever and we have instantly fallen in love with it. But it's not only because of the sport; the owner Nico and assistant teacher Rebecca were really amazing, patient and made a very difficult sport approachable and so fun. We took a one hour beginners class (used a groupon so it was only $11 per person!). Nico patiently went through all the basics and safety, but the great thing was that he got a bow in our hands pretty quickly. A lot of beginner classes is basically a 50 minute lecture with 10 minutes of actual activity. We were shooting arrows about 15-20 minutes into the class. I had a lot of problems with the proper release so Nico actually took me aside and worked with me individually until I got it right. His assistant Rebecca was also always on hand to give pointers and tips. After the class, we opted to stay for another hour ($15 per person, including rental equipment). It was just the two of us, so Nico and Rebecca continued to help and encourage us, giving us extra tips and pointers. I felt really encouraged and motivated with their teaching style; without hyperbole they were some of the best teachers I have ever met (and not just in archery.) they even went out of their way to help our friend restring his own bow and adjust his arrows. After the hour, Nico and Rebecca also told us about class passes we could purchase and even explained to us about different types of bows and arrows. There was no sales pitch pressure to buy. Definitely will be returning! And am so excited to be a regular archer - no Hunger Games required! Thanks Ohlone Archery for a great day! read more

We did the beginner lesson today and had a lot of fun. They do them every Saturday at 10am for $35/person for an hour of instruction and shooting and it's worth every penny. Nico is a great teacher. He's knowledgable, helpful, and humorous and gives everyone plenty of individual attention and feedback. We both got lots of help improving our form and by the end we were doing much better. There was a good mix of couples and people coming alone. Everyone was friendly and it was a great environment for anyone to learn and practice in. We're looking forward to coming back here next week! read more

Really had a good time here, and hope to be back soon (with more friends). I always try to do something different for my fiancee's birthday every year, and I know she mentioned archery in passing some time ago as something that sounded fun. Thankfully, my spider sense was up, and I tabled that thought for her 2017 birthday. I booked a slot for Nico's 10am Saturday beginner course and we made sure to get there at least 10 minutes early for registration and to be fitted for an arm guard (this is a legit place, and they follow all the standard procedures/protocols--it's not just a place where amateurs are shooting arrows around like wannabe marksmen). We had a large group, all with varying levels of experience. I myself remember shooting some arrows on a crappy bow at a class trip many many moons ago, so I needed to be indoctrinated with the proper way to hold and shoot. Nico is patient and knowledgeable, and has a good sense of humor. He never tries to big league you or embarrass--you get some individual attention as he walks down the line to inspect your form, and you always feel safe, which is #1. His staff is also very friendly. They offer you complimentary water as long as you pay, and there's some lockers and tables nearby for your gear. I definitely want to go back and shoot again, especially since I live so close. At $35/pp for an hour of instruction/shooting, I felt that was adequate for what you got. I wish we got more shots per round, but I guess that'd take too long, and they do have more experienced (mind you, they were like 10 years old, but I'm sure they were excellent shooters) groups that come in after you (they shut the whole place down for the instructional class, so you don't feel like people are watching and judging you). All in all, I liked how different this was, and now I see why everyone wants to be like The Hunger Games or Robin Hood. read more

This is a delayed review of the experienced I had with Ohlone. My team and I spent a delightful afternoon at Ohlone last April. It has been on my mind since then to return to Ohlone for some practice if the location isn't that far from where I resided. What I enjoyed and liked about it all that made me want to return are the environment and the people there. Nico was the main point of contact for us. He was the instructor that taught us the basics and guided us through the entire lesson. He was polite, courteous and professional in the way he managed the reservation to the activity itself. I bought a groupon for this place, and it's definitely one of the best investments I've made so far. The beginner lesson was very helpful for a complete newbie, and by the end of it, I was able to keep my arrows roughly on target. I stopped by again today to use my additional hours from the groupon, and I was impressed when Nico remembered that I'd been here last week and shot decently well! After a bit of a guidance, some tips, and a couple hours of practice, I was able to keep most of my arrows clustered towards the center and even score a bullseye! read more

I love Ohlonie Archery, I went there twice once for my birthday and once for our Christmas party: I/We had the privilege to work with Nico he is a master archerer and an amazing teacher. He is able to instruct you with every detail there is to know about Archery in a fun and empowering way. You can tell that archery is his passion and he loves to share his knowledge and guide you during your session with him. There are also other great instructors which I have yet to try out. It was my first time here and as a newbie archer, I had a lot of fun! If you're not familiar with archery gear, you may need to take a fairly short lesson from the owner, Nico. He's super thorough, encouraging, and a very patient teacher while going through all the steps and the proper poses to shoot a bow safely. I went in on Saturday for my first-ever archery lesson, and honestly I can't say enough how much I loved the experience. Nico was a fun, kind, and knowledge instructor that made everyone feel at ease and comfortable. He prioritizes safety of everyone at the range, which is exactly as it should be. I was very happy to see that he would not tolerate anything that would put anyone at risk. People must understand, it's not Hollywood, and you are dealing with a dangerous weapon. Nico explained everything clearly and concisely, made everyone feel comfortable with their equipment, and got us shooting in no time. On two or three occasions I've brought groups from my work to Ohlone Archery for a beginners lesson, trying to make an opportunity for people from disparate departments of Pandora to interact, and maybe spark some interest in my fave hobby. I think the group lesson strikes a great balance between a focused activity and a looser social occasion. Archery is super deep and in my opinion this would make a great activity for leadership/executive groups too. So many layers of lessons. Nico is a great coach, focusing as he must on basic safety stuff, but he also gets beginners onto a really strong form from jump. As an archery facility generally, Ohlone is really great. This place is so much fun! My husband and I just went shooting here for the first time tonight and we both enjoyed it a lot. The class size is small so you get lots of feedback, and Nico (the instructor) had a great friendly presence and took the time to explain all the safety protocols thoroughly. I was also really impressed with how clean, neat and organized the building was. There were lockers for your belongings, free bottled water, and a spotless bathroom. The rates are so reasonable we will definitely be back. $15/hour to shoot using their provided equipment or $10/hour if you bring your own. This would make a great date night, or rent out all lanes for a really fun party with friends. read more

This place is chill. Made a reservation online, printed out a waiver and came to practice shooting session. I haven't shot in a year, so it was good to get a reminder on safety and some tips on improving my form. I rented equipment for $15 for an hour of shooting. There is also a punch pass system which saves you a lot if you like to shoot a lot.There are free lockers & water in the back, plenty of parking space and friendly archery advice from Nico! He even helped me make a finger sling on the fly. Big plus - the most convenient location for archery if you live in the east bay! read more

Nico and his team of instructors walk you through all the fundamentals and are very conscientious about making sure you have the right form and shooting in a safe manner.
